Arconium 2.0 is great!

There is also KA Ice Cream Sony but KA15 wasn't really good. But the brand new KA16 seems to be great!

It is Rooted.
May give it a whirl then! Please ignore my ignorance but are there any major omissions? Such as video, hdmi...?

Until now, no known Issues.

I prefer CM9 but it's alpha version.
Dilemma
Hi, I'm currently undecided between Mooded's ICS rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 and Arconium ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515148.... Any advice?? Or any suggestions for other roms?? Am looking for something stable and fast and..well.. generally awesome lol...Any help is appreciated... They both seem quite the same based on what im reading.. Mooded's ICS can update OTA? how big would the updates be?? when it says OTA does it download the whole package again??
JJ Hybrid
I would suggest JJ hybrid Rom as the Xperia Launcher ROMS become slow with time. I have been using JJ for quite sometime and I am pretty happy with it. Make sure you first do a FULLWIPE before installing this ROM. It has given me great battery life and unparalleled performance. Just try it and I am sure you wont regret it.
1) Install latest Sony ICS baseband via flashtool.
2) Install stock Sony Kernel + CWM recovery.
3) Do a full wipe: i.e.Factory Reset, clear cache, clear Dalvik Cache and then format system.
4) Install JJ.
Make sure you sync all your contacts with Google before installing.
I would say Arconium ICS...its smooth..it has same look as stock..i m sure u will be satisfied with this ROM
If you care about games, ICS is not great with them, I tried Arconium ICS and while being a great ROM I wasn't able to play Temple Run, that's a common problem with every ICS rom from what I've read
So, if you don't care about games, go straight for it xD
Thanks guy for your reply =) so i installed Mooded's ICS rom anyway and I'm kinda liking it.
@romiltherock
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Can i know what's your antutu benchmark score and the configurations you use? kernel, cpu freq, etc etc...
@arpith.fbi
I've tried arconium and comparing it to mooded i think i'll go with mooded.. mooded offer update OTA (i havent tried) and also included notification bar toggle, 3 launchers to choose from , custom themes, battery mod, etc etc.. also, using the same config @1.4Ghz, performance governor, moving from arconium to mooded gave me +100 in Antutu.
@Shark107
The games issue seems to be on the game's devs..so i'll just wait for the update from Imangi. ICS is so much "smarter" lol.. besides games gets boring but not customizing your phone. it never gets old lol
KA 17.2
I'm Using KA 17.2 atm, KA16 had several errors where you get a frozen screen when using browser or playstore.
Now with 17.2 my phone is terrible slow, dont know if I did anything wrong -.-
Next thing to try for me is Cyanogen ...
Modded ics is best one i am using it with 1 ghz n lagfree profile
No lag awsome performance
Battery drain in sleep mode is too low 1 % in 2 hours or 3 hourz

Hi all,
I recently learned my arc s bootloader can not even be unlocked even by the paid methods (omnius, setool) . I have rooted it, init.d enabled, cwm on (from system).
My understanding is most of the roms are not an option for me due to locked bl.
Any ideas for roms I could still try?
Thx in advance.

Whys that? You can use any ROM that doesn't require you to install a custom kernel.
There are many of them you can use: Arconium, KA21, MooDeD ICS etc.
Try JJ's HYBRID ROM v3.2 Stable(here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537717 ) It is very very good l also have a locked bootloader (unlock only paid ) It's like an AOSP ! It is rockstabel ! Or u can use modded ICS 90.5 or 90.4 but not the 90.3 it cause bootloop ! Smoot and fast but j think JJ's Hybrid is the best for Locked BL ! Try it and then you decide what good for you ! J hope j can help for you !!
Daniel D. : Arconium(Recomended Configuration
Unlocked bootloader.), KA21(=Installation instructions== KA Ice Cream Sony users ==
Important! Only for unlocked bootloader)There are ONLY for unlocked bootloader ! or jm wrong ?
Thanks
Thanks for all the answers!!
I will try JJ and arconium today
(i'm so happy there are rom's left for locked bootloader guys like me!!!! )

man jj's rom is by far the best with sony stuff plus aosp fast and the page with nice set of instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537717
I'm so exited about all the stuff I find here, but sadly I just can't root my phone. Every method does not work for me. I'd love to install these ROMS...
custom rom compatible with locked bootloader
I have an arc s with locked bootloader and hav personally used the following custom rom:
JJ Hybrid Rom 3.1 and 3.2
ThSEGA v3: ive got connectivity issue would have update to v4 but tried ka21 instead
Mooded 90.1, 90.2, 90.3, 90.5: ive encountered battery drain
XdroidPerfectv 2.3.2: got contact sync problem( i think it was solved in an update)
And following Daniel D's info.. I tried KA21 yesterday.
So far, in my opinion the best rom for a locked bootloadet is a toss between JJ and Ka21 since I like the smoothness and stability of jj's rom but missed my sony widgets, thus ka21 is a good alternative for this. Moreover, wifi connectivity in ka21 is more stable while 3G connectivity in jj is more stable although its wifi is also quite good.
Wifi depends mostly on kernel... So jj`s Rom has nothing to with your wifi issues. Secondly, what sony widgets you miss? I have JJ Rom 3.2 and found all widgests in play store, working very well.
I have atached a screenshot of my homescreen... all widgets downloaded from play store... and its more then enough for me !
My recomendation is Sirkay kernel (Xarc) with JJ`s Hybrid Rom 3.2, Baseband 70 (or you can use the BB72 from FXP thread, it works great... the other BB72 available is not so good), and most important : Do a full wipe (including /system).
On JJ`s Thread you will find also a lot of flashable addons (my fav. is nexus boot animation, xperia keyboard, hollo camera mod , and the advanced ICS+ camera with HD and panorama... but there are a lot other mods also).
So, JJ`s Rom is by far the best (and i have tried most of the available Roms).

I know that wifi and battery drain is a kernel issue but if you read my previous I said that I'm still with a locked bootloader so I can't change my kernel to solve my issue. The sony widget I'm talking about is the walkman player because I can only put the walkman shortcut in JJ. The sony app I've missed is the 3D Camera, track ID..(I've already changed to KA21 when JJ added the sony3D camera add on). But the gist of my post is that I'm leaning towards JJ (because of smoothness and stability) but KA21 is a good alternative (because my connection to wifi is more stable) And like you, I tried those roms i've post but keep coming back to JJ, though I'm still with KA21 as of now.
Thanks for the kernel and baseband suggestion, I'll try them once I decide to unlock my bootloader (believe me, I would really love to unlock bootloader to maximize potential of my phone but I'm still not confident in the probability of losing my sony warranty just yet:cyclops: )

To me it did not work. I tried 2 times and then used Update Service And I really wanted that rom...
I am currently on JJ's hybrid ROM 3.1. Currently there is a 3.3 beta update (not .587 from what I know) but it does not look like any major updates and in fact looks like more bugs got introduced requiring fiddling a bit with the setup. Anyhow since there is no 'stable' and complete JB out there yet I am wondering if I should hang tight or go try some other .587 ROM. I really need stability and less lag. JJ's ROM also has horrible default phone contacts management IMHO compared to the nice way the Sony ROM contacts manager works (Having to press back so many times to get out of contacts sucks and I preferred white on black).

You could try CyanogenMod 9.1 (unlocked bootloader required) or wait a little while for Arconium 5. Depends if you want AOSP or stock look and feel.

What I would like is the original look and feel (GUI, Contacts etc) of the stock .587 Sony ROM without the bloatware and rooted
Even the so called stock ROM currently available only as a CWM backup/restore is modded to some degree.

hi..
still on rooted stock GB R800i with locked BL... having plans on flashing CFWs...
i just wanna ask if what is the best ROM / Kernel combination..? preferably bug-free.., light and with the least compatibility issues known...
thanks..
additional question...
what ROM should i go for..? GB or ICS based...? what are the pros and cons..?
I'm currently using NXT by Krisdee. It's smooth and fast, and I haven't encountered any bugs yet. The pros of GB are that they are generally more stable, and support more games (EA stopped supporting ICS or something). I personally like using ICS. It has some nice features, like the data traffic monitor, and I prefer the overall look of ICS. But if you want gaming (though touchpads do work on ICS I think), battery life, and generally a more stable rom, go for GB.
you mean to say that all things are working on the NXT ROM..? i mean wi-fi, camera and others..? i've read some ROM reviews and users reported bug stating that their cam is not working or is unable to tether..

There is a solution to fix "cannot connect to camera" error. Go to settings > quick panel settings > widget buttons, untick LED flashlight, and done. As for tether, it works for me, maybe they did something wrong during the installation. As long as you follow the instructions, you'll have a bug free and stable rom without problems.
If you're a hardocore gamer , i'd recommend sticking to any GB rom , as you'll have a better lag-free gaming experience
for a good GB Rom i'd recommend either NXT 1.3 by Krisdee , or DiXperia 2 by Dikej
I myself prefer ICS for the extra features and better UI , and bear in mind that i don't use my phone for gaming as much as i did before so i don't know how much you'll compromise your gaming experience by using ICS
examples for good ICS Roms : Stock ICS by MarkPhyton "doesn't have any bugs AFAIK" , and the one i'm using now is ICS Pureness ported by Sechko , i prefer it for the better theming and less bloat to deal with
a good non-stock ICS rom is AOKP rom and MIUI By ComicDan , i had no issues dealing with both of them , but i just preferred Stock based Roms
NXT Rom 1.3 is the best rom available now, lucky u don't have to unlock bootloader and change kernel to have it.
Only one bug: when recharge the phone while it"s off, the phone turns itself on. Just this one

I don't think that's a bug. Every rom does that, and it gives you the advantage that you would still be able to turn on your phone if your power button broke.

Hey guys,
For a couple of days, I got my Xperia S. It's very fast and smooth, it feels great.
Before I had the Xperia X8 ;P
At the moment my XS runs on Stock Kernel, Stock ROM, Bootloader is locked and its unrooted.
So, today I played Modern Combat 4 and its runs very well, but sometimes I've got some lags and I was wondering because the Xperia S must be fast enough to runs this game complete smoothly, isn't it?
And now my question is: Is it worth it to flash a custom kernel and custom rom?
Will my Xperia S be faster and for example Modern Combat 4 will be runs smooth?
I often read that Xperia SSpeed Kernel is faster than Stock Kernel and it will overclocking the CPU (safely).
What does this mean "safely overclocking"?
If you overclocking your phone, the processor will be break down faster ... but I want to use this phone a couple of years ...
Because I don't want that my phone bricks or something like that, because I love my XS ...
I hope you understand me, sorry for my bad english ...

According to me it is worth it. I mess wit the ROMs almost every week, just for fun, but because they are faster as well, however if modern combat 4 does not run smoothly, it must be sony original software, because I use sony stock rom, with modifications (XTX rom) with stock kernel and it works fine. I suggest that you start with the roms what do not require bootoader unlock. According to me it cant go worse. And if you feel the phone still is slow then unlock your bootloader and try custom kernels.

For that reason I have stock GB .62 rom, rooted, added launcher tweak into build.prop and moved some applications from /data/app to system/app, at the moment I have about 170 mb free space my Arc S, and it is running smooth without any problems, without anything missing or not working.

Hi,
in past two months I have tried most of the popular ROMs. First of all I would not recommend you to use custom ROMs with locked bootloader. For some reason even if a ROM is supposed to work with locked BL I would experience bootloops or other problems. After I have unlocked it the bootloops dissapered. If you decide to unlock it first thing to try is CM10 just to see how jellybean looks. It works great with no problems but the camera is 480p and I dont think that is a compromise anyone should make. But still go for it just to see what we're missing out on . Of ICS rROMS I can recommend Ultimate HD (you will need to temper with it to enable XLoud) and JJ Hybrid (for stock ICS look).
Performance wise the GB is the best for Arc S. Even though the benchmark results were the same for GB/ICS/JB when I've tested it, if you are gaming GB will give you the best performance. Also camera and sound work best. If it doesnt bother you to use the older version of android go with GB. If you unlock the BL then you can use Doomkernel for GB and OC and UV the phone for better performance and battery life. There is Setxperia app that works great with Doomkernel in GB but gives me problems with Rush kernel so I cant use it in ICS.
You can go with the stock .42, root, delete anything you don't need. And update to .62. That alone would give you the best possible performance you can get out of Arc. If you unlock the bootloader then you can overclock it to 1600 MHz and undervolt at least -50mV whitch gave me about 3 days of battery life and faster phone.
