I just want to know is it possible to use evo 4g on another wimax network, outside usa ?
Or it's just a dream

Heh... Wimax is very popular, actually... Just not widely used by Phone carriers...
In macedonia we have wimax
Living in the greater New Orleans, LA area, the red-headed step-child to Sprint where 3G is slow, inconsistent, and 4G isn't even on the roadmap yet, I'd like to know if its possible to use my Sprint Evo's Wimax capabilities on Verizon's Wimax network, since they've had Wimax here since last year. It appears that the kind of roaming agreement between the two carriers includes phone and basic data, but not Wimax.
Any ideas?
If they had any brains they'd do a raoming agreement for that, too, getting them both much greater Wimax coverage much more quickly. But there I go again, expecting intelligence from a service provider...
Thank you for your time.

Sorry, I was made to understand that this was their Wimax. I'll take it from your response that though it may be a comparable service, it works in a different, non-compatible way.
I posted a question last week about how we could find out when we may be getting wimax in NOLA. Nobody seems to know so I am not holding my breath. Kinda sucks watching all these cities getting wimax and paying the $10 per phone every month without even a hint of when it may be coming.

Downtown NOLA has WiMax, Sprint just hasn't announced it yet. It is only in the downtown area though. I assume their probably still doing network testing or waiting for all of NOLA to be covered before they announce it to the public.
Found out about it yesterday and tried it out today. Was getting 5-6Mbps download and around 1Mbps upload earlier today. Though you won't find it on a Sprint coverage map (yet) you can see on clear.com what areas are covered in NOLA
I just moved back to Gainesville and to my surprise I now have 4G coverage where I live... Amazing!
And it's super fast... Compared to 3G at least. I also want to note that I now have full service everywhere. I think Network Vision has been started here!

It's a major part of the plan. By the end of 2013 the goal is for all Sprint towers to have LTE.

Previously there was 2 towers I knew about in Gainesville that had WiMax turned on for preliminary testing. One of these is near Shands.
Don't be fooled by the Sprint coverage maps, they don't include anything unofficial. If you want to see Sprint's 4G coverage go here: http://www.clear.com/coverage
You'll see where the towers are in Gainesville, but that coverage map is very unrealistic, but it's true. You'll get 4G somewhere in that area, but not that large of a coverage area.

I've noticed it in Phoenix... we aren't an official wimax coverage area, but there are spots around the metro valley where you can get 4G now that you couldn't before, and Clearwire has been updating their maps to reflect the added coverage over the past few months.
Who knows how long it will go on though...?
No these are real towers. There is a tower right near Shands here

This is incorrect; If you are getting a signal, your devices should be able to connect. It's more likely you just aren't getting a good signal where you are located.

Clearwire is sprints only 4G network. Sprint does not maintain its 4G network. It is 100% Clearwire.

I agree, sprint is not expanding wimax, but Clearwater is. They still have the home Internet marketing. Wimax is still faster than dsl and cheaper than cable.
Edit: clearwire(clear) not Clearwater. Stupid autocorrect.

Wimax is still expanding, but only with minor additions at Clearwire's convenience and to maintain spectrum licenses with the FCC. Its main priority to stay cash-positive and built an LTE network to supplement Sprint. Hopefully, Clearwire can find some big investors/partners to help with funding/buildout.

Yes, in order to stay an official nationwide carrier Clearwire has to cover a certain amount of people. Every year it increases. By 2013 every nationwide carrier must have a nationwide 4G network that covers a minimum amount of people

It isn't going to cripple their NV plan at all. They are building out their LTE network SEPARATE of Clear or Lightsquared. The Lightsquared deal was going to give Lightsquared towers to bounce off of. Why do you think Lightsquared was going to end up paying Sprint and not the other way around?

Where I live, the only Wimax is within 3 blocks of an official Sprint store. Imagine that. The rest of the area is covered by regular 3G with full bars but unfortunately at 1X speeds. Some days I would get better performance by turning off 3G, I never thought that was possible.
I'm currently enjoying Verizon's fine 3G with hopes that Sprint's first threatening letter will arrive soon. The local towers are do for an upgrade within 6 months, I wonder if better bandwidth or my termination notice will arrive first.

Most Sprint stores have signal boosting antennas so that there is good service as you are demoing devices. That accounts for that small radius.

Can anyone explain to me how roaming works? I thought if you were roaming you were using another carrier. Whenever I am roaming and I check my ip address using whatismyip I get a sprint ip.
The way Sprint defines their PRL is even if you are roaming with someone else for voice, it still tries to use Sprint for data. Even if you have 0-bar it will still use Sprint for data. Only if there is absolutely no Sprint signal will it try another carrier for data.
Unless it gets miraculously faster when roaming I dont see it happening

they do not ever charge you extra either. i recall reading an article on droidlife or talkandroid where sprint's official stance on the matter only concerns those who are consistently on roam. even with those customers there's no outlined "punishment", but attempts to reach out and deal with on a case by case basis. (albeit idk what they would actually do)

If you consistently roam, and more of your use is roaming instead of Sprint, you'll get a nice letter from Sprint. In the letter Sprint will inform you that they've enjoyed your loyalty, but you gotta go. (not in so many words)
Seriously, happened to me last year. They cancelled my service due to excessive roaming. And if you do move to an area that has better service (so you don't roam), you still have to wait a year before you can get Sprint service again. So watch your roaming, and if you don't have good signal, get an Airave.

ah. you are in fact correct. upon your post i was interested to look for the article i was referring to:
http://www.talkandroid.com/82385-no-sprint-wont-throttle-your-data-unless-youre-roaming/
"Sprint does have terms and conditions which prohibit certain types of data use that may impair other customers’ usage or harm or interfere with the network. At yesterday’s investor conference, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse was referring to Sprint’s right to terminate service of data abusers who violate Sprint’s terms and conditions. Customers who abuse our network by violating the terms and conditions will be contacted by Sprint in an effort to have the customer change their usage to comply with their subscriber agreement. Customers who do not change their usage and remain in violation of the terms and conditions may be subject to actions reserved by Sprint, including but not limited to termination. Consistent with our advertising, engaging in such uses will not result in throttling for customers on unlimited data-included plans for phones."

In Roam Control 2.2.0, I added a "view network status" util that will show you the name of the network you are on (sprint, verizon, etc) instead of just the system ID. It seems like every other app I've tried just shows the roaming carrier as blank/unknown.
I also put this on the market as "CDMA Network Status" for fun.

I haven't noticed until know that the SGN from Verizon shuts off 3g/lte while making calls.
Does this have something to do with ATTs contract with Google and Samsung.

OK but why did Verizon tell that me it does do calls and internet at the same time. Two customer reps told me this and one told me its in the manual. I'm going through the manual now
It's the network. Not some under the table contracted agreement.
It should be able to do voice and data anytime you have an LTE signal. On 3g you cannot though. Its a limitation of cdma.
Yeah Verizon has good towers here in California. Sh..ty service and BS like made me spill my coffee
Fine could we at least mod that out? I mean that's a load a crap
No.
Only LTE can coexist with calls.

As stated, this is a limitation of CDMA, or at least Verizon's current implementation of CDMA. Every 3G phone exhibits this behavior, as well as LTE phones when out of range of an LTE signal.

There is one exception to the rule. VZW has updated their CDMA towers to allow SVDO which is voice and data over 3G, however the phone has to have a compatible chip set for it to work. The HTC thunderbolt is the only phone I know of that does SVDO when there is no LTE signal

Welcome to CDMA. You can't do simultaneous talk and data over 3G. The only way you can do voice+data is if you're talking on 3G and doing data over LTE. If LTE drops while you're in a call, you have no data.

Okay, question here about 4G and 4GLTE, I bought an S3 as an upgrade and enjoy the phone but the 3G only sucks (until LTE rolls out here) so I switched back to my S2 which has 4G. My question is when LTE rolls out here, (been pushed back again and again) will I receive a notification so I will know to switch back, also when LTE goes live what do I have to do to my phone for it to start working on the LTE network? PRL?

I'm one of those whose testing created some of Austin's Sensorly tracks. I think there are several things going on:
1) The number of live LTE towers in Austin and Round Rock is still extremely small and the coverage is thin. Even some of the tracks I recorded, I cannot always replicate later.
2) These sites are still officially in development, so they may go offline sometimes. The tracks you see on Sensorly are not random, but reflect testing deliberately performed by geek enthusiasts to discover the unofficial LTE signals.
3) Sensorly does not record signal strength, only points where it detected any LTE at all. So these tracks may be minimal strength. And the points get extrapolated to fuzzy blobs in the Sensorly map display, which are even worse when zoomed out at all on the website. If your home is inside one of the blobs, that is an overgeneralized anomaly. But somebody probably detected LTE one time on a nearby street.
4) The GS3, even when running the latest LI3 firmware with all the fixes, still has trouble reconnecting to LTE again after it loses the signal. Sometimes I have to stop and toggle the data radio to force it to reacquire 4G.
So overall, GS3 users should not look at today's Sensorly maps of the area and expect them to describe routine LTE service yet.
p.s. If you are serious about tracking the Sprint LTE rollout, don't expect much information in this generalized forum. Go to S4GRU.com.
