I recently bought a used Samsung Galaxy S2X and it was already rooted running DarkSide's ROM. I didn't see this when i bought it but I can't seem to turn the phone off or boot into recovery mode. Whenever i hold the power button, the power menu comes up, i press power off, and then it says your phone will shut down, i press okay, the samsung galaxy boot image comes up and then the screen turns black and the soft keys stay lit...After that i can't do anything, the only thing i can do is take the battery out and put it back in to turn the phone off again.
I thought this was a ROM problem, but i can't even boot into recovery :S it does the same thing. If anyone knows what's going on, please help me out. I'm sort of panicking.
....
Never mind, i fixed it after playing around with it. Thanks, the mods can now close this thread

Hi, I own a Galaxy S2 SGH T989 and I wanted to get the H1ve theme, so of course, I got miui. Right after I flashed it, I kept getting complaints about applications crashing, as well as the ics keyboard. Now, my phone won't even turn on. I've tried all ways I know to reboot (power button, volume and power, battery out and in, and all of that in the charger) and nothing works. Does anyone out there know how to turn on the phone. I just want to be able to factory reset on it. Also, when I try to enter download mode, the computer makes weird sounds at regular intervals while I hold down the phone keys.
ODIN flash back to stock. Make sure you have a battery while you're going into Download mode.
Are you doing the correct key combos for dl mode, vol down and power for 3 seconds then release the power button and keep holding vol down

After my phone fell, I popped the battery back in and started it, it started fine, but then I turned on Bluetooth and it immediately restarted, after it restarted it was fine, but then it wanted to turn Bluetooth on again and then it restarted, and it did that again and again.
I also couldn't turn off Bluetooth because it is already turned off, but the phone wants to turn it back on and in that second (the Bluetooth logo shows in the notification bar for a second) it restarts once again.
So if there is anything I can do to disable Bluetooth, I would love it but I don't think there is.
So I want to do a hard-reset because I don't have time to do anything when the phone starts. So I pressed the two volume buttons and the power button, it shows a screen, I choose recovery mode using the volume buttons, and then after I press on the power button to choose it, it shows a dead Android with a red rectangle and an exclamation mark in it, after a while it reboots again, and nothing happens.
I'm running Jelly bean 4.1, non-rooted, on a GSM/Unlocked Galaxy Nexus.
I recently bought this phone and I feel miserable, please help me.

In stock recovery there is a key combination that needs to be pressed to get to get to the options (e.g. Factory Reset)
What is this key combination, I pressed all of the keys to go into the 'boot menu' and after chose recovery mode using the power button. Is there anything else I should do
Select recovery then after u see the droid screen.. Press and hold power then hit the vol up key and release

I honestly don't remember. Once in recovery you have to press a specific combination (maybe volume up + power OR volume down +power) to get to the options menu in stock recovery (dead Android with a red rectangle and an exclamation mark).
:Edit: what LiquidXed said :cyclops:
I managed to get there. do i select wipe data / factory reset
too late, I already did it
Really?

So your making fun of me (I guess), great profile picture by the way.
It worked i'm back inside my phone, but do I dare turn on Bluetooth !!!!
Test it. Then you'll know if the problem was hardware or software.

OK so I felt my phone continuously vibrating in my pocket, so I held the power button because that usually makes it stop vibrating and start powering up. However, this time it just keeps vibrating. So I took the battery out and when I put it back in, the phone automatically turned on and the Samsung logo came on the screen. But before it could get to the cynanogenmod logo on the screen the phone shuts down and keeps on vibrating. It won't go into download or recovery mode without shouting off or vibrating. And more recently it won't go into the modes at all. But like three strange things are happening. 1. It will start up, show the Samsung logo, and then the cynanogenmod logo but will get stuck on the cynanogenmod logo and will go back to vibrating. 2. I got it to completely start up, I could see the home screen and everything but then the phone froze, turned off, and started vibrating. 3. I decided to try and charge it because it stop vibrating and I thought it was dead. And when I hooked it up, it showed the screen with the battery loading. But only for 30 seconds at the most.
So I was wondering is there anyway I can fix this?
Ok so if this were to happen to me i would kill the battery, plug chatter into computer, take out battery ands put back in plug phone into charger and hold volume up and down button and see if you can get into download mode. Iff you can then just use Odin to stock the phone. Off not then idk what to say.

Thanks for replying but I can't get into download or recovery mode.
Sounds awfully similar with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783404
If your power button is having issues, it can be repaired. So you are not soft or hard bricked. It is just a faulty button. Some people managed to unstuck the button with a small screwdriver.
Sounds like your power button is stuck, there was a thread about this issue and I think a fix, do a quick search on power button sticking.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I've tried wiggling the power button around and it doesn't work.
Thanks guys, I'll search around. But I'm starting to give up hope because I've messed with the power button and it doesn't seem to be stuck. But really thank you.
It's the actual switch on the logic board, it needs to be replaced. Cheers
Hi guys,
I updated to JB on my rooted S3 when it first came out a couple months ago. Everything was fine until a few days ago, when all of a sudden it turned off on its own. Since then the phone won't power on, it seems to always restart itself at the Samsung boot screen. I tried to do a factory reset, but the phone still restarts itself. Tried to put into download mode, no go either. Any idea on what I could do to fix it?
Thanks!
So I'm trying to mess with the phone again. I insert the battery and press the on button. The Samsung logo briefly flashes then the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen shows up. Then no response after that. The blue/purple Samsung logo used to show up and freeze, but now it doesn't even get to that point. As I try to power up again, there's no response until I take out/put in the battery again
If you are getting to a boot screen, it is only a soft brick. Do you know how to put your phone back onto stock rom?
To get into download mode
1. pull the battery, put it back.
2.hold power volume down and home key at the same time.
3.when your phone vibrates, let go of the power button.
4.when a screen comes up, let go of all buttons.

I tried that. But the phone just restarts itself as soon as the screen come up
Press the up botton to get into the download screen. You are holding the home and down too long. Release it right before you see the screen and press volume up to get to download mode.

If you still have a screen, it means you will be able to get to dl mode. Look it up to make sure you are doing it properly.

So I rooted my Lg G2 just fine, I've done jailbreaks and such in the past and consider myself tech savvy. However after trying to install a custom ROM on my phone, I got these white lines to where I couldn't see my screen. I found a fix for it and tried to conquer that myself as well. As I proceeded to flash a jdi kernel onto my G2 to get rid of the white lines and lack of display, I got an error and put myself into a boot problem. When I turn my phone on, I get a secure booting error everytime and my screen goes black. I have tried countless times to use the hard reset feature but I cannot get the it to come up with pressing with volume down and power buttons. I can't get into download mode either. My screen goes black within seconds and just sits there. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE.
Please.
I really need any sort of help or direction. I've tried everything I can think of.
How did you try to go into download mode?

Greetings, here's what I did, I booted my phone into download mode by pressing and holding the volume up button, and quickly plugging the usb cable into my phone(make sure it's connected to the computer), wait until the device is charged at 100%(you will know it's fully charged when you see something like this "B100", turn off your phone and hold the power button and volume down button at the same time until you see the LG Logo, once you've seen the LG Logo, QUICKLY press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time adain, and you should boot into recovery mode.[emoji4]
If you made a backup of your previous Rom, you can now restore it.[emoji106]
