So I just got a 32GB sd card to replace my 16GB one. My 6 year old iPod doesn't hold a charge and the headphone jack doesn't work anymore. So my thought was now use my phone as my iPod (good bye Apple).
I was surprised at how easy it was to put the new one in. Plug it into the computer along with your phone and copy all of the app data (and pictures, etc. you want) onto the new one. Unmount the one in the phone, and put the new one in.
Not only do I now have double the space, but my phone is much snappier. I used the same class and brand, so I figure it must be the way the app data was written to the new one. Instead of apps randomly installing files while downloading/saving on your phone, I think the one way ticket across platforms put them in nice and neat.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is my assumption off the mark?
Shhhh! ... don't tell any Apple users about this. Its a secret. Changing the battery and adding memory, priceless!
Can't say I've noticed any speed increase, but it's a good path to take for your music. I had to go all the way to a 64GB card (yes, they do work) to hold all mine - and the various ROMs I tend to hold onto.
64gb for the win.

I've noticed that if you have alot of apps installed to the sd card boot time is longer than if they are stored internally. Could that be the issue?

I just got a dinc2 and I'm planning to root, ROM, and hotrod the phone.
I have a new c10 16GB card for it and I'm wondering about the optimal setup. Any tips?
Special format?
Special partitions?
I'm coming from an OG Droid, so card usage was important. I know the dinc2 won't have nearly the issues the OG has, but I thought I'd ask...
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
I am not doing anything special with my card except for storage and the phone runs great. I've just got it O.C.'d with the V6 supercharger script. Maybe someone else cam chime in who has played with partitions and whatnot.

Nothing special here either. I just recently got my 32gb sd card and that was only because I needed more storage. Music and rom backups were filling up my card. Performance wise it runs great with nothing special done with the card.

i am forced to use my 2gb memory card, since somehow my 8gb card doesn't work anymore, like if i was to put it in my phone it would freeze, or wouldn't show up in the sdcard settings, and when i put it in my sdcard adapter and put it in my comp, it still doesn't show up and my comp starts slowing down and freezes, but i'm planning on getting a new card for my aria(until the htc atrix comes out hehe) but will a 64gb card work on the aria or the highest is 32gb, cause if 64 will work it'll make my iTouch pretty much worthless, but even if a 32gb will work i'ma get rid of my iTouch
Max supported is 32.

HTC is coming out with a comparable device.
Working for MCO, Kingston would mix and match where cards were made. Just because the 1st one out of the box was legit, didnt mean the 2nd was.
Backflip indeed was horrible but it opened me up to a new OS and now I love Android.
Im running a 32GB SDHC card, gave my girl my 8 and have a bowl of cards. None have given me issues on my phone with any of the ROMs. My GF has a Incredible and doesnt have any issues either.
Yes, this thread is worthless.

In any case, I thought the max was 16GB! So, no not worthless IMO.
I suggest you get a Sandisk on e-bay perhaps class 6 or 10 so you can run your ROM's cache and Davlink in there. I'm I right? eh? eh?
I just bought a 32gb class 4 micro sd card and after formatting it via my desire Z, i keep on running into a really really wierd problem.
I would connect my phone to the computer and set it as disk drive and drag/drop a group of files in it (ie. playlist file or small ringtone files) and as soon as I eject it and unplug the cable from my phone, the files are suddenly gone again.
What am I screwing up and how do I fix this?
Is it possible that my format method is wrong? if so, can someone explain what's the best way to format the card properly.
Why did you even format it in the first place?? Don't fix what's not broken...
What OS are you using on your computer?
I usually format every card i get as a habit. Don't know why, I was just taught to do that and never really thought it would hurt.
I'm using Windows 7
Try format it from your computer to FAT32

All SD cards, thumb drives, etc. are already formatted, usually FAT32, so you are wasting your time doing exactly what is already done. If you were to format to something besides FAT32, that would make sense.

Well, again, it's just a habit, but nothing wrong with it I believe. I waste maybe a few minutes doing a quick format.
But yeah, I'm sending the card back to the seller for an exchange so hopefully it's just bad luck. If not I'll have to spend more money on a better card eventhough this one is a Kingston class 4 which was unsettling....

Hello! I have been searching around the forums for this problem, and I can't seem to find it, so I'll post it here.
Anyway, my rooted Droid Incredible, with CyanogenMod 7.1, as well as my mom's Droid Incredible, stock on Android 2.3.4 recently updated by HTC, have both been having troubles with our 16 Gig micro sd cards. Randomly, after a boot, the sd card becomes unreadable and corrupted, so I had to go back to our old 2 gig ones. As far as I know none of our cards were even close to being filled, with cards at a max only being filled about 25 percent full. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Sent from my Droid Incredible using XDA App
Copy contents of both to pc, reformat them FAT32, copy content back onto each, and put them back in the devices. Note that the device is OFF when you remove and reinstall the SD.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Thank you, however I already have done this in the past, because our Droid Incredibles have a history of doing this. However, this time is a problem, because our SD card will not even be read by the computer. I am assuming that whatever important is on there is lost and cannot be recovered, although it would be great if we could. My main problem now is that because the phone or the computer (running Windows 7) cannot even know it's there, I cannot reformat. Any advice?
Can you use the phone to reformat it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Already tried, still wouldn't do anything.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Hmm, if both run without error with the other cards, I can only speculate the 16gb ones are what's wonky.
Absent pc backups from an earlier time, I'd say the 16's get retired and the 2's put back into service.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Ok thanks. I'm going to try just buying another card from another brand.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What brand were you using?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Have you checked it on Linux? Download a copy to a disk and boot it up. Then pop it into a card reader and see what's there. Windows doesn't recognize ext partitions, so if your card is formatted ext it may not show up.
Just a thought... Merry Christmas.
...Sorry...I was on the phone...
PNY was the brand I was using, however I am now successfully using an 8 gig SanDisk, and it's working now. You see, the reason I asked is because this isn't the first time this has happened in my Dinc, and I've been able to save it in the past, but this time I couldn't, and I was wondering if there's a reason our sd cards kept crashing. Anyway, we'll see if it was just a bad manufacturer. And I would install Ubuntu, however we only have one computer in the house, so I just keep Ubuntu on a flash drive just in case Windows goes kaput, and I need to access files.

I had something like this happen to me on an 8GB card. It could not format inside the phone, and the laptop was not detecting it, infact there was no option to use as disk drive. Finally I fixed it. I had to go into recovery, mounts and storage, mount usb storage. And lo and behold, it showed up on my laptop when I connected it. I now did a FULL FORMAT, not quick format. After this, I put it back in the phone and it's as good as new. Hope this helps someone.
I know the s3 has expendable memory... But not all the apps can be installed on the memory. Would you go with the 32gb for extra $50?

I did not because 16gb of memory can be bought for 15$ and I use the Internet for most of the stuff I do on the phone. Not a big gamer but I can't imagine a game that would not fit on 16gb. You can move some apps to sd. It's up to you dog.

I'd go for it. That was my original intention, but I couldn't wait for T-Mob to get some in stock, and I refused to order it online. So I bought the 16 gig, will wait for updates to fix any issues and for JB, then I'll sell this one and defray the full cost of the 32gig. Might even be able to get it in black by then. Anyway, it's all in the future. I'm really happy right now.

nah dont waste your 50$. I bought a 32Gb micro sd for like 15$ on amazon for all my media stuff (music, documents, video, etc). you have 11Gb for apps alone and no way you can fill that up (btw I dont install big games)
Not worth it, get a sd card that can then be used for future phones. Justification for me is that this phone will be drop in value when the S4 lte comes out and it doesn't matter if it is 16g or 32g the market will be flooded.

So you're basically telling him to avoid getting something he may want because when he goes to sell it, there will be a lot of them available?
If I was OP, I'd get the 32gb if he can get a deal on it. Even at the normal cost of the phone and a 64gb card, you have almost 100gb to store stuff. But then again, I use my 64gb card for the camera and video recording as well as internet radio recording and much more.

Not so much as telling him what to do but looking at it from another perspective like playing devils advocate.
The OP should also consider your perspective especially if warranted by his needs of memory usage
If you don't expect to get a SD card then the 32G phone would be a good choice. When you look at the maximum memory capabilities of the 32GB phone there is only a 16% reduction with the 16GB.
I got the phone subsidized 16GB for a total of $179 and when I asked CS what the cost difference of the 32GB would be and they said 80. If it was $30 I would have grabbed it but not $80. I think I made the right choice because by the time a newer phone comes around there may be a need because I expect to have a collection of music and videos by then for now I have almost squat.
If you have endless amount of apps then go with the 32gb. You can't at least not out of the box save apps to the sd card. For everything else the 16gb should be fine with expandable storage up to 64gb
