So i was having alot of issues with my 2.2 EVO -- not receiving text's without google voice, then it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on so i got a new EVO through the Insurance, which is 2.3.3 and obviously no root... Well i tried to take the battery out of it and put it in my EVO that wouldn't charge or turn on and it works now, and obviously was just an issue of a dead battery ... The phone that was sent to my through the insurance worked for 2 days and broke, so i took it to the Sprint store, and they Replaced it with ANOTHER 2.3.3 EVO -- So my question is.. Can i just send back this 2.3.3 EVO that was given to me by Sprint and Keep my 2.2 EVO which i thought was broken and reuqested the insurance phone? or will they charge me $500 if i dont send back the Original Phone that i had when i called for the insurance phone? Or as long as i send back ANY EVO will i be okay?

They're definitely going to require you to send back the phone you filed the report about.
Your best bet is to call them and explain the situation and see what they can do for you.
Sprint has no dealings with this so you have to call Asurion.
As to what they'll say? I have no clue.
Asurion just wants a phone they can refurb and resell. I doubt they'll care what phone you send them. Definitely give them a call first though; this isn't a situation where you want to try to beg forgiveness rather than get permission. That could be an expensive mistake, and could even be considered insurance fraud.

Yep, thats your best bet. We cant say what asurion will want you to do, only they can tell you that.
But technically, how would they even know? Because i dont even have the original phone that the insurance company sent me, so it's not like i'm sending back the same phone they sent to me? Technically they would be getting a brand new phone that Sprint just gave to me in place of the insurance phone that broke and it works, rather than my year old phone that has issues

Every phone has unique identifiers; the phone with your ESN is the one that is insured, so if you send one with a different ESN then technically you're not sending back the one you are paying to insure.
We're not saying they won't work with you, but you're running a risk in not working it out with them ahead of time.
It just needs to be understood that if you send back a different phone and don't call them first they could technically prosecute you for insurance fraud.

Why did you file a claim for a known software bug in 2.2? All you had to do was take the phone to a service center and they would have swapped you out with a charged battery and suggested that you upgrade to 2.3. Even if the service center couldn't swap you out for a charged battery they would atleast been able to order a new phone without the deductible.
Now for even more bad news. Asurion is expecting to receive the original "defective" phone back and may check for the correct ESN. You can risk sending back a different phone but if they do check the ESN you're hosed. You can try to send back the Sprint AE phone you received but you want to call Asurion first.
In the future please refer to the Sprint S & R thread in my sig to avoid any confusion and possible expenditures on your part.
Pretty much borked myself out of 4G, I just unrooted my phone back to stock, ready to take it to Sprint tomorrow. Just a few questions before I do so.
Q1: When i first got my evo they gave me one with a broken volume down button, i went back and they replaced it, telling me i can't get a refund now. =_= Does this mean i cant return my current Evo? (2nd one)
Q2: How do i come at them about replacing my phone? Do i say i updated to the most recent OTA and now my 4G doesnt work? or Do i report it stolen or lost? I dont know what to do. I just dont want to end up paying for a brand new one or refurbished one.
Q3: Should i just switch over to Boost mobile and cancel my account with sprint since i dont have 4G anymore? This would be more positive thinking if i cant get a free Evo replacement again.
Q4: Just reassuring myself, Theres no way to create a wimax image using the RSA key info from my RSA_oem.key file? I read some where that you can use the hex editor to change info on a wimax template to work with your phone.
It was dumb of me, i remember it like it was yesterday. I had no 4G connection, but i had my Keys. (not backed up of course) So i figured it was my Wimax/Radio, next i formatted Wimax and lost my keys. (Eternally screwed) Dont EVER do this if you're reading this. First thing I'm gunna do when i get my new Evo is back up my RSA keys.
Do you have insursance on it? If not then your SOL. I had same issue with my 4g and I told them I had been updating my profile and prl (after flashing stock rom) and it dropped and shut off, then after reboot I couldn't get 4g. They took it for testing and I came back and got a new phone. I had insurance
Yes i have insurance thank god. Did they make you pay a deductible? sorry for the late post i had forgotten of this post. I talked to a customer at my local sprint store and he told me i should just pay the 100$ deductible and write it off as damage cuz they'll give me an Evo 3D they're not handing out evos anymore, but i still want to try :3

Sprint store reps won't know if you would be getting a 3D for insurance replacement, you would have to contact Asurion about that. Some people have been getting the 3D, but some have still been getting the OG Evo. All depends on what they have in stock when you make your claim.

quick idea, instead of paying $100 for a replacement thru your insurance for a refurbished phone, you could go onto craigslist and buy a new evo slightly used for the same price thats probably in better condition. Just throwing the idea out there.

You only have to pay a deductible if theatre physical damage. If your wimax is damage just flash a stock rom and when you bring it in say you were updating the prl or profile and it dropped and when you turned it on 4g wasn't working. They will take it for testing then give you a new one.
Positively works

just in case you guys want an evo 3d for $100
(;
They didn't for me a week ago...maybe I should've waited...
We're comin from a pure power source.
So when it asks for your info like cell # name and everything you put in your real Info and then it tells you what your going to get then just close it out if its a og?
This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm not exactly sharp in this area: Do you need to be paying for some kind of insurance to replace your Evo 4G with a 3D model?
total equipment protection, it's $8 a month
me and my friend had ours replaced a couple weeks back...
she got the 3d, trying to replace a black evo 4g
i got the white evo 4g, trying to replace a white evo 4g
50/50 Crap Shoot...
As always with Asurion it will be, shall be, and always be a Crap Shoot...
It is what they Recycle Bin has in stock as what they consider "an adequate replacement" at the time of submission, unfortunately...
Cheers!

TEP, $8 per month, must be added within the first month of purchasing the phone. And no, it's not to "replace" you evo with a 3d, it's to fix it if it gets broken. Insurance is NOT an upgrade program.

Correct. Just because one person got a 3d the other day, does not mean everyone else will. They get new (refurbs) in every day and ship them right back out to people.
Thanks. I just filed a claim. My RSA keys are gone, and the Sprint Store in my area can't run diagnostics because there is no WiMax network in my area. I go out of town enough that I want 4g, but I'm not going to make a trip to Chicago just to get my phone looked at.
So I have 2 evo's and I've been with Sprint for 10 years. In the past couple months the haptic feedback motors on both have died. My wife and I are very busy and have to move mountains to find the time to get to a Sprint store. For this reason I really DO NOT want refurbs. In my experience one refurb leads to another.
Do u guys think that sprint will work with me on this? I love the evo and wish it wasn't eol and would be perfectly happy with a NEW evo....although I know this won't happen.
Any advice? Thanks.
I've heard that some people are getting EVO 3D's instead of the 4G. It's hit or miss, but that would be cool to get a 3D as a replacement!

If you don't have insurance, then you'll either have to live with no haptic feedback, or live with a refurb, unfortunately. With the EVO being EOL, there aren't anymore "new" ones.

I don't think they can fix that. You'll probably end up with a refurb, if any are available. If you had TEP you might be able to get a 3D as a comparable replacement, but otherwise you're stuck waiting for refurb OG's to get in.

If you have a nandroid backup with the wimax partition then you can just restore. CWM backs it up automatically iirc, in Amon Ra you have to select it. Sift through your nandroids for a wimax.img and you should be good to go without a replacement.

Yes you will get a refurb. I really don't understand why people demand a new phone when the one they have now is clearly used. If you get in a car accident, you dont get a brand new car, you get a similar model worth a comparable cost.

Car insurance also doesn't give you a replacement that may or may not have been in an accident before you get a car that has never been in an accident, phone insurance you get whatever they give you no matter how much worse off it is than the phone you are replacing, like my evo for example looks brand new, I wouldn't want a refurbished that is all scratched up with light bleeding and a creaky power button I want a phone in like new condition like mine, that's y I don't pay for assurion anything they cover I can replace/repair for less than the 100$ deductible and keep a phone that I know where it's been and what's happened to it

My experience is that most refurbs have brand new casing slapped on them now for that reason alone. Too many people would call in upset their replacement phone had scratches. I've never had any problems with the refurbished phones.
However, you're going to get a refurb, evo4g isn't manufactured anymore if you want a phone it's going to have to be refurb. Though the sprint store can replace anything on your phone if they have the parts, I know one time a sprint repair store swapped all the guts from one evo 4g to another just so they wouldn't get the refurb phone.
I don't understand what's wrong with a refurb phone as long as it's a brand new case and screen.
You never know why it was refurbished every refurbished I've ever gotten seemed to be defective starting just after the complaint period was over that's why I cancelled my insurance I can repair my phone myself cheaper than paying the deductible I can get the LCD digitizer with front bezel and an entire housing for 85 bucks if I need it anything worse than that and ill just upgrade to a new phone its about time anyways evos been around since release so upgrades coming up soon

The refurbs do have a new casing on them. Shouldn't have scratches. If you read the copy given when going to a repair center, it states that the technician may use "harvested" parts. Also, the refurbs coming back are also dependant on the initial diagnoses, tech sends it in for a bad touchscreen but no mention of USB issues, next person is SOL. They do get checked prior to shipping out to your service center.
The majority of techs that Sprint has, do not have techy experience. Also, they aren't allowed to solder anything, any longer. I soldered a power button back on for a customer, but couldn't claim labor, cause I wasn't supposed to have done it. I didn't want to order it either, because we're given a budget/exchange limitation on a monthly basis.
I have a refurbished 3D(through Asurion in August, my brand new 3D is the Gulf), which I have flashed the hell out of, it's still going. Maybe I got lucky.

they said they checked the antenna and files and every thing was "ok" on it but they just couldn't understand why the 4g wouldn't stay connected. thought to my self maybe cause the keys are gone. but then again they said they would replace it for another one for no cost, so just stayed quiet. I had done backup's using CWM and Amon ra before loosing my keys but when i went back to re-storing a back-up i had done it still didn't re store my keys. some how they were't there aswell.
To be more straightforward here......can I refuse a refurb? I have nothing but bad experiences with them in the past. I believe, if I recall, that years ago I refused a refurb politely and was given a new phone. I suspect if this phone wasn't out of production they'd give me a new one (or 2 in my case).

Not really. As stated, with Best Buy and with Sprint, their policy is usually to give you 3 refurbs before they allow you to move to a new device.
Hey guys was wondering if anyone has returned a rooted EVO with custom Rom to sprint for insurance claim, my wife's EVO charging port broke and phone is no longer charging, we have insurance through sprint but the phone is rooted and can't return to stock because can't charge it to power it up, will the sprint tech find a way to power it up and not want to file a claim because its rooted and running a custom Rom or should I be ok taking it in like that
It shouldn't be a problem. Your issue is with your charging port being broken, which is a hardware problem. If the problem was related to rooting your phone, things might be different. My understanding is that Sprint generally doesn't care whether or not the phone is rooted, as long as the problem isn't directly related to your phone being rooted.

If you have TEP (Total Equipment Protection) they should fix it. I think you still have to pay like $35, but it beats the $100 deductible through Asurion, and you get your phone back, not a replacement. Take it to an authorized Sprint repair center and see about getting it fixed.

Asurion will send you a replacement EVO, unless they tell you otherwise.

With how old the EVOs are now, the charging port may just be filled with pocket lint/dust, not allowing the charger to make a complete connection with the port. Trying cleaning it out with a toothpick and see if that helps at all since they aren't helping you at all at the moment.
Interesting, if this it's the case, my next phone is going to be purchased at best buy, they ask no questions.

My power button quite working 7-8 months ago so I took it to a local service center. It was obviously rooted and the tech there flashed it back to stock rom (left root intact) and ordered me a replacement. He never said a word about it and the cust. service woman that I talked to asked me what ROM it was so they obviously knew. I'm not sure if she added any notes to my account or not but they were very nice and helpful.
Even with TEP, Sprint won't fix a broken charger port because it's defined as physical damage so you have to send it to asurion. That's what they told me when mine broke and the replacement came shipped with the same issue. And Sprint changed their policy a while back, they will accept rooted phones but when they return it to you it will be stock with the latest software.
