Hello, I am new to the forums and would really appreciate if someone were to help me root my HTC EVO 4G.
I am running Android 2.3.5. If someone has a root for version 2.3.5, I would really like it if you included a link and instructions.
Thanks!
Seriously bro? Have you even looked into any info on this? Maybe a little Google action? There's a few posts in the sticky section about it but I won't include links, if you can't help yourself why would I want to.

I was just asking for help. I did do some Googling and found nothing for 2.3.5 and other things telling me to stuff that could possibly brick my phone if I messed up. I don't want to risk that. I could understand you not wanting to help me, but I would be nice if you linked me to a thread or something that could help me. Thanks anyway.

Well when tinkering with your phone, things can go wrong and you can end up bricked. Read, read, read, be sure you follow instructions to the dot, and most likely, I repeat MOST LIKELY you will be ok.
But it has to be your decision. Be sure you understand basic concepts, starting with ADB and so on.
If you have an specific question or doubt about a procedure, ask the question on the thread of such process, I don't think opening threads like this one will help much, the thread is the appropriate place to place a question, and it is the place were you most likely will get an answer, without being flamed.
Good luck

Dude, look up top at the stickys. There is one that's all about the hermes. That's where myself and a lot of the jokers around here got started. Follow it and you will be fine. You can find the help you need, but first you need to help yourself.
Just a hint, Hard SPL your phone 1st!!!!
Would hate to have to see another person crying out for help because they've bricked their phone and can't get it working again.....
This post was simply too ignorant even for me to help out!

True, but you know that as soon as something goes wrong, and a brick results, then there are gonna be more posts you are npt gonna want to respond to...

Why would there be posts about a bricked phone? There's info to read about how to "unbrick" you phone too
I typically ignore "Help me" or "I have a problem" subjects... Although I did look at this one and was going to bash the OP for not being descriptive.
Good to see that others beat me to it
As the 1st post was written with a ton of information available, what makes you think that anyone will read after bricking???
Okay I rooted my EVO about a week or so ago and Im running the Frost ROM... I like it but I would like to check out some other ROMs and what kind of addons or MODs that are available... I keep running across the term "dodexed" and "odexed"(?) i think is what it was...Can some one please explain to me what that means...
Also what is the differance in Sense and non sense ROMs... What is aosp??
Any clairification would be helpful...
Thanks
Dude you have over one hundred posts. And they're all questions about this and that. Are you aware of the fact that there is a search bar for these forums. I have seen this question asked a lot of times. Hell I even wondered but I searched before starting a thread about it.
Dude, put in the effort and do the work. Only good things will come from doing a little research.

haha deathsled beat me to it. seriously though... i believe (not sure) that this is correct.
dont quote me on it. correct me if i'm wrong.
so each apk has a matching .odex file that contains stuff for it. if you flash a theme a theme (altering framework-res.apk or other app) then the odex and apk dont match and you get system failiure. so odexed roms are unthemeable. i think thats about right. google it (thanks deathsled)
ahhh got it. google is friend. posted by berzerker

so baisically odex is compressed more and deodexed allows for themeing.

Wow, I was on my phone while at work...sorry if I thought some of the community would be nice enough to help me out instead of spending more time searching for the answers myself on the the XDA app, which I did didnt have anything come up...

No one wants to help someone who cant help themselves.
Try harder before posting next time please.

Seems like this kind of thing is all to common in the open source scene. Same type response was given on email lists when someone asked for help back in the 90s when trying to stuff linux on an old 386 box for the s&gs. Open source is teh 1337z!!!1! But you can get help for windows sans the ass chewing. I have never understood that.

All the flaming doesn't bother me, I can play this game all day long! I have done more than enough searching to be immune to this kind of treatment... I had a million questions in the begining and I only posted a few specific questions... and even though one can search the forums for an answer to a specific problem, more than some ppl here on XDA can't explain things clearly enough to be of any help to any one - skipping steps and being vague doesn't really help any one but yourself to raise your post count. Needless to say, most threads are useless... they 'cause more confusion than solutions. I'll keep doing what I want and you can keep flaming me 'cause you are better than me & I need a laugh every now and then...

How can I unroot the T-Mobile US G2 if I used the gfree method? I also had to use the guide for "new" G2's. http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14344-how-to-root-a-new-g2/
Can I just flash a T-Mobile US G2 stock rom? or does the thread that says not to apply a stock rom still apply? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
My current status is rooted with radio s-off, eng-hboot, sim-unlocked, and SuperCID.
What is the easiest way to get back to stock? Do I have to hex edit if I used the gfree method and what should I flash first?
Call me a jerk if you want but have you even bothered to look for your answer or did you just post this in hopes someone would hold your hand through the process? Seriously there is a guide on how to do it in the dev forum.

Well thanks for at least responding but yes I already did search for a guide. I also read the xda G2 wiki page on unrooting. I just want to clarify since I used the new process (linked in my first post) and I also flashed a eng-hboot.
I do not know how the new rooting process I did would affect the unrooting steps, especially since I had to do something dealing with the "misc_version".
Edit: I decided just to follow the wiki and it worked. I also didn't have to do anything special.

Hello everyone,
I have a HTC Desire 18181 that i want to sell it, and therefore unroot it to the starting condition.
My info are:
baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-Froyo_bravo_vs Root at Athena #9
My current version: 2.29.405.5 Droidzone - Starburst 1.3.3.5
I tried many roms from Shipped Roms but i cant seem to find my version. All the roms i tested produce either the result that its not the appropiate rom or a strange error that reports that my battery is below 30% (its 90%!!)
Anyome can help, will be appreciated

As others mentioned, wrong place to post. And to answer your question, you should search the dev section for the 'stock ruu'-thread. Run one of them and you're un-rooted and all.
Now please go read the forum policies
Edit: not just one of them, you need to find. The one matching your phone.
I wonder when are mods going to do something about this spaming off dev section. Maybe if sufficient amount of users will start f****** of n00bs they'll notice something is wrong...

Yep. I visit this forum most days and the standard replies (taking this thread as a prime example) and more annoying than the TS. Folk make mistakes - live with it and let the thread die a natural death.

It's not matter of level of experience, but level of stupidity. People who can't/won't/are lazy to use search and read, asking questions that were answered billions of times, asking for info that is available in sticky threads and posting "this rockz/I love you/can i have your autograph?" **** deserve to burn in BAN hell.
Users which actually do require help from senior members are only few. The rest is just lazy stupid little kids and ungrateful pigs, thinking that we are obligated to help them.
BULL****!
We already lost several great developers because of them and I'll fight them until my last breath, to slow down the process of turning this place into n00b swamp. 'Cause it's happening already, you mark my words on that.

Dude chill out man, we all start somewhere, some people have much more experience than others that doesn't make them "lazy stupid little kids and ungrateful pigs"
If you have a problem with people on the forums just leave them alone. i am in no way the most experienced guy here. i cant develop new ROMS/Apps/themes or anything to be honest. i just use what other people have made. i asked questions on how to flash a new rom when i joined the forums. i read the tutorials, does that make me a " lazy stupid little kid and an ungrateful pig"?
You read tutorials, yet you asked how to flash ROM?

To be exact i messed something up and my phone was stuck in a bootloop while flashing a ROM. And guess what, someone helped me out and got it working for me! Isn't that amazing! The wonders of people HELPING others out
I get there are loads of tutorials out there, telling people exactly what to do and if something goes wrong what they should do, but if someone ask's for help, why not reply with a helpful answer rather than being a complete prick?
Edit: Ignore this. Mods delete this post.

Because those tutorials exist purely for the purpose of answering FAQ, so newbies don't have to ask them all the time. And yet, they still do. There is a word for that, and that word is spamming.

I think the biggest annoyance with this thread is that the OP is clearly aware of how to flash ROMs, and therefore I would assume where to find them. Therefore a very quick look at the dev forum would have shown them the ICS builds currently being developed - making this thread needless.
