XDA EXEC. LOST MY SMS TXT BEFORE THEY WERE OPENED!

What a lovely way to wake up, you look at your phone, no sms txt notification, you open txt up to send one, you see inbox with 4 unread txt. You open one up, it seems to crash, so you reset as its a brick at that time.. You wait you look again into your inbox and Whoopie all unread text 6 of them are gone... Now what ? Can I retrieve them at all? I tried to read the sim.. but nope.. mmm downloaded all the sms to laptop via outlook and nope nothing there.. Anyone is this a bug? of WM5 or does it apply to WM3 too? Is there anyway of retrieving these texts? i.e. the rom is that unstable? I am confused help me please to explain this bug? :?:
nope... aparently they were in the RAM and got wiped out when you reset the device.
So is that a normal event?
Loosing your sms because unit freezes for some reason or another? Is that particular to this device, or is it the operating system? I run the normal latest rom of O2 Uk not changed anything .. corporate version.
When in Ram
I followed that trail when in Ram and I shuddered it explaines why my alarms dont go off, and yes loss of sms etc if in ram..

Girl sighs now shakes her head and wants to go back to CPM and old MS dos... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh
leave the messaging system on the today screen, dont remove it.
sms's will crash when you remove the mail from the today screen.
consider using a third party app to reset, there are a few, and they will write the information in ram to storage when resetting, eg SPB PP but there are others
the other option, which isnt effective is to cycle the power off for about 30 seconds prior to resetting, however if it is frozen, this is unlikely to be effective
the usual cause is the removal of the mail system from the today screen.
awwww... poor you ask the guy who sent you the SMS to send it again
P.S it's due to the way the OS is designed... you will loose the data in RAM unless you flush it before reseting... try the app from vijay's website to reset... I havent' tried it myself but I think it should do the trick
here is the link

put messaging back onto today screen
Thanks I will do that... though I hate all that clutter,, I shall let you all know if it works.. or not.

I meant Desktop linux!
That looks really nice, and great to see it taking advantage of full 640x480!! Since it is a real OS on a laptop-shape palm computer, I would probably be quite interested in that. If I can persuade my employer to *give* me an Exec/Jasjar to replace my XDA2!
How is the screen redraw? I'm told that WM2005 redraws slowly on that device. They must have forgotten the 2D accel chips.

Slowdown/delayed responses

I'm getting a fair bit of slowdown recently on my MDA Compact lll. For instance, I'll reboot and then find I get very delayed response if I click on something, ( such as contacts, sim card, tomtom, etc) like it's thinking about it and working hard to bring up the information. It can take forever. Sometimes the tomtom logo on the desktop doesn't appear. And sometimes the contact list shows up empty even though the scroll bar is working on the right, so it knows there's a list of contacts but they're invisible until I reboot.
It can take up to 3 reboots before everything is back to normal and responding fast again. I've done several hard resets recently so it's not like it needs formatting. Could something be corrupted? I was thinking maybe corruption of the storage card, but then why would it affect the contacts list which is not on the storage card.
Yet another thread that gets no replies. Seriously, this forum is ****.
Only just seen this..
When monitoring the startup of my XDA Orbit it uses around 85-90% memory for at least a minute until it settles down to 50%.
What contacts software are you using and do you have SPB Pocket Plus installed?

Hi. No contacts software other than the default WM5. I just transferred my 118 phone contacts from my sim card to the phones own contact list. Nope, I don't have SPB Pocket Plus on my phone.

Gmail on my Desire not working this morning. Anyone else affected?

I've just discovered that my Gmail app is not receiving or sending. I knew it didn't recieve a mail I got in my box at arount 10.30 BST (GMT +1) and even after a restart, it's still pretty dead.
Actually, I didn't get any emails since 05.21 BST. That was the earliest one this morning that I can check from my computer that I got. Yesterday, my Gmail app was fine.
I'm not sure if this is linked to Rob Pomeroy's issue but this isn't about Exchange ActiveSync.
Anyone else have this issue?
Yep, having problems also.
I'm in the USA and my Gmail doesn't seem to be syncing either..
It used to be I'd hear my phone been before I got a popup on my screen.. Now it's just not doing it's job.. I can click and make it sync, but it seems to not be pushing email to me anymore..
I am on TMobile, but on wifi..
I don't know what the deal is.. I haven't loaded anything new lately..
Same here in Germany.
Edit: Now it works. But it takes longer then normally.
Mine here in uk is not syncing, even if you try to manually sync its not getting any new mails, wonder what's up.
I had this issue a couple of days ago. Couldn't work out what the problem was, until I found out there was a known issue with gmail failing to sync if internal memory got to low.
I had about 4mb left, so i then tried deleting some apps until the low memory warning went away, and sure enough gmail started syncing again. Pretty ****ty issue to be honest, but hopefully wont be a problem once google let you install apps to the sd.
So if you lot have a low memory warning, try clearing some space, and hopefully the issue will go .
yes that was the problem for me, finding it hard to find apps i can delete got a good selection of stuff i use, roll on apps on sd in froyo.
My Gmail has been working fine, but then again I'm using Google Apps for Domains, so it is possible that the difference is there.
Regards,
Dave
Yes me too. Started on Monday Tuesday this week (10th May) For no reason Exchange sync stopped worked and I couldn't receive any emails on my SIM unlocked Desire on Orange UK. Can still send.
Sorry off post as it's not a Gmail issue, but I'm looking for a solution - seems it might be and Exchange problem...?
According to the status dashboard (see here), Gmail has been having problems the past 3 days.
Note that this link is live, so it will move according to the date and current status.

Dave

Was just about to post my coincidence about having low memory, deleting Google Earth, low memory icon disappeared, and mail came in. Funny thing is, my GTalk had stopped working as well until I had more space! Now that one I have no idea why it is linked to low memory.
Come on, why wouldn't these things cache to SD card.
On another note, for some of the others still having this problem, I know I had it once before and it had nothing to do with low memory. I just kept on getting mail about 30mins-2hrs late. Then the problem just disappeared.
I hate intermittant problems. Too hard to diagnose since you show someone, then POOF!!! the problem is gone. You are left looking like a technophillic hyperchondriac.

I don't believe it!!! Why on earth couldn't it just pop up a little warning box saying "memory low, sync will halt until this has been resolved"? Or even better - use the bloomin' SD card!!
Many thanks to fozzy for pointing this out, I was on the verge of resetting my Desire until I read this!!

[Q] Memory leak?

I have a question. I started to notice that my internal memory is running very low, without installing any new apps. So I decided to back up my data and do factory reset. Am running on stock OTA froyo not rooted. Did the adb shell setInstallLocation to install my apps on sd. After the reset i had 136mb of free space. After a couple of programs and data restore i had 123mb of internal memory. A couple of more programs and down to 120. After installing NFS Shift and Navigon down to around 98 as it should be. After linking two of my contacts with their fb accounts it fell down to 93mb! After just two minutes, without touching my phone it fell down to 89,5mb! Now the best part, without installing anything, nor touching the phone whole night (due to sleep ), my internal memory fell down to 78,95mb, whole by itself!!!
Call me crazy, but something is wrong here, and I dont know what... I delinked those contacts with their fb accounts, only left weather to sync every 6 hours, gmail notifies my instantly when a mail arrives but i recieved maybe 3 mails during this memory leak, and fb sync was on..
Any ideas what can cause this?
Anyone?
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Check what is using the most memory and report back
HTC contacts take up A LOT of space most of the time. Mine got up to 35mb a few days ago and has since stayed at 35.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hm, here it is:
Motonav 18,75mb
Rockplayer 3,99mb
Fifa10 3,86mb
Facebook 3,71mb
ASTRO 1,40mb
Dolphin HD 1,29mb
Other are less than 1mb.
For the past 24hours memory is doing fine, not leaking anymore, but I would kill to know what took 10mb just over the night while phone was idle?
What about nfs shift? That takes about 35mb?!
Make sure all the apps have refreshed and are all showing their size.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I set the device to install all apps on SD card, so NFS takes up to 500kb in device memory The memory decreased as I was installing apps, so if it said that app takes 3mb, it got decreased by that much. So proprotion memory decrease and all installed app size is equal. But then it lost those 10mb over night, I don't know on what...
Before I did factory reset, I got 9mb of internal memory free and all my installed apps together took around 45mb, so I don't know where around 80mb went then.. After the reset, things became more normal but only thing that is bugging me are those 10mb that i lost without any trace...
That's why. I assume you're rooted? If you are, the rom you're using probably has A2SD+ so you don't need to move apps to SD, as the rest of the app goes on internal storage, instead of A2SD+ which moves all the app to SD.
Try moving apps back to internal and see how that goes.

Not rooted :/ I did the cmd command adb shell setInstallLocation and set option 2, to install all apps to sd card.
Used this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742379
Thats why NFS is not 30 or so mb, but only 500kb in phone storage..
Is it possible that facebook could download so much data by linking two contacts with their fb pages?
Ahh, that's strange then. How many apps have you installed total?
Facebook for Sense will only sync contacts with phone numbers linked, and also their status', photo albums etc.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Why its strange? Contact Sync etc over Night and your sopace will fall down if i Delete all my SMS i will have 20 MB more
But I dont have so many SMS, and only two of my contacts were linked.. I can't believe that only 2 links and already memory down bu 10mb? What if I linked all caontacts, i would need an 8 gb memory card for storage
Apps in total:
aBTC
Advanced Task Killer
Album Art Grabber
ASTRO
Barcode Scanner
Compass
Doplhin HD
Extended Controls
Facebook
FIfa10
Google Translate
Hungry Shark
Java J2ME Runner
Motonav

[Q] Messages app working too slow!!

PLEASE HELP! My messages app is working soo slowly! when I open a conversation, it says 'Loading' and after about 5 mins, the conversation opens up. It's so slow! Why? Is it because I have all the messages stored in my phone memory? or is it something else? How to make it fast?
yeah same problem here. Weird. Thinking its all the past messages. Guess you have to delete the conversation every once and awhile. Oh well.

Hi, I have the same problems . Your phone is repaired. Replacing the motherboard. After 10 days the problem is back. Yesterday I made a factory reset, 2 minutes today I opened SMS. I reported this problem HTC and they know nothing about.
Sorry for bad English.
Go to app info of messages, from there select clear data. It will probably solve the problem....or do a factory reset..

After much frustration with the slowness of the message app, I tried this and it worked very well so far:
From within message app, select Menu...Settings...General... and uncheck the first three (all three) options under "Recipient list settings."
I guess that limits your search options from within the app. For me I probably don't use that function anyway, and even if I did I would trade it for a quicker app. To me, text messaging is worthless if it is not quick, otherwise I would just call or email.
