[Hardware] What's broken? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
What part needs replacing when my power and volume increase/decrease button doesn't work. I'm thinking its this "HTC Desire HD Motherboard Flex Cable"(Google it because i'm not allowed to post links as new user) part that is broken.
I would like your input on the problem.
Full Regards.

Not sure aboot the power button but the volume button is controlled by part of the motherboard.

[Q] XDA IIs power button ways

Hello, so I have old blue angel device (XDA IIs) and power button broke(it's not on the plate). I have soldered button from nokia, but button doesn't seem to work.(button physicaly is ok) 2 tracks on the pcb are broken(2 last ones) if someone has schematics, or knows power button ways, maybe you can give me a photo with them? in the worst case I think photo of pcb where's power button, and other side in macro mode(HQ) would be enough.
UPDATE: Thanks for help everyone(sarcasm). Managed to repair myself.

[Q] Help! Vol - button broken & stuck in bootloop

The Volume- button has been broken on my Desire HD for ages, but this has never been a major issue until today: I got stuck in a bootloop and I don't know how to get into recovery mode!
Please does anyone have any suggestions either on how to get the vol- key to work or on alternative ways to get to recovery? I tried "adb reboot recovery" in cmd.exe but I get error: device not found.
I am worried my phone is broken and I can't afford a new one, so I would be infinitely grateful if someone could give me a hand!
EDIT: I managed to temporarily fix the issue by pulling off the volume rocker and strongly pushing on the button underneath with a pin, but I would still like to know if there is a way to change the key combo that allows to boot into recovery (as my temporary fix might not work next time).
In short yes, I encountered this during a re flash where it said, menu or back disabled.
There is a way just can't recall what I read on here about an alternate button setup.
Running cmw for recovery + version?

So you used another recovery?
I am using cwm 5.0.2.0 (not touch)

If the physical button on the ribbon cable is still good...take out your battery, remove the s/n etc sticker carefully-all the way, you'll see a ribbon cable under it about 1/4 inches wide leading to the vol button-use a small plastic twezzer or the like and gently lift the cable and volumn button strip up and out of the slot-it is not fixed in place. Now you can put your battery back in and use the vol buttons with your fingernail. Awkward but for a one time fix in an emergency-it will work. When fixed put it all back--maybe once out you will see the real issue with your volumn not working. Maybe the strip got out of it's position some way.. Of course if the physical buttons are damaged or the ribbon cable is ripped, this will not work.
Hello,
I didn' use the vol buttom in my revocery, install 4ext revocery and than you can with a spedified application start in recocery mod (rom manager for exemple).
I have the same problem with the volume keys. I can't boot into recovery without using ROM Manager... Is there another way?

This worked for me when I had a similar issue. Got it repaired though as I was under warranty (had to convince the repair folks that it had stock though )

Volume button stuck pressing down, help

The problem is basically the down volume button broke so I replaced the entire volume piece, but I have the problem where the down button is constantly being pressed even when no actual physical button is present, so my phone is constantly lowering its volume when I am on the phone etc.
Is there any way to fix this?
If not is there any way for me to completely destroy the audio button to at least stop it adjusting itself!
If you replace that part did you place that volume plastic button right way. If it wrong way it may push switch down all time. Or maybe hardware failure in switch?
Or replace another one. Maybe that plastic vol button is pressing the switch all time. Try take off that plastic vol button part and then what happend? You can press buttons by your nails or something.
Yeh the problem is though even with no button it still keeps lowering the volume as if the button is being pressed so I don't know what the problem is, I'd gladly disable all volume control instead if thats possible.
if its the mainboard thats faulty that's an expensive part to replace :\

[Q] Sensitive Power button and reboot problems

My S3 started randomly rebooting yesterday. The power button also because super sensitive. Just a light brush would cause the phone to register a press.
I edited my .kl files and disabled the power button and remapped it to the volume down button. I haven't had as many problems as I did yesterday but now it shuts down when I plug in the usb cord and it did shut down one more time when I picked it up off my desk.
I thought it was a faulty power button that was causing my phone to reboot but now I'm not so sure. Remapping seems to have helped a little though.
The files I edited were sec_keys.kl and sec_powerkey.kl. For both I disabled key 116 POWER WAKE and remapped it to key 114 which is the volume down key.
Any ideas on how to fix this completely? Is there another power setting I'm missing? I'm 3 months from my upgrade and don't really want to spend cash on this thing.
The power button is a somewhat common issue. Look at some disassembly videos. Maybe you can find a way rig it or replace it. The parts are pretty cheap if youre willing to attempt it.

I think I have mostly solved my issues. I pulled out the power button and I haven't had a problem since. Between that , the remapped power key and the Auto Screen On app I think I can make it till upgrade time.

home button and capacitive buttons malfunction

Hey guys
I got the middle housing of my note 2 replaced and then I noticed that the home key (physical) and menu key (capacitive) are doing the same function... they both are functioning as a menu key. And I have no key that functions as a menu key.
The home key is also giving a haptic feedback on pressing which it never used to give before.
I must have damaged something while removing the middle frame.
Any ideas guys?

do you have settings in ROM to test or assign physical buttons?
the only thing I could think of is flex cable, but there is very small chance that 2 buttons are parallel after disassembling. You can re set the flex cable to mainboard
Hi. Thanks for your reply
Yes, im using xposed additions module to re map keys.
The capacitive menu and physical home key both register as "menu" in xposed additions. So im using single tap for home and double tap for recents.
I didnt understand what u mean by reset flex cable to mainboard? Please elaborate.
The repair guy thinks the flex cable is damaged but he says i should be ready for a broken glass while he tries to replace the flex cable. Im not ready for that
@pestycyd what do you mean by parallel? How to check and fix?
