My Nexus is coming in today, and I have been looking around for the most effective way to root the device. There are the awesome videos from qbking77 that seem easy, but I saw an application that someone made that has all of the tasks built into one.
I don't really like using adb on my computer, and I would much rather use something that someone knows 100% that it will work. I have used one-click roots and know everything about it, I just would like to know everyone's personal opinions on what is the easiest way! Thanks guys!

That seems like A LOT of work lol. For some reason I always have trouble with the drivers on my computer, but I guess I will delete them and give it another shot.

thats why there are instructions on how to install the drivers. the actual rooting part is simple and boils down to 3 things
1) fastboot oem unlock
2) fastboot flash recovery clockworkrecovery.img (or whatever the image name is)
3)flash su.zip
done.
Cool! Just got the phone in the mail, about to call Sprint and get it activated, then root this monster!

Hey guys, for some reason when I try to go into CWM (hold down volume keys and power) I only get a message saying "shell has been granted superuser permissions" and it does that over and over. But, I can still get in using ROM manager with no problem. What do you guys suggest?

It doesn't get any easier than the gnex when it comes to root. Just remember, when you take the easy way out and use shortcuts it's gonna show itself eventually and unfortunately there are no easy ways out of a bind. go with adb.

The phone needs to be OFF if you're trying to boot into recovery using that method. When the phone is off hold volume buttons and power then a menu will pop up and then you can use volume to select recovery from the list.
Or you can select reboot into recovery using ROM manager.

I own the VZW Galaxy Nexus , and I just unlocked the bootloader and now my phone will not boot-up. The device is stuck on the Google logo splash screen with the lock icon at the bottom of the screen signifying that the bootloader is unlocked. I used the program called Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.4 from Wugfresh to unlock my phone's bootloader, and now my phone is currently bricked. I can still go to the bootloader by holding down volume and power. Can someone help me restore my phone to a working state?
EDIT: Also I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to be posting this, I don't use this site often and the site would not let me post to Galaxy Nexus Android Development for some reason. I can still go to the bootloader by holding down volume and power.
the reason why ur stuck is because ur stock recovery might be blown up. try and flash stock recovery ....or cwm recovery...

You think I didn't try that already? And I don't know how to flash a stock recovery, help?
My phone also got stuck at the google screen when it tried to boot. Turned out it was a bad flash when I was trying to install jelly bean. I just went back in and flashed jelly bean again and everything was back to normal. I think you'll be just fine if you just flash a stock rom or whatever rom you want to run on. Look for one of the guides on how to return to stock and just skip the part about relocking your bootloader.

In the toolkit there is a "flash back to stock" option. Boot back into bootloader and use it.

Why be an ass to someone who is trying to help you. A simple I tried that and it didn't work would be fine.
If we assumed everyone did what we would suggest then half of people's issues would probably not have gotten fixed.
Like I would assume you new how to flash stock recovery so I would not want to offend you buy telling you how.

Now to be nice because I know a non working phone sucks : )
Put your phone into the bootloader screen to use in the toolkit. To do this. remove battery, place back in....Then hold volume up and down at the same time and then power the device on while holding the buttons. You will then be in bootloader and the toolkit should recognize your device from there.
If it does, try the steps over again or if you can flash back to stock everything and start over. The tollkit give you the instructions where to get the files if you choose that option.

blackscreen but fastboot will work? There are no responses, unless i plug it in. i get a driver that is enabling and then disabling. The Driver is called OMAP4440.
I remember seeing a program that u would install on your PC called like 1 click root and had a very nice GUI with tons of options to simply 1 click root your Nexus. Is this program still out there or what program is the best? I do want Superuser rights as well.
I do not want to flash a new ROM. I like the stock experience. I just need a little more access.
I am having problems with the new jelly bean update and Fox Fi no longer works. I got Easy Tether to work but I want a hot spot that works not USB.
I am hoping I can fix this with rooting or a third party APP.
I really hope I do not have to flash, but if I do have to I will only want to flash another stock ROM but one that is fully unlocked.

Bingo.
Which leaves fastboot as simply the best program to root your Nexus(any Nexus).
Fastboot is really easy, just copy and paste a few commands.
Hell, finding the correct drivers and installing the SDK is harder than fastboot commands.
on top of that, this procedure under windows is way much harder than on linux, imo.

Not just your opinion, that's just a fact lol. You don't have to deal with drivers on Linux or OSX, which makes it 1000x easier.
The drivers are a killer.........
So much that i downloaded the toolkit to install the drivers for my nexus 7 and just dump it aside after that, don't want to deal with drivers anymore..
Now i don't recommend this..
I tried download a Custom ROM from Rom manger and there was an error so it aborted the instillation

But, but... that's why there are toolkits and ROM Manager, right?
I don't even have Rom manager on my phone anymore, to me it's kinda useless, I've never tried flashing anything from it for this reason, you can't tell what phone it's for, I always hear more stories of it messing things up versus doing what you wanted. Just do it the safe way by downloading the right rom for your phone to your computer and transfer it over to your sd card and flash from recovery, and always have a backup ready for times you mess up.
I think i'll start linking people to pleazepimpmyphoneforme.com

Sorry, my sarcasm wasn't thick enough, I guess.
Hey fellow LG Optimus G users. Late last month I recently purchased the LGOG on Sprint and came here to seek a root guided. I didn't know that LG locks the bootloader on their devices. I came here, found root guides for 4.0.1 ZV9, 4.1.2 ZVB, AIO, Universal root and to be honest, the rooting portion was fairly simple, but its's unlocking/flashing where I have an issue.
I'm on my third phone. The first phone(unaware of it needing an unlock) I rooted and unlocked using the Universal method and tried to flash a ROM and bricked my phone. THe second time I used AIO root/unlock and my phone still messed up. Here I am once again and I really want to have my phone rooted and unlocked correctly so I can flash Paranoid Android(I like the hybrid ability it offers) but I am too skeptical about it now as I don't want to be out of a phone again. As far as Rooting goes, I feel I can just as easily use the universal method and gain root, but with unlocking, what do I have to do if the AIO way isn't correct for 4.1.2 ZVB? I'm not the best at using ADB and commands lines of the sort but if there is an alternative please help me out. Do I need a different tool? Is it availible on Google Play or is it all on PC?

Just unlocked my phone(went and bought the app to support shelnutt). Turned off the phone and then boot back up a clean boot, no error messages. I actually face palmed at how simple this turned out to be. Thanks guys :good:, glad to be apart of a helpful community. I'll play around in TWRP for a while to check its feats.
Edit: Now that my phone is rooted AND unlocked, am I able to remove the bloat apps without issue? I believe this caused my phone to have issues the first go round.

Phone not booting up. PL HELP !
Hello guys !
I have done something terrible and phone is not booting up part recovery now.
I had rooted the phone with one-click universal method without any hasstles and then try to reboot into bootloader by pressing VolDown+Power button.
Eventually ended up rebooting in original android recovery. I tried rebooting with option in that but it was not responding.
While trying it out, I mistakenly wiped cache partition.
Now NO MATTER WHAT COMBINATION I TRY, phone doesn't boot up past the recovery.
Please help me sort out this mess. I need to sell the phone.
I wipe my cache partition all the time. I am rooted but still locked (I don't think that will last much longer). Anyways, in the android recovery with jelly bean, I found that you no longer use the power button for selecting or confirming. It's now done using the menu button below your screen (on the right) . At least that's how it works for my phone.

When I power on the phone I get the LG logo and from there it goes straight to the "fastboot mode" screen, but I can't access the menus. I can also get the backlight screen, but when I connect it to the PC it doesn't recognize the device. I can also access "download mode" on the phone. Please forgive me if I'm not giving a lot of detail. This is my first root ever.
So you can get into fastboot? Did you unlock also? If so, press volume down twice then power. That should get you into recovery.

I'm not rooted. I'm following the steps in "Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy Note 2 LTE"
Samsung devices come with a unique boot mode called Download Mode which is very similar to Fastboot Mode on some devices with unlocked bootloaders. Heimdall is a cross-platform, open source tool for interfacing with Download Mode on Samsung devices. The preferred method of installing a custom recovery is through this boot mode. Rooting the stock firmware is neither recommended nor necessary.

Thank you but this one is using odin I think. I heard that Heimdall is better. If you go to the cyanogenmod website and select Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte"), then you can click "How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE ("t0lte")" and it has the instuctions. This is the part I'm having a problem with. This is the guide they provide for the cyanogenmod, so it's kind of "official" and that's why I want to use it. Also when I'm stuck at something I want to figure it out instead of jumping from one thing to another. I don't understand why it's not working I'm following all the instructions. I'm wondering if anyone used the method I'm trying to use.
Have you installed Heimdall on your mac computer? You have to install it on your computer, NOT on your phone..
Then you place your phone in download mode, and run the heimdall command from your Mac..
AND, if instruction on XDA appear "too sophisticated" for you, then you are NOT ready to root your phone, trust me on this one..
But hey, its your phone, so go crazy....

Hahaha:good: It's just a matter of following steps. And from reading the guide I don't need to root my phone. I like when everything is complete and clear. After so many years I though it would become simpler to install a rom, not more complicated.
I have a PC, not a Mac. But how do I install it on my computer? It doesn't say neither how nor that I need to in the instructions.

They look sophisticated, but I can still do them. I flashed roms with odin on my galaxy s 2. However I already started with something so that's how I want to finish it. Also the creator of the rom provides instructions how to install his rom so that's why I want to do it that way.
Heimdall is for mac's not pc's, so if you want to install ANY custom rom on your phone, you need to be able to use Odin
and, you MUST root your phone to install Cyanogen mod or any custom rom, period, no matter what you might have read..
