Wow, new note is a beast! Comes in the titanium grey or white version.
Specifications:
Android Version: 4.1.1Jelly Bean
Display: 5.5” Super AMOLEDHD with 1280×720 Resolution (720p – 16:9)
CPU: Samsung’s Exynos4412 @ 1.6GHz
GPU: ARM’s Mali-400MP @400MHz
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 16GB, 32GB and64GB
MicroSD Slot: Yes
Camera: 8MP (1080p HD)Rear Facing Camera + 1.9MP (720p HD) Front Facing Camera
Battery: 3,100 MAh

Note II looks fantastic! I can't wait. Bye bye SIII lol.

Note2 is definitely a nice improvement, but not really worth upgrading from the largish S3 imo.
It has a slightly bigger screen (5.5 vs 4.8), a faster non-next-gen CPU, bigger battery, thinner, and the pen's sensitivity is 1024 vs 256, but other than that, not too much to get excited about.
The display's still pentile, and not using their new "unbreakable" flexible tech either.
I want the Note3 (yes, I said it), to be a button-less version like the Nexus.

mehhh note ii looks like a bigger version of the s3. I dont think its worth it, unless you want it for a longer battery life and a bigger screen. When the S3 gets jellybean I really couldn't care much about the note ii.

Yeah, I think the note is just way too big for my liking. The only comments they made about jelly bean was "it's coming soon" for all flag ship devices.

As far as phones are concerned, the GSIII is as large as I'll go. Anything else is overkill for me. If I need a larger screen for something, I'll use my tablet.

Im pretty sure the us version is not quad core
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

It won't be. Unless Samsung has a super new Exynos processor for it that makes LTE compatible with a quad core

If its the quad...it'll be the one they have for the sgs3 they released in Korea. It's a quad with lte...just won't be a all in one like the s4. It'll be separate...but I doubt it ...s4 for the US. Unless the S4+ is in it...quad and lte all in one chip.

What do you Imagine in the next Nexus Phone?

Well, i have to say that i love the Pure Google Experience that Nexus phones brings to customers, i feel really atracted by the fact that Nexus phones gets updates so frequently and mainly it's style. I followed closely all the Nexus Phones, Specially the last one, the Galaxy Nexus. Although i like it very much, The desing could be a bit more attractive, what disappointed to me is the hardware. 5 Megapixel Sensor in a TI OMAP 4460 Chipset? Are you Kidding me? What could be the reason, don't know, although it only carries 5mp camera the quality is very good and the 1080p 30fps video recording is good also, but i expected a better hardware, don't know in that moment what was better, anyways, the hardware could handle the 720p resolution just fine. What i'd like to see in the next Nexus phone is:
*Display: 4.7" with 720p Resolution, Super Amoled+ without Pentile.
*1.5 GB or 2GB of RAM
*TI OMAP5430 or 5432 Processor at 1.5 or 2.0 GHz 28nm Dual Core or Quad Core Processor with POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx
*8MP Camera (Its fine with 8mp but if they want to add 12mp or 20mp its welcome!) with 1080p 60fps Video recording.
*Better audio and Speaker hardware.
*2150mAh Battery
*Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
*4G LTE Support
What do you expect from the next Nexus Phone?
You pretty much nailed the specs just need the shell, camera and battery to follow suit.
Razr Max battery life
Attractive build that feels premium
Better camera

Why? Removable storage + partitions + UMS is a joke and annoying to deal with. Give me single storage with MTP any day. Just bump it up to 32gb/64gb this time around.

Seriously. Especially considering the MAXX can do it now. All phones should have it by the end of the year.
As far as OP goes, I'm down with that except:
*we need a bigger battery than 2150mAh. Let's do 3000mAh+, we know its possible.
*we don't need a larger camera sensor, we need a better one. With good software. MP's don't really matter.
*why just LTE? nowhere else in the world is close to adopting LTE other than North America. Let's see 42mbps (why not 84mbps?) dual-carrier HSPA+, with a pentaband radio. We need that option too.

Well actually the 1650mAh Battery in my galaxy s2 is fine, i finish the day with 50% battery.. I'm not a heavy user.. Think for me should be enough with 2150.. But, always more is welcome..! What do you all think about the processor? That TI OMAP 5430 Looks powerful and promising!

Except it'll be for sale in November, and all phones will have similar specs by that time.
The Nexus S was ~$600 with WVGA screen, 512mb RAM and 1ghz single core processor in 2010.
The Galaxy Nexus with 720p screen, 1gb RAM and 1.2ghz dual core processor wasn't $1000 in 2011...
The price will be about the same.

GS3: To buy or not...

GS3 threads here and there, lets add this to the mix.
Personally I'm eligible for an upgrade now. My expectations were to upgrade from S2 to S3. After the announcement I'm left wondering to buy or not to buy?
IMO breakdown:
It's S3 (feels like going from iphone 4 to 4s).
NFC on sprint (matching competition)
Processor (although not clear, most likely match of inches)
Screen/display (matching to behind competition)
Camera (not clear of quality improvement over S2)
Everything else pretty much matching competition.
What I was hoping for (to blast past others):
2ghz quadcore or similar
2gb ram
12mp camera with better/improved lense
Thinner to match the thinnest
Better screen display / resolution
Close to zero side beasal/ edge to edge screen
I feel like Samsung is wrong in this instance of copying apple with the idea of iphone 4 then 4s. Because, there is no iphone competition or choices. Samsung's reputation IMO is on the bottom of the list... (a) released s2 on sprint with bugs, los, charging problems and it took them MONTHS to fix/ release an update. ICS still coming soon 6months later. TW is not pretty.
Now don't get me wrong, I like my S2. The question is $500 to spend on s3 to get nfc and processor to load an app in 1sec vs 1.5 secs? The software will most likely be ported to s2.
After purchasing the ASUS transformer prime, I realized what excellent product support really means (3 updates within days/weeks to squash bugs, ics within a month, no failed promises). ASUS is as sexy if not sexier thanSamsung.
Overall, I went from 100% purchase of s3 to WAIT and see Asus phone, evo 4g lte, etc...
Not too impressed, I'll see what will be available by release date and if waiting few months to get siik with another phone, i'll definitely be waiting...
If you disagree, that's great. If you can't wait to buy, great. If you hate me, thats cool. BUT. lets be honest, it didn't blow me away in any way or squash the competition.

You're basing your decision on the international version, when sprints variant hasn't even been announced yet. Sprints is coming towards the end of the year. Q3 Samsung will have the quadcore a15 exynos with integrated LTE chip, meaning the sprint variant will most likely be sporting the exynos once again and a far superior processor to anything on the market at 1.5ghz 28nm quadcore SoC with Mali 600 gpu and integrated LTE

Keep dreaming. No way they'll release it with a quad-core A15 Exynos. Maybe a dual-core A15, but a quad-core A15 is almost too insane to comprehend. Worthy of a new phone in itself. I'd bet on a dual-core S4 or Exynos with LTE.

That's some wishful thinking right there... they said US variants are launching in June so most likely we'll see it with an S4 and some minor Sprint mods.

Oh god quad core A15 LTE will make me absolutely die not to mention sprint is always in front of everybody in specs and idk it might be possible to cause a big wave them bring in the higher end of a high end phone but hey I can pray ^^

I heard sprints version isn't coming out til Q4 and the quad core a15 exynos with integrated LTE is supposed to be ready Q3 so its a possibility, just like sprint got the better processor for the ET4G, USA GSM launch is mid to late summer but cdma(sprint) is rumored to be sept-dec launch again. I'm not gonna be upgrading til around then anyways and I'm waiting to see what the next nexus has to offer. LTE hits my area in the phase 2 rollout later this year and early December my 3rd line will be upgrade eligible so ill have 3 upgrades and I'm gonna hold on to my et4g til then since LTE will be available in my area. The one thing I do know is I won't be getting an HTC, I'm boycotting them for their BS unlock which is still locked out. Especially now that instead of the "unlocked" water mark you get a big fat ****TAMPERED**** watermark when you unlock your bootloader. And htcdev unlock is pretty much worthless because you can't do a whole hell of a lot after unlocking without being tied to a PC

Maybe not - Rumors from Japan are that the S. Korea and Japan devices - due out at the end of the month - may have the quad + LTE. And given Sammy's home country status I'd tend to believe that S. Korea would get it first - Japan second due to its proximity and potential customer base.
The device in question - reportedly DoCoMo SC-06D - has already been benchmarked and approved by Japan's version of the FCC. So we'll see if it's really the GS3 or not soon enough.
If its not for the wishful thinking, the GS3 is not worth the super hype. Too bad.
I will have to wait and see what sprint comes up with for their version. I'm not too impressed so far. This will be the first time I can remember that I will probably pass on the newest high end phone sprint releases.
I might as well get it anyways

Either way I'm not changing until next summer - will even have the missus hold off if she can. Next device will be LTE; based on how long it took our MVNO to get the E4GT (March) I'm guessing the S3 right around upgrade time next summer. That is if we stay with them....
....iphone 4s...
....Kyocera echo.......
....galaxy s3........
Bummer
It's my phone...any mis takes...sry
Very disappointed. I thought it was gonna blow the GS2 away but instead is like a GS2 Service pack 1. With that being said....I still have hope for sprint version, they always make their different from others.
Cheers from Japan!
When I first heard about the S3, I thought, finally a quad-core! Can't wait till it hits Japan! I was sooooo hyped because we usually get the cream of the crop here like with the S2 with the exynos dual-core, super amoled screen, mali-400 gpu and what not. But then I found out we are NOT getting the quad-core and getting a 1.5Ghz dual-core which really burst my bubble. Was sooo sad when I FIRST found out about that.
Then I did a little research if you can call it that, on the specs of the Japanese version of the S3.
Well what do you know! Japanese version is getting the msm8960 SoC (S4) which to my surprise, spec wise, is the most powerful chip in the smartphone market! Benchmarks and whatnot show it leaves everything else in the dust like a bugatti veyron racing a nissan micra! WTF?!? ...... Dual-core??? LOL
On top of that, the Japanese version is getting 2 Gigs of ram with 32 Gigs rom.
Woooohoooo! Can't wait till the bomb drops!!! (No pun intended) hehehe I'm totally lovin my S2, Gtab 7 is ok, Gtab 10.1 Lte is ........... alright.
Sorry 'bout goin krayzee but the dual-core just might be alright afterall!
On another note, the first released S3 has the exynos 4212 quad. The Japanese S2 has the exynos 4210 dual. Pin-to-pin is the supposed to be the same.
Anyone think a 4212 in an S2 is doable? I know that some kind of syncing software is needed but what bout the kernel, etc.?
Any opinions?

Just curious, have the docomo employees started to hint at a release date? I have a relative itching to get this since she refused to get the SC-02B (another immediate relative had it, can't be the same...)
I love the S2. Will not be getting the S3 though unless it really amazes me in hand (highly doubtful). When the S3 was announced I realized what really matters to me in a high end smartphone is screen and build quality. Pentile display?? You gotta be kidding me. I think the S2 display is better looking than the S3. Why would you skimp on display quality? That is literally the most distinctive and used aspect of any smartphone. Oh and also the build design look atrocious. 2011 = IPhone 4s vs S2 2012 = HTC One X vs IPhone 5 Welcome back HTC. Dont know what the hell happened to ya last year, back just in time though. This is all IMO exept S3 screen, it really does look like crap (fact).

Every review I've read puts the HTC one above the sgs3, even if only slightly. Coworker has the att version and its awesome. Think I'm going to hold off till the jelly bean phones though. I'm really happy with this phone and it runs ics great.
I'll see what the sgs4 looks like compared to what else is out next summer/fall.
plus, with lte still it its baby-stages, I don't want to give up my wimax phone yet. there's no 4g around my house but there is around work

ya if I lived in a Wimax area I would be hesitant to give up a 4g phone as well. But I don't and Im taking sprints LTE roll out very lighty after the promises of 4g in are area for 2+ years and no delivery. On sprint s website they claim to have 4g in Omaha...but they do not have it anywhere here. Flat out liers! Thats why im jumping ship to At&t, I dont care about umlimited data, sprint will pull it once they roll out LTE everywhere. On a side note if you want out of a sprint contract etf free just flash a VZW prl and roam your ass off ;P

To bad the nexus has always been almost the exact same thing as the S models. Wishful thinking though. Dont get me wrong that would be tight but I HIGHLY doubt it. hopefully sprint wont get it 3 months before the S4 drops like last nexus and the s3

[DISCUSSION] New Nexus Device?

I have been discussing the expectations of the next Nexus device with Qbking77 and other ACS members.
Have any of you heard any news or even rumors of the next Nexus device?
Also, what are your expectations of a new Nexus phone? Including:
-Screen specs
-Internal specs
-Etc;
Input would be GREATLY appreciated on this! Thanks guys!
I think is going to be another Samsung phone. That's what I read, that google had chosen them again.
I also heard that we were going to see 5 Nexus phones but I highly doubt it.
I will probably be a quadcore but i don't really see anything wrong if they go dual core, maybe same screen size or a small bump to 4.8 to be along the lines of the Galaxy S3. 2gb or Ram and improves screen, possibly still pentile technology, which i don't mind to be honest. A 8mp improved camera.
I hope they use this OMAP processor or Exynos. Something completely open source for easy hacks and tweaks.

i havent heard new rumors for the next nexus apart from 5 nexuses rumors..
and my expectations for the next nexus following todays android phone footprint:
- made by samsung (again)
- 4.65 to 5 inch HD SAMOLED screen (with + maybe?)
- TI OMAP 5 processor
- 1 gb of memory..
- 16/32 gb internal storage (no external memory)
- 8 megapixel + FF camera
- curved glass screen
- notification light
- NFC
- possibly with android 5.0
and im hoping they will make only unlocked version..

Well I know that Google said they we're releasing 5 "devices" which the first two were the Nexus 7 and that Q thing...
But yeah, I hope it is Samsung too. I hope to see a thinner device as well. I mean the Gnex is thin but nothing like the RAZR! My father has one and I can't believe how incredibly thin it is!
As far as the innards, your right... It's gotta be quad core...

This seems the most logical assumption I've seen yet.

I've stopped caring about bleeding edge and have started caring about what Google cares about for their Nexus devices. A collection of hardware and software that not only "just works" but does so while giving a fantastic, great performing, and stable user experience.
Love my Galaxy Nexus and when upgrade time comes I'll continue to buy whatever they have up their sleeve, regardless of who they choose to have manufacture it.
Google IMO knows their ****.

Hey as long as they make it Black or Gunmetal color and not "Pebble Blue" I'll take those specs!
Curved glass is a must though... I love it on this Gnex
I think it would be pretty awesome to see Google pair up with motorolas hardware that would make a pretty awsome phone in my opinion.

Motorola RAZR thinness maybe... But knowing their reputation with Motoblur I doubt they would let Google get away with a device without it...
But YES the build quality of a Motorola would feel slightly better than the plasticity of the Nexus devices in the past...
Let's all cross our fingers! Lolz.
I enjoy the 4.65" screen but I think it's still pushing it. I sincerely hope it doesn't get any bigger than it already is, but I know plenty of people would beg to differ.

As long as the next one has softkey's I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen due to the fact that the keys take up screen space...
But 5" would be WAY too much... I would never get a Galaxy Note for that reason...
A better battery it's all I want
I don't care if the screen gets larger as long as they go longer rather than wider again like they did with this one.

I say Google will put more ram like 2gn, to not be overshadowed by the s3 or iPhone 5. I also think a bigger screen, more memory(a lot of people have been complaining maybe they listen), and hopefully omap 5.

What an odd thing for you to say. Just buy the gsm version.
My guess is that it will be similar to the gs3 but redesigned w/o the hardware button.
I also hope for a better screen, camera and noise cancellation

not a single rom/apps harness the entire 1gb of memory until now, even most costum rom builders here are always keeping their rom memory friendly.. so really theres no point having over 2gb of memory beside spec sheet show-off..
also, smartphone screens caps at 5 inch max imo.. above that would be galaxy note territory.. and i dont think nexuses would compete with note..
Here's what I wish next nexus has:
4-4.6' super amoled HD/plus/super LCD.
latest TI omap/ other powerful processor
16/32 GB storage for international version!
8/12 MP + other hardware features/Low light..etc
1+ GB RAM
battery life Razor MAxx or S3. 3.8V battery
build quality like One X or Razor. as thin as S3/One X.
I wish there are many nexus devices with various screen size. For me 4 inch screen is the best size....

Is it worth switching from an S3 to a note 2?

Basically I know it's a quad core but would I really see that huge of a difference to take a hit cost wise to upgrade?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Do you want the bigger screen? That is the only reason I'd think about switching.
I just got the s3 love it but I wanna know if I'm better of waiting for the note 2. And no screen size doesn't matter to me. Basically would it be a noticeable performance difference from my s4 chip to the quad? Would I actually notice a huge speed difference in games and in day to day use?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
If you do a lot of hardcore gaming on your phone probably but for day to day use not at all.
It all depends on your personal needs. S3 for my phone and an IPad for my tablet. My current wardrobe doesn't have enough pocket room for the note 2. No way in hell I'm going to put it in my back pocket either... CRUNCH! I'd also have to use a Bluetooth, holding that whopper phone to your face would be weird. The Quad core would be nice, however I will wait for the S4 for quad core. 1. Screen size 2. Quad core 3. How deep are your pockets
Sell your S3 on XDA or Amazon and buy it out right, forget going the contract route. Good luck and god bless!
Yeah it is a huge phone and I do already have a nexus 7. So maybe I am good with my current setup. Also am I correct in assuming the mod community is better with the s3 then with the note?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Note2 will be better for gaming because of GPU. And since it's international it will have more ROMs, devs, MODs etc.
Remember: there is always next big thing. SGS4 coming. Start saving. etc
So if you had to pick what would you go with?
The Note II's screen is not only bigger, but is much higher quality because it has the standard RGB subpixel layout as opposed to the PenTile layout on the SIII.
And the Note II's battery is a massive 3100 mAh, so it's like an SIII battery and a half.
But I've also heard that though the Exynos is faster, devs have had a hard time with it because of Samsung holding back information.
I mean it's really up to you to weigh the pros and cons. I personally wouldn't want to use a Note II as a primary phone; even with my big hands I feel it would be too much. I think the SIII is my upper limit for screen size.

Okay thanks everyone for the help. I to agree that even for me the note seems big. I guess I was just looking to see as a first time android buyer that I made the right choice for a first phone.
Sg3 is a great choice. Ive been contimplating new note 2 also.if it releases for at&t before my 30days up, I might return sg3 and get new note. I like the bigger screen. Plus I hsve the note 10.1 tablet. So they would go great together.
Either choice would be good.
Im getting right when its released

short answer: no.
I bought my S3 just as a holdover for the Note II (from the Note N7000). Personally the screen on the S3 is still too small for my taste. (Not saying I think its too small, its great, I just personally like bigger).
If you don't think you'll use the S-Pen, and you don't feel the need for a bigger screen, then swapping to the Note II is silly from an S3.
Yeah the only reason I was thinking about it was for the cpu. But from what I have ever been reading the s3 appears to be able to handle everything. Just want to make sure it will hold me over for at least a year (I upgrade at least once a year).
I was mulling upgrading my S3 to the Note2, but decided to hold out another year for the Note3, since it should be a bigger feature bump, with:
1) 1080p (720p hdmi output looks a little crappy upscaled to 1080p)
2) The new "unbreakable" flexible display tech
3) The new & faster samsung flashstorage, with 32/64/128GB internal as the new standard
4) 12MP camera
5) WiDi (wireless HDMI output so you don't need MHL)
6) A 5.65" display with a commensurate 0.1" reduction in bezel. (Made this one up )

note 2 Owners: does the galaxy s4 intrigue you enough to consider switching?

I think 5" screen would be perfect not to mention the other upgrades across the board. I love my note 2 to death but I do find it to be ever so slightly too large for my hands that 5" might be perfect.
Nope... not in the least
Development is going great.. theming is moving forward.. This phone has too much going on to just switch now.
Until I have a use for a 8/16 core phone... I'll keep making this one better and better

Ditto....I've never been more content with a phone....EVER
Note III.
6.3 inch screen? And even more functional SPen?
No doubt the SIV will be impressive, but I don't think I could ever buy a smaller device. 5 inches is small to me now.
My piggy bank is waiting.
I agree about the screen size. I'm so used to this that going smaller just doesn't make sense to me anymore. The specs on this phone is already amazing. I still have my gs3 that just sits there. And the s4 is to be just slightly bigger in screen size then the s3. No thank you. Not for me anymore. Like somebody else said I'll wait for the note 3.

If the s4 doesn't have anything greater than a quad and no amazing software improvements like the note 2 gallery, all share, touch wiz enhancement (yes its not as bad as it used to be in fact I love it on the GN2) then ill hold outtill GN3
Besides I see the i9300 may have 4.2 update comming soon so im sure we will also

I bought my note 2 specifically for simple note taking with spen... Sold my galaxy s3 which was great for it originally from iPhones the galaxy s3 made me an android lover over ios despite 3 past early efforts of trying.
I would definitely be intrigued in a note 3 but I really don't see much to improve on right now.... Maybe external card slot usb hdmi etc without using micro usb adapter? Even then probably not. Great phone this note 2

Well in terms of size, I agree with you. I'm not adjusting to my Note II as well as I hoped - it's too big for me (one handed use and pocket). I'd prefer 130x70 mm phone with a 5" screen, perhaps with a pen, though I don't use it that much so far. But I'm not going to get an S4 - I'll wait for the next Nexus before considering a change. At least our phone (AT&T Note II) is rootable, but the fact that AOSP ROMs are handicapped by some hardware secrets (or so is my understanding) is too annoying to repeat a non-Nexus purchase. I hate the lack of SD card and battery too, but if I have to, I'll live with it next time (maybe in 2 years the internal storage will be large enough I won't care about the SD card).
Dara
My concern is that the GNII feels just big enough to make use of the spen, I don't feel like it would scale down to 5" size that well.
And like others I'm so 100% satisfied by this beast that I can't even imagine switching right now.

Here are the specs for the S4
Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset,
4.99 inches of Screen Size,
PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU,
Quad Core 1.8GHz Processor,
2GB RAM,PPI of 441
13MP Rear Camera, 2.1MP Front Facing Camera,NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi Fi ac/ b / g/ n,
Jellybean 4.2 Firmware out of the Box
Besides the smaller screen, the chipset and the 13mp camera
Not too different from the Note 2. And Im pretty sure Verizon will have thier bootloaders locked.

I'm actually holding off until the Note 3. If the GN3 is 6.3", I'll buy the S4. Otherwise, GN3 it is.
Size doesn't matter... It's how you use it! That said, I'm not at all tempted. I love my GN2.

No. I did that with my OG note and the s3. Ended up getting the note 2. Will wait for the note 3.
I love my note 2 and can not see myself with any other phone right now. I find it to be ahead of the curve and I can't think of what else they can do to improve it beside a bigger app selection "apps not games" but that's a developer issue. We need more devs to cater to us the note 2 users.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Getting an S IV would be a downgrade for most people who got the Note 2 for what it was intended to be used for. I haven't met many people who could go back to a smaller screen after owning a Note. For the people who are just spec whores and want the latest + greatest, I'm sure the S IV will be something they can't live without. But for those who want the large screen and all of the great things that come with it; the capabilities of the S Pen; and other features that won't be entirely eclipsed by the S IV... the Note 2 will continue to serve us well. I may be slightly jealous of a full-1080p HD screen and incremental hardware improvements, but other than that, I can easily wait for the Note 3 which of course will dance circles around the S IV. And what's up with the megapixels of these cameras getting insanely bigger and bigger? Just marketing hype tailored towards the ignorant. Most people equated more megapixels with better photo quality, having no idea it just means you'll be able to take insanely large pictures, for print media and displaying on large screens. Give me a great camera with DSLR-like quality. The extra megapixels can suck it!
Exynos + PowerVR = Drool
I'll be grabbing one if true
