lol dude wrong section, and u obviously cant read cos there is loads of ways to s-off and root. and if u bought it to develop
1: why not buy xtc clip, easy and fast only like 15 quid.
2: s- off by HTCdev definately works did it myself on cha cha but sure will work for wildfire s.
3: Simon's HTC Utility v4, [UTILITY]One Root for WFS Windows/Mac, rezo609's All-In-One Utility, and probably loads more that will work.

you cant S-OFF from HTCdev, only unlock bootloader... still wrong section though, and all your answer are here just search
I believe he is wailing about the new A510e devices that don't respond to CM kernels. Gingerbread leaves you with a black screen and ICS halts at the initial splash. I'm not sure how they expect any developer to fix an ethereal problem in a device they don't own. Most of the users with these devices haven't volunteered to help they just whine that their devices don't work with recovery x or that 5.0.2.8 gives them a Black Screen.
There is a workaround for the recovery issues but, it's a bit hokey.

A friend of mine has a wildfire S and is sick of the constant lack of memory messages so he's considering rooting his device. I'm looking for every tutorial you need to root the phone as well as how to "s-off" for one tutorial in the dev section that didn't have this, that's why I'm asking so I can get him started.
Can anyone help me out with this please? I'm assuming its not possible to follow the standard HTC Wildfire rooting guides.
Thanks,

Look at the general section, there is a index thread
Swyped from my desire s running damn sweet ice cream
I note that in most of them you need an XTC clip, is there an easy way around this? the ones that don't use it are CDMA models, without any more info on the phone in question I can't understand much more myself, so which method of rooting have you guys used?
Rooting tutorial is in a stick in this forum...
Yes you need an XTC-Clip to S-OFF the phone for permanent root.
GSM - XTC Clip
CDMW - Software S-Off
The end!!!
Sorry but you are just another spamer who does not wat to read...

Unfortunately not yet, if you got no cdma version (without Sim slot) you need an xtc-clip to gain s-off.
You can get one at e-bay or go to a second hand seller that also does repairs, I unlocked my gf wfs at one of those shops for €20, but I can't guaranty that all of them got one.

In what world am I just another spammer? I'm simply looking for some help on these forms on a phone I have no experience with before I go off and tell my mate to do something incorrectly. If it bothers you that much don't read the thread. As much as people like me bother people like Tectas, they still help even if it pisses them off which I thank them for.
Tectas, thanks for that, if you don't get the s-off can you still root the phone or what happens then? I recall not getting s-off on my sisters desire and managed to root it using superoneclick. The only thing was lots of ROMs wouldn't work.
Hey guys,
I am currently coming from a HTC Desire HD and am planning on picking up a One X tomorrow from a guy who got it with his phone contract.
It's about two months old and simlock free.
I cannot seem to find an answer to some really urgent questions I am having now..
From what I've read it is much harder (or impossible?) to succesfully root and S-off the device then for example on my HTC desire HD?
Is this true? I would like to use the ARHD rom but I am not sure now if I can make it work without being stuck on one ROM or not having any custom roms at all.
Can someone please explain to me what is really the situation with the One X currently.
is it possible to root and s-off so I can flash different roms? and are there any other relevant things I should know?
I'm hoping on a quick answer before I pull the trigger and buy a One X
Thanks a million for anyone helping me out here!

root= yes
s-off= no but being worked on by 2 brilliant dev's (at least them 2 if not more?)
You can flash different roms yes but would need to see which action is needed for each rom, i.e some need cache etc wiped blah blah blah

hmm.. still a little confused here but I appreciate your help! :good:. how can it be possible to flash/install custom ROMS when the phone is still S-ON?
Do you only need root acces then? and I guess you cannot just flash .zip files like from a custom recovery (like 4EXT recovery) like I did it on my Desire HD or can I?
What part are we essentially missing right now with the Security being on?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can make this clear to me

The bit where you can make it look like you never had a custom ROM and recovery installed.
On htcdev.com, there is an unlock method, but HTC have been known to invalidate their warranty for unlocked phones.
Your statutory rights are not affected, but it you'd have to go back to the retailer with problems (at least in the UK)

When son you have to flash the boot.IMG for the ROMs using the computer. That means every time you want to flash a new ROM you have to use a computer also.

First of all,
Thanks a lot to everyone who have been answering my questions.
Okay so if I read and understand everything correctly it is still relatively simple to install custom roms but I need a computer everytime I install a new ROM and HTC can see there was a custom recovery and ROM installed. (and this will possibly void my warranty)
Is that the right way of summarizing this or is there more?
and.. do you guys think there will ever be a S-OFF option?
Thanks in advance:good:

Okay. thanks
I hope we might see a S-OFF for the one x in the near future then!
so to be clear, when I receive my phone tomorrow and want to install a custom ROM (for example android revolution)
I need to:
1. Root the phone
2. Install a custom recovery (like clockworkmod)
3. and then what?
because the description in the Android Revolution ROM topics states:
" You need:
HTC One X unlocked with htcdev.com (S-ON) or S-OFF <-- but I do not have to unlock it via htcdev to be able to install it?
ClockworkMod Recovery or 4EXT Touch Recovery (coming soon)
Firmware package from downloads section" <-- and does he mean by firmware package just ROM or?
sorry for all these questions but I am new to the One X and this other procedures
Thanks for the help and patience
You need htcdev unlock for permanent root.
Then you flash clockworkmod, take a backup and flash Rom and kernel (boot.img).

Just so you know, once you unlock the bootloader there is no going back. You can relock it but it will show RELOCKED instead of LOCKED. So HTC will always know, and they can deny warranty claims if they chose to do so.

The warranty thing is all hearsay we have no fact I've heard several people get their phones fixed/replaced htc are legally obliged to stick to their warranty especially if it is a hardware fault. Not 100% sure on where we stand but htc can't just cancel our consumer rights

It's like this: There are statutory rights. In addition to that there is a warranty. HTC are perfectly within their right to cancel a warranty, but your statutory rights continue.
In the UK, in practice, your rights are with the retailer, unless you purchased it on credit, in which case they stand with the finance company (in theory, but as a matter of practicality, hit up the retailer first).
Oh, IANAL.

To be even more specific: you should find out why the suggested method(s) fail before proceeding with other attempts. E.g From what I've heard and seen you should be glad that the htcdev method failed as it doesn't give you s-off which isn't mandatory to root but for flashing a new7different radio, use custom mtd partitions etc.

Doh!It is so sad to see all this happening. It is really a sad scenario to see these buddies going through this.I can feel their pain and frustration.HTCdev sucks!!!
Unlocking via HTCdev is completely Bull****…..Getting ROOT without S-OFF is like listening to porn on the Radiops!
I am so sad for HTC. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and...attle-Looks-to-Windows-Phone-8-Report-441483/
I have been loyal to HTC right from HTC Touch.I adore HTC devices. It is absolutely beyond my comprehension how the company like HTC (the pioneer of smartphones) that produced such outstanding devices would self-destruct like this. They are axing their own feet.
HTC is losing a battle to Samsung coz they have refused to embrace the consumers.Samsung has already released the source codes of their kernels and allows Bootloader unlocking and S-OFF’ing on their devices.Maybe Samsung sucks at coding bootloader protection lol.Whatever!
If HTC don’t assist developers in unlocking bootloaders and S-Off’ing for HTC devices,it will just drive away customers who like to root or tinker with their phones as more and more people want to have complete control over their phone.
May God bless HTCdev!!If they don’t change their policy,I am gonna say adios to HTC and “Hola!Samsung!”

from what I hear and read it's much easier to unlock the current htc devices. The problem is more related to that our buzz is a so called "legacy device" which means: it's not the future and not meant to generate any sales of...
Re. open information to devs: bear in mind that most people don't want to touch their phone any deeper than downloading apps from the app store... XDA is a huge community - but not representative for all the millions of smartphone users worldwide. The problems that HTC is facing are of course the rise of Samsung in the market and a missing response to it. But much worser: Samsung most likely will make a deal with Apple regarding licenses. This probably will leave HTC standing in the rain. Let's see if they will innovate something new. If Apple starts going to sue them, too, it probably will become hard. But who knows - there's also Google... I'm not too sure if they will focus on Samsung for Android hardware as they're already handicapped.
Let's see how it goes...

Despite the very crass nature of way AAHK's """effen""" (multiple quotes because I loathe that "word") manual, it does get to the point, and if you follow it then you'll have no problems,
Well, thanks to the AAHK tool, my phone is Semi-Bricked, and im having a hard time recovering it.

AHH you restore to froyo?? You are not very clever are you? Maybe you missed the part where it says not to flash a froyo RUU in a device running gingerbread..that is all over the forum and even in the guide in my signature. Also in the effen manual and in the Hack Kit site.
Besides, it does not exist such a thing as semi brick...or you are bricked or you are stuck...
To sum up, stuck at the splash screen is fully described in the troubleshooting section of the manual. What people need to know, is that the Hack Kit is not for the lazy noobs, being a noob is fine if you are wise enough to learn what does hacking your device needs and involves. There are lots of thread on that...even I have writen a guide to help noobs out. No one will do anything for you...IT IS YOUR PHONE, so do your homework and stop whining.

You can still S-OFF your phone.
After a while, the script might (if needed) try to download a PD98IMG file. When it gives an error simply google for the filename (might be PD98IMG-GB2 for example) and place it in the PD98IMG directory AAHK created. Everything should go well. I S-OFF'd my Desire yesterday.

Sorry KirovAir, but if the people you are advising to use the Hack Kit get stuck due to not following instructions or some other issue, will you support that? Because let me remember you that the Hack Kit is no longer supported nor here or in the IRC channel. Don't you think that what you are advising is dangerous and might leave quite a few fellas with their phones in a blank screen?

Sorry! I forgot to mention that using the Hack Kit is completely on your own risk and unsupported here! (and probably anywhere else..)

Thanks for the information!
I had also read about 'Easy Ace Root Tool' in dev forum. But I have a question regarding that.
- It says that only Custom ROMs can be installed, not Ported ROMs. What is meant by 'ported ROMs'? Will I not be able to install, say Sabsa prime or Venom's ROM(which are ported from One S and Desire X), if I unlock bootloader using Easy Ace root tool?
Also, does it support flashing 4ext recovery?
could you please tell me at least which version of aahk you used? already found in the web PD98IMG-GB2 and i am willing to do the proccess... already red many forums about rooting my desire hd. but since you did that proccess already i think you can give some reliable tips even if this topic is unsupported here. i know that discussing about aahk is unwelcome in the xda forum and i am sorry for this but i think you would agree that its the way with the most chances of success. or anyway could you suggest me any another way to follow?
thank you for yoour time

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash any recovery that is for the device (DHD / Inspire 4G), Custom roms built from source (CM) and modified sense roms work great. Ported roms I am not sure, but you can try it out. In the worst case scenario, you might get stuck in the splash screen and you will have to flash a different one.

No, Hack Kit is no longer supported anywhere. If you are willing to do it, you are on your own and will have to find information about it somehwere else. There are other ways to root or S-OFF the device that are supported here. So, please let the Hack Kit rest in peace.

definitely i would prefer a way through xda furums since its the most trustful, helpful and updated site!!!! but pls... there are more that 5 suggested ways in the forum from 2010 till 2011 or early 2012 and some files needed to be downloaded no longer exist. moreover, above the topics many people explain that had problems during rooting and s-off proccess..could you suggest me one of these as most efficient... its not that i cant do it but i need a guide by following exact steps since i am not a programmer of android. sorry if i am asking so much but im reading for more that a week forums about rooting and s-off dhd and i am really confused with the difficulties this phones has. (i have 3.0sence with 2.3.5 gb, but i bought it on froyo version if this could help)

You don't need S-OFF to root. You can just run this and you will be just fine. You don't have to be a programmer to root your phone, just do a little reading and searching will suffice.
