Will my unlocked phone get locked after update? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

hey guys, checked multiple threads, but could not find one specifically for the s3 t999.
i have an unlocked t999, which i have rooted, and has CWM recovery.
tried a few times to do the update over OTA but that failed most probably because of the CWM recovery. then, i read on a couple of threads that if i update the firmware throug Kies, i can still do a successful update in spite of the CWM.
now, this question has just cropped into my head.
if i am successfully able to update the firmware from UVALEM to UVLH2, is there any chance that my unlocked phone would get locked? i am not in the country and with no access to the t-mobile customer care, etc.
cheers!

Where did you get the unlock code from?
I'd ask them, but you can find stuff on Google saying it should be fine if you used an unlock code

this is a factory unlocked phone. would this make a difference as compared to a code retrieved through tmo's cust care?

i have now upgraded the t999 to T999UVLH2 without locking the phone!
since i had CWM recovery, i switched over to t-mobile's stock recovery before applying the update.
now, i have lost the root, but i am following other threads to get it back and switch back to CWM recovery.
thanks!

My phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked, what to do to get updates from google?

I am a total noob when it comes to android, i did manage to unlock the bootloader , root and install cwm premium, now i want to update my phone so that i can get the updates directly from google and not from samsung, i have read a million posts and am confused as hell since some people are talking about flashing radio's and also new boitloaders? I have a canadian gsm BELL galaxy nexus can anybody guide me on the easiest way to get this done considering what i have done already?
Thanks

keep doing what you did to get where you are now. and find out you can't get updates from google. directly. now you have to do it on your own.
You could flash roms and kernals of your likings.
Rom is the firmware of the phone.
Kernal is like the main programmable engine that runs the phone. (Usually for OC and UV)
I don't recommend touching the radio though if you got your phone on bell and using it on bell network.
thanks for the help, so as for flashing the stock google firmware would i just download it and flash it using cwm's flash frim sd card option? Also is radio's something that the carrier usually updates or is it something thats there for the life of the phone unless you flash it with something new? Last question is by flashing the stock google firneware does it do anything to radio's or does it stay at stock? Thanks for all the help.

Flash the latest google official update: click me.
f.
If you want actual OTA updates from Google, you cannot have CWM. And unless you are doing custom ROMs, I fail to see why you need CWM in the first place.
IMO just stick to stock recovery (flash it back if you already have CWM). Fastboot + adb will take you a long way, should you need to do some low-level work.
Only drawback is that you will need to reroot once you get your OTA updates.

[Q] Unbrick GN2 (Firmware upgrade encountered an issue)

Before you guys read this thread, let me just go ahead and say that i AM in fact a XDA noob... so dont hate. I didnt come here for that, but i came for help. Now, i did notice that there were alot of people having similar problems as i was. And yes, i did read all those threads. BUT, the only difference was, they got that error while trying to unroot. I was trying to root mine. I simply tried flashing CWM (and yes i made sure it was the correct flash as well) and it failed. Tried rebooting the phone, and i got that error. I am honestly freaking out right now as to if i have lost my phone or not, so i wouldnt appreciate hate in the comments, that would not help. So please help if possible... Is there a way to fix this?
We're you on stock Rom. How did you try a put CWM on your phone?? Odin??
Best way to install a recovery is Odin or goo manger!!
If you can get the phone into download mode then you can just flash back to your stock firmware...
Unless you flashed the wrong recovery on your phone. Then your in store for brick city.

thanks, i was actually on odin. But i think i found the solution. You see, when i was trying to find a solution on my own, i accidentally ended up installing a verizon rom on my phone which is att. (i didnt know it was verizon) The rom works, but i cant use mobile data, because its not a verizon SIM card. However, i managed to install TWRP recovery with goomanager, and from that i will attempt to install the JediXP14 custom rom. Strangely, it seems the phone is rooted even though i was told it failed. I will let you know on the progress, should be done in an hour or so.
Oh boy..... I smell brick city.. You better be careful what ur doing with Odin... If u are flashing stock firmware in Odin it flashes the radio with it....
Ok guys, i SOMEWHAT resolved the issue. But there are alot better ways of doing it, i was just forced to do it the following way:
The only flash rom i could get to go in through odin was a Verizon rom. It was basically the stock Note 2 rom for verizon.
Now the only problem with this, is that obviously, my phone is ATT and this is a Verizon rom, but it WILL work, but with an exception. Wifi and all will work, you can call and receive messages, but you cannot access the internet via mobile data. So that was another issue that popped up. I tried flashing an att stock rom through odin, but it stayed stuck at "Setup Connection" so that didnt work. The only solution i could think of was to unlock the rom, so i could use data with my ATT sim card. Strangely, the phone thought that it was a Verizon phone when it was an ATT phone, so that was the only option. It required a root but that wasnt a problem. I installed Hidroid off the play store and unlocked it that way, and now everything works fine. There is still an error message in the status bar saying "Non-Verizon SIM" but despite that message, everything still is in working order. If anyone knows what to do once you first get that error message, you could post it below for anyone else having the same problem. And if there is a way to change it back to the normal ATT stock, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks

Maybe you just need to flash att modem with ril for your device. Scroll down and dload the one for att then flash using cwm or twrp. After flashing modem try flashing att rom again via Odin.

Ok guys I resolved the problem. But it took more steps than it needed. This is for people who accidentally flashed the wrong type of recovery to your phone (example, gt-1700 version of cm what on sgh-I317) I'll be renaming this thread if I can. So here's all the steps I took. Now keep in mind that I didn't exactly know what I was doing so I kind of learned on the way, like I said in the beginning of this thread, I am a noob, and I admit such.
1. Install any rom that is in md5 format (preferably with your carrier modem but anything will do) I used a verizon rom. I can't exactly provide a link given my user status though, but I will when I can.
2. If you don't have wifi and downloaded rom under incorrect modem, then download hidroid on the play store and unlock it. It should be simple once getting the app. This will allow you to use mobile data. You'll need it.
3. Download goomanager
4. Press menu button
5. Install open recovery script
Now you should have TWRP installed on your device.
6. Install any custom rom compatible with your device, but make sure it comes with the correct modem as your phone originally had.
7. Flash it through TWRP (make a backup first)
You should be done from there. Now I don't recommend this. There has to be an easier way, so it would be great if anyone could provide that below. But the steps above are the steps I took. Thanks

Easiest is flash att rom thru odin then reboot into recovery factory reset then let phone boot up.

U need to be on stock 4.1.1 for it to work. Once it's done, it's supposed to be permanent...
I should've been more clear.
I have unlocked the phone. Im on Android 4.0.4....to do so i had to roll back the modem firmware. Everything is good. But now that its unlocked can i still change modem firmware and remain unlocked or will it get locked again..
You can flash whatever you want. The unlock is permanent and persists through flashing of different ROMs.

[Q] Huge Mistake!

I hope i didnt just turn my phone into a paper weight.
I was following through doing everying in order to root my phone and didnt realize one thing until it was too late.
when the phone restarted a "verizon 4glte" screen splashed on the phone and it stuck that way. The problem is my phone is from sprint. Is there any way I can get it back to normal? I really have no idea how I missed that.
I think i downloaded the correct tar file or whatever file i need for the stock sprint setup, but i keep getting an error when installing it through odin.
how can i go back to my stock SPRINT rom without having to wipe everything?
pleeeaaaase help. much appreciated.
Download twrp odin file to get that recovery then download any rom zip and flash

Thankfully there's a fix. You'll need to bypass the activation screen to enable usb debugging quickly before the nag screen appears. When the nag screen appears you'll need to reset the device and start over (after the nag screen is shown once it'll come back quicker next times). Once usb debugging is enabled you need to unlock the bootloader and then you'll be able to flash the L900 firmware. This method may be a bit dated as I used it on 4.1.2 (on an R950 but the L900 will be the same.)

i dropped the phone off at a cell phone shop to get it fixed and they couldnt figure it out.
i did a little digging and found this out. the file i installed to mess up the phone was this:
root66_VZW_stock_system.tar
so my phone is running a rooted verizon os, i didnt know that.
if it helps, it says im running build number i605vraljb and android version 4.1.1
so i have super user access and debugging is enabled, now what?
so i'm guessing bootloader is already unlocked?
honestly, anyone that gives me info that actually gets my phone working will not only get a thanks but $50 through paypal. im dead serious.

Power down your phone. Hold power home and vol down at the same time to get to download mode. Using Odin on PC flash the file found her http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591898. That's up to date stock for your phone. If you still want root Google "kingo root" and use that to root

EVER ONE RE READ THE OP. HE CANNOT JUST ODIN BACK TO A SPRINT ROM. THE BOOTLOADER IS A VZW ONE AND ITS LOCKED.
Now that's out the way...read up on Adam Outlers CASUAL bootloader unlock for the VZW note 2. Follow his process and after your bootloader is unlocked you'll be able to flash the appropriate L900 tarball.

you accidentally installed a Verizon rom. You however DID NOT install a Verizon bootloader. Odin would not allow it. Thank God casual failed otherwise you'd be hard bricked. Ensure you have a custom recovery. Then wipe and flash my mc2 zip from here and you'll be straight again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
Are you sure? Someone brought in a soft bricked R950 (I know...different model but as long as it's not on 4.3 I doubt it'd matter for this situation) with ALL VZW firmware on it. Bootloader and all. I had to run CASUAL to unlock the bootloader to accept the R950 USCC firmware. Without CASUAL it kept failing in Odin (to preserve the VZW Note II firmware).
Guess I shouldve done more digging to see exactly what the OP did before pointing straight to a locked bootloader. I'm pretty sure that's the case though...I don't see any other reason for a MD5 tarball to fail. I don't think that particular VZW firmware build has secureboot.

Given I747 has 4.1.2 but downloading something

Hey all, have the above mentioned phone, been wiped clean and factory reset, SD card blank. But when connected to internet it starts downloading an update from Att. Now I want to root, from what I've read bootloader is unlocked, and then twrp and ROM etc. Should I take the update then root or better to root and do incremental updates then ROM. Tremendous amount of info here and am still a little unsure which way to go. Thanks

The bootloader will remain unlocked regardless of whether you do or do not take the OTA updates.
If the phone is not sim unlocked and it is still running 4.1.2, downgrade the phone to 4.1.1 using the stock ROM from sammobile.com and use the free method to sim unlock before flashing or updating.

Looking to run carbon ROM d2lte 4.4.4 that I have saved. Also will update twrp to latest too. Bootloader still be unlocked right? Sorry been on Verizon so don't want to screw up.

All versions of the i747 bootloader are unlocked.
So I can jump straight to njb from lk3 and then to ne4 using the files I downloaded. One place said to go one by one. You know I forgot to check the dates of the posts. Thanks for your help.
