You have to be fully on stock.....and on stock recovery to the update to complete.....the root is ok but custom recovery is a no no.......

Not running a custom ROM does not mean that you are fully stock.
Do you have the XXKK6 radio installed?
Do you have the stock recovery that came with ICL53F installed?
Do you have the stock kernel that came with ICL53F installed?
Do you have all the original (and not modified) files that were included in the ICL53F /system?
Are you sure one of your root apps did not modify one of the system files?
If you answered no to any of the above questions, the OTA update will not install automatically.
Thanks for the reply
Haven't clue if any of the things mentioned
Apply to the phone will do my best to check
If that fails would it be best to unroot and go from their ?
Thanks

[Q] Trouble with updating OTA to JB

I'm currently using the stock rom from Google (4.0.4) after updating it from 4.0.1 which originally shipped with my device (manually, not OTA). Just yesterday I decided to update my phone to JB through the OTA update. It downloads perfectly fine but when it reboots into the installation, I get the error with the android mascot and red exclamation mark.

I'm pretty sure it manages to download perfectly fine since the file is still in my cache (filename is f946a4120eb1.signed-yakju-JR003C-from-IMM761.f946a412.zip) Anyone able to help me with this?

You do not have the XXLA2 radio flashed. You need to flash that before applying the update.
Thanks for that. I've also got another question. I currently can't access clockwork mod through the recovery menu, after updating it to 4.0.4 I wasn't able to access it anymore. I've tried the rom manager from the play store but it says something that I don't have permission. I think I forgot to install the super user when I initially installed the update to 4.0.4.
I agree, you have to be careful with each rom's compatibility. 4.0.4 brought with it new radios which I believe most if not all jb roms are based on. You can flash the new radios after rooting and unlocking the device. If you manually root the phone, you'll know if you successfully pushed su to your sd card.

1) every ota update disables root access.
2) every ota update places two files on your device that re-flash the stock recovery every time you boot your phone.
3) the android laying on its back with the exclamation point IS the stock recovery.
4) you need to flash cwm, flash the su package, then rename/delete this file: /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and you are all set.

Xperia System Update

Hello. I am looking to update the phone because Xperia System Update has sat as a notification for almost a month now. Model number is E6853, Android version 6.0.1 and Build number 32.2.A.0.253. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? It's been a while since I rooted the phone and honestly forgot just about everything because I followed a guide when I did it instead of using my own knowledge.
Since your fone is rooted, you'll have to 'rebuild' the Rom to include root access and possibly recovery. A search in the dev forums should give you some pointers. Unfortunately, I'm still being lazy and my Z5P is still not rooted...

FIRST put supersu (flashable zip) (SR2 of 2.78) in your SD CARD
DOWNLOAD your build (ftf) file as per country (or region) from
https://xpericheck.com/device/E6853
ORRRR ( Flashtoot.net)
you can use FLASHTOOL's XPERIFIRM (see fotos) / browse to your device and select build to download you .305 and flashtool will compile original ftf file and make it ready for your to flash! / switch off device, connect it in flashmode and perform clean flashing of .305 (as attached)
once flashed, now u need to flash kernel
download E6853.IMG from https://mega.nz/#F!KwZhjLIK!uNbDzR6lCXMaaW7jKFS1WQ!WpZAkLZC ( thanks to @KbaB.BroS)
connect device in FASTBOOT mode and select kernel to FLASH and flash E6853.img
boot , on sony logo, press volume up key, it will take u to recovery, install from zip and flash the superSU zip from sdcard.

Unroot
So I decided I didn't really need the phone rooted any longer and I hit the unroot option in SuperSU. Now how do I got about updating? The update fails on install every time and gives an error about the root info of the phone.

Hey Yasu,
Is there any way to get rid of that nag from the Xperia Software Update service?
Also, if we update the software do we lose root and all other customizations we've installed?
Thanks,
MW
