N00B Q please help Jellybean 4.1 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

right i have my gnex GSM unlocked with CWM rooted, on JB 4.1, im not getting the OTA reliese,
I've tried looking on how to update to stock 4.1.1 but i have no idea on what im doing now lol
Should i just wait longer for the OTA or flash it,
if i have to flash it how do i do it coz i keep getting errors.
Im on build JRN84D

Since you have CWM installed, you won't be able to auto-install off an OTA anyways. You have to flash it manually.

Read all stickies in development and return to bone stock and wait for your precious ota or just stay where you are at and wait for another rom to flash.
good day.

Yeah don't take the update. It will cause problems if you're on a custom rom. If you want the OTA update you will have to Odin everything back to stock. Otherwise, if you have titanium then go and freeze device management to prevent that dialogue from coming back up. There's really no reason to take OTA updates because its much easier to just flash a rooted stock rom rather than Odin back to stock.

I think its much better let the devs take our OTA update and prepare it for our phones....

First day with galaxy nexus

Just got my nexus. First thing I did was root and unlock. Then it said there was a update available, but would not install it. Took me straight to cam recovery . Someone please help. I believe I'm supposed to be updating to 4.0.4
*edit. Maybe I'm wrong. Is 4.0.2 the latest version with out romming. Sorry new to the nexus just left a dx2
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
If you did anything more than unlocking the bootloader and rooting you can't update with ota anymore.
OK. I thought that might b the problem. Do u know where I can get a link to the latest update?
Thanx

Yes, there is a 4.0.4 update. If you want it, then un-root, grab the OTA, and re-root.
Sorry if this has been asked b4. First day in this thread. Should I completely unroot or can I use the app that temporarily unroots
*found the thread with the download. I can just flash threw cwm
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I have never tried the temp un-root, so I do not know anything about it.
If I had to guess, I would say that it does not matter which way you do it.
Someone with more Android knowledge than me will come along and let you know which would be better.
Yeah, you basically have 2 choices, unroot and go back to stock recovery, then wait for the OTA, or flash the 4.0.4 (or even 4.1) update yourself
Thanx. I just flashed the 4.0.4. But had to reroot. Everything seems to working great. Imma give it a lil b4 I jump on a 4.1 rom

That is not completely true. You can basically go ahead and flash as well (e.g. Jelly Bean) without breaking OTA.
As long as the files you are flashing are all stock (Android Build, Kernel, Radio & RIL, Bootloader), not de-odexed, and you do not permanently install an alternative Recovery (like CWM) and moreover take care that your busybox version is not known for interfering with OTA in some cases (like the Stericson one), you will be able to do a lot more than just unlocking and rooting and the OTA is supposed to still work if everything is done right.

Unlocked and have recovery...just flash the 4.0.4 radios and a 4.0.4/4.1 ROM. You are done with OTA. Manually flash updates or restore to stock.

(PROBLEM SOLVED- Thanks efrant ! )Problem updating my nexus to JB 4.1

Guys help me
Basically
I got jelly bean OTA 4.1
It downloaded
Now it asked me to reboot.
I did
It went to recovery
And it started to install..
Then I kept my device
And when I came back
I saw it was ICS .
Nothing changed. WTF? How's that possible?
When I went again settings > system updates there is no OTA.
And I am fully stock with right recovery, bootlooder etc..
OK problem solved . I installed it via CWM. No problems at all
Thanks!

yes!
You probably have something that is not stock. It is too hard to tell if you are using the stock recovery. Easiest way to install it is to look at my update thread and manually install it using CWM.

Ota jb update failed signature

I have a rooted galaxy nexus and went to install the ota jb update. It gave me the red sign in cwm and said failed whole package sign or something like that.. now it says no update available. Anyone know what I should do to get jb update without wiping?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
you clearly modified system files. you need to find the files you modified and change them out to ones that are unmodified.
Yeah.. I changed recovery from boot.p to recoveryfromboot.p.bak as that's what a tec said to do after rooting if cwm didn't stick... can I change it back without breaking root?

That's not the reason why. You must have changed your radio or kernel or recovery. The ota update won't install ota with cwm

you are confusing root with a custom recovery. they are not the same. to get root, you have to have a custom recovery (least on anything 4.0.4 or higher). you do not need root to have a custom recovery.
if you take the OTA, you will lose root anyways and then you will also lose your custom recovery.
So I have to wait for a rom build and flash it to have jb with root??
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I think there are plenty of JB roms out there from the announcement in June. I could be wrong, but if you're just looking for the new radios, I think they can just be flashed over your current setup.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
No. You can accept (or flash) the OTA & then root it.

You need to have a read of this thread. And then, maybe have a read of this one if you think it's easier.

That confused the hell out of me.. and I'm not dumb. Lol. The second one doesn't mention toroplus from what I read.
I think I'll just update and reroot.. my problem is.. do I have to change that system file back to its original? And then do I have to download the update from somewhere BC my phone says up to date now?

Official AT&T Jellybean 4.1.1 [KIES]

"Good news tonight for AT&T subscribers, as a number of readers are now reporting that Samsung's update to Android 4.1.1 is now available for the Galaxy S III via Kies. We've reached out to the carrier to learn whether any specific improvements are in store, but it's not like we need to tell you that users will be immersed in the goodies of Google Now and the performance enhancements from Project Butter. Word from members of xda-developers reveals that the update weighs in at a substantial 738MB. For those keeping score, AT&T's update to Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III follows previous deployments from Sprint and T-Mobile..." -Engadget.

I think I'm going to do this. I give it two days before a custom stock ROM comes out.
Maybe is time to separate the forums?

I would just like the modem from this release since I'm enjoying the official tmobile base for now and I figure official jb modem from att would work a bit better than the other ones we have from ics

Note: There's a stock rooted jelly bean download in the how to root sticky. You don't have to update with kies and lose root.

It appears to be UCDLK3 or something along those lines. Check the end of the filename on it.

You can also use mobile odin pro and enable everroot. If you maintain root, you can use goomanager from the market to install twrp recovery. Seems like there are a number of ways to do this, I just found this the easiest way.
I downloaded from samsungupdates sites and install de .tar file with mobile odin pro... and i kept root sou if u wanna be stock but keeping root i recommend you this way its easy!

Just use ODIN and update - instructions here (and they have it rooted)

Just got my S3 2 weeks ago. Never rooted it. Figured I'd wait until JB update. (Just want to root for tethering, not interested in custom firmware or mods). Can someone post a link to or recommend the safest/easiest wait to root since JB 4.1.1 update?
Thanks
