I'm using a GN (Flashed to Yakju then JB update) and I manually toggle my data (notification toggle) on and off. About once every two days my GN will get stuck with mobile data off. Thinking its the app, I would go to settings > mobile data > ON but that won't do anything. The only way to turn it back on is to reboot. A friend of mine does the same thing using a different app and he has the same problem.
Anyone else got this issue? Any fixes?

What app? Tbh, sounds more like a poorly programmed app instead of an Android issue.
When I was on stock using elixir 2 notification toggles I never had any problems. So like the previous poster suggested, maybe the app your using.

I'm pretty sure it's not the app as data won't turn on when I go to Settings > Data Usage > Toggle the switch that was on, back to off, then back to on again. ALso my friend is using another app to manually turn on/off his data and is having the same problem. The app I'm using is called notification toggle though.

If you uninstall that app, and only use Android's built in toggle, does it ever get stuck then?
Hm, i saw this exact same problem, only with the Bluetooth toggle. I also use Notification Toggle, and when the bug occurs, the switch is permanently stuck in android settings. Very weird. I haven't had the problem in a while though. Maybe happened 3 times with jb ota.
I'm also not convinced that it's NT's fault. I use AutoAP app which toggles airplane mode whenever I'm in WiFi range, and that changes the BT mode too.

I've just received my Desire, and have asked O2 for a new data plan (I used to be on Blackberry). That won't go through until midnight today, and they will charge me £3 mer MB with NO LIMIT until then! So, I need a way to turn data off (apart from WIFI) as soon as I turn the phone on (it's currently charging). I've read some reports of people turning it off, but certain apps turn it on again.
What's the simplest way to do this please, until tomorrow? Thanks!
Hold down the power button until the menu comes up then turn off mobile network.

Ok great, thanks. Yea now I've turned it on, it's pretty obvious.
Is there any chance of an app turning it on again without my knowledge? In some forums people say it can happen, but I THINK that may have been with WinMo.

I've heard of it in the past but not on 2.1, a rogue application maybe but they shouldn't do. It would be pretty easy to notice if you were out of wifi range though as the data icon would appear in the notification bar, your best bet would be to just check on it if you install any app that mentions data in it's software permissions.

Ok I'll do that. I'll also look for an app that'll show me data usage. I know there are some around.
Thanks for your help.
I'm in the same position as you (but my data plan doesn't go live till the 26th! lol), so I set up the phone to WiFi only thanks to the option on the setting screen, and so far it has only connected when I switched on the data toggle. I'll post here if I come across any apps that will connect though.

I've installed a program called NetCounter. It doesn't seem to count Wifi with the Desire (others have had the same problem), but for you and I that doesn't matter. I've got it set to alert me if 'somehow' the phone starts using data from O2. So it's just an extra safeguard. Sorry you have to put up with that until the 26!
I have the same question and I was told APNDroid does it too. Is it better to use APNDroid or the bult-in option?

Just add the widgets for network data, GPS, Wifi to the home screen (I've stuck mine under the clock) easy to turn on and off with single keys presses then rather than holding the power button down. I've also added the bluetooth shortcut but that takes a massive 2 key presses to turn on or off. I've found it useful for saving battery life as well.

He wanted the quickest way after turning it on, holding the power button is quicker than finding and adding those widgets for the first time.
So I turn my mobile network off to conserve battery. But if somebody sends me any mms (picture or multi-person) and I turn on my network after the fact, it just perpetually says downloading.

It probably doesn't really start properly since data was off. Maybe try to rebooting your phone to see if it will do it then.
Are you manually turning it off and on? You could try an app that automates it so that when you get a message and the screen lights up (assuming you have that setting enabled) it turns on and see if that helps. Though I have found that using such apps will sometimes cause your data to not reenable and require either toggling manually, toggling airplane mode, or rebooting.

Yes I am using the toggle in the shade. I will give the app a shot but my guess would be failure since the network seems to need to be on when the message comes in rather than an automated toggle after the fact

If you enable screen on for notifications it may have data back on before the download actually starts. It may not work. But I have used screen off profiles before and not had issues with MMS other than the occasional failure to reenable. Do you turn WiFi and GPS off? It may be enough to allow for leaving data on.

If it doesn't work I would just leave it on. Data alone probably won't hurt battery to terribly bad.

well. what ive noticed is that in NJ it constantly works to stay connected and really drains power, but in NC i can go about 2 days without a problem.
I had that problem but I let the data settle for about 30 seconds before trying to download the mms and it works for me. Turn off auto retrieve too. I don't need to do that on my s3 of course

That's because NJ sucks balls.... Try going to settings, applications and force stop the messaging app. Then open messages and try downloading again. If for some reason that doesn't work, a reboot should.
Try this:
Be sure that you have good connection and you might want to force quit messages if this continues.
I'm hoping someone can help out.
I picked up a used SGH-T989D (Telus, not T-Mobile) and I'm looking for a ROM that is done up so it can be used strictly as an MP3 player. I've seen plenty of posts about people since I've started working on this but nothing about any particular ROM to look at. Ideally, all radio would be turned off or removed except wireless.
At the moment I have the phone rooted with SuperLite 4.1.2 and running WinAmp to test with. I'm getting a constant problem with the system intermittently locking up for 2-3 seconds. When music is playing all audio stops during that time. Running apps only shows gapps and gservices running.
Does anyone know of a stripped down T989 ROM with battery and audio optimizations?
How about just popping the phone on airplane mode

The problem with Airplane mode is you have manually go into the settings to allow the wireless to come up. Rebooting causes that the wireless to become disabled again. I know minor. The phone isn't going to be used as a phone anymore so I would prefer to have the radio turned off permanently.

i believe that the wifi functionality of the phone is connected with the mobile radio.

You're correct, after flashing with a light-weight rom I'm able to turn on flightmode with wifi still running.
After upgraded to kitkat, I noticed wifi icon at status bar will be missing after many days. Wifi will indicates as off and it couldn't be turned on. YET wifi is working fine. The only way to clear is to reboot. Anyone seen this?

I have the issue too. Anyone have any idea how to fix? Thanks.
I noticed the same thing too. Turning airplane mode on and off fixes it for me. I just got the tablet a few days ago, so I havent done much testing, but do you guys have " turn wifi off during sleep" setting on in the advanced wifi menu? I was suspecting that to be the culprit.
I realized this thread is nearly a year old, but I just bought this (used) Note tablet, and experienced the exact symptoms as described by the other posters. The wifi issue happens almost every time my tablet sleeps for more than a hour. Toggling airplane mode on/off fixes the issue, only temporarily, until the next sleep. I am wondering if there are any clues to what causes the issue.
Is it a bug in the factory rom, or something that I installed?
Here is the info of my tablet:
- US model SM-P600 (XAR), with latest stock rom UEUCOB1
- Rooted by TWRP 2.8.5.1
- Xposed installed with these modules:
Wanam
No Wake of Charge for S5, and
App Settings (only change rotation setting for one 3rd party app).
I am considering do a factory reset and setting it up again from scratch. But I want to hear if others are experiencing this issue even with 100% stock (non-rooted) rom. By the way, the issue only happens when you set Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to either "Never" or "Only when plugged in". I would really appreciate someone with non-rooted rom letting me know if this happens to them when they set their tablets to allow Wifi to sleep with tablet.
Hey all, I have an unlocked S9+ from Sammy. At night when I unlock the device it opens then in a second seems like the screen adjust dimmer (I even thought maybe it was blue light mode). I have checked everything. Automatic brightness is off, blue light is off. I have toggled screen mode from adaptive display to basic.
Can't figure out what's up. Anyone have any ideas?
Anyone experiencing the same thing?
TIA!
