continuing developments for this phone? - LG Nitro HD

Mine is on ICS 4.0.4 official
so is there any light at the end of tunnel for us?
like rooted without unbricking, goin from a fresh start?
so far, ICS has out for almost a month and nothing came up as far as rooting.

You can root your phone, it's just almost pointless to do so because rooting won't get rid of your ****ty locked bootloader. Only "unbricking" to a Gingerbread rom will do that for you.

i was skeptical and hesitant to unbrick, but it was surprisingly straightforward. now running cm10 and loving it

What happens if you get the Froyo 2.2 update?

If one of us happens to get the update, and want to keep root....what do you want us to do with the update?
Don't install it. I'm not sure how to do that with an Android device.
However if it does get installed you will lose root. It could also cause some problems if it gets pushed to your phone.
The devs will have a rooted version of the rom before they will have a root method for the rom.
I think it is safe to say, if you want to keep Root, ignore the update prompt, and wait for the developers here to make rooted versions of the ROM.
The original firmware was rooted before the phone came out. (I don't know how long it took developers to actually Root the phone, since I don't know how long they had the developers release in their hands).
When the 1.47 OTA came out, it broke root, and became a mad scramble to try to re-root the phone. If I remember right, it took a couple weeks to find the workaround that would allow root.
It is a good bet that the new release WILL break root again, and there is no telling how long it will be before it can be rooted again, if ever.
is this a serious question? most updates will remove all hacked/homebrew stuff been hapning since the begining of time.......(i.e. PSP, Nintendo Wii, iPhone/touch......)just dont update...take this stuff to yahoo answers.

Update lose root. Period. Just wait.
ohh geez, be prepared for all of the topics like "just updated to sprints official froyo update and lost root can i root it back?" my gawd its gonna get annoying
i guess this is a noob question, but how long does it take to get a rooted stock rome of this 2.2? i would assume not too long correct?
usually same day.. its all about patience which there is little of.. i can guarantee you will have a stock rooted rom by this weeks end

Root before new phone activation?

So they sent me another dinc, not the dinc2 like they said. I guess there's no way to argue that eh?
Should I root it with unrevoked before I activate it to avoid the posibility of the GB update pushing automaticaly?
To my knowledge, you have to accept the update supposing it is truly rolling out. If Verizon really disliked you, the phone would have gingerbread pre-installed though haha
Go ahead and activate the phone and come back to the root side of Android.
Naw they didnt send it preinstalled luckilly,I'm also happy I have the inc1. Much more support.
I did get jittery and rooted it before activating. All the phone info pre-activation is the same and given how the changes are made in the radio. I don't see having a problem
Good to know. I wouldn't have though about rooting before activating, but you should be all set now.
Yup,activation went through without a hitch so I'm back in
Business(sense). One weird thing that happened was
my WiFi broke after flashing .92 hboot but after flashing
a rom it worked again. Im not going to think much of it
because everything is up an running

Is It Worth It?

So is the Galaxy Nexus worth rooting right now? I understand when i root everything will be wiped. So im just wondering should i root now? I'm not seeing any ROMs thats catching my eye. Maybe when Cyanogen comes with a official ROM.
It's not rooting that wipes, your phone, it is unlocking the bootloader that does it. But unlocking the bootloader is needed to root. So that's being pedantic.
If you plan on staying with stock, but being rooted, then you should do it before setting up anything on your phone, because you will have to redo everything.
If you are planning on flashing a new ROM anyway, then I don't think it matters because most new ROM installations I've seen tell you to do a wipe anyway.
But I would suggest rooting the first thing, just so you can install titanium back up. This will let you restore app data after flashing a new ROM. Unless you enjoy replaying all 100+ Angry Birds levels and re-earning whatever achievements that you spent hours earning.

Being able to use Titanium backup and doing backups in CWM is worth it.
I don't see a need to rush out and root.
Custom roms are still in their infancy. Google seems to be pushing updates pretty quickly too. Custom roms still aren't perfect yet.
There are launchers and mods that seems pretty cool but thats up to you. I know once I start down the dark path of flashing... I won't come back. So I'm sticking to stock for a while until Google calms down on the updates.

unlocking/rooting...superuser question.

Ok so I just activated my Gnex last night. I am coming from a HTC DInc with CM7, s-off all the goodies.
When my apps transferred over, so did superuser. I did not attempt to unlock the boot-loader or root this device yet. but I was under the impression that superuser could only be installed on rooted devices. But yet i have it on my stock Gnex.
Just curious what is going on here.
I will eventually unlock and root, so i guess it doesn't really matter since everything is going to get wiped when I flash a ROM eventually.
Thanks a million.
There's a Q&A section for threads like this.

[Q] Flashing ROMs looks cool! But.. what about my carrier?

I'll get this out of the way first, I'm pretty new to rooting and flashing ROMs. The only thing I've ever rooted before was a free Kindle Fire I got from Amazon, and got some version of Android on it a looong time ago. Now I want to get LiquidSmooth on my Galaxy S3 i747. I'm completely willing to follow all noob guides by myself namely http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802160]this one.
HOWEVER, since this is a phone from AT&T with a data plan, texting, and calling, and not some free Kindle with none of that, I'm extremely paranoid to do anything risking losing all these features. There's really no clear indication anywhere that this will or won't happen, since I assume this is either just extremely common knowledge, and most trouble shooting is about screwing up in general or bricking.
Rooting and flashing doesn't affect any if those things.
Think of it as a new operating system for your computer. New look, new feel same basic functions.

I have the same phone and there are a few things that are good to know that will help you and possibly keep you from making a bad choice.
Have you accepted the 4.3 OTA update from AT&T on the unit or...? If you have, then you have upgraded to a specific bootloader/modem and can no longer downgrade those items without causing problems.

If you took the 4.3 OTA AT&T ROM update, your phone has the 4.3 mjb bootloader.
To confirm which bootloader is on your phone, boot into download mode and let us know what it says on your screen.

If you did not take the update then you dont have these new items and your options are more open i guess.
First, your going to need to root your phone, without tripping the flash counter. There are lots of guides on how to do this, and it's pretty simple.
Secondly you will need to install a custom recovery such as ClockWorkMod or TWRP. I used CWM on my i747 and installed it using "ROM Manager" from the Play Store. It was amazingly simple and did the entire process for me.
Third you will need to choose the ROM you would like to try. There are a few different kinds, so happy hunting. I chose S3Rx and I love it. It's packed full of goodies and it seems that the Dev seems pretty good at answering any posts on his thread in this forum about the ROM.
Before you do any of that, you should verify what version your are running right now so you know what bootloader/modem you have, then go from there.
I just got back into this stuff myself and I love this phone. Good luck.

I had already flashed my phone after getting the verification from the last user. I was running 4.3, and am now running LiquidSmooth 3.0 Kitkat 4.4.2 now, with pretty much no problems at all. But thank you for your help.
