Was going to originally post this in the actual ROM thread but I just made my account so it wouldn't let me. I'm wondering how (if even possible) I would go about getting rid of the virtual buttons under the dock (back, home, recent apps). They take up a lot of space on the screen and are incredibly unnecessary when I already have hardware buttons. I looked everywhere so I figure its either not an option or I'm blind. Is it an Apex setting or what?
I know there are a couple other JB roms that don't have these virtual buttons that I have flashed but this one hands down has the best features and is the most smooth not to mention the working camera. The only other camera mod is preludedrews and that one has very limited customization so I would prefer to stick with this one.
bump!
Hmm, working camera, soft keys? What ROM are you on? You may still be on an ICS ROM.
Correct me if I'm wrong

No there are new BlackBean roms that have cameras working at 8mp and onscreen controls (which I hate). Search for BlackBean. He has a Baked and AOKP

Hi all im a noob at the whole flashing roms thing.
i have flashed leedroids newest rom 3.0.3 which as i understand is based on the leaked gingerbread.
i thought i read somewhere that gingerbread was supposed to get a revamped keyboard but leedroid still has the same keyboard as froyo.
so my question is
are there any roms out there that has the new revamped keyboard?
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/whats-new-in-googles-android-23-gingerbread-50001908/
as seen in the above link
Sorry, not exactly what you're looking for but I like LeeDroid ROM so in an effort to get you to keep it....
You can download it from the market. It's called something like "Keyboard from Gingerbread"
thanks i like leedroid but as i said i am just new to this so am going to try other roms 1st before settling on one. i was just wondering if anyone knew of one that had gingerbread keyboard
If you are not fussed about sense try an AOSP ROM like CM7 Cyanogen.
The sense ROMs use the HTC keyboards.

sorry should have mentioned yea i like sense.
ive just tried a rom that was supposed to have sense 3.0 in but was a bit laggy so back on leedroid atm
It is a great ROM. But like I said, you could always download the Gingerbread Keyboard app. Not perfect but is one solution.
I always treat Sense ROM's as something you have to make sacrifices with (as a fan of non-sense ROMs) and that's why CM7 runs on my phone a LOT more often than LD's.
i tryed gingerbread keyboard but like swypekey which i previously used it has no navigation keys. i have settled on leedroid and am playing with different themes now.
i have also purchased thumb keyboard because it was the only keyboard with navigation keys that i could find.
thank you for your help

That thumb keyboard does look good.
Swift has arrow keys but they are in a sub section (pressing "alt").
Good luck with it all, sorry couldn't have been better news.
I didn't see them but I only tried the 1 month trial. I like this keyboard as it has the navigation keys and i like the number pad in landscape mode
hey guys i am having a hard time finding the rom i really want it either leaves one of the features out or is too laggy. currently i am on a team-nocturnal g.b. rom. the features i want in a rom is non sense i hate sense it always resets on me. i also want a volume rocker wake option, i have tiny fingers i also want 4g i pay for it so why the hell not. and some theming options i have not yet found one the best one so far i have found is cwm however there is absolutely no theming if there is, it is not to my flavor any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Might I suggest AOSP? Perhaps Deck's? You can find different flashable themes in Evo Themes and Apps for it or download some from the Market. No Sense, has 4G, and you can find the volume rocker setting in Advanced Settings.

Don't mean to be smart-ass, but you sound too picky. Cant possibly eat the cake and have it too.
You will need to find a rom with most of your wanted features, possibly an AOSP one like cyanogenmod 7 as you dislike sense.
The theming part is comparatively easier, so find one that has all the features and apps you need. Then get one of the many themes out there for the T-mobile theme engine on the market/xda or help yourself to the UOT kitchen.
At times the ones that suit your flavour might need you to buy the dev some beer, and its worth it.
I am considering getting the Galaxy S3. I have been an HTC guy so far and like the phones and the XDA support. THe 4G I had was great and lots of ROM options and support. I then got a 3D and there was a fair bit less ROM options and due to the 3D and HTC's 4G, many did not have full functionality. I have heard Samsung is Mod friendly and that it is not hard to S-off and load custom ROMs and kernels. Is this true?
ROMS I have liked in the past (not sure if they are still around or on the samsung line) are Warm and VaelPak. I am also interested in CM9 and 10. Having not been active in a while I am not sure why I would go CM9 unless CM10 is not stable yet but that is part of the question.
One feature in particular that I liked from VaelPak and was told CM had it was the ability to set several gestures to unlock the phone. You could set one to just unlock, another to unlock and go to IM, another to unlock and go to camera and so on. So if any other ROMS have that please let me know.

i love htc phones, but since the evo lte didn't have a removable battery, i was done with them until they make one with. i was just going to stick to my evo 4g since lte won't be by me for a decade or so anyways, but the black friday deal was hard to pass up so i got the s3. anyways, its just as easy to root as the evo, and there's plenty of development. i rooted mine in 5 minutes. i'm using freegs3 right now, i just wanted something stockish that can be updated without any legwork, so that's the main reason i chose that. i don't know about the gesture unlocking, you could post on the thread for the roms individually and ask though.
In terms of being able to access camera and messaging from the lock screen, JB has that as a built in function as its swipe to unlock lockscreen. The stock rom with touchwiz includes it as well.

Can you choose different "swipe" patterns for different functions?

Normal TW lockscreen lets you add shortcuts, weather, ticker, etc. but doesn't swipe towards them like some AOSP but achieves the same thing. Keep in mind a lot of the custom roms give the option of using alternate lock screens (without having to use an app such as WidgetLocker).
looking for a new ics style rom. main focus is i really want it to be snappy but save the battery well on my evo 4g. i used to run CM, then decks, then decks reloaded, then tried strike and it wasnt working well, now running sonicFlame and its not to bad. just wondering what else is out there that im overlooking? should i switch to the newest CM? also what is now the best kernel? im using a tiamat sbc i think.
another question i had is there anywhere to get a nice pack of apps and utilites like decks reloaded comes with or would my best bet to be to back them up with TB and load them on the new rom i like?
also i really love having a unified theme. i used crystal full system theme but i am now looking for one that matches the ics blue. so if there is a full system theme anyone knows of or any icon packs that would go with an ics blue rom please post! is there any tuts or links someone has that i can use to try and start making my own theme or how to make icons and use them?
and does anyone know why my lock screen on SonicFlame rotates even when i have rotate off and the screen locked portrait? just bugging me, along with my button lights only working for a bit when i flash a rom then never coming back. happened the last couple roms i used. any ideas?
sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for the help!!
Well I will give you my thought on the button lights. I have noticed that if you use auto insurance brightness they don't work very well. Also when you go below a certain brightness they go off.
For ics kernel the Mason series is your best bet. I have not flashed many ics roms so not much help there. The few I tried were miui and evervolv.
A little hint. If you like customization I would say try out an miui rom. Then put on an ics style launcher. I hate the miui one myself too much like ios. Now you just find the launcher theme you like. You have a killer looking ics with the bonuses that you get with miui. You can filter calls with white lists, black lists, and calls not in phone book. Also set times to block calls. Built in backup app status bar toggles, and other miui only features.

cool thanks i have never looked into those before ill have to find one!
There are older ICS builds on goo.im
under miui and supersonic. The current jb release on roms.miui.us is laggy on lockscreen but not too bad elsewhere.
If you want pm me any questions you might have. I have tried just about every ROM on the site.

Why not just go back to reloaded? You may have given up on that one to soon..
Yeah. my button lights crapped out the first time I flashed an ICS ROM and never went back to working the same, no matter what I run now.
If you want the apps you have now, just back them up with TB or My Backup Pro.
Hey all. I have a ICS (4.04) Galaxy S 3 for ATT. Its been working for me great, but since i removed the bloatware like gallery and s-memo things like the copy/cut/paste and the little icon that takes to to your gallery in the camera app functions wont work.
What GSIII roms would you recommend? A couple things i would like is if the battery life is the same or better than stock roms and the home screens had a landscape mode as well as portrait. (And hopefully they work in nova launcher as well).
When i had my GS1 i used the AOKP rom and i loved that. It just didn't have the homescreen portrait/landscape thing. Thanks for your help!
Edit: Also, is ICS>JB or are there pros and cons on both sides?
Different people, different preferences.
therefore, look, read, and test them out yourself.

If you like aosp then flash task's 650 rom. Pacman and rootbox are pretty good too. I would update to stock jb before you do anything. You will find it much better than ics.

I have to agree that JB is better than ICS just seems smoother and more polished to me. As far as the roms go i am useing the official CM 10.1 and love it. But you reall need to look and test a couple of the diffrent ones to find what suits you best.
These threads won't last long.
Recommended way:
1. Read OP for ROM features.
2. Check for ROM threads on top n see atleast a few latest pages for any issues or thanks. These are best indicators of how satisfied people are.
3. I'm on JB and this is quite stable. So I can say there are some very good JB ROMs out there.
