Should I return to stock? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

It's not like I want to return to stock, but my days with this phone are coming to a close and my mother will be getting this phone for the remainder of the contract (about 9 ½ months) and I'll be transferring to the Galaxy Nexus.
Also, another question, should I decide to return this phone to its stock boot loader, will it be able to still receive OTA updates despite it being S-Off?

I believe so, as long as you flash a stock ruu

Yeah just flash a stock PG32IMG file and you'll be able to receive OTA updates to the latest version. It will remain S-off, but I think you need to reinstall CWM again if you wanted that.

Will flashing CWM recovery affect getting an OTA?

My understanding is that recovery stays in a separate partition and whatever you do to it does not affect getting an OTA, is that right?
Also, what if my phone is rooted using the Zerg exploit or whatever method, can I still get an OTA?
So basically I think my questions is, what ultimately decides whether my phone can get an OTA, or not?
if you are on stock ROM, you will get it just fine
but you might loose ROOT after it finish the upgrade
if you are on Custom ROM, you wont get OTA
You can get the ota even on a custom ROM. As long as you have the stock recovery.

How would you have a custom ROM with stock recovery? I've never rooted a Samsung phone since this is my first and I'm waiting to root it, so unless Samsung is different I don't see how.

You can flash stock recovery using odin

I'm sure within a couple days there will be a custom rom with the new features. that's an assumption but its always been like that on other phones I have had. Hopefully that's the case with this phone also.
I have stock rooted ROM with CWM recovery, is that okay? Or do I have to have a stock recovery?

you will get the notification for the ota, your phone will download it but when it boots into recovery to flash it and its not the stock recovery, it will just give an error and you will probably have to pull the battery to reboot. i did this on the nexus s. if i remember right i never got the ota notififcation again either after it failed.
I know there are methods out there that can flash the entire phone back to stock (kernel, ROM, recovery) but that involves wiping everything. Is there a way to flash back the stock recovery only since I'm already on stock ROM and kernel?
Big thanks...
I wonder where it puts the update after it downloads it. Would be nice to grab it and maybe install without reverting to stock...

It goes to data/cache if I remember right. And there will be rooted roms posted within hours of the ota so its really nothing to even worry about

There is a stock recovery posted in the dev section you can flash in Odin

Found that and it works. Thanks!
you can keep your phone more up to date by flashing roms as opposed to waiting for an OTA. galaxy s4g is still stuck on froyo. Epic 4g just got gingerbread.
Has has anyone received the update?

I've tried looking on how to update to stock 4.1.1 but i have no idea on what im doing now lol
Should i just wait longer for the OTA or flash it,
if i have to flash it how do i do it coz i keep getting errors.
Im on build JRN84D

Since you have CWM installed, you won't be able to auto-install off an OTA anyways. You have to flash it manually.

Read all stickies in development and return to bone stock and wait for your precious ota or just stay where you are at and wait for another rom to flash.
good day.

Ota jb update failed signature

I have a rooted galaxy nexus and went to install the ota jb update. It gave me the red sign in cwm and said failed whole package sign or something like that.. now it says no update available. Anyone know what I should do to get jb update without wiping?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
you clearly modified system files. you need to find the files you modified and change them out to ones that are unmodified.
Yeah.. I changed recovery from boot.p to recoveryfromboot.p.bak as that's what a tec said to do after rooting if cwm didn't stick... can I change it back without breaking root?

That's not the reason why. You must have changed your radio or kernel or recovery. The ota update won't install ota with cwm

you are confusing root with a custom recovery. they are not the same. to get root, you have to have a custom recovery (least on anything 4.0.4 or higher). you do not need root to have a custom recovery.
if you take the OTA, you will lose root anyways and then you will also lose your custom recovery.
So I have to wait for a rom build and flash it to have jb with root??
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I think there are plenty of JB roms out there from the announcement in June. I could be wrong, but if you're just looking for the new radios, I think they can just be flashed over your current setup.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
No. You can accept (or flash) the OTA & then root it.

You need to have a read of this thread. And then, maybe have a read of this one if you think it's easier.

That confused the hell out of me.. and I'm not dumb. Lol. The second one doesn't mention toroplus from what I read.
I think I'll just update and reroot.. my problem is.. do I have to change that system file back to its original? And then do I have to download the update from somewhere BC my phone says up to date now?

[Q] So i have an update but i cant update...

So i rooted my phone a few months back but im still stock, im on 4.0.4 and because if been rooted, i've skipped two updates. What can i do to make the update go through? i still wanna be stock but i know this update jellybean, which i want.
I've read having root blocks the update. There's a rooted version of the stock update in the dev section you can install.

So what's it called, I've been away from the scene for a long while.
All you need to do is download kies and under one of the menus is an option to emergency stock recovery this will take you to both the latest version and restore your phone to completely stock

Possible to revert back to JB after KitKat?

I received a refurbished phone with KitKat already installed. I am already rooted. What has to happen for me to be able to go back to jelly bean? The one search I found didn't give a final answer

You can flash a zip through cwm and get back to JB, but do not try to flash back using Odin because it'll brick you. And just know that even if you flash back to a JB ROM you are stuck with KK boot loader and modem.
