Hello, my T-mobile SGS3 is (factory) unlocked and I use it with another entirely different carrier.
Is it safe to flash the new UGLV1 radio??
Thanks
Very doubtful!
There are a number of people that had problems when flashing radios on other carriers. Particularly with the T999V.
What carrier are you with? What is your phone model? And what is its current baseband?

I think it is still a SGH-T999. The baseband is T999UVLEM
You msy be able to use the other radios then. Depends on your carrier. UVLEM works so others should as well.
If not you can always flash back to original.

Hi,
Are u talking about fm radio? Does galaxy s3 support it?
It would be really cool to have an fm radio which would not require an internet...

I live in Brazil and my carrier is Vivo. I bought the phone from Amazon while I was in the US and it came unlocked.
I am very afraid to flash the new radio... Isn't my UVLEM modified to be unlocked? If not, what is modified, then? What is different in my phone from other SGH-T999s that makes it unlocked?

Flashing a radio will not re-lock your device. Stick to radios that have T999 in their name - the others won't work and could potentially brick your device.
Thanks for the help, flashed with no problems.
Check out the modem flasher tool on the dev section. Makes it very easy to test and find the best radio for your phone and area.

What would happen? Can any developers comment on this? I have a tmobile phone and I was wondering if this could be an alternative to unlocking the phone for use on at&T. thanks.
Doing that will not unlock your phone. You need the unlock code...you maaaaay cause a brick.

Probably will, you get an unlock code.
I believe you could brick it, I've never had a phone re-lock with diffrent firmware. The best case is you will have no reception due to different carrier frequency.

I'm wounded what would happen if I flash a sprint Rom on an AT&T phone.I've flashed this inparticular Rom on my phone and the only problem I've had was a persistent notification that says preparing network, but had data and service. My gf has an unlocked AT&T s3 running on straight talk I wanna flash above mentioned Rom on her phone but I'm scared of bricking hers a Lil more that bricking mine

Don't flash ROMs on other people's phones if they can't troubleshoot and issues themselves. Just a good rule of thumb.
And no it won't brick her phone. Only if you flash the modem/radio for Sprint will it do damage. Depends what ROM you bare flashing to know what the issues will be.

T-Mobile 4.1.2 is a lot more compatible than Sprint's.
Why ask a question if you already have you mind made up ?

My mind wasn't made up till after I got the first three responses. And I appreciate every ones input.
I Have the C6506 and it is a Canadian phone that was on Bell. It was unlocked from there and now I want to use it here in the U.S. with Straight Talk (At&t) but keep running into mixed advice on different threads about what can and cannot be done with a Carrier Unlocked phone as opposed to a Factory Unlocked phone in this model. I posted another question earlier about using tether (hotspot, WiFi, USB) as an example. If I flashed the "Unbranded" firmware will it be better or would the "Generic" be just as good....pr would it be better to sell it and get a factory unlocked one....I sure can use a lot of help with this....Thanks
I would reset and reflash the phone so you can use it with any provider

Should I reflash with the Unbranded or regular Generic...also, which version is best ( as in the latest upgrade or earlier )?
I use generic and works fine

There doesn't seem to be many options as far as Custom Roms for this device....is development slow for this device for a reason? Is there a Custom Rom that is real good or are the Stock Roms better for now?
Howdy,
Quick question... on using the T-Mobile phone on other carriers. I researched around and it "appears" that the phones are all the same internally.. I believe this phone will work on ATT without issue, how about Verizon? Just use a applicable kernel, and modem??
The reason I ask is that my work has offered to cover cell phone but they only have Verizon and ATT
Any reason to pick one over the other?? I was thinking Verizon has they have better coverage where I need it but any other concerns?
Alternately I could just get a s5 I guess... any issues with the s5 and rooting/customizing besides the Knox thing?
thanks in advance!
I would go with tmobile just unlock your tmobile device.

My m919 works perfectly on At&t. The older boot loader (MDL) is the one I have. Not sure of the newer ones can still be switched. I always thought Verizon's radios and freqs were not compatible.

I might lean toward ATT... but my understanding is that all the s4 phones have the same hardware, the modem software determines what "bands" they use...
I see on the Verizon forums a few users have used their Verizon phone on Tmob.. so I would think the reverse would hold true...
ill research more (and maybe get some more feedback)..... don't have to decide today
I have the old baseband (no knox).
I think you can only use tmobile phones with other gsm carriers as long as its unlocked. I'm not to sure about gsm and CDMA. They are way to different.

I don't know for sure, but I think our mount points are different. Why would you want to flash a ul firmware? The wlv firmware is SIM unlocked and you can use any SIM in it.

As I said, it may cause your phone to be a brick. You can use a Verizon one on any network, just input your carrier APN with your carrier's SIM. You can install any GPE or aosp Rom and it will not have Verizon apps on it iirc.

I honestly don't think so. A: the radios are different. The Verizon one doesn't support any 4G band except 700mhz 13 and it only supports certain hspa and edge frequencies. So it isn't the same hardware wise.
@santod040 might be able to verify my assumption that flashing an international firmware can possibly brick your device.

The firmware from international model will not work, as to it bricking...........no idea on that note(i don't see any reason to find out either, since it won't work for sure). But I know that only VZW firmware will work on the m7vzw. As Uzephi said - the hardware is different.
No it will not work and you will most likely brick by flashing international firmware onto a Verizon one. The radio hardware is different thus making the firmware totally different. Do not do it.

google play also did not go?,develomper edition?
Santod takes the rom from those devices and ports it to this device. Firmware is a totally different beast altogether.
