Hi all im a noob at the whole flashing roms thing.
i have flashed leedroids newest rom 3.0.3 which as i understand is based on the leaked gingerbread.
i thought i read somewhere that gingerbread was supposed to get a revamped keyboard but leedroid still has the same keyboard as froyo.
so my question is
are there any roms out there that has the new revamped keyboard?
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/whats-new-in-googles-android-23-gingerbread-50001908/
as seen in the above link
Sorry, not exactly what you're looking for but I like LeeDroid ROM so in an effort to get you to keep it....
You can download it from the market. It's called something like "Keyboard from Gingerbread"
thanks i like leedroid but as i said i am just new to this so am going to try other roms 1st before settling on one. i was just wondering if anyone knew of one that had gingerbread keyboard
If you are not fussed about sense try an AOSP ROM like CM7 Cyanogen.
The sense ROMs use the HTC keyboards.

sorry should have mentioned yea i like sense.
ive just tried a rom that was supposed to have sense 3.0 in but was a bit laggy so back on leedroid atm
It is a great ROM. But like I said, you could always download the Gingerbread Keyboard app. Not perfect but is one solution.
I always treat Sense ROM's as something you have to make sacrifices with (as a fan of non-sense ROMs) and that's why CM7 runs on my phone a LOT more often than LD's.
i tryed gingerbread keyboard but like swypekey which i previously used it has no navigation keys. i have settled on leedroid and am playing with different themes now.
i have also purchased thumb keyboard because it was the only keyboard with navigation keys that i could find.
thank you for your help

That thumb keyboard does look good.
Swift has arrow keys but they are in a sub section (pressing "alt").
Good luck with it all, sorry couldn't have been better news.
I didn't see them but I only tried the 1 month trial. I like this keyboard as it has the navigation keys and i like the number pad in landscape mode

I'm not sure if a dev will see this (hopefully someone will), but is it possible to put the Android 2.2 keyboard from the N1 onto the Sense ROMs? I personally cannot stand the Sense keyboard at all, it just feels terrible, and doesn't seem very good IMO. I know on the Fresh ROM he had an input called HTC_IME mod or something along those lines, and although it looked like the Sense keyboard it was truly awesome (just like the 2.2 keyboard) if anyone at all knows if I could possibly put the HTC_IME mod onto the new 2.2 Sense Froyo or the N1 keyboard on the new 2.2 it would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is at all a noob question.
is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.

Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

I really like the browser from sense, I use lpp for widgets so I'm good there. I asked about getting some sort of plug in for google translate onto vanilla browser and got nothing but flame. Hopefully gingie brings this to us... I mean is there any other plug ins other then flash? Honest question

Hey, hope there aren't a lot of threads with the same question but i didn't find one.
I will root my Desire the next days and then want to update to a custom rom.
There are some things i really need:
1. A2SD (that i can store any apps on the SD card)
2. Stable (NO bugs)
3. Sense (maybe normal sense, but might be also a port from the desire HD/Z)
4. Fast-Browser WITH Flash
5. (not so important) a Rom which is not overloaded and themed, i like the way sense looks, with all it's fonts and pictures.
Would ne great if someone could tell my what rom he would suggest for me and my needs.
Thanks
iNsertCoin HD/Z Port 1.9.5
in the video the menu seems to be a bit laggy. and the equalizer doesnt work. not that i need it but i dont like roms where something doesnt work... why would you recommend this to me?

One more voice for "iNsertCoin HD/Z Port". I am still using older version "1.8f".. No FCs, very nice and smooth. No lags for me.
Cool sense Cool Z v6 (i can't get V7 to work properly(its still in beta))
The HD roms from my pov, the fonts too small for my old eyes

I have been using the REMIxHD and it all seems to work very well, very fluid lag free flash works standard browser so might give dolphin ago. But then again when I got the LG GT540 on 2.1 thought it was good at the time.
I am using standard leedroid 2.3d. Working great for me and fits into your criteria.

The phone runs an older verison of the ROM in the video, which was laggy. EQ does not work, desire lacks of hardware.
I think you should go with a 2.2 Froyo ROM such as LeeDroid and not the HD/Z ports or Gingerbread.
I used to have RCMIXHD 3.0 A2SD and had a great experience with it. Surprisingly fast.
If Sense is not a priority for you, I'd recommend Oxygen or MIUI XJ, way smoother than any Sense HD port.
I used to love sense too. Sense is lovely.
These days though I realise that it's just eye candy - free yourself and get rid of it.
Go for Redux 1.0.2 (Gingerbread) which is the fastest smoothest ROM I've used (and I've used a lot).
Launcherpro has some god damn accurate Sense style widgets built in, and you can easily mod its dock to look the same as the sense dock, so you can have the sense look and feel, whilst still being able to use all the free space that sense usually takes up
This is what I'm currently running and I'm really happy with it.

I had a HTC hero before and used Android without sense, but the audio player for example sucks ...
i think i will stick to froyo and sense until the official gingerbread+sense comes out and someone has rooted it and created a custom rom.
Or is there anything in gingerbread that ist better than in froyo?

Actually i think LeeDroid is overloaded. The pictures i've seen are full with custom logos, fonts, etc, etc.
I Just want the original sense/sense HD style.
What ROM would you recommend? What about the Rooted Stock Roms?
And another question: Does slowing down the CPU when screen ist of (what is possible in some ROM's) really help for more battery life? I'm not really convinced and afraid of destroying anything on my loved HTC Desire..

There is nothing like that in LeeDroid. i think you are getting a wallpaper
confused with the os. or maybe you saw a boot animation and got it
confused either way it is "stock" sense with tweaks and it runs very
nicely. I swear by it anyway and put it on all my friends desires.
I went to HD roms but they either start running slow or take
too long to open things like the music player, this all bugged me so i
ditched it. I got the feeling that it wasnt designed for this hardware.
It might be good by now but who knows.
With leedroid i set the cpu scaling to "smartass" so it dips when nothing
is happening or the screens off and rises back to the top when in use.
"ondemand" does the same i believe but each governor has its advantages.
This all helps battery life but i cant say how much because ive been
running it for so long i dont notice.
Leedroid also has an intergrated fix for the charge issue with sense roms where
the battery is never at 100% when you take it off charge.
Try StarBurst lite is what you are looking for,
its Stock Sense with simple D2Ext. Kernel is LeeDroid 2.3 from snq - major Battery saver.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916417
or try dsixda's Kitchen and cook your own Stock ROM with A2SD and just flash snq's Kernel.

Im using coolexe hd version 7,got a2sd sending apps to memory card. Batterys good, pretty much the same, but this is dependant on the amount of apps and things you get id say, The hd sense is much better in my opinion, more customization. Htc.com onboard but only some things work, lovely rom though id take that one a go,insertcoins good also, ive tried aurax also.all good.try them all mate, once you know the score test as many as u want!
A simple, stable gingerbread would be Oxygen 2.0.1.
A feature rich, fully customiseable alternative is the Cyanogen ROM (link in signature).
Choose whatever suits your needs.
I found this topic that is what I want to know. I hope it is not wrong to revive this thread.
I would like to root my Desire soon and update it to a custom rom.
There are some things i need:
1. Stable (NO MAJOR bugs -calls, sms, wi-fi, camera and basic functions should be working with no problems)
2. Android 2.3.4 or 2.3.5
3. A2SD (so i can store any apps on the SD card)
Would like to have, but not a must: Only if it works without laggs and buggs.
4. Sense 3.0 or 3.5 (for example like one from the desire HD)
I have htc Desire with official 2.3.3 Android (that I instaled from htc website) and is not rooted yet. I want to root and instal one of the newest android on my phone.
Therefore I would ask for some help, to help me choose the right one for me. I'm considering one of those:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250815
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
Would be great if someone could tell me which rom would you suggest for me. One of those 3 or perhaps one I misslooked.
I'm sorry for my spelling mistakes...
I'm grateful for any help or suggestion I might get.
Just installed Runnymede AIO V4.0 Special Edition, runs really smooth.
Before i switched to CM7, i used Insert coin and it was really really fast and was stable only reason i switched to CM7 was due to better themes and more settings
This is all really helpful, thanks so much to all you guys for doing this!!
My quick question on this, any of the roms that pretty much emulate a standard experience, e.g. the Starburst, plus app2sd functionality, any of these also support ad hoc wifi?
I believe there are ways of custom installing it, though are there (simple) roms out there which include it already?

Hey guys,
So I'm getting a little impatient with waiting for Gingerbread on my DHD and was thinking of going to CM7 now that its Final. Previous Custom ROMS so far havn't really done it for me. I kinda like the reliablility and battery life etc of the stock build.
Has anyone tried CM7 on the DHD who could maybe give a little account of how it worked out (battery life etc)?
Thanks

Battery life is superb on CM7 and much better than the Gingerbread Sense ROMs. I take it you have tried the latest Desire S builds? I recommend RCMix if you haven't. If you are wanting the pure Google experience though, you have nothing to fear with CM7.
Regards.
Stock rom offers a better connection between all the social networks, better stock widgets and htc sense camera app. hmmm i did have CM7 for while and i loved it but its just the camera app that did it for me, i guess im just too used to HTC sense !
I had no problems with CM7 either. Very nice rom. Camera App is nice. Audio is great. Having or not having HTC Sense is a big decision maker. Once or if you get bored of Sense, then you will really enjoy a rom like CM7 for all its other differences. If it could have the Sense Weather animations and clock, Touch Input keyboard and HTC Reader 2.0 - it could be my ideal rom at this point.
Although I'm a relative noob with trying the many Android roms.

The clock, albeit not with the flip function, can be found all over the internet. Search for Fancy Widget (Sense Clock) to find it. If you can't and desperately need it, I will pm you the apk upon request, although will have to dig it out first. Keyboard? I'm confused as to exactly what you mean, but you can use the HTC keyboard on CM7 as well as numerous other replacements. HTC Reader??!! No way! Aldiko and Laputa both make HTC's attempt look poor. Not to mention Kindle.
Personally, the slight nuances of pure Android are what I find hard to resist. The transition animations, which were present on the Donut Sense UI but inexplicably left out since 2.1, are a big one. I know you can find ROMs which include the different animations or use Launcher Pro, but they never operate 100% and stutter/glitch at random moments. Even the way the keyboard bounces onto the screen rather than just "appearing" gives a more polished feel. The clean simple UI, which lacks the clutter and plethora of menu's that Sense incorporates is a dream to navigate, and the overall speed of the OS is unrivalled. I guess for the "average user", Sense is a comfortable, intuitive blanket which makes Android accessible for the masses. In the Windows Mobile days and arguably when Cupcake/Donut were still in use, it was a necessity. Since 2.1 however, I feel it is no longer needed as the Android UI has evolved to a point where it should appeal to anyone.
Regards.
EDIT: Just seen your website Grant! Forgive the app recommendations, I see you are already well versed in alternatives.
Thanks guys!!
Im still not sure! I wasn't the interface i was worried about! I've given the customs a whirl and its been more the reliability and performance that have brought me back to the stock ROM. I've downloaded the CM7 zip! might give it a chance over the weekend before the week starts over! Ill always have my back-up for when HTC decide to give us an official release of 2.3.3.
Maybe ill never go back once i try CM7!
cheers
if your a gameloft gamer, i suggest sticking with a sense 2.2 rom. if your a audiophile, cm7.
So using it now! Love the look and feel except I find that its a big sticky when swiping between homescreens. Any suggestions?

Regards.
The Regina 3D Launcher is one I've only just heard of - thanks to Pocketnow.com.
For anyone who hasn't tried CyanogenMod 7 - there are some screenshots here.
I've only tried 3 Roms so far on Android. It would be nice to have an ongoing poll based on member's records or vote or something to see which ones are the most popular.

One thing I found missing is the ability to hide certain albums within the gallery. A nice feature when you've lots of crap on you SD card! Also having the GPS issue that seems pretty widespread.
Other than that, battery life = more awesome than Stock!
Situation:Currently rooted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912) and installed Virtuous Sense (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042). Although the Virtuous Sense DL link is dead on virtuousroms.com I scanned the end of the thread to find mirrors by other members.
Question:So now I run the 2.1 HTC Sense version the only problem is that on my G2 the "www./.com" button gets changed to a tab button (anyone have a fix for this specific button?), but I love it none the less. I've read (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837002) which remaps the buttons but I only want to change the "www./.com" button not the soft keys.
Question:Now that I'm into the flashing rom scene I was wondering if there is a more recent and/or stable/bug-less HTC sense UI for my G2?
Question:Also can anyone explain the difference between Virtuous Affinity, G-Lite, Quattro, etc.(http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/roms.html)? Are they just codenames corresponding to each newer/updated HTC sense UI or are they completely based on other UI's compatible to the G2/Desire Z?

A)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659080
that works on most roms and remaps a few things on the keyboard, though that sets the key to tab ...But to be honest im now Sure how to map it back to the default. maybe ask in there how to "undo" it? the developer is very nice and tried to help me figure out why it refused to map my keys. Maybe he can tell you what to do?
B)
they are just names for separate projects
G-light is the bare min OS, lightweight, nothing in it or on it. Non Sense, Gingerbread 2.3 with around 50-60MB of ram usage at boot. Speed and Battery are all its aimed to do (and be a phone of course).
Quattro is a full featured 4.0.3 rom
Affinity is sense 3 on Gingerbread 2.3 i think... (at least Version 2.5 is)
if you just click on the build pages they should have a nice description about the rom, its tweaks, its aim and its features
C) Not to that specific one.
and i know lots of people like the sense roms but... they just are too much Glitz and Glam for our phone IMO. IF you are going to run it, it will have lags, it will freeze on occasion etc (or at least every one i tried *sabsa, viper etc*, sabsa i even ran a 512MB swap... still lagged )
