Are there any FULL AOSP (no sense at all) ROMs other than CM6 RC1? I cant stand sense and have been looking all over for a AOSP rom with working 4G and 8mp camera.
Thanks!
I could be wrong, but i think they are waiting on the kernal for the 4G. I think i read that somewhere, but like i said, i could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
CM6 has 8mp camera working. Has been since day 1. If you think it's not because it doesn't fill up the whole screen, you are mistaken. By default HTC sets it to widescreen, but at that ratio it is actually losing resolution. People need to turn the widescreen off to get the full 8mp. The 6mp (wide) setting in CM6 is comparable to the default stock HTC setting.
EDIT: and no, there isn't any other true AOSP roms besides CM6.
OT: Can someone tell me what AOSP is?

More specifically, it is the absolute base of the Android operating system. It is where all the phone developers start, but then they weave in a bunch of their own custom software. I think the phone manufaturers want to differentiate each other and give them more of a brand (i.e. Sense). It's all fine and dandy, but some people just like to have the true base of the Android system and then choose what apps they clutter it up with instead of it being cluttered up to begin with.
Awesome, thanks for the explanation. AOSP sounds EXACTLY like what I'm looking for as I want to build my own android from the ground up...

Cyanogen is waiting on the kernel for 4G? There are plenty of custom froyo roms with root access and working 4G but none that dont have sense. Am I really the only one who hates sense? I cant believe that every custom froyo rom has sense!
Just download any rom, and run ADW instead. The only thing you're losing is the space on your phone that sense takes up, big deal.
ADW is the launcher used in CM, so if you liked that, you can have your stock froyo and 4g.
Also, it's your phone, and that's why we are here, to make our phones look and perform how we want, but what is it about sense that you hate? I personally think it brings a more human feel to Android. I ran with CM6 for like 5 days, and while it's a great ROM, I just missed the things sense gives you. I actually got better benchmarks on DC 3.5 than CM6 too, even though there is no actual noticible difference between the two performance wise.
A lot of people say that Sense isn't needed since 2.2, but I disagree, it's not just about the functionality, it's about the form too. Sense just plain looks better. It give the phone a more polished feel. Stock android is very Spartan, very cold. Some people like that I guess.
I for one don't like the forced integration of things like facebook in sense. I run a very spartan (to use your terminology) setup... I like clean... Same with my desktop pc. I don't like desktop icons either

the HTC 4G stack is propriartary. CM is AOSP.
Clearwire released their 4G implementation a few weeks ago. someone is actively working to get it working on the EVO.
we are impatiently waiting for 4G. only ROM's that are Sense based currently have 4G. AOSP will not. perhaps this week
and no...you are FAR from the only one that is happy to be rid of HTC Sense.
What about getting the stock Froyo keyboard? How do we get that on a sense rom?
Some people made 2.1 roms that were sense, but had most of the AOSP apps swapped in and sense replacements removed.
There are a couple kinda like that for 2.2, Android Central has a stripped rom, and FroYo fusion has a senseless version, but I haven't used it or even seen screenshots, so I don't know what it is like.
Avalaunch started on an AOSP 2.1 build, but he kinda scrapped it for his custom Sense stuff.
Right now the CM team is implementing everything from scratch, which is why some things don't work like 4G, and HDMI. No other phones had this before. The reason all the Sense Roms work is because the sense framework has all the parts that are needed.
One nice thing about CM is if you don't install gapps, you can get the source code to every bit of the OS running on your phone.

lulz.....
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I find it frustrating, but they do it because their target audience isn't people like you and me. They use a custom bluetooth stack so they have control over it, it is easier for them to make sure that everyone's expensive headset and car stereo work. They limit performance and graphics to get better battery life and stability. They created Sense to make the interface more appealing to people who would otherwise be turned off by AOSP and buy an iPhone instead (even though Android is WAY better for social networking integration).
I'm kinda bummed we haven't been able to just grab N1 roms and hack them over more often. It's kinda strange. The Aria (Liberty) had an AOSP Legend port within weeks of release. Here we are 2 full months out and we have ROMs based off HTC's work, and CM. That's it.

Also FM Radio, HDMI output, updating PRL.
Not complaining about the team douche work, but more that we don't have other devs working on AOSP. I don't care much about the missing features, and run CM as my daily. Sometimes I'll flash to a sense ROM to get 4G for tethering to my PC, but this is rare, and nandroid makes it very quick to flash back and forth when needed.
Actually... I thought Exchange support was there but just having issues for some (possibly many) people.

this is totally wrong. I live on Exchange daily for work. if CM6 were not able to get my exchange email or notify me properly I would be using it. I have been on CM6 since RC1 second day and most of the nightly builds since.

Youre right about ADW.. I already downloaded that launcher. However, I like the custom themes that come with the non sense ROMs. Such as CM6's music player, or the window pane (if you will) theme for the camera, etc. If you dont know how to program, which i dont, you are somewhat limited with what you can do in terms of customization.

This sounds like GREAT news to me. I hope youre correct. I think im just gonna go back to CM6 for now. It was a great rom and I can only use 4G at work so its not that big of a deal to me. The only other issue I had with CM6 was the inability to split a >160 character text message into two messages.
Can anyone remind me if the 8mp camera was working? I cant remember which kernel cm6 used.
The 8mp camara works. When you click the settings on the right of the screen the settings within the box that pops out scroll. 8mp is selected by defult
As a developer myself, just no in the tech field, I find it helpful to know what other want so that I can produce the best. I'm sure that most of you do this because it's something that YOU personally want and or like. I deeply appreciate the work that has gone into such wonderful ROM's and I can't wait to see more.
As for me, I've tried out RR, CM, SR, Frank, Jager, ASOP, and a few other odds and ends.
It seems to me there should be a blend. A blend between Sense and well....nonsense.
Currently, I'm on the Ultimate ASOP. This ROM has been amazing because of the ability to customize. Like every ROM, there are quirks or just small things that bother me, but it's SOOOO close to greatness, IMHO. I like a lot about a lot of ROMS but if they're lacking Sense then I miss that. If they have Sense, I miss the customizing of the Non Sense. My question is, can the two be made to be CommonSense?
What I'm talking about is a ROM that combines a little bit of the HTC Sense side with the applications and setting and customization of the Non HTC Sense ROMs. For instance, the email application in the Driod root IMHO opinion is much better then the Sense one. You can easily check multiple emails and the default background is back. What if you could have Sense, but change the lock screen to something different and be able to add different themes easily? There are several instances where the two could be combined to make CommonSense. And, if you have some ideas please share!
I guess i'm just looking for ideas from others that I can take a pitch to a Chef along with a few $$$ to make a ROM that'll do just that. Is there anyone else that thinks the same or I am the only one riding the HellaNoSense boat?
check out IncDoes AOSP. but you should have posted in q/a or general for future reference

Which doesnt seem to make a ton of sense to me. im sure the launcher pro dev would allow the use of his work cooked into roms with his permission right?

Minimalism.
Bare bones, minimal special effects, no clutter.
Basically a tiling WM or Openbox layout with basic text menus or no menus with touch commands.
Hopefully I'll be able to get into cooking whenever I get my machine in order. I've been wanting to actually contribute to some coding/hacking projects but I've never found anything of interest that would motivate me... until now :3

Want. I just wish android took more looks from webOS. It is so beautiful!
The look & feel of the new Sense UI (The Desire Z ROM specifically), the fastest and most optimized speed possible, working camera w/ 720p video (only thing wrong with Desire Z ROM, imo), lots of free memory, clear of all the bloatware apps, aaaaaaaaaaaaand.... Ability to quickly change theme settings (transparency, selection colors, etc).
Oh, and great dev support.

My perfect rom would be:
Sense based Vanilla rom
htc keyboard
htc camera
htc gallery
htc contacts
either HTC facebook or contacts syncable with market facebook.
emmc working properly
adw built in
customizations avalable in cyanogen's latest rom
power widget built in to notification pull down.
figure out how to change the answer/silence to tabs
reboot option in power menu
6 signal bars
htc battery icon with %
keep the colored sense settings menu icons.
tab or rotary music controls (hidden when not in use)
thats all i can think of.
Having tried just about every ROM out there (and a couple of them a number of times) I think the problem I run into is there are little things here and there that I like about each.
All of our tastes are different, thus we like different things. Some people like the circle battery mod, some people like the rotary lock screen, etc etc...
What would be really cool is if there were a way to easily choose the specific mods you wanted... kinda like picking out options on a new car.
Ultimately, I think the answer is a dev that is willing to build you a custom ROM to your exact specifications. Of course, this would come with a price tag, but hey, it's exactly what you wanted (and it would be worth it IMO... any takers LOL).
In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to get what it is that I want and experiment. It's been fun, frustrating at times, and I still don't have everything I like, but at least we have lots of options to choose from, and I'm learning something new in the process
Is it not possible to build a Rom with a bunch of on off switches that allow you to select sense or no sense , or give you the option for circle battery vs stock ....
IMO.... this would be the ULTIMATE Rom .....

@ The OP: Maybe you should initiate a poll.
There are some things from Sense that I find myself missing. I am hoping that the masses can assist in getting my tweaking right. The reason I am really excited about it is the speed. It seems leaps and bounds faster than any Sense rom I have run.
I am currently running version v.0.12.11.1.
City ID: I assume this is what gives me the City and State info when a call comes through.
LauncherPro. I can't deal with the way MIUI does the home screens, and Launcher Pro seems to fit the bill for the most part.
Weather: I am totally in love with the weather widget in the clock on sense, how it gives you the weather effects over your home screen. Is there a way to get this without the clock? I am going for a clean home screen but would like that weather.
Facebook contacts:Whenever I tell facebook to connect with my contacts, and only with ones already in my phone book, it still adds people. I want it to import only with contacts already in my list. Is there a way to get this to work right?
The other MIUI features I guess are not a huge deal to me. The lock screen is pretty awesome, it comes with the FM radio app for my incredible which is great. I really hate not having the app drawer. Overall the speed is what got me.
Is there a fast sense rom out there I should use instead? I assume I could mod things like the dialer and lock screen if I wanted right?
Any opinions and suggestions are appreciated and welcomed. I just can't sit still on a rom!

I have used it before, but it just seems sluggish compared to something like MIUI. Could this be true?
Forgive the noobish questions, but are there different kernels you can run with a rom for more speed?
I believe MIUI is somewhat of an AOSP based ROM (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and Sense based ROMs will always feel slightly slower than those.
HeyItsLou has a few kernels that he made that work well with his ROMs try 'em out
Both my Brother and I like the Sense UI, I am a big fan of Myn's Sense based ROM's after trying out the many other different ROM's based off CM 7, or other variants, I always come back to Sense.
Anyways been rocking Myn's RS 5 for months, my most favorite and stable ROM for me. I told my Brother he needs a good ROM, not just a standard root, he said he does have a good ROM, it's called HTC EVO 4G , meaning the stock phone, he doesn't see the point in what a sense based ROM could possibly add or do for him ?
What would you Sense ROM's guys/gals have to add or say to this ?
In my opinion, some roms might have a few tweaks in them but most of the roms that I see now are just themed stock roms.
I don't want to seem like I'm not giving credit to the devs for everything they do, but it seems like many "roms" should just be in the theme section as they are just built off some other devs work.

First of all, understand that his "stock phone" is Sense-based. HTC Sense comes default on the EVO 4G. Anyway, your brother seems to be totally satisfied with what he has and has no plans to switch. If that is the case, let him be. If he wasn't impressed with the classy and elegant look of Myn's rom then I doubt he'll be convinced to change from the stock Sense look....

Been wondering the same thing....
For the most part, seems like I mine as well re-flash to stock sense. Remove whatever bloatware/etc and apply themes as I like. With maybe a kernel change.
In the end, thats all a "custom rom" is if Im not mistaken... Kernel + Themes, sometimes with a poor implementation that causes things to break.

Some roms are just themes, other roms have some tweaks to them. Usually, people use the framework from one developer and just theme it up. Some just use a stock rom and theme it up.
Its not fair to some developers to say that they have not tweaked their rom at all but just add some color and a battery percentage indicator or a splash screen.
Taking a Sense 2.0 rom from one device and porting it over to a device that came defaulted with Sense 1.0 and making it work is more than merely adding themes. Furthermore, many of the talented devs started out by merely customizing their devices to suit their personal tastes, hence the name "custom" roms. Other people liked their customization which prompted them to make it available to anyone who wanted it. Still, custom roms are not for everyone. Guys like Myn, xHAUSx, Koni, TommyTomatoe and a boatload of others are very talented at what they do and should be recognized as such...at least in my opinion...

Sure, but what kinda tweaks are we talking about? Thats what Im asking more or less.
CM for instance, to me, feels like a stock AOSP rom with their custom Kernel. They obviously did a good bit more by customizing the kernel n such, but as I said before... I could just flash their kernel + use whatever themes I want, no?

My understanding is that battery indicator, boot animations, etc fall into the theme category.
Stock vs Rooted:
Rooted ROMs are optimized.
Better A2SD functionality.
Better battery life.
FREE WIFI TETHERING!
No bloatware.
Ability to theme.
Ability to do a LOT more things with your phone. Change lockscreens etc.
Ability to get full HDMI mirroring.
Sense vs AOSP:
AOSP is usually faster as Sense takes up space.
Sense has better widgets.
AOSP + 3rd party launcher like Launcher Pro + Beautiful widgets can give you the same things as Sense with a performance gain.
Landscape functionality for homescreens
Sense is a launcher. There are launcher replacements such as LauncherPro, ADW, and SPB Shell 3D. LauncherPro and ADW are more a lot faster than HTC is. LauncherPro has widgets for calendar and Friends which is similar to Sense. Beautiful widgets can give you a Sense like clock and weather animations.

CM7 RC3 is the only AOSP rom I used. Used it for a week then moved back to a sense rom. My main gripes with it were the lousy Dialer, Widgets, and I dont really care for the camera UI either. However someone in IRC pointed me to the GO Dialer, in turn I found Go Weather, Go SMS, Go Launcher... these have all solved most of my gripes, with the exception of the Dialer. CM7 RC3 also seemed to be rather batter hungry and always had an annoying notification about dialing *28 for voicemail when I had none.
Aside from this, don't AOSP roms also lack some core functionality that Sense roms have? I don't remember the specifics, but IIRC, no HDMI, many lack 4G, etc.

I also totally agree with this. It should also be noted that along with an upgraded sense, some of these other ROMs give you an update to Gingerbread. Just something else to take into consideration when it comes to reasons for switching ROMs.

In the past yes. I was on a sense based ROM for awhile but constantly switched between that and CM. Finally when CM7 reverse engineered 4G and HDMI, I've been rocking that out like it's going out of style. I just love how speedy and responsive it is. Thought honestly, in my opinion, if you put enough widgets and crap on the home screens like there are in Sense based ROMs the speed will even out. Just from what I've experienced though.
Hi everyone,
I really like Aopk and I have used it on my old S2. I was really exited when it came out for the S4 and I flashed it right away but I was really disappointed when I saw that the S4 features were not there. Is there a rom that is very similar to Aopk and has all the S4 features or at least has a very similar lockscreen (very important to me)? I looked at a lot of ROMs that have the S4 features but they look almost the same way as the S4 original look (stock). I wan't it to be stable because I use it for work and for school and I can't have it doing weird things on me. If there isn't a ROM like that is there any way I can take the Aopk ROM and take another ROM that has all the S4 features and some how combine them?(my only complaint to Aopk is that it doesn't have the S4 features)
Oh and by the way, I have the T-Mobile S4
Thank You
If by 'S4 features' you mean the samsung apps and TouchWiz UI then no. Those are locked into the stock rom. There are roms that remove the carrier bloat of the original rom while leaving TouchWiz and samsung apps intact, which it sounds like you have found. But I dont think its possible to add the samsung apps to something like AOKP. AOKP and AOSP are by definition open source so using the closed source Samsung software wouldnt make sense. Thats my understanding, I may be misinformed.

Thank You

Yea it's not really possible. The closest thing you would get is by taking one of the Google Edition ROMs and hacking in the features yourself since they do run on the TouchWiz Framework and Kernel, it's just stripped down to Vanilla Android.
By the features I mean NFC, S Beam, Air view, Motions and gestures, and stuff like that. Can you guys explain what you said in the previous posts a little more, because I have simple knowledge about ROMs but I am not all that advanced. Is there any way I can at least completely change the lockscreen to look like Aopk's if I can't have Aopk and the features?
Thank You

Stock ROM runs on stock everything, as well as Touchwiz Launcher.
AOKP,CM10, and AOSP Roms Run on Trebuchet, Nova or Apex Launcher.
Stock ROM has al lthese features built in, as well as proprietary files that are made just for stock Touchwiz Period. The have been signed and designed to work with TouchWiz Roms only..
Now if you want Aokp type Lockscreen, there are plenty of Mods and Themes that Can help You with that, PLENTY, Look in the THEMES & APPS SECTION of t he International Galaxy S4 section or the T-Mobile Section. Spend a little more time on XDA as well and you'll find the answer to your question in little or no time at all.
But In simple form, NO , Those features you listed only work on touchwiz Roms, and just a small thing as changing the launcher can disable som of them permanently.
If I help. Please Hit the Thanks Button

Unfortunately not. But The International Roms are feature packed my friend. Try The Omega Rom, and you can pretty much use the domination theme. P.M Me for more help buddy.
The closest you're going to get is to run Apex or Nova launcher and a AOSP based lock screen on the stock ROM. Not a bad solution and it will retain all of the S4 TW features.

Can you please give me a link to exactly what you are talking about(or download link)? I really want a lockscreen with a slider and you slide to an app and then you put in your pattern to unlock and then you go you your application you've chosen or to your home screen.

Lockscreen - Holo Locker Plus - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobint.locker.plus&hl=en
Launcher - Either Apex or Nova
I've been on CM for the last few years, but I've been running Wicked V4 on this new S4 and LOVE it. Since my OG droid in '09, this is one of my favorite ROMs. Performance-wise it's really really good. Best battery life I've every had on a phone (don't know how much of that is S4 and how much of that is ROM/kernel)
It's AOSP-ish in that it's fully debloated (no samsung or T-mo apps), and it's not themed. That being said, it runs on the TouchWiz framework, so you get all the S4's new hardware features.
It's also a little CM-ish in that there's some minor configurability with respect to the notification bar (clock colors, position, battery icons, etc)
Give it a try!!

I recommend either the infamous ROM or the Wicked ROM. 3minit settings (infamous) makes the phone very customizable. Wicked has (and is expanding) his own ROM control. I've tried both ROMs and honestly don't miss AOSP whatsoever.
It's easier to click "thanks" than type it.

Hi,
I really like Apex and I really like Holo Locker Plus so thank you for the suggestions but when I lock my screen and then press the power button 99% of the time Holo Locker Plus lockscreen does not appear it just goes to my home screen. How can I fix this? And how can I put a pattern lock on it?
Thanks

Not sure about the power button issue. As far as the pattern lock, it should display after the holo screen. Stock would work this way too.
If you like asop looks and theme try this this theme on touchwiz rom

Thank You for all the suggestions, I have a quick question though. Is the OMega ROM good and stable and will it work on my T-Mobile S4?
Yes, it will. Just make sure you flash a T Mobile based kernel afterwards. Otherwise you'll boot loop.

can you give me a link to the kernel because I don't have any experience with kernels and I don't want to flash the wrong one?
