Has anybody ever thought to implement a feature like that? Rather than sliding, you just press a button. Would look cool with one of those animated miui buttons.

The slide prevents accidental unlocking, like when rolling around in your purse or in your pocket. A button would kinda defeat the purpose.

Is it possible to add in a widget or something similar to the iphone search feature? something like the global search thing on the iphone would be a cool addition to have, and it would be nice to not have to switch to the google search screen. im talking about a screen purely devoted to the global search. just a thought
?
Your dedicated search button searches everything.
im talking about having a screen dedicated to it...basically iphone style. know what i mean?
basically, on miui, if one is to press and hold the home key so the recent apps comes up and then scrolls over. i want THAT on a homescreen. is that possible?

I'm pretty sure that isn't do-able, but it wouldn't shock me if it was included in an update or if there was a mod for that.

that would take a lot of moding to be able to do.
I hate having to use the touch screen to take pictures. (I am coming from a droid x) I was wondering if it is possible to make it so the power button or even the volume button snapped a picture? Thanks.

Were these options on your Droid X? If so, was a modification required to be loaded? If so, could you provide a link?
Sounds like a great idea! Off the top of my head, should definitely be possible as a "ROM modification" or a possible small stand alone tweak...
The droid x had a dedicated camera button.
Hi there guys, I'd like to know if there's any way to switch the back and menu buttons on the arc??
and I don't mean physically but logically, as in making the back button work as if it were the menu...
Thanks
Just curious, but why?

It's not really for me, a friend of mine has one and doesn't like the button sequence... She's used to the way that it was on her Xperia X10...

That's fair enough. Was just curious, as out of all the button layouts I've seen on phones, the "Back, Home, Menu" layout is the only one that makes sense (to me).
"Back" buttons in apps always point to the left, and are near the left side of the screen, so it makes sense to put the "Back" button on the left.
The "Menu" button acts like the right-mouse button in desktop OSes, bringing up context menus, so it makes sense to put the "Menu" button on the right.
Which just leaves the middle for the "Home" button.
Maybe if you explain it like that to her, it'll "click" and she won't need them moved.
i had same issue, when i switched from x10 to arc s, but probably after 2 weeks i got used to it, and now if i take any x10 in my hands that looks weird to me

So, you have NO solution, just an annoying opinion, and in fact, you're telling her she's stupid. MMMMMkay. I'm sure you didn't intend to be like that, but that's how you come across. Tragic.
how the heck are you supposed to start a new thread on this thing, there's no menu key!!
sooo whats the best one-handed grip technique for this thing. I hold it up straight, with my pinky under it so it doesn't fall. I don't have the biggest hands, but is anyone actually one-handing this thing successfully? technique pleaseeee!
Sent from my Galaxy S3 cuz it has a menu key.
Press and hold the recents key, it acts like the menu key from the N3

And for what it's worth, long press back to activate multi window stuff. Just in case someone forgets how to do that thing.

Moving to Q&A.
Any option to lock screen with fingerprint?
only to make sure I understood you right:
You want to lock your Screen by pressing your fingerprint at the sensor?
So it's the opposite of the normal use?

i'm pretty sure it's meant as additional functionality. touch to wake/unlock as usual, touch again to re-lock the phone. this way you could completely avoid using the power button, apart from actually powering the phone. i imagine that behaviour would come in quite handy, especially if you just quickly want to check it for notifications/time and could avoid the at times awkward 'touch to unlock -> adjust grip -> press power button' order with 'touch -> touch again'.
nothing huge, honestly feels like an oversight to me, that there isn't an option for something like this.

Yap, just as you said, It's meant like add, func. to lock screen like unlock.
Instead of DT2lock with "lock screen app" It would be very handy to lock with FP ...
I think a reason why that was excluded as a feature is because you naturally place your index finger there while talking. It would end up locking your phone accidentally more often. It's like the dimple on the back of the Motos.

Double tap to lock wake
This is believed to already be implemented in ElementalX kernel and I believe an option in greenify app!

i personally haven't experienced a single task during which my finger(tip) lays on top of the sensor, apart from unlocking of course. also there would always be the option of implementing a toggle for an additional functionality like this, the 'double-tap power for camera' feature is a great example for this.
