auto brightness fluctuations buggy? - HTC One V

Hello all,
Anyone else noticed the auto brightness not behaving consistently? Sometimes it goes up really high in my pitch black bedroom and then dims again only to go high minutes later.
Is there something I can do to check whether the sensor is sound?
thanks,
Jeroen

[Q] Bug in Auto-Brightness?

I hope someone can confirm if this is a bug or not!
Whenever I turn off my screen, and then on again it takes a second for the screen to auto-adjust the brightness up or down. (depending on the light-situation!)
Isn't the light sensor supposed to know what brightness to be at even when the screen is shut off? It's as if it first detects the light-situation when I turn on the screen. Could someone please try (in either a very dark or light room) try shut off screen, then back on and check if the brightness has stayed the same or if it first adjusts it when you've turned it on?
Why would it monitor the light when the display is off? Seems like a waste of power to me.
I doubt its a bug. More like a powersaving feature.
That's normal AFAIK.
The light sensor turns of when the screen goes off, to save a few milliamps I presume.
To my knowledge this is normal, its how mine operates as well.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It's like that on mine too. I think that all sensors are turned off when the screen is off to save battery.
[SOLVED] Bug in Auto-Brightness?
Alright, thanks for the replies. Just didn't notice it till now and it sort of bothered me.

How does the autobrightness function? IE Normally.

I've noticed with my GNEX that it seems like all of the sudden it won't auto dim. When I unlock the device it will brighten if needed, however if I walk into a dimmer area it will not auto dim. Is this the normal behavior for the light sensor?
I'm used to my Xperia Play which would constantly adjust the screen up and down.
My auto-brightness setting sets the screen brightness lower than the lowest actual brightness setting regardless of whether I'm in light or dark.
There's a fix for it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377410&highlight=auto+screen+brightness
I haven't tested that out though.

Yea I was worried maybe the brightness sensor was not working since. Turns out my wife's droid 2 with CM7 acts the same way. Lowest setting until you unlock at which time it only increases the brightness, never decreasing.

random brighness adjustments

Hi,
For a few weeks my phone has been randomly adjusting my screen brightness even though auto adjustment is turned off. Sometimes auto adjustment even turns itself on as well. It gets quite annoying when I'm browsing my phone at night and it suddenly goes to 100% brighness or the opposite. Has anyone else had this problem? Or know how to fix it?

[S9/S9+] Auto-Brightness flickers in dark environments

Hello!
Can you guys test the auto-brightness in dark environments?
My screen flickers shortly before the auto-brightness function find the best brightness.
Unfortunately, I can´t make a video, because this is the only phone I have.
The screen don´t flicker everytime, only when the auto-brightness go under 20% and stops shortly before.
Is it a hardware issue, the new update or the software total. I have the S9+ since yesterday.

Question Auto brightness bugged

Is anyone having issues with auto brightness, jumping up and down every few seconds? Im currently sat in a dimly lit room with the TV on and my screen keeps changing brightness levels every few seconds, if I pull down the notification area I can see the slider jumping about. I'm guessing the phone is reacting to the TV changing brightness levels as the picture changes but it seems way too sensitive.
Yeah known issue afaik. I'm hoping it gets resolved on an update

One of the fixes in the November update was "Improvements for auto-brightness response in certain lighting conditions.".
I think auto brightness has always been an issue with Pixels. Its a feature I always turn off at this point

Yeah it is up and down like a brides nighty when the light it low on mine, it isn't smooth like it was on my Pixel 5. It feels a bit like the sample rate needs a longer delay because just an increase in brightness on my TV can send my Pro brightness shooting up, the adaptive display needs to wait a few seconds before acting.

Yeah my pixel 5 and 4a 5G never had this issue (same room and lighting conditions) its crap we have to pay to be beta testers nowadays, guess we will have to wait for another "fix" in next update.

Should we really have to turn things off, considering the cost of this phone? Throw in a case and charger and your over £900 in for this phone, everything should work out of the box without having to turn off features.
It's horrible. When I sit at night in a dark room watching TV, it seems to react to the TV and jump all over the place. Never had this on a phone before. Why can't Google get auto brightness right? It's ridiculous.
Personally, I've always preferred Pixel's handling of auto-brightness to that of my recent Note 10+. I thought Samsung's auto-brightness didn't adapt very well (besides the dimmest not being as dim as the Pixel when using in the dark).
