You need to be on stock recovery as well to take the OTA. Check the bottom of post 2 of this

You mist be new. Never take otas if you need to update after soff and root do so via flashing the rooted ROM of the newest update.

yes i am new and trying to learn...thanks for advice
So, am I correct in understanding that my phone will not take the OTA with twrp installed? As in nothing to worry about?
Is there any command I can run in terminal to make it stop asking if I want to install the OTA?

Just follow the 2nd post here, then reflash TWRP. The OTA doesn't break root.
Does Voodoo OTA Root keeper work on the HTC One?
Please delete if off topic!

Yes, I just used Voodoo today to restore root after taking the .15 OTA. Will not work after 4.3, though (according to Google Play).

I can confirm this works fine as well. I had S-OFF through rumrunner and had flashed TWRP. To take the OTA, I re-flashed the stock recovery (.10) from the link given in this thread, then took the OTA. After the OTA installed with no problems, I re-installed a recovery (I changed to CWM, just for fun). I tested it by booting into recovery, and when I rebooted from CWM, it asked me if I wanted to re-install root (su). The phone now has the OTA (.15), still has SOFF and root was easily recovered.
I flashed the .10 stock recovery and I'm getting an error when I try the ota, any ideas why? I followed these instructions and I end up with a red triangle with exclamation point the reboot and phone works fine. Thanks for any help.
Edit:I got the congratulations message but when I checked it says failed, error 410. I've downloaded it a couple of times.

Hi.
Basically I want to install/update OTA without loosing my stuff.
I understand to do this I must relock root. I tried Guru_Bootloader_Reset_1.0 but when I use TWRP the touch screen stops working and I cant check the "agreement" box. I can still maneuver with the hardware buttons but I cant check the box to complete the installer.
I also tried REVONE, that doesn't work either.
How can I update without loosing my stuff ?
Thank you.

Just flash stock recovery and lock the bootloader if you are S-On.
If you are Soff, just flash stock recovery. Leave bootloader unlocked
As far as I know you can install the OTA update without any problems even if you are rooted and your bootloader is unlocked. All you need to do is flash the stock recovery from bootloader instead of custom recovery and allow the system update to install. The recovery can be downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376. Note that you will loose your root when you apply the OTA update and you can re-root your device without any problem.
Will I lose any data ?

This is just like doing an OTA update. You shouldn't loose any data but taking a backup is always a good thing to do.

Ok, So far I managed to remove the flags, remove root and uninstall su.

I tried the steps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
I failed at flashing

1.12.206.17 - TWRP Thanks to Sensor1

and stock recoverys.
Do i have to flash and then use a recovery ? How do I proceed further ?
I have the stock android, I just want to be able to update OTA automatically like nothing happened and remove TWRP.
Thank you so much for your time.
my zenphone wont update i uninstall xposed, unroot and never delete any blotware just freeze the app and when i going to update got the android error i got unlocked bootloader and twrp then i flash the stock recovery and still not able to install the update then i tried sideload with stock recovery but got this problem
Yea, I think a lot of us who rooted, can't get back to a regular, "never been rooted" device. None of the OTA seems to work.
If you can download the update, you can try to use the SD Update feature done here.

I can use twrp to flash the original rom or i need to do the step that was un that link
It tells you the problem. Your fingerprint is from .18, and it's expecting to find .20.
Easiest way is to flash the .18 pre-rooted image.
Reboot, DO NOT update SuperSU binary.
Take OTAs as they come up. If it doesn't show up, download and install through sideload in stock recovery.
They'll work and you won't get that fingerprint issue.
Hello. I am looking to update the phone because Xperia System Update has sat as a notification for almost a month now. Model number is E6853, Android version 6.0.1 and Build number 32.2.A.0.253. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? It's been a while since I rooted the phone and honestly forgot just about everything because I followed a guide when I did it instead of using my own knowledge.
Since your fone is rooted, you'll have to 'rebuild' the Rom to include root access and possibly recovery. A search in the dev forums should give you some pointers. Unfortunately, I'm still being lazy and my Z5P is still not rooted...

Unroot
So I decided I didn't really need the phone rooted any longer and I hit the unroot option in SuperSU. Now how do I got about updating? The update fails on install every time and gives an error about the root info of the phone.

Hey Yasu,
Is there any way to get rid of that nag from the Xperia Software Update service?
Also, if we update the software do we lose root and all other customizations we've installed?
Thanks,
MW

using Root Uninstaller (pro) freeze the software update service
So op 5t released a new update, whenever i open the update screen it says root detected, i would lose my root privileges if I update the phone.
I wanted to know whether i would only lose my root, or entire thing of bootloader getting locked etc?
After updating will I be able to just boot into recovery and flash root file? Or whole process I would have to do again
Thanks
Updates reinstall the stock recovery. You have to flash twrp then root.

When you install an OTA it will NOT relock your bootloader, it will reinstall the stock recovery since that is included in the OTA zip and is forced installed to be sure the update installs correctly.
You will lose the root temporarily until you flash a custom recovery again and your root of choice.

Wait, really? https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tips.md#ota-installation-tips doesn't say anything about having to flash twrp again...
When an OTA is available, please go to Magisk Manager → Uninstall → Restore Images. Do not reboot immediately or you will have Magisk uninstalled. This will restore your boot (or dtbo if available) back to 100% untouched stock images in order to pass verifications. This step is required before doing any of the following steps written below!

Or does "100% stock images" mean the stock bootloader = flash twrp again?
Just to clearify, updating my phone by an OTA does not lock the bootloader but I'd have to flash twrp and magisk again..?

yee, but after you have used the OTA you will need to flash twrp again since the OTA flashes the stock recovery, or modify your boot image but that is a pain in the ass. :silly:

Means if I'd like to unroot my phone by doing nothing, this is probably the easiest way?
