Hi everyone.
Before I start with my topic, I would like u to know the following:
1- I have very little experience in rooting,flashing,unlocking,ROMs,kernels,etc.. So please explain in simple words [step by step] if possible.
2- I already searched the forum for tuto's,and I can't deny that I've found various ones but, unfortunaitly,I still find troubles everytime I try them on my mobile
3- This is my 1st android device so I don't want to mess things up, that's why I prefered to have supervising though this topic.
4- My Xperia Arc has official ICS 4.1.B.0.431, Stock kernel, locked bootloader, and Un-Rooted -- In other words, My device is just 100% official :good:
So,through my tour in this forum, I found that the easiest way to root an Arc with the bootloader locked is the one explained in this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
And I read that way carefully, but I've gotta say that there are minor thing that I didnt understand :S
since I'm already on 4.0.4, I just have to do 3 steps : flash 4.0.3 kernel, root, flash back 4.0.4 kernel. Okay, I understand that, but:
when I downloaded the 1st file, which should be 4.0.3 kernel, I extracted it, and found 2 ftf files....
1- Why do I see 2 files and not only 1? which file should I put in the flashtool\firmwares folder? which one to actually flash by the tool? [upgrade Or downgrade]?
2- Their names start with LT18i,so these files are supposed to work also in LT15i?
Waiting for the answers so as I can begin with the 1st step and then move on to the 2nd step...
I know that this might,or actually WILL,look so dumb/noob for u but,... really can't see my phone bricked so...
Thank you so much in advance..

2. Then do root using doomlords root method ( mentioned in the thread)
3. Flash back to 4.0.4 kernel only using flashtool again.
4. U r ROOTED !!!!
5. Read more before making noobish posts....
& there is a video also how can anything go wrong ????

[Q] Question needed to be answered

Hey all!
I am quite new here so yeah.. At first i post a thread about some questions but still i don't understand some.
1: How do i unlock my bootloader without SE detecting it as a unlocked bootloader. Some say use SETooL/Omnius but i am still not sure about that. I don't want SE to detect my phone's bootloader as unlock. I know if it does my warranty is as good as dead.
2: Flash? What is flash? More importantly how do i flash roms onto my LT18i? I need a clear step by step instructions. What do i need to have before flashing? ADB Drivers? PC Companion? Is there a video that can teach me how to flash roms/kernels clearly? Give me an example on how to flash using a rom that can be flashed on Xperia Arc S.
These things might be hard to answer as it is in every noobs mind. So please help me understand, these things. How? What is needed? Example? I need answers. It is hard to search for answers as i am busy with my school and i am having Common Test (Sort of an important Test that is counted in my Exams). I am willing to learn more about this Android development thing.

But! But! I don't get it! How about on my Arc S?! Is a free method available without removing the DRM stated in your video? Mine says BootLoader Unlock Allowed: Yes. But if i use the paid method (SETool 2) will i need to like connect the testpoints or something. This is for my Xperia Arc S
Success! After some experiments I finally unlocked my bootloader and I flashed an ICS Rom!

You Can be on the latest firmware with root ....
Update OTA after Rooting ........
a) Your Boot loader should not be unlocked (Default setting by Sony Ericsson)
b) Root your phone which is running on .42 firmware using the latest Flashtools v 0.6.8
Note :
i.First install Flash tool.
ii.Connect the phone in Flash Mode
iii.Flash it with 4.0.2.A.0.42
iv.Turn on the phone when flashing complete
v.Connect the phone with usb debbuging enabled.
vi.Open the Flashtool
vii. Then press the lock icon on flashtool.
viii.Phone will automatically reeboot after done
c) After rooting update your phone OTA
You can try using Wifi/3G/Edge

[Q] Arc Rooting.

HI everyone . i m using xperia arc 2.3.4 and the firmware build number 4.0.2.A.0.62. i would like to root the device.
i came across so many places and they r saying to downgrade to .42 and root. and i din find any further procedure to downgrade. and i m having doubt like do i need to downgrade? or for downgrade , do i need to unlock the bootloader?
please guide me to root my device. i like this Default ROM and i dont want to change.
is there any possiblity to root in .62?
i jus need to remove lot of unwanted apps from the device..
Plz help and Thanks in advance..
Due to the near ICS update, nobody make efforts to find an exploit to root *.62.
So, the only way is downgrade to *.42 with flashtool, root (with flashtool also) than OTA.
Thank you, but can u tel m the procedure??
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
0. Read carefully BEFORE starting the process, if you are doing this for the first time.
1. Download Flashtool. Install it.
2. Download *.42 firmware. Follow instructions given by jlmcr87 in this post. NB. If you have problems connecting your phone with Flashtool, install Sony Gordon Gate drivers manually.
- - -
Alternatively, you can flash freely with Wotan, root with Flashtool, then OTA.
Procedure
If you are flashing a ftf for the first time, its better you go by a video...

This gives proper instructions....
Good luck

Thanks, ArcMan09. I have only rooted the Arc and have not installed any other firmware - it still has the existing manufacturer's firmware. I have also not unlocked the bootloader. Will it not accept an "official" update again ?
The updates do some checks on your current system, if it seems modified it will not update. Just do a restore in pcc it will install the latest version on your phone for you.

Just flash 4.1.A.0.562 ftf files with FlashTool.
FlashTool do not require unlocked bootloader.
After that you can root easily.

I have a rooted Arc S with .62 firmware. The right way to update is to reflash the firmware and then update to ICS via PCC?
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
I just updated my Arc to ICS. Connected through the Sony Companion which detected the SW update and it downloaded and updated it. The downside of this is that my existing root has been 'patched', ie, it has been unrooted with the update. Waiting for Doomlord to work his magic now

Yes - but what we really need is a 1-click rather than flash 'down', root and then flash. Am too lazy for these you know...basically a zergrush exploit or an emulator trick for the latest firmare...

There is no easy root method at the moment. If you want root then you will need to downgrade the kernel then root then update kernel.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
The only easy way is an unlocked bootloader, other you'll either have to use the downgrade or wait for an exploit.

Ok, so I have now rooted following instructions from this thread :
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
Step 1. Download Flashtool
Step 2. Download the .562 kernel
Step 3. Flash .562 kernel and reboot phone
Step 4. Root using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
Step 5. Download the .431 kernel
Step 6. Flash .431 kernel and reboot phone
I don't see why you need to go check on the talk.sonymobile.com site as those very same instructions have been posted here.
You do realise that everything that happens there is just a rehash of what happens here at XDA. :cyclops:

True...just that I had several links bookmarked on this rooting thing and I followed one of them. Btw, the .562 & .431 kernel links were about 5 MB each, whereas the ones I found on XDA were ~250MB - guess they included the entire stuff...or, I wasn't searching properly here:crying:

The 250mb ones will be ftfs, so the whole rom not just the kernel

Righto...just wondering why you need to download the whole ftf's when kernel flash would do...
Probably because they couldn't find the kernel alone. In that case, the only option would be to download the entire ftf.

So please advice me how to flash, at least give me some links to read for how can I manage to.

Thank you, I started reading but I have some questions. In the page for ultimate HD 2.0 there is a very short install instructions.
Flash LT18i. 587 (for LT15i Only Requiered)
Back up user apps and data. (Various apps available, search Google Play. This is a popular one.
Power off phone.
Boot to CWM (Keep pressing the Volume Down key after the Sony logo appears)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats
Choose zip from SD card > Choose your ROM of choice.
Follow on screen instructions on AROMA.
After Complete Installation Press "Done" and Reboot.
The first launch is slow so wait.
Give the phone a good full charge, and enjoy your brand new phone!
Firstly what is Flash LT18i . 587? Should I flash to 4.1.B.0.587 firstly? But I can only flash using SEUS or PC Companion to 4.1.A.0.562. How should I do it?
Thanks.
Flashing 587 is basically reformatting your pc. You need to use a program called flashtool and need to flash roms like the ones you mentioned. Also, Xperia arc doesn't have 4.1

Hmmm the rom number is APP-SW Version written in talk sonymobile com/thread/38388 page(sorry cant give link please google). If I remember correctly, .587 is 4.0.4 and .562 is 4.0.3
I also read that none of 2011 xperias get 4.1 or 4.2. :crying:
So first I need to flashtool to flash my rom and install 4.1.B.0.587
Then I need to install CWM and then follow the instructions, right?
Thank you.

[Q] Need to flash CWM through ADB

Hello,
I did something very wrong, I tried to change my kernel from Lupus to DoomKernel and picked the wrong one, the Xperia ARC one instead of Xperia Play (v22 instead of v14).
I now have a half-dead phone, stuck with a blank screen at boot, no recovery, no fastboot (fastboot keeps waiting for the device).
The only thing I can do is opening it through ADB shell and see the filesystem. It at least partially seems ok, since I managed to uname the phone and see my kernel version.
I saw matt4321's thread and thought it could help me to flash a new recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25052229
But unfortunatly, the linked online recovery build tool always *crashes* before getting the job done:

My question is: can anyone help me to get a working (and ADB flashable) ClockWorkMod "recovery.img" file in order to mend my phone please ? Any working link would be greatly appreciated !
And please forgive my bad english (be assured I do my best to be understandable !).

Can you enter flash mode? Hold back while plugging usb. If flashtool report that you are in flash mode then just flash stock firmware (ftf) file. That should fix all errors
