On my new Galaxy S 2 the soft keys are not turning off completly, they are staying on, even when the phone is sleeping the keys are dim. What can this be?
So apparently no one else has this problem or a solution for it. Am i out of luck?
When you go into the touch key light duration setting in the display settings, what does it say? If it's at like 6 seconds but still stays on forever then something is wrong. Try a factory reset. Failing that, warranty exchange fo sho.
Related side note - when I use Netflix, my soft keys stay lit up the whole time. There is no words that can illustrate the frustration and annoyance at this little "feature". It's bright as **** in a dark room trying to watch a show.

But what's happening is that when the screen is on the touch keys work as they should, but when the screen turns off the touch keys remain turned on in like a dim state. Very wired!
My HOX capacitive button backlight is not uniform. The top right and bottom left corner of my multitasking and home button are brighter than the rest of the icon. Is this normal?
I think it's normal. I never noticed, but it seems the same for me as well.
Any way, I am looking for a mod to completely disable the lights on the soft buttons.

Mime seems uniform, it may just depend on how the plastic was milled.
MY question would be, can you turn the buttons off, in video playback? It is very annoying at night.

It has something to do with tweaks. On my old DHD I had that, using RCMix tweaks. Anyway if you're playing a video from storage try mobo player, it will automatically turn off the button's light.

I found out a way to temporarily disable back light on the soft keys on my non-rooted HOX. It kind of works most of the times and is active until you lock the device.
First, download "Screen filter" from the Play store
Activate the screen filter to your liking, I recommend putting a widget on your home screen and un-tick the "enable soft-key backlight"
Now comes the extremely unscientific trick to get the soft key to be turned off, press the power key on your device to lock and unlock your device until it "forgets" to turn on the soft key back light!
I do this almost every night and usually works after 3 or 4 tries.
Maybe there is a better solution out there for the people who have not rooted their device?

Edit: my bad didn't notice the not rooted part
I think there is? Adjbrightness or how it's called, but it needs root. Or you can just shut the backlight completely like I did with an easy framework change.

There's another dirty trick. Press and hold your power button, till the capacitive buttons start to blink, when they are off, during the blinking process, release the power button, this will turn them off

You mean it vibrated when the capactive buttons (home, menu...) were pressed?
No it used to vibrate when i pressed the screen with significant pressure... At first i thought it was a pressure sensor type of thing...

well then something was terribly wrong with it in the first place... It isn't supposed to do that.
My guess is that something is loose inside and causing a short.
Could someone tell where the vibrator is so i can look into it..

My softbuttons have never lit up
I assume you're referring to the multitask and back buttons, yes they light up, every time I touch the screen (when not typing).

Thanks, but why wouldn't my buttons be lit at all?
And that app did not light my buttons even when I set it to always on.

Unless you did something to break it (you might try wiping), you might have a defective phone.
They are turned off during power saving mode. Is that turned on?

Thank you for the info. That's what it was. Power saving mode.
