Hey everyone, I've been using custom roms since they first appeared on these forums. This said, i have come across a huge issue.
I was on a 2.2.1 rom and something was screwy with the radio so i flashed the right radio files, which didnt help. So after this i thought the issue must be deeper in the rom, so i decided to install one of the other roms i had that i knew worked. This now leaves me with a unbootable phone (goes to the point of blue android text) the animation stops and the screen flashes. The animation then restarts, it does this indefinitely.
I can boot into recovery and flash mode just fine. However interestingly in recovery i cant 'click' the hidden hide button in the bottom right to perform a wipe etc. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?
thanks
Dave.
The "hidden button" doesn't work on 2.2 so to get into recovery screen when you see the android logo press the volume up & volume down buttons both at the same time. This will take you to the recovery screen where you use the volume button to highlight an action & then press the power button once to confirm it.
I feel so stupid.
Thankyou so much mate. I owe you a beer. +1 internets.

I know a Chinese custom 2.2 rom doing this as well. It's strange.
Hi guys,
I feel very ashamed but here's what I've done. I only wanted to know the HBOOT version of my mobile (well, now I know, it's 0.93), but, once in HBOOT menu, I asked myself how I was supposed to quit it.
I decided to select "recovery", hoping (again, shame on me) that my choice was right.
Well, after selecting it, I'm stuck in a black screen with a image of a Desire in the center and a red triangle with an exclamation mark. You can see a link here (I had to insert two spaces [one after http and one after .c] as I am not supposed to insert links - sorry about that but if it can help you I hope it's ok):
http ://htcevohacks.c om/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/htc-evo-recovery-mode-4.jpg
Can you tell me how to get out of this awkward situation?
I thank you all in advance!!
A noob. Very very noob.
If you do not root your phone, you cannot access recovery from hboot.
Press volume up button and power button at the same time.
If this does not work, pull battery out, wait 10 minutes, pull battery in and boot phone normally.
No warranty for any damage.
Thanks MatDrOiD for your reply
I however do not intend to "try one option and cross my fingers" again, as I have just done that and seen the results myself I therefore ask if there's another suitable option.
[EDIT]: All eyes can see is what we want them to see. From your post, I saw at first only one option: "take out the battery and restart". But you gave me the solution just one line above... I pressed volume up button and power button at the same time and voilà, simple reboot and everything back to normal!
Thanks so much MatDrOiD, I owe you one
Thats not an "do that and cross your fingers" option. The first option i found for example here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...10453/help-phone-get-stuck-with-red-triangle/
I did not get from your answer, wether you tried this option or not.

Anytime.
hi, i know that is solved but just for info...
no need to pull out the battery even in a bootloop.
press power button + vol down + trackpad and the phone reboots.
Depends on when in the boot process it fails, if it stalls at initializing the kernel, the phone won't reboot doing that..
Also pulling the battery is not a stupid thing to do, when you are not flashing anything to the memory, as it won't hurt you device in any way.
Hello Guys....
i have a really bad situation and i think it might get worse, i got my phone few weeks ago and it was running 2.3.3 later i got the OTA update to 2.3.5
then i wanted to root and found that the best tool is AAHK i downloaded and ran it and it asked for downgrade since my version is 3.13.415 and i agreed.. at the end of the process where it should update and i should hit "power to restart" didn't come up, thought there was nothing working and the menu just was still, so i tried to restart it from the menu. so i got the htc logo and it just froze there i tried to restart over and over again, yet no luck and i noticed the s-on thing and googled alot and found that i should flash a stock rom to get it running so i went to site called shipped roms and got one and tried to install it, but the installer said the rom isn't compatible or somethin....and i remmebered getting one from another rooting guied so i tried flashing it and it worked, but it took about 15 minutes for the device to boot up and the first vibe took about 10 minutes to finish but eventually it worked and the version i got on the phone was 2.2 but without arabic language "something i want" but it was okay, now i was a bit curios about the AAHK menu so i started it and it just started working :$ :S that's something i didn't want to happen but i was scared to pull the cable and it restarted to the "black screen with htc logo" and the tool saying "INFOsignature checking"...
sooooo is there any ideas about what can and should i do, how can i make everything back to normal or anythin
please make it fast, i really can't wait any longer
------------------------update-----------------
After about 20 minutes of waiting i had no nerve left for waiting so now i took the usb cable and took the battery out and re installed it and hit power and while i'm writing the update it's viberating and it just stopped and waiting for the "quitly briliant" hope it works
it did (sorry if i nag to much and keep updating with every second)
now guys i really don't want to root or s-off or anythin... i just want to get my DHD fully up and ruunin
will the OTA update fix everything (the boot-up thing ?) and i want to get arabic language installed-how to do that
please help me
thx

Doing a software update on a rooted phone will only revert the ROM to stock one. Key is patience. There is NO WAY at all that AAHK would mess something up on its own. I know this for a fact since I have used it to root 8 other DHD's so far without any issues. If you are not sure how it works then read more. You probably pulled the usb out before AAHK finished proper the first time.

now after about hour or so i'm still stuck at the same update state, even when i removed the battery and restarted the phone i'm still back to the same screen with nothing more..... hope u can help me with anything that can make my phone boot-up again ( no matter what's the version-in the mean time-)

Looks to me like you bricked your phone. Remove the battery for a few minutes and put it back in. Do NOT turn the phone on but instead hold down Volume down + Power and see if you can boot into Hboot. It should lead you to a white screen with skateboarding androids. Post here everything it says there.

i'll try to get in there, but if i have a bricked phone... is there anyway to fix it(just give me a -yes/no- answer) for now.... i'll rebort as soon as i get into the hboot screen(hopefully)
btw i removed my sd card an out it in a card reader, and i couldn't access it, do u think it got anythin to do with it ??
If you are unable to enter hboot then sadly there is no return and your phone is gone. Hold down power + vol down for as long as it takes until it hopefully takes you into hboot.

mmmmmmmm, for the SD card i was able to get back in
and i tried to enter the hboot(but my finger slipet for split second) and i'll try againg
but on the other hand... don't u think that since i'm getting to the update screen that there might be a slice of hope for me ??

Not if its constantly stuck on the update screen without any progress. Do as I said, boot into hboot holding power + vol down keys until it boots. Write what it says there. If you can't get into hboot... Game over.

As I said before, if you can't boot into hboot then sorry but I don't know of any other solution. Maybe someone else can provide better explanation, but as far as I know, if you are constantly stuck on update screen and if you can't get into hboot at all then nothing else can be done.

i found something called hard reset -i'll give it a try- do u think that it might help ? (hope it does)
this is how i found it's done.....
1) Firstly you have to turn off your device and after that hold the volume + and volume – button together.
2) Continue pressing both the buttons and after sometime hold the power button for some time.
3) Once you have pressed the three buttons you will get the message about the change in the factory settings and also to keep a backup of the data.
4) After the message is displayed leave all the buttons then press the volume + button to start with the hard reset operation.
5) After doing this the reset operation will be carried out and all the data will be permanently removed.
do u have any info about it ???

The only option of Factory Reset I know of is through hboot. And if you cant boot there then I really can't help you.
Are you sure you did it properly? Turn the phone off, remove battery for a few minutes, put it back in. Then Press POWER + VOLUME DOWN and hold for about 10-15 seconds. That should take you into hboot and from there you can see if your phone is S-OFF and do a factory reset.
I think that you are to nervous now
just pull out the battery, put it back in..
hold VOL - (minus, down) and press the power for about 3-4 sec, than release only power button.
if that don't get you to white hboot screen than nicely take the phone to your dealer and ask for waranty.. tell them that it got stuck on OTA update
Thanx Lord.

the main problem that stopping me the most is the long time that the phone takes to boot up, i mean that if i try to start the phone it will take about 10 minutes to get to the update screen where it stops there
so holding them for 15 seconds is somethin that i think will do me no good result or actually no result at all ..... do u recommend pluging the usb in/out or anythin like that..... i know that i'm asking to much from you, but please bear with me and should i move the thread to another section in this case so i can get more help.....
please stick with me a little
really thx for your help
no use of plugging/unplugging the phone...

There is no point in connecting usb or anything else to the phone. Do as both Lord and I have said and write down what it says in the hboot once you get in. Booting into hboot is not the same as normal boot. Don't try to act smarter then people that are trying to help you.
Edit: Don't move the thread.
ok guys, trying it and really thx...i'll report as soon as i get anything
So I used to have an iPhone, and then it got stolen. My sister, who currently lives across the country (university) has a friend who gave her their old HTC One V. She turned it on and it worked, and then shipped it to me. I went to Bell and then their employee set it up with my account, did a factory restore, and then rebooted it. I saw it turn on and work properly in front of my own eyes, but I had to go charge it at home as it was dead.
I get home, connect it to a charger, the orange charging light on the top turns on, and it opens up a menu that says "ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.1" The options below say: Reboot system now, install zip from sdcard, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, backup and restore, mounts and storage, and advanced.
Now, at the Bell store we factory reset, and rebooted the system, and then the phone worked. However, now when I press "reboot system now," it goes black, the orange charging light turns off, and then it gets frozen on the "HTC One, quietly brilliant" screen. It stays that way until it dies, and I can't even hard reset while it's frozen. It is completely frozen. I even tried to connect it to HTC Sync Manager, but when I plug it in, nothing happens. It doesn't detect the phone. I'm on a Macbook Pro, for context.
Help? I can't even do anything on my phone, and being a new Android user, I have no idea what to do.

Dang it, you have MANY things to learn I propose you to search some noob threads on this forum and learn what root, bootloader, recovery, kernel, S-ON/S-OFF and ROM is and how to flash them... but SEARCH first instead of asking, it will help you in the future
btw, you will have hard times because of your Mac it's the worst and useless thing people could buy
Hiya,
so to be clear you can still boot the phone into ClockWorkMod or not? One way to do this is to turn phone off then, turn it back on while holding the volume down button.
Do not despair there are many ways out of your problem! However I think if you OSX it may make things a little more complicated.
Feel free to google for answers, check the HTC One V forums here (good search bar up top right) or just ask away.

Sorry, not exactly sure what you mean. To explain further, if the phone has any power at all, and not frozen on the loading screen, it loads the ClockWorkMod recovery menu. Because pressing the power button at that menu just selects whatever is highlighted, I can't turn it off. Hard reset (down volume + power) similarly doesn't work, because down volume just moves the selection down. And when it's frozen on the loading menu, hard reset, power off, nothing works. So because I can't even turn the phone off or anything, I think my answer to your question is no. I may just be extremely nooby and be turning it off wrong :cyclops:

Hi Alvin,
do you have the SDcard the phone had before? Can you put ADB and Fastboot on your computer? I can then work with you to explain how to put your own rom and kernel on the phone to get it to boot.

I was entertaining the possibility the power button is partly broken, and I think that's the case. Sometimes pressing the power button doesn't trigger what is selected in the menu and takes a couple tries. However, because of your comment I tried a few more times to turn it off and I think it actually turned off once. I held it down and it faded to black, but there was no "Power Off" button I had to touch before it went black. Is that just because I was in the ClockworkModRecovery menu? Did it actually shut off that one time?
EDIT: I've been able to do the same thing a few times now, even once in the frozen "HTC quietly brilliant" screen! However, I can't seem to hard reset, and I'm thinking maybe my volume down key is similarly faulty.

Indeed the power button is quite sensitive on HOV so you might need to keep trying several times when using it.
Holding power button is a hard shut down and it shouldn't ask you to confirm this action. It's ok. Unless you have the system already started it may ask you for reboot options. Even in this case the phone will shut down if you'll still keep the power button down for a long time.
At first you may try the simplest thing I guess. Start recovery (you might remember it should start automatically when you turn off the phone and plug in a charger) and choose the menu option "wipe cache partition". Restart the phone after clearing the cache. There is a small chance but this might help.
If not you have to continue your research with adb commands.
Another option is to asquire sd card, I think it would be easier for you when you are using mac.

Well you can flash an RUU to get the stock rom back, it will get rid of the recovery and you will be able to start from stock.

Yeah, unfortunately the cache partition isn't working. If I buy a SD Card, and I put it in my phone and start, what do you anticipate will happen? Because it's fresh, will it load up as if I am turning on the phone for the first time, or will that depend on whether or not my problem is related to the ClockworkRecovery or the phone itself? Sorry for all the questions, but I really appreciate the help.

Well you can flash an RUU to get the stock rom back, it will get rid of the recovery and you will be able to start from stock.

Thanks for the feedback, but unfortunately, I mentioned my computer doesn't recognize it because based on the research I did, flashing an RUU requires the computer to recognize the device and that didn't work, so that seems to not be an option.

You will be able to place ROM file on sd card (using a computer), insert the card into your phone and install new ROM through recovery. Be aware you might need an adapter to use micro sd card on your pc (usually they have a general size sd socket).
You might need to try installing several ROMs because we don't know which kernel has been flashed by Bell guys earlier.

OK so get yourself a micro SD card pal and stick a ROM on it. If possible find out form your sister/friend what the previous ROM was so we can all take a guess at what kernel you have on the phone and so select a ROM that will work with it straight away.
As a point of interest did the phone have an SDcard in it at the shop when it booted?
Also could you try doing the three full wipes on the phone from ClockWorkMod. These are
-Factory reset
-Clear Cache
-Advanced Options --> Wipe Dalvik
Then reboot?
regards
Sorry for this very noobish question. My concern is, i cannot go to factory reset screen... No matter what i do, how many times i restarted and remove the battery, i cannot pull up the screen. Volume down + power button only makes my phone boot in safe mode... Im preparing to root my phone so im trying every possible way to save my phone if just in case something went wrong, I just want to make sure that it'll work before i begin rooting my device, but its not working... am i missing something?

My device is LG-D855 EU/Asian 3/32gb version. Not yer rooted.
I just activated the developers option but didn't do anything or touch anything with it.
Uhm, just tried this kitkat thing when you tap 4.4 couple of times..
Used LG suit and ran back up for my device.
sorry i manage to solve my noob concern, didn't heard the "release and re-hold power button" after logo appears. should have watched the video again before posting here. wasted time composing non sense thread. xD

You have to press power and volume down, until you see the LG screen then let go and press volume and power down again.
