[APP]Amazon App Store (Some Free Apps!) - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Now most of us already have the Google Play app store so why would we need another App Store? If you install the Amazon App Store you can get in on some Free "paid" apps through their promotional or daily freebies.
Just install the Amazon App Store and browse through their selections:

Just downloaded:
Office Suite Professional 6 $14.99 $0.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051UP5NQ/

Enjoy!
(only thing though is if you want to redownload.. most likely you'll have to use the Amazon App rather than just straight from google lol, can also become a bloatware and the DRM checks suck)

You know these daily freebies have been around for about a year and a half now right? Its more of a pain than anything because you need to have the amazon app store *installed* on your device to even run the apps that you have downloaded through the store. And devs don't update their apps on the amazon app store anywhere near as frequently as they do on Play.

Yep I've known about this and actually didn't want to use it because of the bg usage but today they had the office app free so I wanted to test it out. Checked my running apps and amazon wasnt running so at least for the use of the app, amazon doesn't have to be on but DRM checks may be there.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah I downloaded some free apps before, I used them without the Amazon store installed.

Not a fan of amazon app store. they update their apps so late.

I paid for TuneIn Radio and I don't even use it..I find myself using iheartradio and songza and 8tracks ..all which are free and last 2 are audio commercial free.

Only works in the US and even if you bypass it, the apps won't run unless Amazon appstore is running.

google having access to your data. I like to keep as much of my data separated as much as possible. I already use Chrome, G+, Android, GVoice, and Google as my primary search engine. I think I'll keep dropbox for my cloud storage....only using 25% anyway.

Google Drive gives you 5GB of free storage. It syncs with your Google Docs and I assume there will be even more perks with Google integration like everything else.
Dropbox gives you 2GB free. Unencrypted URLs, limited sharing, and pineapple. I moved away from it as fast as I could.
If Google Drive is quicker(and less douchy) than SugarSync then I'm making the jump right quick. I hope there will be a Linux client if there isn't one already.
Drop box isn't as bad as u make it sound
I have about 13gb and I never paid a cent
There are guides on sites like life hacker that teach u how to get around 26gb free

Malware?

I was wondering if my GS3 might have malware since the phone notifies me that I've won a $1000 gift card and crap like that. Anyone know of an app that verifies what is giving me these notifications?
Sounds to me like you have an app that uses ads that will display in the notification window.
Install any free apps recently?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yup if this just started recently, check the last couple of apps you installed. Bet you one of those is throwing ads on you notification bar.
Sent from my SGH-T999
Anything porn related or fart related should not be downloaded, joking aside there will be apps that have malware just just read what you are installing before you install it if you are unsure of it. I have had android since the 2nd week of the G1's release and haven't had one malware app on my phone. Just be smart about it and you'll be alright.

Sounds like airpush or whatever it is called. Search airpush remover in the market.
download add on detector it'll tell you the rogue app

I used the air pusher app & it turned out it was the N64 emulator app I got of the play store. Now I have to download all the apps I uninstalled

That's good that you found out which app caused spam
Sent from my SGH-T999
yeah, it's called air push ads. just use any air push detector to find out which app has it. usually, lower-end emulator\ROM finders have them. i had the same problem with the app "emulator roms". this is the app:

Did you change the dpi on your phone? From your screenshot it looks like you did, but I can't tell. Doing that will most likely mess up the play store. There are two fixes for it:
1. Download and install a multi-dpi play store apk. They should be easy to find with some Google-fu.
2. Clear the app data from both the play store and the Google services framework (under manage apps), then reboot your phone. Note: clearing data on Google services framework might mess up other apps, so do this at your own risk.
Hope this helps!

Stop Google updates

I know this question has been posed before but...its a shame to be on these great custom roms such as Project x and Jv4 and have themed versions of Google apks like playstore and you tube, only to be borked by Google play services that updates to current versions! Can this be averted at all, I heard that the process can be froze via Titanium backup? Any help would be great thanks. ...

Uncheck Automatic Updates in Play Store settings... That should be all you need to do.

Yeah that might do it too, I never do that... I just back the important ones up with Ti Backup. Also try going into the App Manager, hit menu button, then "Clear App Preferences". And if it asks you when installing an app don't hit Verify and Install. It checks the Play Store when you do that.
Ok tried all the above even after a full restore unticked all do not update and sync, and uninstall updates and it just bounces right back to new versions of play store, YouTube and google voice, currently looking for correct process to freeze possibly with TB

They push them through Google Play Services now, you can't stop it, you just have to find a themed version of the latest.

Ds Emulator!

So I barely discovered this. It's called Drastic and it's a Nintendo DS emulator. $5. Runs pretty smooth on the Note 3. I can't believe I didn't know about this sooner. It's pretty awesome.

I've had this since it was beta lol
Runs flawless, more than pretty smooth lol
You can save your files to google drive
Perfect since my sd card is shot
I have been talking to the developer about implementing some new ideas too, so look for updates

yep i have been using this for a while
runs great
Yep this is easily the best ds emulator for android hands down, runs everything you throw at it smoothly and is constantly updated with bug fixes and enhanced features. This was an easy and instant purchase from me when I got that Google play store credit a month or two ago that they were giving away.

Have you tried turning off frameskips and turning on multi - threaded 3d rendering in options?

I never owned a DS and always wanted to play New Super Mario Bros. I was able to finish the entire game with this emulator. It's amazing and worth every cent. I highly recommend. Also, Mario Cart and bunch of others are really fun too. Hope they add multiplayer emulation and this will be insanely good.
