Hello! I have been searching around the forums for this problem, and I can't seem to find it, so I'll post it here.
Anyway, my rooted Droid Incredible, with CyanogenMod 7.1, as well as my mom's Droid Incredible, stock on Android 2.3.4 recently updated by HTC, have both been having troubles with our 16 Gig micro sd cards. Randomly, after a boot, the sd card becomes unreadable and corrupted, so I had to go back to our old 2 gig ones. As far as I know none of our cards were even close to being filled, with cards at a max only being filled about 25 percent full. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Copy contents of both to pc, reformat them FAT32, copy content back onto each, and put them back in the devices. Note that the device is OFF when you remove and reinstall the SD.

Thank you, however I already have done this in the past, because our Droid Incredibles have a history of doing this. However, this time is a problem, because our SD card will not even be read by the computer. I am assuming that whatever important is on there is lost and cannot be recovered, although it would be great if we could. My main problem now is that because the phone or the computer (running Windows 7) cannot even know it's there, I cannot reformat. Any advice?
Can you use the phone to reformat it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Already tried, still wouldn't do anything.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Hmm, if both run without error with the other cards, I can only speculate the 16gb ones are what's wonky.
Absent pc backups from an earlier time, I'd say the 16's get retired and the 2's put back into service.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Ok thanks. I'm going to try just buying another card from another brand.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What brand were you using?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Have you checked it on Linux? Download a copy to a disk and boot it up. Then pop it into a card reader and see what's there. Windows doesn't recognize ext partitions, so if your card is formatted ext it may not show up.
Just a thought... Merry Christmas.
...Sorry...I was on the phone...
PNY was the brand I was using, however I am now successfully using an 8 gig SanDisk, and it's working now. You see, the reason I asked is because this isn't the first time this has happened in my Dinc, and I've been able to save it in the past, but this time I couldn't, and I was wondering if there's a reason our sd cards kept crashing. Anyway, we'll see if it was just a bad manufacturer. And I would install Ubuntu, however we only have one computer in the house, so I just keep Ubuntu on a flash drive just in case Windows goes kaput, and I need to access files.

And sorry, I hope you have a great Christmas! Thank you for the help.

I had something like this happen to me on an 8GB card. It could not format inside the phone, and the laptop was not detecting it, infact there was no option to use as disk drive. Finally I fixed it. I had to go into recovery, mounts and storage, mount usb storage. And lo and behold, it showed up on my laptop when I connected it. I now did a FULL FORMAT, not quick format. After this, I put it back in the phone and it's as good as new. Hope this helps someone.

I just bought a 32gb class 4 micro sd card and after formatting it via my desire Z, i keep on running into a really really wierd problem.
I would connect my phone to the computer and set it as disk drive and drag/drop a group of files in it (ie. playlist file or small ringtone files) and as soon as I eject it and unplug the cable from my phone, the files are suddenly gone again.
What am I screwing up and how do I fix this?
Is it possible that my format method is wrong? if so, can someone explain what's the best way to format the card properly.
Why did you even format it in the first place?? Don't fix what's not broken...
What OS are you using on your computer?
I usually format every card i get as a habit. Don't know why, I was just taught to do that and never really thought it would hurt.
I'm using Windows 7
Try format it from your computer to FAT32
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
I've already done that a while back. it actually made the card read only when i put it on my phone.
I think you've got a defected micro sd mate

you mean defective. And yes, I believe so. I've contacted the seller and he's agreed to do an exchange for me. Hopefully I'll receive a new one that works by next week....

All SD cards, thumb drives, etc. are already formatted, usually FAT32, so you are wasting your time doing exactly what is already done. If you were to format to something besides FAT32, that would make sense.
haha sorry I sent this almost as soon as I woke up, hope you can forgive me ;D

Well, again, it's just a habit, but nothing wrong with it I believe. I waste maybe a few minutes doing a quick format.
But yeah, I'm sending the card back to the seller for an exchange so hopefully it's just bad luck. If not I'll have to spend more money on a better card eventhough this one is a Kingston class 4 which was unsettling....

How would you go about formatting it on the EVO. Settings>card>erase SD card?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Use RA recovery. You will see partition SD card. You have 3 choices. Swap-set to 0, ext-2-set to 1 gig and fat 32 for the rest. You have a big card so 1 gig ext-2 is good for apps to SD. Just make sure you backup what you want to save first.

is it a genuine Sandisk? there are a LOT of Chinese fakes on eBay, some barely work, while others don't work at all...
use any of the methods described in the other posts to format it, you can use either the phone or your computer.
good luck!
Thanks guys I formatted it thru my settings and then did a partition thru Amon Ra thing seen to be going ok. SO FAR. I hit the thanks buttons tomorrow when I get to a computer.

This is probably the case. A lot of flash-memory based devices on eBay have 128mb of usable memory and the controller continually overwrites it as it writes to anything above the 128mb ceiling. So... your ROMs would be bad, your pictures would disappear, everything would be broken after the first 512mb is full. Keep in mind that the file table would be in the first part of the drive so all of your files would actually appear to be on there.
Here's a good story with an example: http://technogra.ph/2011/05/05/man-...-drive-disguised-as-fake-samsungs-hard-drive/
Your right Jason. I formatted this thing til I was blue in the face and still no dice. Yup I got burned. Teaches me to not buy from the damn Chinese anymore.

So I just got a 32GB sd card to replace my 16GB one. My 6 year old iPod doesn't hold a charge and the headphone jack doesn't work anymore. So my thought was now use my phone as my iPod (good bye Apple).
I was surprised at how easy it was to put the new one in. Plug it into the computer along with your phone and copy all of the app data (and pictures, etc. you want) onto the new one. Unmount the one in the phone, and put the new one in.
Not only do I now have double the space, but my phone is much snappier. I used the same class and brand, so I figure it must be the way the app data was written to the new one. Instead of apps randomly installing files while downloading/saving on your phone, I think the one way ticket across platforms put them in nice and neat.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is my assumption off the mark?
Shhhh! ... don't tell any Apple users about this. Its a secret. Changing the battery and adding memory, priceless!
Can't say I've noticed any speed increase, but it's a good path to take for your music. I had to go all the way to a 64GB card (yes, they do work) to hold all mine - and the various ROMs I tend to hold onto.
64gb for the win.

I have a new c10 16GB card for it and I'm wondering about the optimal setup. Any tips?
Special format?
Special partitions?
I'm coming from an OG Droid, so card usage was important. I know the dinc2 won't have nearly the issues the OG has, but I thought I'd ask...

I am not doing anything special with my card except for storage and the phone runs great. I've just got it O.C.'d with the V6 supercharger script. Maybe someone else cam chime in who has played with partitions and whatnot.

First and for most I am not responsible for anything that might happen to your phone, computer, or sd card. I am simply posting to help anyone ot there who might have an error with there new cards.
So along with alot of others who jumped on the 64gb micro sd sales I purchased from best buy. When I tried to get my phone to register the card which was originally extfat by default it wasnt recognized. So then I tried formating to ntsc to yet again fail. I finally tried to convert to fat32. What follows is a guide to get uou 64gb sd card to fat32.
First make sure you backup any info you might have on you 64gb. Card because formatting will erase EVERYTHING.
Second, connect your micro sd to a computer. I personally used the micro sd to full sd adapter that came with my card.
Third go to the following website
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
And download the gui app by clicking the picture.
Fourth run it. Make sure you select the right location to were your sdcard is.
Fifth click the allocation to your preference (im not sure what this is suppose to do but I set it to max roughly about 64-65) then make sure you select the right destination if not you can format your hdd on the computer. Then press the quick format and start button.
Sixth the script should take less then a min. To be done and have a formatted fat32 64gb microsd card..

How common is this issue? I've got a 64GB Sandisk with exformat in my T889 with no apparent problems (so far).
Im not to sure how common it is but I ran into trouble. I tried the default for the card then ntsc and it wasnt registering with my phone althought I must say I was running perseus kerenel with the memory swap script. Then after I formatted to fat32 it work. Not sure were I read on some other people running in to trouble with the same sandisk card until they formatted.

I just had the same thing happen to me..I downloaded a bunch of albums..they were there..then I rebooted and they were gone...but when uTorrent was downloading it told me I didn't have enough space..I told it to go ahead anyway...they made it but then disappeared..
I have had my 64gb. San disk for about a year and a half without any issues. I formatted the way I outlined in the first post and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I know that the first post could be a bit tedious but it is the RIGHT way. No short cuts. I did have an issue with some kerrnels. For example saber kernel from Jedi Roms says that it can swap your memory partition from external to internal and it does for about a week and then for some odd reason it just locks your SD so you can't download or delete any thing. The combination I have been using is an old school pegasus kernel with a memory swap script. I have been using that for a long time and not only is it the most stable memory swap, but the kernel has never messed up my SD either. P.S. just my 2 cents

If you can't format it, and if your computer can't read it there's no way your phone is going to be able to. You took it out without disabling it in your phone first? Bad mistake that feature is there for a reason

Is everyone had this issue?? Because I had this issue too with my 32 gb card!!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying (the card brand is Team Group), this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the media scanning process.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card (made in Korea), and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdcardmonitor
My mom's OG Epic just crapped out.. 16GB Lexar (i think it was) worked fine.... all of a sudden "Damaged SD Card" on top of screen, Put in computer, no dice... Finally got PC to format it, Worked fine in there, Phone still wouldn't read (Formatted different file types each time) tossed in an old 2Gb.. Worked like a true pilsner.. So looks like my computer has 16GB of extra storage now. LOL
