FIXED: The only thing I could not do was try a computer with a different operating system. Finally got to a friends Windows 7 32 bit and it worked on the first go. Thanks for the replies.
Hello Everyone,
I know there have been a few other threads very similar to this but I have tried everything and can't seem to get over the hump. I am an amateur at this but I was having trouble with my battery and reception so I wanted to try a different modem. During the Odin flash, the connection was interrupted. Now when I try to power it up it shows the computer to phone looking picture. I can access download mode but can't seem to get it through the process.
Please help. I have been trying all day to get ANYTHING back on there!
Try a differnt usb and redownload the tar

Don't worry its not bricked, almost impossible. I've gotten the screen that you're talking about. Take off the battery and put it back on. The try going into download mode. Some times it takes more than once. Then try flashing with odin whatever modem you needed. 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies. I've tried over and over again. I have literally been going at it all day and I need to have it for tomorrow. I'm really not sure why it won't budge.
Is there any other methods of flashing ROMs through download mode??/
Did you try reinstalling the drivers? A different port? Different cable? Different computer? Another download of the rom?
I have tried all of that. Unless I find something else to try my next step will be trying a different computer with a different operating system than Win 7 and try a different cord because I have been using two Samsung cable from different phones.
Take out the battery and leave it out. Plug in USB and go into dl mode.

That's probably the issue. Never, never use the stock samsung cord for flashing. It's worthless for anything but charging.
Glad to see you got it fixed Ala! Sorry I was stuck at work all day and no help. I TOLD you to wait til I got home. I imagine you'll be gung ho to do it all on your own now that you've managed your way through that nightmare!
I just bought my tmo s2 from craigslist and everything works fine except my computer will not pick up my phone in no other mode than just charge. I have installed all the samsung drivers (im not new to samsung i have owned many samsung phones) and also kies but when i connect my phone my computer just tells me "Unrecognized Device". I need help i dont want to be stuck on a stock phone. I dont know if flashing another rom will fix the problem with my phone. I beleive that the problem has to do with maybe a bad flash from the previous owner. Please Help!! I NEED EXPERT HELP!

Does your phone detect that it's connected to a computer? (A USB symbol should show up in your notification bar when it is)
When you plug in the phone do 2 disk drives show up in "My Computer" on your comp?
yeah if you arent getting the usb symbol like the person above me described it could possibly be a hardware problem

This is a known issue with this device. I bought mine from T-Mobile and the USB went out about two months after without any rough handling or damage to the phone.
If you've double checked the drivers you have installed there are a few other options you can try.
First, try switching cables. Whether you're using the one that came with your phone, or another, just try switching them out.
Switch computers. Sometimes a different computer will cause the device to attempt to install the drivers, thereby "waking up" the USB option.
Try dialing *#7284# A menu will (should) open. Under USB there will be two choices: modem and PDA. If modem is chosen click PDA, if PDA is ticked, then tick modem and then tick PDA again. You can either hit home or back out of the menu.
You can try the toothbrush, or a can of compressed air (like what you clean your keyboard with).
Others have had success with these things, unfortunately I did not. I eventually had mine replaced under warranty. I understand you may not have that option if these fixes don't work for you. I wonder if Samsung might be able to offer you a different, or discounted, solution?
Good luck.
Also, forgot to add you can try switching back and forth between USB debugging.

I know it is not a fix, but if you learn to use ADB and use wireless ADB on your phone and an app like Android commander, you can copy files to your phone ...
Or there are Wi-Fi file apps that actually run a web server on your phone that let's you copy files ...
Might get you by until you can part with it to get it fixed ...
Or there is the 'ol get an adapter for the sd card, and copy files that way ..
Just some suggestions ...
But Yeah should have that fixed ......
Also , have you tried forcing the drivers to install on the "Unrecognized Device"? Sometimes windows gets stubborn and once unrecognized it never will be until you force the drivers ....
Hey there...
So, I just got a Galaxy S3 i747, but I'm using it in Costa Rica (it's already unlocked). I connected to the computer and it's not recognized. I have installed twice Samsung Drivers, but nothing. It's not recognized by the computer and neither by Kies. I've tried 2 different USB cables (I don't have more) and 3 computers, and nothing. I Reset Data from cell, but didn't help. I don't have a external SD installed. I even turn the phone off, took out the battery about 60 seconds, but that didn't make it work. I also tried USB ports from the back, but no luck.
If I tried this 2 USB cables and the 3 computers using a Galaxy S2, it's recognized every time, so it's something about this phone. What else can I do? I'll appreciate any help or tip.
Thanks.

I reported a similar problem with my phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36602425&postcount=1681
If your phone is messed up like my old one was to the point where it shows up as "Device Not Recognized", your only course of action is to warranty the phone because recovery through Kies Air is not possible and at this point you cannot connect to any computer to fix the problem. I believe it to be a non-repairable software issue.

If you don't know where it is, you probably don't have it enabled. And you need a custom ROM as well to have it.
All right.

I'm curious if its a hardware issue or something else. I've restored a backup i had to see if that helped but nothing. If i return to stock unrooted will that help? Or does someone have an idea as to why and how to fix this? Thanks for any help.
No idea. I did some searches for something like "android stuck usb charge only" and came up with the below. Some folks said that they were able to fix it, though not permanently, by wiping. The above seemed to work for some, though again, not permanently. I wasn't able to find anything else.
Did you try connecting to other PC's?
Did you try removing the device from your PC's device manager, uninstall the driver, then reinstall the driver and reconnect?
I agree it seems hardware'ish because it's also a problem with the MHL cord, too. I wish I could help more, but there's not much out there about being stuck in charge only mode.
Are you still under Manufacterer's warranty? Maybe that can be returned because it won't mount.?

Dont have another PC so that option cant be tested now. I removed the device and unistalled/reinstalled drivers and nothing.
Warranty is not an option because its past due. I do have insurance but am afraid of not getting an OG in return and i dont know how all that works to be honest.
I am willing to return to stock but only one concern i have is losing all my data. How do i backup pics and documents without being able to connect to pc? PLEASE can someone show me the way. Thanks again for all responses.

Have you tried different drivers yet? There's 3 of them here.

Let's hope this'll work for you.

I started having this problem after installing the latest LG drivers. Replicated the issue on 3 different Windows 7 PCs. 1 32-bit home-built, 1 64-bit Gateway laptop with OEM image, 1 64-bit HP Laptop with work image.
Before upgrading, phone connects fine with in both MTP & PTP modes just using built-in (or pulled from WU) drivers. After upgrading to LG drivers, PC no longer detects the phone. Uninstalling the drivers or going backwards to earlier versions does not fix the problem.
Again, thanks to everyone for their responses, I really appreciate it. But unfortunately nothing seems to be helping my issue. I'm going by my wife's job to hook up to her computer to see if hers can recognize my phone, well at least I hope.
One thing I ask of someone, I've been using Arliberator to connect to my radio. Maybe someone has more knowledge than me to help.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5reWxlLmFybGliZXJhdG9yIl0.
Anyways, it has an option under settings to "fix drivers" which I have no idea what it does so i never messed with it. Except for when it wouldnt connect to the radio, I pressed it. Could that have anything to do with it not connecting to pc? I've emailed the dev of this app but have gotten no response as to what it does.
I'm really at a loss here as I can still use my phone but not to its full potential. Its frustrating because I cant even return to stock to see if it will fix my issue. Is there any other way to return to stock without a pc? Like can i flash a stock RUU? I ask because I once had an Evo 4g and was able to do it that way.
Again, thanks to everyone's responses.
I finally heard from the dev of ARLiberator and he guarantees me his app has nothing to do with my phone and that the "fix drivers" is for the app only. He says to try and reset my phone to try and solve my issue. But wouldn't that completely erase my phone?
Idk how I got here...

My Phone
Hi, Uber-noob here. I have the sprint samsung gs3, Model number sph-l710, android version 4.1.2. I had stock rooted my phone via QBKing77's video (thanks man!) and had had no problems, including connecting my phone by USB (PDA net, Odin, etc.) to my PCs.
My Problem
For no reason I can see, my laptop(s) stopped recognizing my phone. There is no message, the pc acts as though nothing was plugged in, no message. Device manager shows nothing either. The ONLY sign that my phone was plugged in at all is the "battery charging" icon on my phone.
What I've Done
I use a good data cable that used to work, and have bought and tried a new one. I have tried 2 other computers. I have reinstalled the USB drivers. I have pulled the battery from my phone, waited, and put it back in. I just did a factory reset. Nothing has changed.
I hope someone here can help me figure this out, cause I'm stumped. Please let me know if I can provide any more info. Thanks!

I would still try another cable because I've cables quit working out of the blue before. Also, it may help if you go to device manager and uninstall/remove your USB hub and then restart your computer...it will automatically detect and reinstall it.
I would try with a linux livecd/liveusb to rule out a driver issue. Also try a different cable. Or make sure your cable works - try with another device or computer.
And there really should be no need for extradrivers if you plug it in a mass storage mode. At least my two phones work with Win7, Ubuntu and Crunchbang otb.

That was a good idea! But it didn't work unfortunately. I'm starting to think that I may have a bad micro USB port in my phone. But the phone charges just fine, so I dunno. I hope you have more ideas? Thanks a lot dor the advice!
Yeah could be one of the pins in the port is messed up. Would explain why it charges, but no data connection.
I swear I tried every suggested solution out there – uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Rebooting in download mode and trying to get phone and PC top lay nice. I accessed all those hidden settings and poked around with the settings. Three hours of tooling around the web looking for solutions and I got nowhere. Then I came across some obscure site where somebody suggested the pins might be off. With the care of a surgeon, I slipped the tip of a knife into my phone's USB port and nudged it every so slightly. Plugged and in and there was that elusive USB symbol, offering up all those grand options. I would've bet anything that this was some complex driver issue, but no. It was a slightly bent pin in that tiny opening at the bottom of my SIII. I'm not sure if I should be elated or annoyed at all the time wasted. I hope you guys find your own solutions, whatever they prove to be. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
