[Q] Atrix Laptop dock work with HTC EVO?

From what I can tell, the placement of the connectors is about right (width), but I think one of the connectors is upside down if you compare the EVO USB/HDMI and the Atrix USB/HDMI, so I am not sure that it would fit.
Next step in my brainstorm would be to use extension cables to compensate for the twisted connector, and rig up a jig/adapter plate to securely hold the EVO onto the laptop dock.
Once the hardware could be connected, we have to deal with software, firmware, kernels and the like. I've seen that HDMI mirroring is mostly done, and I imagine that the Motorola webtop software will be hacked/ported or cloned at some point. Although, even just running the EVO on the main screen would be sweet enough for me (for now).
I would declare it cooler than sliced bread if I could use my EVO with the Atrix laptop dock, or had something similar for my EVO. (if I could just get HDMI in, I'd use an old laptop as a shell).
Thoughts and ideas?

i seriously doubt it will work. although the microusb and hdmi might be the same, there is a lot on the software side that has to be done in order for the evo to work. its probably proprietary code, which wouldnt be a huge deal, but there wont be enough interest due to the fact the dock is 200 dollars. so it may be possible, but i wouldnt have my hopes up

I'm pretty stingy in general, although more liberal when it comes to technology and gadgets, and I don't feel that $200 would be wasted or expensive (more than that would quickly get too expensive though) on something like that. Maybe just because I have dreamed of doing something similar ever since I got my Sony u7 50p a few years back, but I still think it would be awesome!

USB host and full HDMI out are mostly driver module issues and would be covered by GPL. As far as the UI,a launcher switch triggered by "Dock Mode" is already in place, it would just need an options pop-up to select which mode you wanted to use like the USB does when you connect to a PC. Something like And-Win home screen would work as a desktop UI to start. The only issue I see would be if there's a validation check from the lapdock or media dock.

Last I looked (a while ago) I could not find any mention of people using/turning on USB host support on an EVO. Do you know anything about that? I'm not sure what the GPL is though...

You woulld be much better off (and cheaper) to buy a 13inch monitor, connect hdmi from evo to monitor, and use the FullHDMI app, with a bluetooth keyboard of course.

The connectors aren't even CLOSE.
The motorola webtop stuff is actually a full linux environment, and when it boots up it uses a whole core of the tegra.
Keep in mind the atrix is still "running" android on the other core.
Even if this WAS possible, it would be so entirely laggy it would not be worth it at all. (And having tried the dock for the atrix, it's a complete waste of money in my honest opinion. _ANY_ netbook priced at ~$250 USD outperforms it.)
Hate to break it to you, but no, you'll never see it "ported."
As far as I can see, the best you're going to get is hdmi out (to a regular screen) and maybe once someone gets around to enabling the proper USB option host based devices. (keyboard, etc. But enjoy hacking your cables up to make a proper adaptor)

While you may be able to mirror on the laptops screen and have it charge. The only thing thats seemingly impossible is to make use of the touchpad through a hardwired connection. You're better off to trying to jerry rig a bluetooth keyboard w/ integrated track pad, a tiny HDMI enabled screen, and a battery source.

The closest thing I've found was a "needs testing" driver for the HD2 port of the Evo ROM. There doesn't seem to be much interest from the devs.

Sounds like a plan. You should pick one up asap.

I personally have the lapdock AND the OG EVO works with it (using AnthraX) although I had to twist the HDMI cable it does so on screen...
It works in Landscape as well as Portrait but the USB's do NOT work with it...
any idea on how to get it working?

I'm sorry buddy I have switched company's but I believe it is just a matter of drivers needed to be installed

Keyboards/mice

Looked around to find more info but couldn't find quite what I was looking for. First off, I wanted to confirm that any bluetooth keyboard/mouse should be compatible with the Atrix. Second, (assuming the first was correct...) I wanted to hear if people have tried other keyboards/mice with the Atrix. I'm assuming that the android related keys found on the official motorola keyboard are still available on normal keyboards, just labeled differently?

Do we really need bluetooth? What about a usb hub and wireless kb / mouse? I don't own a bluetooth kb and mouse so dropping $100 on these is almost pointless. Anyone try this method yet:
micro usb ----> usb adapter ----> usb hub -------> usb kb /usb mouse

Either way... basically just trying to find other options for the webtop. I looked around and found out that I was mistaken about the pricing on bluetooth keyboards and mice. Apparently the Motorola keyboard/mouse aren't too ridiculously priced compared to other bluetooth options. I still feel like I could justify a regular keyboard more because I could still use it for a computer or something. Can't help but feel the moto keyboard would go unused aside from the atrix.

I'm one adapter short of testing the hub idea, I'll let you know sometime this week if it works. Right now I'm just using it with the virtual trackpad/kb...

Just tried my razer Orochi blue tooft mouse when docked in the laptop dock and it paired right up and works perfect
So if this mouse works i would think any one will work.

Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse work, if that's the way you roll. The media buttons on the keyboard will even fire up the music player on the phone. Brightness buttons don't do anything though.

It looks like the Atrix's own bluetooth keyboard is quite nice quality and very compact. does anyone have it that can give us a little review of it? I wouldn't mind using it as my main keyboard for my desktop.
Does anyone have the apple BT keyboard running on a windows 7 system? does it work well?

Logitech DiNovo Edge successfully paired with Atrix
I successfully paired my Logitech DiNovo Edge keyboard with my Atrix today and hooked the phone up to my TV via HDMI. Worked perfectly. Loved having the connection mod without needing a dock. Was able to do a lot from the couch
The DiNovo Edge has a built in mouse pad and is very sturdy and high quality. One of my all time favorite keyboard/mouse combo's.

I had actually looked at the edge in the past... seems like it would be a good pairing for the Atrix. Might have to give that a try. I just need to justify the cost to myself.

If you don't mind the size it's, imho, perfect. I have a few other BT keyboards I'm going to try to pair when I get time...if I get a chance I'll report back.

That's not the right adapter at all... you need a female A -> male micro for one device, or however you want to then convert the other side. I'm waiting on that part then mine goes from that to a mini usb into my hub. might not work but we'll see.

Well non-bt doesn't work for me at least. I'm sure we just have to load a driver or something. I tried atrix -> male micro usb -> regual usb female -> male usb -> mini usb -> hub. It should be noted it was a powered usb hub. My mouse plugged into the hub didn't work, so I gave up haha.

Have you tried the apple keyboard in webtop mode I can't get it to work at all but if I connect it to the phone before that it works fine it's kind of weird

Possible to make "shell" to turn it into a netbook?

(Apologies if this has been asked before or if it's mind-bogglingly retarded.)
What we have with the SGS2 is remarkable - it's as powerful as a netbook, with video-out and USB host functionality.
It seems to me that carrying such a super-phone alongside a netbook would be a waste of money and effort, when the processor in the SGS2 is more than up to scratch.
So what would be the obstacles in making a "shell" that provided a laptop-like keyboard, mouse and screen, with an SGS2 where the processor, RAM and so on would normally be housed? (The SGS2 would be removable, of course.)
These are the ones I can think of:
USB/Bluetooth keyboard support - may have to be Bluetooth keyboard.
Touch input? (May have to be Bluetooth mouse, but mouse input is possible in Android)
Connecting a monitor and USB device through the same USB port (not necessary if keyboard/mouse are Bluetooth)
Battery life - just make the shell house a fat battery!
So let's say we could piece all that together - a keyboard, mouse, battery and screen in one shell. It could come out considerably cheaper and lighter than a netbook, with all the SGS2's media playback abilities, internet without having to tether, and no need to change apps when going from netbook to phone.
There's probably something I haven't thought of, but I couldn't resist posting.

I would love to see something like this happen. The SGS2 will be my first Android phone, coming from WinMo, so I've no idea what is available or is possible with the OS. One reason I bought this phone was because I wanted to connect a Bluetooth keyboard (and mouse?) to it and keep it mounted on a dock or stand right below my two monitors at work, serving as an internet/chat/email computer, instead of taking my phone AND laptop to work every day.
Now I may be mistaken, but MHL doesn't support simultaneous USB and HDMI out, so if you wanted to connect input devices AND have monitor out, I'd guess the keyboard and mouse would have to be Bluetooth, as you've mentioned. One thing that interests me is something the Wiki entry mentions:
"The HDTV remote will control the connected device with guaranteed mixed manufacturer interoperability."
So perhaps one day we might see some SGS2 "lapdock" like the Atrix?

You won't be able to do a full netbook, because the microUSB connector on the SGS2 can be used either as microUSB or MHL (HDMI video out + charger input); the two functions of the connector are mutually exclusive. So, if you're piping the SGS2's video out to the shell's display, you have no USB, and if you're using the USB, there's no external video.
You might be able to use some kind of remoting software to work around this & use the USB functionality of the SGS2; the shell would have something like a VNC client installed, then connect to server software on the SGS2 (over WiFi or BT networking).

Hm, are you 100% sure about them being mutually exclusive?

No idea how this can be realized. Afaik, there is a VNC client installed, but no server.
Guess it is easier to try what is mentioned above :
Use NHL to get the monitor working and BT for the keyboard. Would be good to have some profile, which enables the BT keyboard when NHL is plugged, maybe through locale or so.

I know this thread is kinda old now, but some recent tech news brought this idea back to memory for me. ICE Computer showed a docking tablet they call Trinity at Computex 2011, which apparently can be made to dock with nearly any phone or even a PC module. I didn't find too much info that wasn't regurgitated between sites, but it sounds like they won't be selling it themselves, rather they'll sell it to other companies who want one for their device.
My hope is they'll sell some kind of universal version that takes different phones and maybe just requires a different-shaped module for different phones. Here's a link to the Engadget post, but there are other pages that describe what it does and when it should be available.

Add a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, perhaps a stand, and voila!

Need a solution like this
1) MHL output to a tv/ monitor
2) Bluetooth keyboard and mouse work over HID profile
3) Remote Desktop software that allows use of external keyboard and mouse and which can output native resolution rather than just mirroring the screen.

Does anyone know of a foldable/rollable USB keyboard (presumably silicone) that would have USB 2.0 and work with Hash's 3.0 kernel/OTG?

That should work fine. My wireless USB 2.0 one works great, so I see no reason why that wouldn't work.

I bought a roll up rubber keyboard a couple years back, i hated it and gave it away a day or two after i purchased the keyboard. Luckily i paid only 6 dollars for it.

Roll-up keyboard working fine here through powered USB hub. Just as accurate as can be expected with these crappy things, but it works like it should.
Edit: Thanks for mentioning this otherwise I would've completely forgotten I had one. Awesome.
Edit: To further clarify, if it matters my USB hub is a multi-TT hub, which was difficult to find since most manufacturers don't even advertise the feature. I needed one for MIDI latency reasons. If I remember correctly it has something to do with 2.0 devices on the hub receiving sufficient power and not getting dropped to 1.1?

I'm gonna go ahead and say yes, simply because it's a full-size keyboard. It does take more effort than a standard keyboard to register presses being as flimsy as it is, but when my PC was still up and running I started to get used to it being my only full keyboard (I'm typing this from my laptop) and I got pretty quick with it. Trouble here is, aftering getting my Fire I'm pretty damn fast on an Android keyboard so my judgment is possibly skewed. I say go for it. It's really the only portable option aside from those little Bluetooth keyboards, if anyone even has those working yet. I also got my powered USB hub to register my flash drive so that's promising.

I couldn't get enough power straight through my adapter or cable, so I used a powered USB hub. I rebooted the Fire, then the thing just worked. I'm really excited. I just hope the port provides enough power on its own for one of those tiny Bluetooth dongles. If not, I'm fairly certain there was a discussion thread here about trying to ramp up the voltages so hopefully they'll figure that out and integrate it into future releases. I really would like to be completely untethered.

I got a wireless foldable silicone keyboard which is water resistant. It comes in 5 colors. Black (which you posted), white, blue, green and pink.

HP lap dock

I recently obtained the HP lapdock for a fair price. This works via USB c connection just fine. I've been looking into how to get the wifi direct connection to work with no luck BUT I know its possible.
OXI rom has been able to successfully connect to the HP lapdock. See this video:

I have no idea how to try to even get this to work but my guess is it relies on something to do with the wifi direct api somewhere in the phone. Anyone want to take a look into this or know someone that could port this?

I'm trying to build lineage for the razer, but i'm just learning and i'm a little lost building the device tree. I can't seem to find how to do it, i guess my google skills are a bit rusty

Hi I'm trying to use the hp lapdock on my mate 10 just get a blank screen when connecting do I need a special cable using the USB C cable that came with the Dock

There is a Dell Dock that works with the Razer phone, Tested it with keyboard, mouse and Monitor (HDMI output from the Dock, DP ports wont work)

Trying turning off the dock, plug in the cable, turn the dock on, when it gets to the cable or wireless screen plug in the phone. I use the item cord. Sometimes takes 15 tries =/

Still no joy just the blank display although it's connected as when I press the keyboard it does stuff on my phone tried every combination on start up. So annoying but thanks anyway

So updated to 8.1 Oreo, enabled Miracast from build prop, it will attempt to connect as the screen goes black on the Dock the phone force reboots. No idea whats causing it. Attached is the logcat, if anyone can look at it and assist I would be grateful.
If you need more info from a logcat just tell me what I missed. I refuse to give up on this and will continue researching and tinkering.
Also gonna try some Treble GSI's see if they work. Starting with AOKP

I downgraded my Razer phone to the 7.1.1 Android version and I STILL can't get this thing to work with the HP lapdock. Tried using the usb-c cable it shipped with, tried using a thunderbolt 3 cable...only the keyboard will work. The screen and track-pad are a no-go. The Galaxy S9 works with little fuss, so I know it's no a problem on the lapdock's end.

I've recently bought a refurbished Lap dock from an italian seller on Ebay to use with my Blackberry Key2 (Android Oreo) and I must say it is a brilliant solution. I come from the Sentio Superbook, witch is also a very interesting solution, but the Lap dock is definitely better: screen, keyboard, touchpad have no comparison... The Sentio desktop app, anyway, works very well and offers an (almost) true desktop environment.
I haven't had any particolar problem connecting the lapdock to my smartphone, even if sometimes the screen doesn't light up, using the standard cable. I think the best way is to insert the usb c cable ony after the screen is showing the two connection options, first in the lapdock and then in the smartphone. Key presses in the touchpad don't work, but gestures are just fine once you get used to them.
I've also tried the wireless connection using the Miracast app: recognizes the screen, but the touchpad doesn't work and the keyboard is double typing every character. So basically it is useless. Hope it can help someone...

no sorry, never got it working. would have been great. Maybe with some other lapdock in the future.

So it works with the Razer 1 through the cable? I have the lapdock and I'm shopping for a new phone but I'm not interested in the Note 9 which is supposed to work great with the lapdock as well.

It doesn't work wonderfully, YouTube can't run some of the time, and the audio doesn't work at all really. Just through head phones. Even with the new Dex updates. But it is fine in a pinch.
