Post count? - About xda-developers.com

My post count has gone from 30 to 20 something the to 27 and now to 25 and now 31. What is going on?

There's been some problems with the sites database today, so a few things have been going wrong. I'd guess this is why you've experienced that problem.
I'm sure the admins will have everything sorted as soon as they can.

Another thing. If you, without any reason, post so that you reach the minimum number of post to post in dev section, mods generally delete your comments.

Thanks for the info!

Newbie

I've been following Leedroid and updating with is releases. I wanted to post that I had donated in recognition of the nice fix he did for 3.06 tonight but obviously as a lurker I've been blocked.
new members are restricted from posted in development threads until they have 10 posts.
Maybe you could PM the dev and let them know in the meantime
Well played for donating. I think the dev will appreciate the sentiment more than the money maybe, as so few give while so many leech. Welcome to the forums too btw.
Once you make 10 posts all XDA features will be automatically unlocked
aw man, a whole ten posts? ::slides in another one nonchalantly:: @[email protected]
~le poof~
Actually being a newbie myself I completely forgot about this place since it requires 10 posts in order to get into any real discussion. Why is the limit so high? I thought spam bots just do a single post then move onto the next forum? Unless there has been trouble before with bots posting in multiple forums?
The reason why 10 posts seem so high for someone new is that, well for me personally, I have to find topics where I can actually half help someone since I don't want to look like I'm spamming just to get my post count up. This is very time consuming, all I wanted to do is do a reply to a topic then lurk again until another question crops up which I can answer.
^agree with you and I also feel a bit of this 10 post count stuff.
Please see the thread "Postcount limit in developmental fora" for a full explanation on the 10 post min.

Post locks

I can't post in the Dev section and the system tells me I need at a minimum 10 posts in order to do so. However, I see others in there posting with less than that. And I DO have 10 posts so I'm a little confused as to exactly what is causing my issue here.....
Anyone else seeing this? MODS...you want to fill me in on where I am going wrong?

Some users who have been registered for a long time have ability to post.
Did you want around an hour after gaining 10 posts, for the promotion to run?

Post Limit for Experienced Developer

Hi, great forums and flashed a few ROMS now from the great cooks on the site.
I have one small gripe however, i am a software engineer and interested in Android apps specifically integration with mono and WCF web services. I couldnt find anything on the site so i went to post - but couldnt becuase of post limit.
I understand the need for it to filter out less sensible question, or at least make people search before they write, but very frustrating in other cases.
Just my 5 pence worth.
Cheers,
Chris
If you feel you should be exempted from this rule, post your development in a general section and Private Message a Moderator and ask them to move it to the development section. If your work fits the bill we will be more than happy to help you out.

His join date is December 2010. He should be exempted from the rule anyway. Only users who joined this year should be affected by the ten posts rule. I'm sure someone could fix his account for him.
Awesome! Welcome to the XDA!
Only 2 more posts and I can't post as well!!

You do have a point. If he is having this issue he should contact the Administrator MikeChannon so he can troubleshoot the issue.

Why would you be asking a question in a development forum? (unless you wanted to ask in a thread that already exists).
Same error

youve been on xda for 6 years, yes 6. you need 10 posts to be able to post in other sections and so on. how the f**k can you not post 10 posts on xda in 6 years? seriously. deal with it, and post a few more. ive been on xda for 7 years. yes, one more year than you, yet i have 34,050 posts. grow up, and become a big boy now.

New user cant post development thread

This is really annoying... i want to post some work for ICS for speedy aka htc evo shift yet i am unable to because of my post count i could just post randomly but then there is a timer cut off...
why make it so diffcult
There are some good reasons.
Dave
I know you'll have already read the sticky thread about the 10 posts, and why it was introduced. I can only assume you missed this bit...

There are a few people with a genuine need to post a thread in the developmental fora (developers), these people can contact a moderator to help them get sorted.

While similarly *left outside* the dialogs I'd join, I get your message, and that to pass on to the mod(s)... respectfully, of course: so, pose post of worth, as so many read here are to my ploy, er, toil (better), play. Strop and trim, bit by bit...
...and yes, I'm in the middle of a score with that "subtle knife" (Pullman) of "just which bits to cut"... [meanwhile] Yes! Not a brick, yet a conduit! Hooray! And with thanks from those who have and may post, of worth, to have helped me thus.
OK, so I'm a wordy nerdy hacker... Defining the scope of *what's in, what's out" is well within a devel community: that is, this site is useful by such definition.
Thanks!

Lol that made me ROFL, anyways its not a big deal i respect this site and there rules... and as a matter of fact the limit kept me from posting a rom that had more issues then was worth at the momment giving me the much needed time to refine everything so hopefully when my lazyness gets around to it ill reach then ten posts and post somethings of much superior quality!!!

2 minutes before editing a comment

Hi,
I just wanted to reedit a comment because a tag was missing and it said that I have to wait 2 minutes before I am allowed to do another posting.
Well, I didn't want to do another posting, I just wanted to edit an already posted comment.
Maybe this could be fixed easily...
Thanks
Rebista
Came here to try to find just the same answer. It's just editing, 2 minutes is too long to wait for something like that!
But I understand what the reasons may be. What amount of post will take this away?
thanks in advance
I would have expected you to be beyond that point now with more than 10 posts, but perhaps there are new restrictions on junior members, which should end at 30 posts when you become members.

I can confirm that haveing more than 30 posts will get rid of this limitation. I don't have it anymore
Thanks!

Nope. Already tried, is instantly done.
Okay, so free edits come with 30 posts ...
As it just happens this very post now is my 30th post
What an unusual solution. Post in this forum and through the very act of posting everything is taken care of
lol
Just came in here to comment about the very same thing. I can understand limiting the amount of posts new users can make within a given period (helps prevent spam)....but editing a post should be excluded from this limit.

I think it's allright and something you can live with, for 30 posts. They say in their FAQ that limiting posts is the only way to control spammers (well, one of their ways) and chaos.
30 is NOT that much, when I came to this thread I tought I was to find some limit of 100 posts and THAT would be annoying.
If you plan to stay in the community, 30 posts are ok and 2 minutes are bearable. Just MY opinion
woah 30post until edit???
now isnt that like tooo much??

No, there is a 2 minute time limit between post and edit until you reach 30 posts. You can edit before 30 posts, you just have to wait a bit.
Think about what you write before clicking Submit. Use the advanced edit mode and the Preview button. Make sure you have furnished enough information in your post to help people answer your questions.
If you have any other questions, please read this guide.
I don't have any complaining about it ( I'm new junior member) cause its much nicely read and post to the good forum ( some boobs don't read and follow xda's rules)

I came to this thread via google. Shouldn't this info be in some FAQ?
I have no idea why this faq http://forum.xda-developers.com/faq.php is not linked anywhere for people to go clicky.
Conspiracy theories:
It's almost like they don't want users to find the faq.
They assumed users won't read it anyway.
They are lazy.
/runs for cover.
There's too many restrictions at xda, I mean yea they got a lot of helpful tools, but come on...but whatever...lol
