Searching a Dual Car charger for Nexus 7 + HTC One X - General Accessories

Hello everybody,
I will soon get my Nexus 7 and want use it as a GPS. Now I am trying something really difficult in the World of iDevices still not having the standards applied.
I am searching for a dual USB charger cappable of fully charging (not just usb mode, but AC) both the Nexus 7 and my One X at the same time.
So it would need a 2.1A Output matching the Nexus 7 and a 1A for the One X...
All I found was some chargers mostly designed for iPad's and other iDevices...
Please help me if you know more than me
Thanks for your advices !! :fingers-crossed:

Car Charger for the 2nd Gen different from 2012 N7...?

It seems the chargers are a little bit different for this model. I had the 2012 N7 and tried like 5 different cables and cahrgers before I settled on the PowerGen Dual USB 3.1A 15w High Output Car Charger from Amazon.
However... I looked at the back of the Ac Adapter with my 2nd gen and its specs are input: 100-240v .25A 50/60hz / output: 5.2v ~ 1.35A
I think the 2012 N7 was Input: 100-240V, 0.3A / Output: 5.0V/2A,10W
What difference will that make in getting some extra chargers...?
I haven't tested my 2nd gen in the PowerGen Dual USB 3.1A 15w cus I don't want to fry it.
The device will only take what it needs, current wise.
If the voltage is 5V, then anything 1.35A or above at 5V should be no problem.
Is there a dual port car charger that would work for the Nexus 7 and my Samsung S4 for them both to be on the charger at the same time?

Do you charge both items at the same time while they are operating?
Do you use the standard USB cable for the device in this unit?
I want to use the Nexus 7 GPS and get the signal from my Galaxy s4, so both will be running and need to be on charge most of the time together. Will this work?

Car Charger

Anyone find one that works well? I got a Cellet retractable micro use charger last week, and it charges my Motorola Electrify M just fine as well as my Gen 1 N7. No dice on the N7 FHD.
Ideas?

I just got one of the sea few day ago:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B8M4IMK/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has dual USB ports. One is marked Android the other Apple. The apple port if specifically designed for apple devices (iPhone 5, iPad).
Individually each port can do about 2 amps, or 3.6 amps total if both are being used. The Apple port will charger other devices slowly with standard Data sync cables or full speed with a charging only cable (no data).
Basically with a Charging only cable you could charge two device, one at about 2.1 amps max and the other at about 1.5 amps max (3.6 total amps).
I have two dedicated charging only cables coming that I plan to keep with this car charger so I can charge my phone and tablets on to go.
I tried my Nexus 2013 in my dual Sprint car charger that I got from amazon (Technocel MV9MCDUO-SP OEM Sprint Car Charger - Black with USB Port) and I'm getting a really good charge for my Nexus.
I even tested my phone charging in it's USB port while the Nexus was charging on the main cord and both seemed to cahrge jsut fine.
If I just charge my Motorola Photon on the main cord it charges faster than any AC adapter or car charger I've ever used.
I highly recommend it.
I can't post links yet but its $6 on Amazon.. search for... Technocel MV9MCDUO-SP OEM Sprint Car Charger - Black with USB Port
Fommy says its compatibale for the Nexus 7 2013 too but it's $19.95 there.

SKU: 89356
Price: $ 19.95)

I suppose that would work, a 2 amp or 1 amp car charger should power most QI chargers.
Not sure I see the point though, I see two issues:
1. Wireless charging is less efficient and slower (better suited for the desk or night stand).
2. There's a good change the device will move around while driving and not charge if the coils are not aligned properly.
You could try a modify a car mount to hold a wireless charger, but you still would have the slower charging issue, withc may not really be an issue for some.
I have however seen a car mount that holds the phone and has a opening to hold a round QI charger, but wouldn't work for the N7. See here:

What I'm thinking is, taking the back of a slide-in type cover and hardwiring the wireless charger behind it. A slide in type cover should minimize any movement/alignment issues.
Then affixing the entire assembly over my existing NAV screen in the dash with the wireless charger hardwired to the car.
Then, I can slide in/slide out the Nexus as desired, and not have to worry about fiddling around with the Micro USB connector.
I'm not concerned about charging efficiency, more about maintaining power. A 2A charger at 60% efficiency should provide me the 1.35A that the Nexus 7 needs. When needed I can remove it and fully charge it.

QI Charger which PSU ?

Hi
Didn't think of this before I bought it.. But I've just received a QI charger from Amazon.
Which charger do I used with it?
The one from my nexus 5 or the one from the nexus 7 2013?
Ideally I want to be able to charge either device.
The QI states 5v 1500ma input.
Also what's the best app to monitor the charging, time, input heat etc?
Thanks

I can't say for what apps to monitor times etc... But
Did your qi charger not come with a mains power adapter.
I can't say for the nexus 7 but the nexus 5 comes with a 5v 1200ma charger so it won't be able to supply the current that your qi pad needs.
Have a look on your nexus 7 power brick. It will tell you what it outputs.
Nexus 5
Input : 100-240V

Output : 5.0V 1.2A

what brand? you can try plugging it in your laptop. mine (Nillkin) says Input: 5V/2A but it still works just fine if i plug it in the laptop.
otherwise I use the Nexus 5 charger. I think it's just the maximum your charger can handle.
You can use any USB power source... What varies is charge rate. I picked up a 2amp supply from amazon. You have to figure in less than 70% efficiency... Especially taking into account non laboratory ideal conditions and manufacturing...
1 amp input will be like slow charging from a computer at best. 2 amp will be on par with regular wall charging if not better. You always want an adapter that is above what the charger can handle to make full use of the charger... Lower ones will still let it work to lesser and lesser degrees till it doesn't charge the device depending on supply and device needs

It can be used with either the Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 AC Adapters. The Nexus 5 is 1.2A and the Nexus 7 (2013) is 1.35A I believe. Neither will fully power the Qi charger, but it will still be enough to make it work. The charging time for your phone will just be longer since the Qi charger is not being provided full power, so the current the Qi charger can provide to the phone will also be lower. If you want your Qi charger to operate at full efficiency/power, try to use an AC adapter that is 1.5A or higher.
Since your Qi charger only requires 1.5A, the Nexus 7 AC adapter is the closest, so I would recommend using that one.
In the future though, you might want to consider buying a higher output AC adapter:
The Blackberry Folding Blade Charger is 1.8A output, and microUSB, so you can plug it directly into your Qi charger (or phone if you ever need to charge you phone at rocket speed!):
http://www.amazon.com/Blackberry-Folding-Blade-Charger-Playbook/dp/B004OZMWUS/ref=sr_1_30?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1391055305&sr=1-30&keywords=usb+wall+adapter
The Boxwave Fast microUSB charger provides 2A output, microUSB as well, so if you ever buy another Qi charger it would be good, as many Qi chargers require 2A input.
http://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-Amazon-Kindle-Paperwhite-Charger/dp/B0007POE6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391055608&sr=8-1&keywords=boxwave+2a
You could also just buy an adapter similar to the Nexus 5/7 without the cord attached. For example, something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-2-4-Amp-Charger-Designed-Android/dp/B0073FCPSK/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1391057154&sr=1-7&keywords=2A+android+usb+charger

+1 on ccc71's apps -- I had several of his first-generation ones and recently took his generous offer to consolidate into Android Tuner (his all-in-one app). He has been great to work with on a dev level and his apps reflect his top-notch skills.

I've tried my nexus 7 charger with the qi pad and ran battery monitor widget.
Tablet showed at -432ma, sat it on the qi pad and it changed to -124ma!!
Why a negative figure ? I assume I'm using more power than its charging.
Would a 5v 2a charger male much difference ?

Hi
Just had a thought the value I'm ready is when the screen is on, out it being off make any difference ?

Try using currentwidget (free) to read just the current being provided during charge.
Set it to update at 1 second intervals.
Even with the screen on, if you are not using navigation, streaming stuff, gaming, etc. it should charge even if it is not getting the full 1.5A current provided to it. It would just charge slower not discharge.

As I learned from another thread, the cable makes a significant difference. After using a 2a charger, current widget, and checking the charge of all my cables: 2 provided about 1.4a, a few 1.1a,and a large number of cables cut power down to 600 down to 300.
You need a capable 2a charger, a quality cable that you have actually tested, and a qi charger that accepts 2a and doesn't lose a majority when converting to induction.

Did it happen to be this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609087
You might have read that from one of my posts hahah.
I've said in different Qi charger threads to have a good 2A charger and to replace the included micro USB cable with higher quality cables (premium monoprice cables, or the Motorola Ecomoto)
I did a video demonstration on USB cable quality here. Didn't expect that drastic of a difference.

Hi.
I'm using a nexus 7 charger
1st models charger is 5v 2a
I've tried the following cables: included, nexus 5, nexus 7 (1st edition and 2013) and a couple of other cables.. All with very similar results.
Think I'll send this charger back and then with a recommended one.

Replacement usb charging cable?

Bought a pre-owned N7 today but it's missing the official usb charging cable. Don't suppose there's a cheap solution? The Asus shop only sells the cable and adapter together and it's rather pricey here in Ireland.
I know there are cheap non official cables you can get but I'm not sure whether they will just cause more problems.
Help! Thank you!
Don't you have any micro USB cables lying around? Any of them should work perfectly.

Ah OK thank you. I just remember the 2012 being a bit fussy about what cable it would charge with.

i am going to tell you right now that that suggestion is not good. A while back, i bought 4 OEM LG cables to charge my devices, including my nexus. The cables charge all of my devices other than the Nexus. below this is a link that i posted on amazon to some cables that i have indeed bought and can confirm work with no issues with the nexus 2013 revision.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GDG1KMM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
best of luck
All cables are NOT the same.
From one to the other you can go from .48 amps to 1.1 amps depending. I've seen some output zero on one devise and .44 on another. Get yourself a little monitor to test those cables. Also you might want to get a dumb cable that only charges vs. a smart cable that charges and syncs.

You do not need any special device to test the cables as you suggest. There are two apps I use to test the current flow on my nexus to determine which Micro USB Cables charge it the fastest. The apps are Current Widget and Battery Monitor. Don't need both but both can be used for the purpose of seeing how fast your phone is being charged.
I have many cables I have tried and found that OEM cables do work best for charging, for after market cables I own, the mono price thin Micro USB cables work the best on my nexus 7. I also have amazon basics USB cables but those do not charge well enough. I have a nexus 7 and a moto x currently, so when I can I use the moto x OEM cable with my nexus 7 and any cable with the moto x (the moto x has some kind of optimized charging ability and I have found it charges well enough regardless of cable, but the nexus 7 needs the right cable to charge at a good rate)
Thanks for all the replies....I knew I was asking a valid question. One day my N7 2012 just stopped charging with the supplied ASUS cable. Luckily I had a Samsung travel adapter lying around which it didn't seem to mind! Thanks for the Amazon links but unfortunately I'm not in the States (Ireland).
My Asus cable went bad on me within the first 2 weeks of me buying my tablet (new). I used an old HTC cable with the Asus wall charger for a while, then went with a Qi wireless charger. Much better than factory, now. That's my suggestion to you as well, just go with a Qi charger and be done with wires!
SwiftKey'ed from my white Note 3 via XDA Premium
Just get a few micro-usb cables on eBay...
Have you guys found any cables that work with the OEM charger? I broke my original cable, and it seems that all my other cables have too much plastic shielding around the USB port to go into the slot. I have ordered a Monoprice cable and I was wondering if anyone has used this with the OEM charger
I have not had any problems with charging using my various mixed brands of micro usb cables. I have a dedicated 5 port usb charger capable of outputting a max of 2 amps per port and all seems fine. The only problem I've run into is one of my portable chargers seems to not like the N7.
Every single ASUS charger cable I have owned has failed more than once..
They are made cheaply but they charge a fortune for them..
You can find a cheap, but higher grade cable if you look in Amazon or eBay..
Just check what is the maximum Amps it can take..
I go through cords every day.. The ASUS cables failed the fastest..

[Q] HTC One M8 - Alternate Charger

Hi,
Just like to gather some ideas regarding using other charger for HTC One M8 with a little higher voltage that its normal charger.
I have a Nexus 7 2013 with 5.2V while the original HTC charger which came from the box is 5V only. I know that mAh will not have an effect with it's difference but I'm not sure about the voltage. Is it safe to use 5.2V charger on HTC One M8?
Thanks!
