Question about epic touch - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Im getting my phone tomorrow but I was reading that the phone diesnt come with a sd card and that it is partitioned for 2 gb of app storage. Then there is 11 gb available for pics, videos, and music. Is this true? Im used to these going on the sd card

Yes its true. SD slot is empty and your numbers for internals are correct

Yes, you can put what ever you want on it.

I'm sure it won't be long before we have the ability to set our own internal app storage partitions.

Keep Safe application storage

I have a question on where this app "hides" my pictures.
I had it on my old phone, I moved to a e4gt and now it can't find them. I'm guessing it's looking at internal SD instead of external.
Anyone know where I can find them?
if i remember correctly it just puts them on sd but instead of sdcard/keepsafe it does sdcard/.keepsafe and that's what keeps it out the gallery....i think

Does memory run faster off internal memory or sd card?

I just wanted to know because i'm playing modern combat 3 off the internal memory and I experience a slight slow down sometimes and I wanted to know if internal memory runs slower than my class 4 8GB sd card? If so I'll download the data on to my sd card!

I'm not 100% sure but my guess is internal would be quicker.

Thanks everyone here is so helpful

Depends on your card speed.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Depends on the phone more than the card. The same class 4 32GB card that was in my evo3d performed much faster than it does in my galaxy s 2.
FWIW, YMMV
galaxy s 2: 4.2MB/s Write; 8.1MB/s Read
evo 3d: 5.7MB/s Write; 18.9MB/s Read
These tests were done using the app SD Tools from the Android Market...or Google Play Store.
There is a app Sd card tester in market that will allow you to test /Sd card and /external and will give you speed of read and write

sd format type

I'm not sure if this is something I've just blatantly over looked on all my android devices (shsme on me if so) but is there a way to see if my sd card is fat32 or exfat without having to connect it to my pc to check? thanks for any help.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
i always thought it could only read fat32, so my guess is it has to be fat32
i can assure you that "only fat32 is pretty far off, as im pretty sure ive had ext2,3 and 4 amongst a few other types. but thanks for trying

some recoveries have an option that lets you view all the different file systems on your phone and sd card. see if your recovery supports that.
maybe i just didn't realise that i may have seen it in clockwork...does anyone know of a recovery that specifically has this function/ability?

Ext4 does but we don't have support yet...
Do it on your pc if you have an sdcard reader.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
my pc croaked last week. that's why I'm trying so hard this way...now when u say "ext4 does" are you meaning that there is a new custom recovery named ext4 just like the format type? or do you mean something else?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There is a custom recovery called ext4 that allows you to see what format your sd card is. Not for the gs3 yet.

It's actually called "4ext recovery", should've mentioned that

Issues moving app

I am trying to move apps which can be moved to the SD card but I keep on getting message unable to move the app .

What rom. This doesn't work on TW ICS with a stock kernel. Known issue.

See attached I am trying to move the apps to the external SD card not internal storage .
Isn't this a android limitation ?? ROM is cna jb
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Have you tried using Gemini app manager?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yes , I tried using that app but it moves it to internal storage but not to SD card which shows up as external storage .
Isn't this an android limitation to move the apps to the external SD card ????
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
It may be an issue with the rom itself. An early version of the rom I'm using did that, but was fixed in an update and using Gemini, I can pretty much move anything to the SD card

I am using CNA , wonder why it won't allow moving apps to the external sd card ..

Storage problems. Blank SD card

So I am rooted and I am on IOKP v1.4 11/14/13. My phone is not reading my SD card and its a 32gb. Was working on my s2 before I put it on this phone. Now its not working. I'm not sure what the problem is but its pissing me off. My apps can't even update because it says "insufficient storage available" my internal is somehow full. Even though I have no music, no photos or anything that takes up a lot of space. I cleared my phone up and still saying I used a lot of space. Any suggestions or what I should do exactly? Thanks in advance.
