Sprint alternative replacement phone list - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I recall reading somewhere on here that sprint repair centers have a list of phones comparable to one that act as suitable replacements.
I.e. the photon is on that list for the epic 4g touch.
Does anybody know the name of that list?

I would like to know how to get this as well, my E4GT just overheated last night and I think it might have fried the battery (I hope that's all that's wrong with it) and I know the Samsung Exynos processors run very hot and I do not want this to happen again, I love the E4GT but to save myself the worry of this happening again I would gladly take the Photon as a replacement.

Found replacement phone

I recently found my Evo that I had lost several months ago and had replaced with Insurance from Sprint. It's been deactivated by Sprint and I want it reactivated by Sprint so I can give to my sister. Will they let me do that? Or will they only allow me to have one activated at a time for some stupid corporate-gain reason?
when you report a phone stolen or lost sprint blacklist the ESN preventing anyone from activating it again. This is in place to prevent insurance fraud and dissuade anyone from stealing your phone (more so the former).
I doubt sprint will activate your lost phone on a different account.
Won't hurt to call them and tell them you "found your lost phone" and see where it goes from there.
If you speak to a supervisor and just be totally honest and sincere about what happened, they have the discretion to remove the block...

I thought I read somewhere that Sprint only gives a bad esn if the phone was stolen, not lost.
However, I read it somewhere on xda, and you all know how rumours fly around here. It could also be something that was once true but has since changed.
Honestly, it seems like bad info to me, but it might be something worth looking in to.
If it's in good working order but does have a bad esn, you could sell it and at least get your deductible back.

So what was the outcome? I'm curious as to what sprint did for you.
You should claim lost on your current phone so your brother can have it 2 months later when you do find it.
Once insurance is filed your claimed phone becomes the property of the insuring company. It no longer belongs to you.

You're an ass,you can't just jump to the conclusion that he's lying about losing it and finding. Once again You're an ass.
i want to say it will not work but from experience i would say you should give it a try.
my buddy owns a sprint store with his brother and when evo first came out one of them got. so the other one wanted a evo as well because it was his birthday so his older brother filed a missing claim and turned it off and used a replacement phone for about a month or 2 and when the new phone came in he gave his brother one evo and he kept the other.
he is still using the phone to this day.
its a hassle but it did work (for them atleast)

Besides it being a hassle, now we all know that your buddy is totally cool with lying and fraud. Maybe if he had better ethics he'd do better business and be able to afford to just buy the things he wants legally. Just a thought.

i could of told you that

Thought this was funny.

Anybody thinks that the delay isn't about pushing the RAZR is crazy.
Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Mya'
Mya: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Scott: Do you have any information regarding the release of the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I do not have any information about that phone but I can help you find another great phone today.
Scott: When I switch to Verizon, I just want the galaxy nexus.
Mya: What do you like about that phone?
Scott: Android 4.0, NFC, direct support from google for software updates, 720p Super AMOLED display, stock android software, LTE.
Mya: Have you considered the Droid RAZR?
Scott: I have not, but I do know what the RAZR is. Verizon pushes the Droid line of phones onto its customers.
Scott: It's Verizon's specific line of Android powered phones so that's what they want to sell the most of.
Mya: Well the RAZR is a great phone to consider. Right now the iPhone is a huge seller but it seems like the RAZR would be a better fit for you.
Scott: Why would the RAZR be a better fit?
Mya: Well it is a better phone over the iPhone. It is Android, it is a 4G LTE phone.
Scott: Have you seen or heard about the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I have not, we do not have any information about that phone.
Scott: I mean do you even know what it is?
Mya: I do know what phone you are referring to I just do not have any information about it but the RAZR does have a 4.3" Super AMOLED advanced display.
Scott: So you have heard about the galaxy nexus. Have you read any of the specs about the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I have not.
Scott: The Galaxy Nexus is superior in every way compared to the RAZR. Verizon must want to just sell the RAZR and not the Nexus.
Mya: Is there anything I can help you with regarding a phone that we currently have or a order?
Scott: If you don't have any information regarding the galaxy nexus, then no.
lol mya....

technically its not that big. I can name at least 5 things that have had longer delays:
1. Droid Bionic
2. Duke Nukem Forever.
3. Arrested Development Movie
4. Chinese Democracy by Guns and Roses.
5. Ghostbusters 3
On topic though, It sucks that they are at least partially delaying this due to the razr.

Nope.
The delay has been anywhere from a week to a month depending on what rumors you bought into. A drop in the bucket.

Verizon never announced a release date...It hasn't even been a full month since the GSM release.
A month is not a large delay in the grand scheme of things.
I find it funny that:
1) You told her you wanted an android phone, so somehow when she tries to tell you about another android phone, the RAZR, it means Verizon is delaying the Nexus for the RAZR?
2) Everyone on this forum knows not to take anything a CSR says without a few thousand grains of salt. And now all of the sudden everything this "online chat rep, Mya", says is true?
Don't get me wrong, I have trolled a handful of CSRs in my time, but using what a CSR says to prove your own theories is just plain stupid.

Must be coincidence too that when I walk into 2 different verizon stores and say I'm looking to switch to verizon, they immediately mention the razr.

They do that because many of these sales people are on commission and would rather sell you phone that is currently available vs. a phone that might be available next week. Since the Nexus won't be out until a later date you could possibly get it from a different store and that is one less customer for them.
Now I agree that corporate might have partially delayed the phone due to the Razr and Rezound, but I think that that happened before the original projected date of Thanksgiving week. I think the most recent delay (last week) had more to do with the either the 4g outage, or the Google Wallet issue.

Well obviously, but that doesn't mean they're delaying the nexus for it you are just coming to your own conclusions with no evidence.

No offense but OP you just sound obnoxious from this conversation. Giving hard time and jeering at a random customer service rep just because your phone is delayed? You could have asked about GN in a more decent way I'm sure.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
While offering a current available phone makes sense... I'm hard pressed to know they don't have some extra incentives for the Razr. Even the Razr vs Rezound. How many times have they pushed the Rezound? Never. They never even mention it unless you specifically ask for it. "Oh yea that phone... its ok"
if u really want the GN now, go with a GSM carrier order it unlocked online...no need to harass/bother CS Reps or Sales Reps..I used to work in the wireless retail industry so I know how it is for those people..Granted I was alot more informed then your average rep because I keep up with tech all the time..many times they do have information about the product before launch but are told explicitly not to say anything to the customer about it..Bottomline if u want the GNex on Verizon just wait patiently.
Of course a VZW Rep is going to push the Droid line. It's their flagship series. Sure, the Rezound is a powerhouse compared to the RAZR, but they know the Droid brand sells like hotcakes, hence the major push. Also, as people have mentioned before, they'd rather try to sell you a phone that's available than a phone that isn't. No need to go harassing reps because of that.

Last week, I went to a local Verizon store during my lunch break to ask about the status of the GNex. The reps pleaded ignorance and, upon noticing my Sensation 4G, tried to steer me towards a Rezound.
Big red's corporate offices are plastered with Droid RAZR marketing. It's even in the bathrooms! Meanwhile, not one mention of the GN anywhere. The GN must be a small-fry deal for them. There's no marketing campaign. Meanwhile the RAZR continues to get pumped up for holiday sales.
But, I don't think they delayed the GN for the RAZR though. I don't think the GN was ever a threat. If I had to guess, they were getting the baseband right, dealing with battery life issues and a network outage. Quick aside, you don't launch a device during an outage unless you really want to make a horrible first impression and blow up your call centers. No matter what, clearly something didn't go as planned. Retailers are currently sitting on inventory they are embargoed from selling which is something they really don't like to do.

asurion (sprint's insurance company) is replacing the evo with the evo 3d

just in case you guys want an evo 3d for $100

They didn't for me a week ago...maybe I should've waited...
We're comin from a pure power source.
So when it asks for your info like cell # name and everything you put in your real Info and then it tells you what your going to get then just close it out if its a og?
This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm not exactly sharp in this area: Do you need to be paying for some kind of insurance to replace your Evo 4G with a 3D model?
total equipment protection, it's $8 a month
me and my friend had ours replaced a couple weeks back...
she got the 3d, trying to replace a black evo 4g
i got the white evo 4g, trying to replace a white evo 4g
50/50 Crap Shoot...
As always with Asurion it will be, shall be, and always be a Crap Shoot...
It is what they Recycle Bin has in stock as what they consider "an adequate replacement" at the time of submission, unfortunately...
Cheers!

TEP, $8 per month, must be added within the first month of purchasing the phone. And no, it's not to "replace" you evo with a 3d, it's to fix it if it gets broken. Insurance is NOT an upgrade program.

Correct. Just because one person got a 3d the other day, does not mean everyone else will. They get new (refurbs) in every day and ship them right back out to people.
Thanks. I just filed a claim. My RSA keys are gone, and the Sprint Store in my area can't run diagnostics because there is no WiMax network in my area. I go out of town enough that I want 4g, but I'm not going to make a trip to Chicago just to get my phone looked at.

[Q] Exchanges

Is sprint doing exchanges for the EVO since it's on the EOL list?
Just because or do you have an issue with your device?
Sprint does not just give exchanges once the device becomes EOL.
Now if you have an issue with the device and have insurance they will replace with either the same device (if in stock) or one of similar likeness.
Sprint and Asurion do have different stocks, so if sprint has to replace the phone you may get something different than if asurion replaces it.
Sent from my RamenizedEvo on Cricket.
Yeah,
if you have total protection and there is an issue you will get their equvil, but if you just want to trade in no they wont. If you want to find out call them, i know when my evo had issues they talked about trading me to a new phone, but they offered the evo shift and im sorry im not giving my evo up for that....
Dont be shy hit that thanks button
As of the 19th EVOs, Shifts, 3Ds and Epics are a like-for-like exchange only. From what I can recall.

Sprint service help

So I have 2 evo's and I've been with Sprint for 10 years. In the past couple months the haptic feedback motors on both have died. My wife and I are very busy and have to move mountains to find the time to get to a Sprint store. For this reason I really DO NOT want refurbs. In my experience one refurb leads to another.
Do u guys think that sprint will work with me on this? I love the evo and wish it wasn't eol and would be perfectly happy with a NEW evo....although I know this won't happen.
Any advice? Thanks.
I've heard that some people are getting EVO 3D's instead of the 4G. It's hit or miss, but that would be cool to get a 3D as a replacement!

If you don't have insurance, then you'll either have to live with no haptic feedback, or live with a refurb, unfortunately. With the EVO being EOL, there aren't anymore "new" ones.

I don't think they can fix that. You'll probably end up with a refurb, if any are available. If you had TEP you might be able to get a 3D as a comparable replacement, but otherwise you're stuck waiting for refurb OG's to get in.

If you have a nandroid backup with the wimax partition then you can just restore. CWM backs it up automatically iirc, in Amon Ra you have to select it. Sift through your nandroids for a wimax.img and you should be good to go without a replacement.

Yes you will get a refurb. I really don't understand why people demand a new phone when the one they have now is clearly used. If you get in a car accident, you dont get a brand new car, you get a similar model worth a comparable cost.

Car insurance also doesn't give you a replacement that may or may not have been in an accident before you get a car that has never been in an accident, phone insurance you get whatever they give you no matter how much worse off it is than the phone you are replacing, like my evo for example looks brand new, I wouldn't want a refurbished that is all scratched up with light bleeding and a creaky power button I want a phone in like new condition like mine, that's y I don't pay for assurion anything they cover I can replace/repair for less than the 100$ deductible and keep a phone that I know where it's been and what's happened to it

My experience is that most refurbs have brand new casing slapped on them now for that reason alone. Too many people would call in upset their replacement phone had scratches. I've never had any problems with the refurbished phones.
However, you're going to get a refurb, evo4g isn't manufactured anymore if you want a phone it's going to have to be refurb. Though the sprint store can replace anything on your phone if they have the parts, I know one time a sprint repair store swapped all the guts from one evo 4g to another just so they wouldn't get the refurb phone.
I don't understand what's wrong with a refurb phone as long as it's a brand new case and screen.
You never know why it was refurbished every refurbished I've ever gotten seemed to be defective starting just after the complaint period was over that's why I cancelled my insurance I can repair my phone myself cheaper than paying the deductible I can get the LCD digitizer with front bezel and an entire housing for 85 bucks if I need it anything worse than that and ill just upgrade to a new phone its about time anyways evos been around since release so upgrades coming up soon

The refurbs do have a new casing on them. Shouldn't have scratches. If you read the copy given when going to a repair center, it states that the technician may use "harvested" parts. Also, the refurbs coming back are also dependant on the initial diagnoses, tech sends it in for a bad touchscreen but no mention of USB issues, next person is SOL. They do get checked prior to shipping out to your service center.
The majority of techs that Sprint has, do not have techy experience. Also, they aren't allowed to solder anything, any longer. I soldered a power button back on for a customer, but couldn't claim labor, cause I wasn't supposed to have done it. I didn't want to order it either, because we're given a budget/exchange limitation on a monthly basis.
I have a refurbished 3D(through Asurion in August, my brand new 3D is the Gulf), which I have flashed the hell out of, it's still going. Maybe I got lucky.
Sent in L*W*H
they said they checked the antenna and files and every thing was "ok" on it but they just couldn't understand why the 4g wouldn't stay connected. thought to my self maybe cause the keys are gone. but then again they said they would replace it for another one for no cost, so just stayed quiet. I had done backup's using CWM and Amon ra before loosing my keys but when i went back to re-storing a back-up i had done it still didn't re store my keys. some how they were't there aswell.
To be more straightforward here......can I refuse a refurb? I have nothing but bad experiences with them in the past. I believe, if I recall, that years ago I refused a refurb politely and was given a new phone. I suspect if this phone wasn't out of production they'd give me a new one (or 2 in my case).

Not really. As stated, with Best Buy and with Sprint, their policy is usually to give you 3 refurbs before they allow you to move to a new device.
