Help for a friend, in need of rooting tutorials - HTC Wildfire S

A friend of mine has a wildfire S and is sick of the constant lack of memory messages so he's considering rooting his device. I'm looking for every tutorial you need to root the phone as well as how to "s-off" for one tutorial in the dev section that didn't have this, that's why I'm asking so I can get him started.
Can anyone help me out with this please? I'm assuming its not possible to follow the standard HTC Wildfire rooting guides.
Thanks,
Dave

Look at the general section, there is a index thread
Swyped from my desire s running damn sweet ice cream

I note that in most of them you need an XTC clip, is there an easy way around this? the ones that don't use it are CDMA models, without any more info on the phone in question I can't understand much more myself, so which method of rooting have you guys used?

Rooting tutorial is in a stick in this forum...
Yes you need an XTC-Clip to S-OFF the phone for permanent root.

GSM - XTC Clip
CDMW - Software S-Off
The end!!!
Sorry but you are just another spamer who does not wat to read...
Please stop opening such threads, first searcu for it...

Unfortunately not yet, if you got no cdma version (without Sim slot) you need an xtc-clip to gain s-off.
You can get one at e-bay or go to a second hand seller that also does repairs, I unlocked my gf wfs at one of those shops for €20, but I can't guaranty that all of them got one.

In what world am I just another spammer? I'm simply looking for some help on these forms on a phone I have no experience with before I go off and tell my mate to do something incorrectly. If it bothers you that much don't read the thread. As much as people like me bother people like Tectas, they still help even if it pisses them off which I thank them for.
Tectas, thanks for that, if you don't get the s-off can you still root the phone or what happens then? I recall not getting s-off on my sisters desire and managed to root it using superoneclick. The only thing was lots of ROMs wouldn't work.

You would still have 2.1 this is how i started;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and then i just jumped to a cooked ROM
as for over the air im not actually too sure about that might be a matter of jkust flashing to the 2.2 when it eventually drops in like 2weeks - 2months
Thanks, DanTehManUK.
That was is a very useful link, thanks for being so helpful...
Its what we do
could you help me pleez! i am on a branded htc desire 2.2 with hboot 0.93.
i need to know how to create a goldcard for it. i also need to know how to root it to add custom roms. i have searched the forums but some say i cant create a goldcard for it and such so i am confused. all help would be appreciated as i am abit ov a noob, but understand some aspects.
Thanks in advance
theres no need to use the gold card method,.... try the unrevoked method its much easier and you will be rooted in ten minutes max
Could u kindly send me a link on what to do pleez? And how come it doesnt need a goldcard? :/ can u still add custom theme/rom if u dont? Thanks

have you been able to unlock your phone by rooting it?
Rooting doesn't SIM unlock the phone, you still need to get a code for that
I unlocked my phone in five minutes by ringing the phone company the phone was locked to.
You can use the app in the general forum to sim unlock the phone - no codes, no cost.

Use the desire sim unlock utility in the development thread. I've used it numerous times and it always works and it's free.

[Q] Really confused :S

Hey,
After the news that HTC ain't gonna update to gingerbread, I've made the decision to root my phone. But I'm really confused what to do. What method do I use? Can anyone give a link to the method they used and worked? I've searched the web and they all say different things :S
Ever seen the stickies on the development thread??

there is a video tutorial that takes you through the whole process

Haha I remember last year when I rooted my phone. I downgraded my hboot then my phoen wouldn't work then I realised that there was unrevoked, hahaha.

[Q] Rooting, unrooting, S-ON? Noob alert

Hi everyone. First off, I saw the video before watching, I searched the forum, I tried google but I'm a complete noob and a lot of the things I've read don't make much sense to me or I'm not sure if my phone falls under 'rootable' or 'unrootable, needs xtc clip or w.e'
I have an HTC Wildfire S with Bell. I checked and it says "S-ON", its Android 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1 at first I was going to use this tutorial but I wasn't sure if my phone falls under that since it has "S-ON"
Also...lets suppose I can root it, how do I go about unrooting just in case I need to take it for warranty or something? (since I payed extra for that). I read something about EUU? But again, it didn't make much sense to me.
Sorry, I swear I searched hard to find an answer :S
You cannot root you phone if it's s on. Only way is to buy x clip which is almost the same price as of the phone :/
Thanks for the reply. Damn, I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer. Well that sucks, thanks anyways.
xtc clip is currently about 80% off at the moment on their website due to them discontinuing the PAYG clip....
For us in the UK, it means the XTC Clip is just shy of £40

Regis1,
from the moment you decide to start rooting, you loose your warranty. At the moment there's no way back from S-OFF to S-ON. Putting your phone in S-OFF (security flag OFF) is the same like removing the VOID sticker...
First think about why you wan't to root. Install unbranded ROM, another language, ...
If your phone is working like it should, I wouldn't root it...
IF you decide to root, you can try to follow this thread (if u have HBOOT 0.90.0000):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142529
(HOWTO for creating a goldcard is in one of the reply's)
IF you have a newer HBOOT, 1.03.0000 like I had, you need to buy an XTC PayG clip. These cost around 30 euros on eBay. This will put your phone S-OFF and from then on you can flash a custom recovery or any Wildfire S ROM (with root access) you want.
PS: the thread you specified, is for a Wildfire, not he Wildfire S and doesn't work...
^^Thanks for the reply. Ya, I wanted to install some custom rom as my battery seems to die quickly and I was hoping I could install a rom (its called rom right? lol) that is good for battery life. Forget what it's called but seeing as how you're saying it automatically voids my warranty and there's no going back its really not worth the trouble. I'll just google some methods to save battery life and look at a thread I saw here. I do like my phone overall and have no problem with it, I just figured that if I can make it more customizable then why not. I kind of imagined it would be like jailbreaking an iPhone so I thought why not. Turns out I'm wrong.
@taffypride: Well that's about $60 for me which isn't worth it at the moment, just as I said. Thanks though.
I suppose I'll keep my phone the way it is for now. Thanks for all the replies.
HTC wouldn't care if it's S-off as some phones are shipped that way, the xtc clip is a one time purchase and will be updated to unlock newer phones within the future, also unrooting is very easy. All you have to do is install an RUU from your region or a WWE (World wide edition)
Well I bought extra warranty from the store I bought it from (bestbuy) so this isn't a manufacturer warranty. But both ways it seems like too much of a headache at the moment anyway. I'd rather wait until I've had the phone for a while and am bored with it. That would be a perfect time for rooting experiments
You will get bored quickly. After rooting it the possibility's are endless.
unroot htc wildfire s (s-on)
i have htc wildfire s (asia india version,build:2.13.720.1)
you can root your phone via unlocking your bootloader(s-on) and then use htc supertool.

lol dude wrong section, and u obviously cant read cos there is loads of ways to s-off and root. and if u bought it to develop
1: why not buy xtc clip, easy and fast only like 15 quid.
2: s- off by HTCdev definately works did it myself on cha cha but sure will work for wildfire s.
3: Simon's HTC Utility v4, [UTILITY]One Root for WFS Windows/Mac, rezo609's All-In-One Utility, and probably loads more that will work.

you cant S-OFF from HTCdev, only unlock bootloader... still wrong section though, and all your answer are here just search
I believe he is wailing about the new A510e devices that don't respond to CM kernels. Gingerbread leaves you with a black screen and ICS halts at the initial splash. I'm not sure how they expect any developer to fix an ethereal problem in a device they don't own. Most of the users with these devices haven't volunteered to help they just whine that their devices don't work with recovery x or that 5.0.2.8 gives them a Black Screen.
There is a workaround for the recovery issues but, it's a bit hokey.

[Q] AAHK wont work?

You can still S-OFF your phone.
After a while, the script might (if needed) try to download a PD98IMG file. When it gives an error simply google for the filename (might be PD98IMG-GB2 for example) and place it in the PD98IMG directory AAHK created. Everything should go well. I S-OFF'd my Desire yesterday.

Sorry KirovAir, but if the people you are advising to use the Hack Kit get stuck due to not following instructions or some other issue, will you support that? Because let me remember you that the Hack Kit is no longer supported nor here or in the IRC channel. Don't you think that what you are advising is dangerous and might leave quite a few fellas with their phones in a blank screen?

Thanks for the information!
I had also read about 'Easy Ace Root Tool' in dev forum. But I have a question regarding that.
- It says that only Custom ROMs can be installed, not Ported ROMs. What is meant by 'ported ROMs'? Will I not be able to install, say Sabsa prime or Venom's ROM(which are ported from One S and Desire X), if I unlock bootloader using Easy Ace root tool?
Also, does it support flashing 4ext recovery?
could you please tell me at least which version of aahk you used? already found in the web PD98IMG-GB2 and i am willing to do the proccess... already red many forums about rooting my desire hd. but since you did that proccess already i think you can give some reliable tips even if this topic is unsupported here. i know that discussing about aahk is unwelcome in the xda forum and i am sorry for this but i think you would agree that its the way with the most chances of success. or anyway could you suggest me any another way to follow?
thank you for yoour time

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash any recovery that is for the device (DHD / Inspire 4G), Custom roms built from source (CM) and modified sense roms work great. Ported roms I am not sure, but you can try it out. In the worst case scenario, you might get stuck in the splash screen and you will have to flash a different one.

No, Hack Kit is no longer supported anywhere. If you are willing to do it, you are on your own and will have to find information about it somehwere else. There are other ways to root or S-OFF the device that are supported here. So, please let the Hack Kit rest in peace.

You don't need S-OFF to root. You can just run this and you will be just fine. You don't have to be a programmer to root your phone, just do a little reading and searching will suffice.
