Short List of what my procedure was:
1. unscrew top screws
2. cut to fit Evo landscape
3. put plastic on for fitment before glue.
4. applied glue to plastic, then glued to the wheel.
Waited to dry.
So I am always looking for ways to be crafty, and after CM6 was released, I needed a way to play my NBA Jam, NBA Hangtime, Megaman, etc. with a wiimote.
I was at the dollar store with my gf (Dollar Tree), and saw this Wii Steering wheel for a buck. I said what the heck, i'll buy it and make a project out of it.
Well, about an hour and a half later, i have my customized GameGear-Like Mount(Evo Edition)...
The wheel comes in 2 halves, with 4 screws(one in every corner) keeping them together. I removed the top 2 screws and sliced off the top half just enough to fit my Evo landscape. Reason only the top half was modified is to have back support for the device.
The flat piece of black plastic is actually the back door to an old tv/dvd remote i had lying around, i just sliced off the prongs/clips to make it as flat as possible.
Now the actual bracket like mount which i had superglued to the black plastic cover is from IQ Mobile solutions. I had purchased the car mount from bestbuy and it came with a few extra parts like this one. (its advertised there for an ipod/iphone, but it is completely universal, just mount the small plastic square on the back of your phone)
The product looks like this:
I slide my evo from the top into the little bracket and this thing holds like a freakin CHAMP! I couldn't be happier (except i did a half-ass job on the cutting of the plastic lol but for a DOLLAR WHO CARES!)

Please don't post about the thing i had to stick on the back of my phone, if you dont like it, i'm sure you can figure a way to make something else work. I bought it as a car mount, made the sacrifice and it is Saweet! The extra pieces from the kit enabling me to make this was a blessing

Nicely done man, very creative. I like it a lot. I love sourcing stuff at the dollar store too! You can find a lot of useful stuff there. It looks like you have some kind of skin on the back of the phone? You said not to post about sticking something on the back, so I'm going to resist . Since you have the phone mounted to the center of the wheel, you can cut off the top two parts right? Or are they weight bearing?

Thanks man, and I do have the Zagg invisible shield on the entire phone, i highly recommend it cuz lets face it, the evo is the first of MANY sick phones to come, so when a new one comes out, all i gotta do is peal off the invisible shield and the phone looks brand spankin new!
Its pretty much solid, but having the support on the sides def helps if the game is intense and i get to shaking it a lil lol I'm pretty sure it will support it tho.

From below pic, you can see that I have added something to tightly hold the tablet to the case.
It cost me less than 25US$.

I found the following from ebay, and more cheaper than mine. But you may require to break the icon lock on the left hand side and relocate it a bit higher or lower as it may cover the usb slot.

7" mini usb version doesn't work with Archos 70
Just an FYI: There's a version of this keyboard+case with a "mini-usb" connector sold for 7" tablets (looks like exactly the same thing as the one pictured for the 101 here, just smaller) by several Chinese companies. Just got one, and the mini-usb connector doesn't fit the 70's min-usb port. So.....if you buy the 7" tablet keyboard+case, it looks like you'd need to buy the full usb connector version, then use a usb to mini usb host adaptor. However......there is no power source in the keyboard, so I imagine it would need to draw power from the Archos.....and it appears the 70's mini-usb port only provides up to 1 mA of power. Not sure, but I would suspect a keyboard might need more than that.

Archos 101 + Leather case & keyboard = really expensive bad netbook.
A netbook to this device is like core duo to pentium 3.
I really enjoy my Archos, and i do not feel the need to add improvised devices to it.
I have my computer, my laptop, the tablet, the smartphone and the stupidphone. They all do what they are supposed and built to do.
I'm sorry but this makeshift case seems to me a waste of time.

That depend on your purpose of using the tablet. If you have notebook and desktop, of coz the tablet is only for entertainment, and keyboard is not necessary. For me, I would like to use tablet to replace most of the functionality of laptop. That's why I add a keyboard to it to ease my handling.

keyboards with android devices are spectacularly helpful. install documents go to premium (or a competing product) and voila, created and edit word and excel docs on the go, in meetings etc, no worries. sit in bed and chat with friends, email, browse the web, without dealing with annoying virtual keyboards.
it's amazing to me that keyboards, even cheap ones, don't come with every android tablet in cheap leather cases like this.
In fact, many cheap chinese models turn out actually do offer this combination at purchase. Presumably that means it's a very popular request.
Anyway, don't knock it until you try it. These devices are fast and nimble when working with office docs or doing qa and I wouldn't be without an android tablet plus keyboard at my workplace. I use mine for scrum (agile) meetings when updating versionone. Compared to a netbook the screen is bigger and easier to read and the OS is far superior for those of us with old eyes. Not to mention much lighter and sexier.

I just bought the same case off ebay for $20, shipped. I am going to add the velcro too, but for now I found that the tabs will bend and make the fit tighter.
You can't hardly buy a case alone for $20...

I like this idea, I would especially love if these guys would drill holes for the camera....augmented relaity navagation has already come to Rt. 66, just a metter of time before it comes to Android. Have you seen an ipad mount reviews?

i work for a company who makes high end video products for the automotive world. We we're looking at making something for my XOOM today but in the sun...the XOOM screen is just very big which causes a lot of glare and with the sun hitting it at angles we couldn't see the screen very well.
Going to give it a shot anyways...we'll see.

Looks awesome! Let us know how it goes when you get it. However, in CA, I think there is a law against operating a screen like this in the front of a car. If it actually got mounted, we would probably get fined for it unless we could work a GPS angle or something.

My car's windshield isn't big enough to mount a tablet to it....
This might not only be illegal, its likely very dangerous because of how much of your field of view it blocks.

I don't think the glare would be any worse than my Droid X. I have learned how to angel it for best results. I have also held the Xoom up to see where it would work best and only block a view of the top of the dash (don't look much at that anyway ) I would only use it for longer trips and in the motor home anyway. The Droid, in it's dock, works fine for local destinations.

Isnt it alittle bulky to put on a dash?

no offense but putting the xoom on the windshield is the dumbest thing i've ever seen.

other than the glare issue, i think a car mount solution could work for certain cars. definitely not a windsheield mount though. it would have to be a variation on the Proclip style thing that is specifically designed for your car and specifically designed for the xoom (i have one of these for my galaxy s, and it is absolutely hands down the best car dock ever).
one of the downsides of living in an apartment is i cant weld something like this out of sheet metal as i would have in my old place... on the upside it probably saves me from higher insurance fees from the inevitable car crash that would result from having such a setup in my car.

This is one of the ones that I want. They just need to make it for the Xoom...you could probably buy the one in the OP and this mount and piece them together just fine. This would put it in an area like a cop would use their laptops for.

Has any of you early adapters ordered a car mount yet? I would love to do that in the near future (including a car charger) but I don't know what to get. It would be great if it didn't cost $50+ though. Main use would be navigation.

I'm planning on installing the standard dock underneath my HU. The dock has an integrated power and aux out so it perfect for this application. The only problem is it will block the IR (not to mention all the controls) of my HU so ill need to hard wire my HUs remote to the IR... but I thinks it worth it. Best carputer you can have on your dash right now, and you can take it with you when you are not in your car!

I wouldn't mind fixing it to the small tray in the middle console of my car using either double-sided tape or even screws. I've read that the goose-necks are wobbly and the tablet is moving all the time. I'll do some more research!

I am kind of worried about the wobble too, but I will be able to tell you for sure in about 7 days. Mountguys just sent me an email that mine has shipped (Was supposed to be on backorder, guess not). Will post results when I can. Forgot to mention, this is going in a 2011 Maxima...

[MINI REVIEW] Cheap Waterproof case.

Well I ordered it from eBay and it arrived today so as promised here's a micro review.
First impressions are not bad, I can't complain considering the price I paid for it and, for something to use whilst out walking or just using in the bath (pretty light duty stuff) etc... It will do the job quite nicely. You can use the Tab with it in the case and it works really well considering I have a screen protector on it too.
It doesn't have a cut out in the back to use the camera but it's no big deal.
I have the book cover case for my Tab, but it will not fit in the water proof case if the Tab wearing it, so you have to remove this first.
I've uploaded a video to YouTube if you want to see it in action.
And here is a bit more closer detail about it.

All in all, It's not bad, granted it's not a WaterBuoy or an Aquapac case but you get what you pay for, so if you want something to keep the rain off it or just peice of mind when using it on the beach (just anywhere near water really LOL) then the "eBay Special" will do the job just fine.... I was going to purchase one of the waterproof cases for my Tab from either eBay or Amazon, but has anyone here already bought one that can comment on how water tight they actually are?
Would you trust it to keep your device safe if it fell into the bath for example and could you use the camera whilst it is in the case etc etc... I'm mainly wanting one so it'll stay nice and dry whilst using it for Ordinance Survey maps whilst on walks and also if i drop it in a stream for example.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated if someone has bought one that is.
If no one has however, then I'll get one anyway and review it on here, in case anyone else is also interested in getting one.

I really hope they made a mistake here . But even with forgetting the decimal and accidentally writing Kg instead of pound or something it would be quite heavy, as 6.4 pounds are almost 3 kilograms.

The product description does not provide much but I would be surprised if you will be able to use the Tab while in the case. It looks to me to be a waterproof cover that will protect the tab if it gets dropped in water but will require you to remove the tab to do anything.
There are excellent waterproof cases on the market for Apple products. I have one for my iPhone that offers full functionality while in the case and will protect the device even if it is submerged in 8 feet of water for over 24 hours, (I tested it). The manufacturer is LifeProof. They do not have a Tab version yet but are considering it. Otterbox is another manufacturer with a good product for iPhones and iPads.
The problem for manufacturers considering making products for the Android market is that Android tablets come in many sizes and shapes and are constantly being modified. By the time they produce the tooling to make a case for a particular device, that device is off the market. Apple is a much slower moving target so this is where the resources go.

A few minutes ago I had an idea. A case that gives you game controls and looks like a ps vita. Before I try to design and build this. First I would just like to know if anyone would even want to buy this, next I would appreciate any and all help if I get some interest. If not enough interest, then I would probs just make an instructable. Here is a quick sketch that I made:

Th price really depends on costs and I have no idea what it will cost. This is still just a drawing so the final product is a very long way off.

I'd be very interested in it. Looks really cool. Would be great for games with on screen controls n emulators

something like this BUT, of course less bulky looking something more slim to go along the line of the new devices.

well, then what fabrication abilities do you have? this would involve circuitboards, and at minimum vacuum formed, if not castings of plastic...
what programming do you have? can you set up a USB controller?
make a prototype, and then see how much that cost... and by prototype, I mean essentially a sellable product, not some random duct-taped pile of bits that only was inexpensive due to using used parts.
or is this just a drawing of an idea from a person that has no ability to make it?

You can also try Kickstarter to try to get funds to get this working n maybe get more people interested once you have a workable demo going

i was trying to come up with this for my gs3 with the two sides clamping onto tho phone via the usb dock and headphone jack so i can run an extender for usb and audio out. got a 360 pad hacked but having problems with hacking the usb to micro usb on the phone. gotten a little messy with the mod too.

At this moment I have very little ability to make it, however, I am a quick learner. I feel like there is about a 50% chance that this will be completed. Right now I am working on a rough 3d model of the plastic shell on computer. I was thinking about getting that 3d printed once it is done. I dont know how to set up a usb controller and I can program some basic java.

I really like this, but if you really wanted something like this you can use gameclip and ps3 controller, but the reason that my idea, IMO, is better is because you could fit the whole thing in your pocket.

Very rough "sketch" 3d model. Gets my point across that it will be 2 parts and they will attach to each other and plug into the phone.

I have realized that this could never come to the market, at least if it was made by me. If it was made by me then costs would just be too high because of my inability to mass produce all of the parts needed to create this. I just cant afford it and I really cant design it and market it and assemble it all while going to high school and doing homework and studying. However, once this is done, I will make an instructable for all of you to see and make this yourselves and perhaps one of you would be able to perfect it and produce it on a large scale. If that happens, I ask for nothing in return ecxept for credit where credit is due, but I doubt that this will happen...
