Do you guys think the extra $50 of getting the 32gb? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I know the s3 has expendable memory... But not all the apps can be installed on the memory. Would you go with the 32gb for extra $50?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

I did not because 16gb of memory can be bought for 15$ and I use the Internet for most of the stuff I do on the phone. Not a big gamer but I can't imagine a game that would not fit on 16gb. You can move some apps to sd. It's up to you dog.

Both 16/32gb have external sd card slots. Supposedly supports up to 64gb microsdxc.

I'd go for it. That was my original intention, but I couldn't wait for T-Mob to get some in stock, and I refused to order it online. So I bought the 16 gig, will wait for updates to fix any issues and for JB, then I'll sell this one and defray the full cost of the 32gig. Might even be able to get it in black by then. Anyway, it's all in the future. I'm really happy right now.

And remember, its like a gun! Better to have the space and not need it than to need the space and not have it!

If you worry about your apps, (Which most of them are able to run from sd card) you can have them all in your phone and your photos/music/everything else in a 32GB sd card.

nah dont waste your 50$. I bought a 32Gb micro sd for like 15$ on amazon for all my media stuff (music, documents, video, etc). you have 11Gb for apps alone and no way you can fill that up (btw I dont install big games)

Not worth it, get a sd card that can then be used for future phones. Justification for me is that this phone will be drop in value when the S4 lte comes out and it doesn't matter if it is 16g or 32g the market will be flooded.

So you're basically telling him to avoid getting something he may want because when he goes to sell it, there will be a lot of them available?
If I was OP, I'd get the 32gb if he can get a deal on it. Even at the normal cost of the phone and a 64gb card, you have almost 100gb to store stuff. But then again, I use my 64gb card for the camera and video recording as well as internet radio recording and much more.

Not so much as telling him what to do but looking at it from another perspective like playing devils advocate.
The OP should also consider your perspective especially if warranted by his needs of memory usage
If you don't expect to get a SD card then the 32G phone would be a good choice. When you look at the maximum memory capabilities of the 32GB phone there is only a 16% reduction with the 16GB.
I got the phone subsidized 16GB for a total of $179 and when I asked CS what the cost difference of the 32GB would be and they said 80. If it was $30 I would have grabbed it but not $80. I think I made the right choice because by the time a newer phone comes around there may be a need because I expect to have a collection of music and videos by then for now I have almost squat.

If you have endless amount of apps then go with the 32gb. You can't at least not out of the box save apps to the sd card. For everything else the 16gb should be fine with expandable storage up to 64gb

Upgrading SD Cards

So I just got a 32GB sd card to replace my 16GB one. My 6 year old iPod doesn't hold a charge and the headphone jack doesn't work anymore. So my thought was now use my phone as my iPod (good bye Apple).
I was surprised at how easy it was to put the new one in. Plug it into the computer along with your phone and copy all of the app data (and pictures, etc. you want) onto the new one. Unmount the one in the phone, and put the new one in.
Not only do I now have double the space, but my phone is much snappier. I used the same class and brand, so I figure it must be the way the app data was written to the new one. Instead of apps randomly installing files while downloading/saving on your phone, I think the one way ticket across platforms put them in nice and neat.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is my assumption off the mark?
Shhhh! ... don't tell any Apple users about this. Its a secret. Changing the battery and adding memory, priceless!
Can't say I've noticed any speed increase, but it's a good path to take for your music. I had to go all the way to a 64GB card (yes, they do work) to hold all mine - and the various ROMs I tend to hold onto.
64gb for the win.

Phones don't have a noticible difference between class 6 and class 10, I would say grab the 64GB card, now if you are going to want to use it for a thumbstick/usb later, you may want to look at spending the $60 for a class 10.

I mean it's pretty much dependent on how much storage you truly want. If you really think you'll fill up well over 33gb + the 16/32gb you have on your device, then of course go for the 64gb.
Besides, if you can wait a few weeks, you can pick up this Class 10 for $60....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WTAJTO?ie=UTF8&ref=aw_bottom_links&force-full-site=1
(choose Amazon on the far right hand side).
Also I think it really depends on what you are using it for...if it is load it up one time with music and play away and store personal, non-professional shot pictures you will likely be fine with the Class 6. If you plan on lots of video go for the fastest thing you can get.
In my case it will be heavily used for MP3's when I get it...so I will likely go with the 64 class 6 unless I find a really good deal ($50 or less) in the next couple weeks.
I am likely gonna roll with my carryover 16 for a few weeks until I get fully transitioned into using this thing.

Lame I know but I am so excited

So I am already the proud owner of a 16gb Galaxy S3. Lets just say I didn't get the best deal but hey I wanted the phone extra bad. The phone I had before it was the G2X, crappest phone ever, and my mom said she wanted it. Just as expected the G2X gave her problems, she's had at least four replacements since Aug. So finally T-mobile was gon to crave in and do an alternate exchange, and the offer a mytouch Q which is not even close to the same specs of the G2X and she had just switched from that phone. So I was told that it was nothing else that could be done, so I asked for the Loyalty Dept. the rep was really nice and stated that I could get a 16gb Galaxy S3 for $279. I thought that was a lil pricey and her upgrade is due in Feb,. I told the rep I'd call back and see what I had decided. So I called in this evening to take the deal, but the rep I got to sent me back to the Loyalty Dept. this rep offer me the 32 gb for the same price waiving all the fee and express shipping. So as of tomorrow I will be the proud owner of a 32 gb Galaxy S3 and my mom will get the 16 gb....Lame I know because I am already that S3 owner but I'm super excited.:victory:

I think it's more that the mom needs a phone. Had a chance to upgrade to 32g so did it and is excited about it. Do you need to rain on their parade?
I guess it's sweet OP is giving their old phone to their mom for Christmas but I still don't see spending the money. The 16gb one has ~10gigs for apps. If you fill it up for apps your phone will most likely be slow, have crappy battery life, and use a ton of data. If you need space for music/pictures the external works fine for 1/20th the price.
Buy the 16GB model...buy the 64GB sdcard. Still cheaper than buyinf the 32GB and you'll have 80GB. I've foynd the 64GB card for $50 online.

With a simple script you can go from 16gb to a 64gb. I have no slow down or loss of responsiveness. I am glad you were able to get something other then a my touch for a replacement but this could still interest even the ones with 32gb.

No just be sure to transfer all of the internal contents to your external. The only ones you may want a copy of on your internal is your ring tones so if you don't want our external card in the phone still has the files. The only "duplicate" I see is astro showing four memory instead of two. This is only due to the fact the script runs after the phone boots. I do have fancy widgets and because the use a file on the internal card, when I first boot the phone they load the proper image after the phone loads the script.

storage space

is this what we really get from a 16gb phone? i just notice this..

That's all. It's [email protected]#king insane. And no apps2sd without rooting. More insane. Google and Samsung must realise that such a stupid decision will scare developers away. There must be more that 30 games on the Play Store that require 1gig now. Not only that either. Spotify do not allow you to save off line playlists to the sd card!
I filled my internal memory in 10 days!!
Look on the bright side. The Windows Surface 64gig only lets you use about 24! (don't quote me on that figure).

I woke up this morning and noticed apps in my app tray showed signs of my SD card being disconnected. I opened Spotify and it could not locate the cache SD location. Going to try to swap my card and see if that's the issue
That is the reson to:
1.use Backup Cloud (dropbox/box with lg you should get 50GB for free only download app that sync auto and upload the pic&clips....)
2.buy a good SD (older ver of sandisk isn't working good with andoirnd) - I wish there is a list in XDA...
The SD card is most likely a bootleg or fake one and is not an actual 64GB card.
I had purchased two 64GB Samsung Pro cards off eBay (I know...) for my G3 and my wife's G3 and copied my files over and the G3 would show some of them as broken or corrupt, just like in that pic. If I had taken any pics or saved anything to the card, more files would become corrupted or just disappear.
I tried this several times and finally ran a SD read/write test on my PC and both cards came up as having only 7GB of space and not 64GB, with numerous errors. Cards were bootlegs.
So, got my money back and purchased two 64GB Samsung Pro EVO cards from Amazon and ran tests on them, no errors, no loss, actual 64GB cards and all that nice stuff.
Have had no problems as before, no stalls or delays recording 4K vids or taking pics or anything else for that matter.

I concur too, that card is most likely fake. They're programmed to read at whatever the card wants to be marked as. And you can copy all the files you want onto it, but when you go to access them or other, they're either corrupt or just disappear.
To be sure of what size SD card that you have, use H2TestW to read and write to the whole card. It'll report back on what the ACTUAL memory size of the card is, if there were any errors, defects or other to it.
I had bought two Samsung Pro 64GB micro SD cards just this month on eBay (I know...) and I was able to copy over 20GB of files onto them. But when I put it in my G3, over 3/4 of the files kept saying they were corrupted or would just be empty folders. Looked around online, found H2TestW, ran the tests on both cards and they both came back as being only 7GB cards with numerous errors and defects. I was only getting 1.5MBps write speeds. Bootleg cards.
I bought Samsung Pro EVO 64GB from Amazon, ran same tests, actual 64GB cards with not a single error or defect.
