I'm not sure if this is something I've just blatantly over looked on all my android devices (shsme on me if so) but is there a way to see if my sd card is fat32 or exfat without having to connect it to my pc to check? thanks for any help.

i always thought it could only read fat32, so my guess is it has to be fat32
i can assure you that "only fat32 is pretty far off, as im pretty sure ive had ext2,3 and 4 amongst a few other types. but thanks for trying

some recoveries have an option that lets you view all the different file systems on your phone and sd card. see if your recovery supports that.
maybe i just didn't realise that i may have seen it in clockwork...does anyone know of a recovery that specifically has this function/ability?

Ext4 does but we don't have support yet...
Do it on your pc if you have an sdcard reader.

my pc croaked last week. that's why I'm trying so hard this way...now when u say "ext4 does" are you meaning that there is a new custom recovery named ext4 just like the format type? or do you mean something else?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There is a custom recovery called ext4 that allows you to see what format your sd card is. Not for the gs3 yet.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
It's actually called "4ext recovery", should've mentioned that

Im getting my phone tomorrow but I was reading that the phone diesnt come with a sd card and that it is partitioned for 2 gb of app storage. Then there is 11 gb available for pics, videos, and music. Is this true? Im used to these going on the sd card
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes its true. SD slot is empty and your numbers for internals are correct
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yes, you can put what ever you want on it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I'm sure it won't be long before we have the ability to set our own internal app storage partitions.

I'm having the same issue. I guest that's why I'm scared to put my new SD card in my phone. The SD card that I had before I was getting an error message saying that SD card is now damaged.

Use SDCARD format utility for the card and format it fat32

I've had this problem with ics before just wondering how to fix it:
When I use a2sdgui or terminal emulator for a2sd it says it can't find a2sd. Don't know what to do. Please help. Doesn't ics accept ext 4?
Sent from my HTC_Pyramid using xda app-developers app
I would check the OP for whatever ROM you're using and make sure that Ext. 4 is supported. It can vary from one ROM to the next. What did you use to partition your SD card?
Also, I noticed in your sig that you're using the Pyramid. Are you asking regarding that phone or the EVO?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I'm actually using Halo v1.0 it spoofs HTC pyramid. I partitioned the SD card using smelkus mod. 2 to 3, 3 to 4. The OP just says that it accepts ext partitions. I guess that means all. It says a2sd via Gemini but I would rather use dark tremors. It doesn't specifically say its baked in.

Go to jmztaylors cm9 or cm10 thread, flash the a2sd patch posted in those threads and voila
When my kids ask me,"Dad, what does this word mean?" I say bring me a dictionary.......then I smack them with it, and tell them to Google that sh¡t!!!
Oh man how do I always miss these things. I would lose my head if it wasn't screwed on.

I just got a note 2 and cant move any apps to my SD card... ive searched everywhere and cant find anything. Any suggestions?
I don't believe it's possible to do that anymore, unless you make it to where the phone reads the external as the internal.
You need root I think
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Ive rooted and am using a custom rom and there i still cant find a way to do it.

You'll need to use our external path as it's different from the S3.
So would all the commands be the same for the paths or would I have to change them?

You asked this in the other thread you posted. Short answer.....No you dont need an ext sdcard. Read my post in your other thread.

Okay thank you.

No external SD card is needed for root. However if you plan on installing custom ROMS you will need an SD card for backups etc.
