Malware? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was wondering if my GS3 might have malware since the phone notifies me that I've won a $1000 gift card and crap like that. Anyone know of an app that verifies what is giving me these notifications?

Sounds to me like you have an app that uses ads that will display in the notification window.
Install any free apps recently?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Yup if this just started recently, check the last couple of apps you installed. Bet you one of those is throwing ads on you notification bar.

Anything porn related or fart related should not be downloaded, joking aside there will be apps that have malware just just read what you are installing before you install it if you are unsure of it. I have had android since the 2nd week of the G1's release and haven't had one malware app on my phone. Just be smart about it and you'll be alright.

Sounds like airpush or whatever it is called. Search airpush remover in the market.

download add on detector it'll tell you the rogue app

I used the air pusher app & it turned out it was the N64 emulator app I got of the play store. Now I have to download all the apps I uninstalled

That's good that you found out which app caused spam
Sent from my SGH-T999

yeah, it's called air push ads. just use any air push detector to find out which app has it. usually, lower-end emulator\ROM finders have them. i had the same problem with the app "emulator roms". this is the app:

not quite
the one that comes with the phone is a DEMO version
the one in GetJar is full version
and forum rules dictates we are not allowed to talk about any other version as all others are illegal
got it, I better read the rules again and to see if I miss anything. So much stuff to learn. Didn't mean to cause any troubles.

.....sorry
I thought getjar was legal.
Won't happen again.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Get jar is legal.
yes,
Android Market
Amazon Market
Getjar
and there was one more i forgot the name Snoop, snoopy or something like that i forgot the name, it is a Market only for Developments
and the soon to be CyanogenMod Market (not launched yet)
only those 4~5 are considered legal in XDA all other ones are either grey market or black market as in warez

[Q] Carrier Name failure

The Carrier Name on my friends Galaxy Nexus is showing additionally to the real name this string '@@@' (see image below). It is running ICS 4.0.2
Does anybody know where this could possibly come from?

Sigh... this was mentioned at least once before. It's most likely a malware app.

I know and i tried to search for this in the forums but to no avail. guess the string '@@@' is hard to search(find). Google totally ignores it too

I'll see if I can find the thread. If not, check the apps. See what third party apps have been downloaded and then we can give more insight to what it might be.

I had this as well but it seemed to go away on its own after an hour or so? Only happened once though....
Something similar happened once where ROGERS became @OGERS on the phone. It cleared after I rebooted.
No malware
Stock unlocked/unrooted 4.0.1 yakjuux
I sent the screenshot I took to Google, but as expected, they didnt care
A simple reboot was not enough.
He had to remove the battery as well. This fixed it and the characters did not reappear since than.

ICS style task switching
I use an app for this, which name is "Perfect task switcher".
It shows a preview of running apps (only stock based roms, not in CM7)
You can set it to show only running tasks.
I tried a lot of task manager, switcher apps. And I found that the best .I think you like it.
Here is the market link:

[APP]Amazon App Store (Some Free Apps!)

Now most of us already have the Google Play app store so why would we need another App Store? If you install the Amazon App Store you can get in on some Free "paid" apps through their promotional or daily freebies.
Just install the Amazon App Store and browse through their selections:
How to Install: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000626391
Just downloaded:
Office Suite Professional 6 $14.99 $0.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051UP5NQ/
TuneIn Radio Pro $0.99 $0.00 http://www.amazon.com/TuneIn-Radio-Pro/dp/B004XDYJRU

}
Enjoy!
(only thing though is if you want to redownload.. most likely you'll have to use the Amazon App rather than just straight from google lol, can also become a bloatware and the DRM checks suck)
You know these daily freebies have been around for about a year and a half now right? Its more of a pain than anything because you need to have the amazon app store *installed* on your device to even run the apps that you have downloaded through the store. And devs don't update their apps on the amazon app store anywhere near as frequently as they do on Play.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Yep I've known about this and actually didn't want to use it because of the bg usage but today they had the office app free so I wanted to test it out. Checked my running apps and amazon wasnt running so at least for the use of the app, amazon doesn't have to be on but DRM checks may be there.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I downloaded some free apps before, I used them without the Amazon store installed.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Not a fan of amazon app store. they update their apps so late.
I paid for TuneIn Radio and I don't even use it..I find myself using iheartradio and songza and 8tracks ..all which are free and last 2 are audio commercial free.
Sent from my Nexus 4 16GB using Tapatalk 2
Only works in the US and even if you bypass it, the apps won't run unless Amazon appstore is running.

Stop Google updates

I know this question has been posed before but...its a shame to be on these great custom roms such as Project x and Jv4 and have themed versions of Google apks like playstore and you tube, only to be borked by Google play services that updates to current versions! Can this be averted at all, I heard that the process can be froze via Titanium backup? Any help would be great thanks. ...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Uncheck Automatic Updates in Play Store settings... That should be all you need to do.

Yeah that might do it too, I never do that... I just back the important ones up with Ti Backup. Also try going into the App Manager, hit menu button, then "Clear App Preferences". And if it asks you when installing an app don't hit Verify and Install. It checks the Play Store when you do that.
Ok tried all the above even after a full restore unticked all do not update and sync, and uninstall updates and it just bounces right back to new versions of play store, YouTube and google voice, currently looking for correct process to freeze possibly with TB
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
They push them through Google Play Services now, you can't stop it, you just have to find a themed version of the latest.
