Phone got stolen. Need help with privacy! - HTC One X

My girlfriend got her one x stolen by some loser. after the incident she did everything that can be done about her privacy details.
the first thing she did was to get her line suspended from the service provider, then she went home immediately and changed all her passwords from facebook, ubersocial, gmail etc.
However, the problem now is that we figured that the thief would still have access to all that if he or she did not sign out. I tried searching for many ways to remotely log out and only manage to get facebook out of the way as they provide the option to log out of every other devices once we change the password. However, as for gmail and ubersocial.. we didn't find a possible way to do so.
IWe tested it through my S3. I went on my dlaptop and change my password for ubersocial and then I turned off and on my phone again only to find out that I can still tweet and read tweets even after my password was changed. It's very frustrating to know that the thief still has access to her privacy despite all her actions. if it helps, I'm from Malaysia.
PS: I tried androidlost but it requires me to send an sms to her phone to authenticate however she already terminated her line. she does not have phone lock, or any apps like lookout installed. So yeah, please help asap.
Thank you in advance.

What firmware was the phone running??I ask Bcoz the latest firmware 2.17 has a rescue app which erases all the phones data and does a factory reset..

But you stilul need the phone to acces it. And it requieres some pin code.

Also go to pc sign in her google account..go to android market in pc and install this remotely to phone..maybe if thief gets online through WiFi or anything this will track the phone down..

Just press continue and see...

I'm sure changing the password forces the app to makes you have to re-log again.

The rescue app is not for the purpose. It remote app for the customer services to fix your phone, not for wiping. User must enters PIN manually as inform by CS...
Perhaps it's too late to tell OP to used LockOut Plan B App..

Best option would have been.. install an app like android lost from play.google.com remotely and then control the phone from their website androidlost.com
You might even have got your phone back.
However since you have already changed your passwords, installing apps remotely won't probably be possible, still give it a try see if it works.

+1 for plan b.

Best app for this is gotya security app it will take photos if wrong lock key is entered and send it to your Gmail or Facebook with location. You can also play with the thief by sounding alarms, force your phone to ring any number, request location, display a lock screen message, take photos, and even unlock your phone all by sms commands and lots more its only £2 on market and has had 2 people arrested for stealing my phone not only that its handy when you think someone is snooping thru your phone at work

the thief would've sold ur phone to a shop anyway.
why worry lol
once he sold that phone, and once someone buys the phone, and the gps satellite gets activated (after the buyer inserts his simcard) , then u can track ur phone remotely. make a police report and keep the case on ongoing status.

No chance.
The phone will be wiped so any tracking app will be gone.

i use Zoner Antivirus since i got my HOX, to hunt eventually thieves down.. you can track via GPS and sent SMS with coords to another (chosen) phone number. it also notices you when some1 switches sim card
Good luck with urs!
e: i read that https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity&hl=de this app is the best anti theft thing.. its free and should be the best (4,7 out of 5) maybe it'll help u to install via Playstore or sth like that

I know it doesn't help the OP now,
But phone locator pro is what you should have.
Makes it difficult to uninstall
Locks your phone by text
Phone automatically locks if a different sim is used.
Takes a picture of your thief & emails it you
Locates your phone, even if data WiFi is disabled (it will turn it on)
Etc etc.
---
Because OP had no safe guards, I think IMEI block is the best he can hope for.

Just checked that app, has all the same features as PhoneLocator Pro - so, either will do.
Edit: Cerberus doesn't work properly on the HOX, first thing I noticed was the 'lock with pass code' doesntnwork at all.
The 'enter your pass code' screen doesn't show n the HOX, and then user just needs to swipe to unlock. - so, its not locked at all.
-----
I tested this app on the Nexus 7, and everything works as it should.
This app definitely has issues on the HOX.
Phone locator pro works perfectly on the HOX, but not at all on the Nexus 7. (Its not available in the play store, probably as its 'phone locator' )

[Q] Secure manager Software

Hello,
what Secure manager software you are using.
i'm trying to find good software.
i tryed f-secure ant-theft needed to reflash phone.
then Es Secure Manaager, didn't work.
so any suggestion?
WaveSecure and Lookout are two of the best security apps that I've tried.
I realy dont see the point to install any Secure manager software, if the phone get stolen and you send the lock command and the thief cant "use" it, but if the thief reinstall the rom WOLLA it works.
WaveSecure take US $ 19.90 for 1 Year and call it secure? LOL

I'm interested too.
I'm not afraid that someons install a new ROM. I'm afraid that the thief willhave acess to personal infmation like contact list, address. He will even have access to GPS information so he will know where I live.
Here in Brazil you can send the IMEI code to the carrier (with a police report) and they will preent the phone from working on any carrier here.
Hello,
I know that if thief is nerd he can get mine phone back by reflashing. From those lock command.
The he can get mine account information from sdcard. So that is what i dont want to happen. If he can get mine google account then he can get mine credit card info. And he get access mine personal stuff like contacts, email-accounts and facebook.
So thats why i want to get Security Software. Im not concorning if some one gets mine phone. I can get newone from store, but that personal information needs to be protected.
And i tried that Wave and it didnt get connection to wave server on 3g or in wifi.
I havent tried that samsungs software.

[Q] ??Tasker SMS GPS locate lost phone??

I've searched the far corners of the internet for how to get the retrieve location by sms functioning in Tasker. I've downloaded and applied both locate by sms profiles (locateme and locate by sms) from the Tasker wiki, neither work. I receive a return message with a link but the link takes me to a generic page in "Google-Places". I've also tried to use a separate profile to lock gps, as was suggested in some threads on other sites. I bring this directly to the Epic forum to see if any Epic owners have gotten a Locate by SMS Tasker profile to work. If you have gotten it to work would you post your context and tasks w/ variables. Thanks a ton to anyone who helps. This has been plaguing me since I bought the app.
Stock Rom, one click root w/ clockwork; superuser; etc

I'm a Tasker power-user, (I posted the Weather-adaptive alarm clock on the wiki), and I've been meaning to work on my "SOS" profile that alarms, vibrates (an SOS in Morse code, no less), flashes the LED, snaps and uploads pictures, redirects outgoing calls to my Google Voice number, and, of course, returns GPS coordinates. So far it does everything except upload photos and return GPS (kind of important!) If I've got some spare time this afternoon (gf is on my case to clean the house) then I'll see if I can get it to work.
EDIT - Okay, so what's been causing problems thus far is the sheer amount of time it's taking my Epic to acquire a GPS lock. It's just timing out constantly. How do you get a GPS location from a phone that refuses to achieve a lock?!
Thanks for the assistance. You probably already know about the timeout adjustments for gps etc. I will see if I can get a lock through gmaps or gizmo and then send the sms code. Let me know if you come up with anything.

Yeah... maybe I'm just having bad luck or whatever but my GPS just isn't locking at all. I send the SMS, my GPS flicks on, and it tries to get a location, but no dice. I've maxed Tasker out at 240 seconds but it wouldn't make a difference if it was 1000 seconds at this point. I can't get a lock at all. I'm going to try a few things to see if I can get it to cooperate. I'm getting the return SMS but all I get is %LOC instead of the GPS coordinates, and looking at Google Maps it's easy to tell why; I've got a GPS ring with a radius of over a mile circling my position.
im trying to get it working too, it all works except for when i get the coordinates it says im buy nigeria in a ocean................any thoughts?
For whatever reason I just tested it after getting a lock and it sent back coordinates. I know the gps cache is messed up. Is that why I can always get a lock at/near school but never at home? I'm near school right now and used the profile located on the wiki. Battery % did not work however. Oh well, glad to finally see some progress. Should I have problems with getting a gps lock 10miles from my school?

Good to see you're making progress. After nearly 3 days with absolutely no GPS lock on my phone, I've reflashed and got GPS functioning again. Going to retest my Tasker profile as soon as Titanium Backup is done restoring my apps.

Obviously it thinks you're at latitude and longitude coordinates 0,0. I'll post up a new profile with a different way of pulling up the phone's location in Google Maps; I don't like the way they did it in that profile, not how I would have done.
I must apologize, I did not use a wiki profile. I used a profile that references a separate profile to establish a lock. I figured out why I cannot get a lock at home. I use a femtocell and its gps is terrible (off by a couple hundered miles) and when aGPS tries to aid in locate the nearest satellites they are way off.
For those that may still be having trouble.
Create profile w/ Name: GetGPS and Context: Location (doesn't matter where you are)
Task "Stop"
done
Create profile w/ Context "Received Text" (whatever you want)
Create Task with this
1)GPS On
2)Wifi On
3)Profile Status Name:GetGPS Set:On
4)Wait 3min.
5)Send SMS Number: %SMSRF
6)GPS Off
Did this and it worked, away from home that is.

i just remember the gps on my epic sucks. its off by a few miles when i use google maps. is there a fix for this? ive read this is a kwn issue for the epic. thx
so what server address does that use to get gps ?
I'm not sure but I believe Tasker uses Gmaps for its positioning. When you set up the GetGps profile that it references, the map looks identical.

?
So what's the adress? Don't I need to type it in the new profile ??
No the way the second profile references the first there is no web address needed. It gets a lock and automatically populates the location variable then the second profile references the first (location variable) and replies to the text accordingly. It is the first time I've gotten it to work. Hope it helps.

(virgin mobile cdma) Random trick that gets your data connection back

So after I rooted my HTC one v, I Went crazy flashing different roms and kernels. Everything was all good until my data was disconnecting from the network..so now I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out the solution.so I went on the virgin mobile USA site, logged in my account, went to the lost phone section and disconnected my service then put it back on again.minutes later vm tells you your data is back on.and then out of nowhere my data connects to my network!!!!! I was so happy! Lol I hope this method works for yall
I believe this works on the CDMA phones, because the network can push the proper data to the phone.
On the GSM/Sim Card equipped models, you have to do the following:
Settings -> Mobile Network Settings -> Access Point Names -> Menu -> New APN
Google for your network providers 'APN settings' then insert the settings into the form, when done save, you may have to make several as some operators have different APNs for MMS, Data, and Tethering.
Settings -> Mobile Network -> Network Operators
Choose your preferred network operator. The network you put the APNs in for should show up with a Star instead of the standard circle.
After doing these, you should power down the phone, wait a minute, then turn it back on. After the boot up process, it may take between 10 to 20 minutes for the network to handshake with the new APN settings.

Did you have to call VM to turn your phone service back on? My Data has been not working for over a week now and they can't figure out why. I was gonna try this method but not if it means dealing with "customer care" again.

Actually you don't. You can just deactivate and reactivate your service from the site without customer service.I've seen your post on the extreme Rom and a week later the same situation happened to me as well. It's definitely a weird data connection issue.if replacing your phone didn't work and my trick didn't work then try my method again because I was just in your situation.

My mobile network would connect (or at least say it would?) I mean messages and voice worked fine just not data unless I was connected to WiFi.
I haven't received a message yet, but I waited about 10 minutes.... and OMFG it works! LOL
I can't believe whatever the issue is that doing this fixes persisted over to the replacement phone and that they can't even figure this one out. I even mentioned this method to the "support" person when I called them after my replacement phone didn't work and they didn't seem to think anything of it. I only wish I could've done this before I requested my replacement.
So yeah, totally works, and thanks.

Well this seems to be a temporary fix. I unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP and then SuperSU and then upon reboot I didn't have data over the mobile network again. I guess I'll wait and see what VM says when they call me back. With as often as I'm messing with my phone I really don't want to be suspending my service once a week.

I can, cause it was temporary in my case.
If I get bored later I'll run it again and let the phone completely boot in between steps and see when it actually drops.
Last time I did unlock, flash recovery, install SuperSU all at once.
Oh btw, never did get a message about data (probably cause it stopped working again) but I did finally get one 7.5 hours after turning services back on that "Your phone will now make calls again." LOL
So is it just me or is this weird....
My phone is still having issues so I did the trick again and suspended my account. BUT I haven't re-enabled it and my data is working....
I tried making a call (just to make sure I couldn't) but saw the3G activity light blinking for both Tx and Rx and was like "Hmm..." so opened play store and all the missing images loaded. Hit the magazines section (which I never go into) to see what happens and all those images load too. Head to the music section and preview the free song of the day and it streamed perfectly.
So, is it just me or is it weird that my data instantly works when I suspend my account? I realize Virgin Mobile has unlimited data, but it seems if you're gonna suspend the account by doing the Lost/Stolen option that the data shouldn't work either, not just the voice.
And more importantly, what is going on with my phone that I can't have working data service and voice service at the same time?!?
So yeah time for the fun to start...gonna re-enable service and wait for the messages about everything being restored before I mess with the phone, and also fully boot in between unlocking, flashing TWRP, and rooting this time to see if/when I lose data again. Also just gonna simply reboot and see if that kills it too. So....fingers crossed....
EDIT: So no luck, after about 2 hours from when I turned service back on it stopped working again
Didn't even do anything to it, just left it alone. Also, this time it took about 11 hours for the message about my phone being able to make calls again to come through.

I just had the same issue... 3g would connect but no data going through. Texts and phone calls worked fine. After about an hour call with "phone support" including a transfer to an "actual tech" I was given a ticket number and told this would be transferred to the corporate office. And get a response in 3 to 5 business days... by Wednesday. (in my experience this has never been the case)
I tried your solution of "Lost my phone" and deactivating it and literally within a minute I was getting my emails and "New Items" from a couple of apps i have installed. I never get a message about it being deactivated. About 10 minutes after I reactivated my account (I had to log out and wait about 5 minutes before it would let me reactivate) I got a text saying your phone will now make calls again.
THANKS TONS. This has been driving me nuts for the last 2 days since it started.
BTW, both "Techs" did very little troubleshooting. The most the 2nd did was go to My account, and click on "I need Help" which starts a self diagnostic to check the phone and data connectivity. Then as he was on the phone for about 10 minutes waiting for it to finish he tried to blame it on a outage in my area.... which i asked why as my wife has the exact same phone (the HTC Evo V) and she has no issues when she was sitting 5 feet from me then. He was kinda stumped.
The diagnostics also gives a link to call Virgin Mobile, and more diagnostics below that. Actually pretty decent since it has some basic diagnostics all in once place, to test phone, data, and battery issues.
Again Thanks a TON.

The diagnostics also gives a link to call Virgin Mobile, and more diagnostics below that. Actually pretty decent since it has some basic diagnostics all in once place, to test phone, data, and battery issues.
Again Thanks a TON.

[MOD] Enable Phone Calling / Incoming & Outgoing free calls [Google Voice users]

New N7 '13 owner and decided to mod the framework-res on the Nexus 7 to enable its voice capabilities. Never been happy downloading 3rd party apps such as Sendhub, grooveip, etc to make phone calls plus they have limitations on the number of minutes included.
I did a search to see if this has already been done but came up empty in any case sorry if this has been covered previously.
***This process takes a total of 5 minutes even though it looks longer!
This will enable incoming & outgoing calls for free. This will work only with a Google Voice account however. Steps below.
This is for KK 4.4.3 stock Rom's as tested, may work on other Rom's but understand this will flash a stock framework-res.apk onto your system. Anyone running Xposed may have issues as well but not sure. I have included a BTS (Back To Stock) zip which in case of bootloop or something wrong you can just flash it to get a completely stock framework back. If you have a different Rom then just replace the BTS zip with your framework-res.apk and it will flash it back to the way you had it... but make sure you backup YOUR framework-res.apk before you do this!
Ok now for the steps...
1) Go here and get yourself a free phone number CallCentric

It will only allow for a NY number but who cares no one will ever see this number since it will be attached to your google voice. Fill in the new customers fields, confirm your email, then goto your dashboard and you should see the following:
Only pay attention to the 2 things you need that are highlighted, write them down or keep this tab open as you will need those 2 numbers in a second.
2) Now flash the zip 'N7_WIFI_ENABLE-CALL.ZIP' After boot up hopefully everything is ok and you should now see the dialer/phone icon in your app drawer. Click on it and proceed to the next step.
3)Once in the phone app go into its settings then select call settings and then select Accounts. Upper right corner select Add account. This is where you will need 1 of those previous numbers from step 1. For username put in the number from your callcentric dashboard that starts with the 1777.... and for password use the password you use to sign into your callcentric account when you signed up. And for Server use callcentric.com then click save in the upper right. It will then try and register and once registered you will see 'Recieving calls'
4)Open up Google Voice on a web browser and go into its settings. Under the phone tab you will now 'Add another phone' name it whatever you want and then put in that other number from your callcentric dashboard. This is that free number from NY you got. Once you save that Google Voice will now attempt to call that number to confirm it. Your Tablet should now ring and you will answer it and type in the 2 digit code it asks for.
Congrats, your tablet now receives all incoming calls to your google voice number.
*To make outgoing calls 1 last step is needed.
5) Included in the zip supplied was the Voice+ apk. Install that as you would normally install an app. Open it up and select your google account that is attached to your google voice. Now checkmark the 'Outgoing call integration' then select 'Callback numbers' and drag your callcentric phone number to the top where it says visible numbers and all other numbers drag below into hidden numbers.
Now your N7 should be a fully functional telephone. Forgot to mention that calls will be made through loudspeaker though... have not tried heaphone calling or bluetooth.

*There are 2 flashable zips through recovery inside the attachment below and 1 apk to install
Hell yes. Thank you.

you should try to make this xposed friendly that way we dont need stock but nice work none the less
I couldnt get this to stick - kept bootlooping. I'm completely stock but for unlock/root.
Thanks Working fine
Tried this twice on stock rooted 4.4.2. Lost mobile data completely both times, but was able to receive/make calls over WiFi. When I say I lost mobile, I mean the option was wiped completely from my nexus like it was a WiFi only device. BTS file would not correct either. Glad I made a backup. Will be watching for further updates.

I got it working on a rooted 4.4.3 stock flashable ROM using multiboot.
I must say, this works very well! Thanks for getting this working. It is quite amazing!
I tried it on 4.4.4 and did not have success, but I gave up quickly to try it on 4.4.3. I do have xposed on my 4.4.4 ROM.

I tried jdevils 4.4.4 ROM through multirom. Everything is working.
I flashed ROM and then booted into it. Setup my Google account and then rebooted back into recovery.
Then I flashed the zip and booted into system. Followed your setup and installed apk.
Everything works.

Just guessing but this is probably only for the Nexus 7 "flo" which is the WiFi only model.

How would I change the outgoing call setting on an N5? I need to setup wifi calling of some sort but haven't been able to figure it out. Missed a couple job opportunities.

How would you miss calls with the outgoing call setting? Wouldn't a missed call be an incoming call? If you are looking for a job and need a reliable phone, you should just pop for a $45 straight talk sim for a month. It's a decent plan. unlimited talk/text and 3GB of LTE data.
Though, this topic is for the nexus 7. You may want to check the nexus 5 forum for information on this topic.
Best of luck with the job hunt.

Thanks for the luck with the job hunt. Would you be willing to buy that 45$ sim for me? That's kinda the issue, person.... I can't afford a plan or even the cheapest solution that I've found, 5$ for 500 outgoing minutes, but can't even get that setup because the phone tries for the mobile operator even though it's in airplane mode.. Once upon a time I could use talk/ google voice. Can't do that now and hangouts doesn't have VOip on ze 'droid yet.
The best solution i've found is with a SIP provider, but that gives me only free incoming calls. It's decent and works through the stock dialer, I just for the life of me can't figure out how to get it to use it for outgoing calls too, even when selected as primary phone. I thought I could use google voice, like in the guide, but it didn't work. Missed opportunities due to the way that google voice worked and in conjunction with terrible cell phone service, missed a call today and didn't get the voicemail through google voice till 5:15pm. If anyone has a method for free outgoing calls too, i'd be stoked, haven't found one yet.
Sell your nexus 5 and get a cheaper phone and use the extra money to buy service.
Then get job and make money. Once you have that you can buy stuff you can afford and don't ask people to pay for your basic needs.
Problem solved...Take care of your basics before buying nice to have things.

Thanks for posting this, I would really like to try this but I was wondering if this would still work on CleanRom , I am also using a lot of xposed modules , would it still work or would I get a boot loop? Thanks
guys i got a question..
Ehm google voice is only in USA and canada? or go this also in europe? (germany/austria)?
Thx for any Answer !
OK i got it now..but it don´t work on liquid smooth 4.4!
next days i will try it on a 4.3 rom!
I wonder if there's anything that works beside CallCentric. The way it takes you on a meandering ride beginning with innocuous requests for personal information ("your real name, your real address, your .... And how about 911 calls? How about this and that...") before popping up the bait: "how about your credit card number?" Why, "due to abuses, we need to have it on file," so forth... Give me the creeps. Sorry OP, don't mean to appear I'm questioning your good intentions and help.
Tried this a few times now, all I'm getting is boot loops. Does this still work??
I use the app Talkatone, it has free Wi-Fi incoming and outgoing calls. Also free text messages.

This is no longer needed since hangouts has google voice calling.
Bootloop tried many times only loops.

Weather and clock widget issue

I've been extremely annoyed by the default weather widget not wanting to work as intended, I mean, the only way that works for me is to enter my city manually, that's exactly how I've always wanted to use it but because of the Lockscreen weather widget is always showing the annoying "weather unavailable error" I've tried everything I possibly could think of and nothing seems to to fix it.
My location is on using the battery saving option, that's the way I just use it in all my devices, so I thought it should work if I change it to high accuracy, ehh wrong, the Auto location weather has never worked, not out of the box, not even after I factory reset it twice and not even after debranding it from T-Mobile to the Unlocked US version (it requires unlocking the bootloader so it reseted again), no matter what I do or what Location option I use it never works.
Location is working fine for all the other apps that requires it, just not for the Weather app, it has never asked me for a location permission nor there is an option to allow for it on the App settings, there is no lockscreen options that I can turn on or off and even by resetting the weather and Weather widget apps data and cache, disable and re-enable them, the lockscreen widget still shows and still has the annoying error message.
As you can see I've tried everything and by doing a Google search it seems that it's a known and common HTC issues for years, some people have managed to fix it by doing some of the things I've already done but most of them have never fixed them. I really can't understand how HTC can have an app like the one on the lockscreen that you can't even edit its settings and to make things worst it doesn't work. It should simply pulls the settings from the Home screen one, and work just like that one, but even if you add a city manually it seems to requires the Location to be on so it shows your actual location's weather. That's a huge bug, but the worst one is that the actual location feature doesn't want to work no matter what I do. The error it always gives me when trying to use the Current Location weather is, "unable to detect current weather, pull down to refresh" , it has never worked.
Anyone else with the same issue? Obviously I'm not going to factory reset a 4th time just to see if it finally works, I can deal with the home screen one as at least it works as I want, with manual cities entered, but the one from the lockscreen can't be changed and seeing the error all the time just triggered my worst OCD symptoms.
Hard to believe I'm the only one with this issue...
But to give you all an update, just 1 hour ago I tried again and changed my location to High accuracy, then went to the Location Scanning settings and turned on Wifi scanning, in the weather widget I turned on the Auto detect my location option, rebooted the phone and for my surprise and for the first time I saw the Lockscreen widget showing my location, so I immediately went to the weather app just to see if the Current Location information was finally showing but there was the usual "Unable to detect Current Location" message, after seeing this I went back to my Lockscreen and there were no more weather information and got back the "Weather unavailable" error again.
I'm giving up here, this is just BS and an obvious bug that seems to be happening for years with at least 4 of the last HTC flagships and Sense, do a Google search and you'll see, and worst thing is that it seems nobody is paying attention to it.
Having the same issue here and it so frustrating. Had an A9 as a work phone and the Weather Unavailable bug was infuriating, got the 10 and it seems that the bug is still there.

Well, what worries me the most now is that it seems that you are also in Puerto Rico, San Lorenzo, I live in Caguas, is it possible that this weather app and widget somehow just works in the USA and once it recognizes our location outside the Continental USA gives the error? Pretty dumb if it's just that.
It dont seem to happen with my sister's M9 and my mother's M8. But it could be triggered by it. Would you check if when you choose the weather option on the widget your actual city shows up as a city that is not editable through the settings?

One of the occasions before the number of apps and services resets I've done until now, I saw my City just like yours and I assumed that it was pulling that info from my Contact information or simply that at one point it indeed pulled my Current Location and stored that, but even then, like I said, the Current Location on the weather app has never showed any information, it has always given me the error and just until a couple of hours ago the lockscreen widget has never worked either, a couple of hours ago after another set of app resets and a reboot it worked for a second, for the first time, and once I entered to the weather app and saw the Current Location error again, when I went back to the lockscreen the widget had already lost the info and was showing the error message again.
So maybe it does retrieve it but dont recognize it ?

That's what I'm not afraid of, simply because if that's the case we will be stuck on this forever. Best case scenario and the reason of me posting this here is to try to find a fix or maybe to understand why exactly this happens.
Interesting discovery and update about this issue.
I have the HTC 10 and an S7 edge, so the idea was to alternate between the 2 every once in a whole, so on Tuesday I went back to my S7 edge and I've been using it for the past 5 days, what I immediately realized after I restarted the HTC 10 after removing the Sim card and SD card was that there was no more Weather unavailable error, the Lockscreen widget was showing the information just fine, only thing different was that it didn't have a SIM card installed so what for me was very strange. I don't know if the Desktop widget was going to work or not because I ready have disabled and installed a 3rd party app that was working as the original should have.
Well, today I decided to switch phones again and for my surprise as soon as I installed the Sim card on it and went to the lockscreen, there was the error again, so it can't be a coincidence, there's a huge bug affecting current location information when using what at least seems to be an out of the continental USA carrier, even when I'm using a T-Mobile one, that here in Puerto Rico is the same than in the States. So it may be an APN thing or simply it detects location as out of CONUS and errors out, it's so annoying.
Any ideas guys?

Replicated it! So the theory of this problem being caused by being out of CONUS and having an American sim card could be the problem.

Are you with T-mobile also? Do you also have problems with it not detecting your Time Zone? Since day 1 I need to use manual Time Zone because it has never detected it, so now I'm thinking it may be related. One more thing, are you using the sim card that came with the phone or an old one from other phones?

AT&T and yes, ever since day 1 had the Time Zone problem. When you hit the time on the widget it triggers the Clock app and noticed that on the world clock my home time zone is set to miami. I bet this problem have to do with that. The phone getting a location from the network not being in PR, GPS locating you in PR, the app validates then falses and boila 'Location Unavailable'.

Yes, that's my theory too, it can't understand having a location from the GPS or Wifi that says that we are in Puerto Rico and a US carrier Sim card.
Do you use an old Sim card, one that has been used in other phones before or are you using the one that comes with the phone? I've been just thinking on maybe switch the Sim card for the one that came with it just to see what happens but I also don't want to simply waste a new card just to get the same error.
I have exactly the same issue, I live in the Channel Islands and when I put my Airtel sim into my phone the weather widget on both the lock screen and the home screen shows "location unavailable". However when I take my sim out the widget works perfectly fine! If you have found a way to fix this problem please could you post it here; I am currently trying to contact HTC to report the problem!!!
I had a 55 minutes chat with one of HTC CSR and after a long and frustrating simple step by step troubleshooting, she promised me that she was going to pass the information to the Dev department, I urge you all to do the same, if not, they will simply take this as an isolated incident.

Since I have an Unlocked version I had to use the sim card I have been using for all my phones lately. So having and old or new sim card does not mean anything, for my opinion.

So... did you manage to fix the issue with the lockscreen widget? I live in Mayaguez and I have an old T-mobile sim card that I had to cut to make it nano, and it's not picking the location either.
Or maybe is the "Junta de control fiscal" that is starting to fu***** with us??? Who knows what the problem is... D - :

No, still the same and it's not the card as I have a brand new Nano card on it and as soon as I insert it does the error, only way it works is with no card and in wifi, just plain stupid and a shame that they seem to not give a *amn to fix it.
I just gave up.

In the viper rom (great rom btw) there in an option in the app "venom tweaks" to change the lock screen to the AOSP JB lock screen. Still no weather but after least it doesn't say "location unavailable" Watch the picture attached.
I'm in the same boat as you guys. I remember around 4 or 5 years ago in my HTC M7 the weather widget used to work flawlessly but after a Sense update everything stopped working. Then I got the HTC One M9 and the same thing. Recently I bought an HTC One A9 to my wife and also has the same issue. So as erasat said there must be a bug in the application that affects users outside US continent.
