I don't fully understand this. If I have branded soft it's obvious that I can't upgrade to any other roms with different CID via RUU, can I? What about flashing it via CWM, e.g. this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970 even if I have different CID?
Custom ROMs can be flashed to ANY handset, it's only RUUs that are bound by the CID

Hi!
My phone broke and now I want to try to get it fixed with warranty. I'm not sure if warranty still is available if I use root so I want to unroot.
I have read that all I need to do is flash the RUU, but which one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824357
And what will flashing it do? Will it remove CWM and everything else I was using to root? I remember that I flashed radio 2 times, had S-OFF and E-ON.
And then I will simply run System Update? Because it seems that RUU are firmwares that phones are shipped with.
yea, just flash a RUU.
Make sure you install the original RUU for the type of your DHD (i.e. WWE, Voda,T-Mobile...)
and if your phone is S-OFF, make it S-ON - S-OFF / S-ON GUIDE (guide for S-ON is at the end of the 1st post). Go into bootloader and make sure you have S-ON
--your recovery will be restored to original HTC recovery
Oh, but which RUU I need to flash? I remember I needed to do a downgrade and I think it was 1.72.405.3, not the R2, but I'm not sure.
Well, when you had your phone, was it branded?
if so, you need to find a brand-specific RUU.
If not, then WWE RUU is fine.
i would suggest the 1.32 FW (because S-ON requires temproot from Visionary+), then follow the guide to S-ON
What about radio? I have flashed the leaked gingerbread radio, wouldn't they be able to see that I have flashed a newer radio? Or the RUU flashes radio also?
RUU flashes radio too. But after flashing the RUU have a look into the bootloader, the device might still be S-Off. For S-On you need to root again and Use the easy radio tool to make S-On again. Then use the RUU again.
It still was S-OFF, but used Visionary and Easy Radio Tool to get S-ON. A brand new phone
Thanks!
Does it work the RUU to flash even if I come from an ext4 ROM (ARHD 5.1.9)?
Or do I need to format first by cwm 3.0.2.6 so that it is ext3 again?
No one any advice?
I am rooted and have CWM recovery installed and was all set to flash a ROM like I used to with my Samsung Galaxy S2 but I keep on seeing people refer to the CID and how important it is when flashing software. Does it only apply to firmware which has to be the same as the network provided firmware or does CID influence the ROMs?
The CID influences the RUUs that you will be able to install, you'll still be able to install any custom ROM regardless of your CID.
Hey
My uncle went back from Malaysia wih an HTC Wildfire S (A 510e with CID HTC_044) and asked me how to update it to european version (with french language), as i am an expert p) about android and stuff.
After few hours of searching and hacking, I've been able to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom (MHR).
Now I feel like there arealittle too many features there. He doesn't need to be root, for example, or reboot to recovery...
Is tere any way I could update the CID and flash an RUU? Every time I am trying a "fastboot oem writecid whatever" am getting an error. Zipped versions of the RUU are not flashable from CWM. When I want to flash the .img one by one, I get stuck at radio.img with "unexpected signature" errors.
Any idea ?
You may be able to do it with a goldcard or might have to flash from fastboot. Both methods are found here:
[GUIDE]How to update HTC Wildfire S/Marvel/A510e/GSM to Software Version 2.3.5
I have an Asian WFS and the goldcard didn't work for me. I ultimately had to flash from fastboot.
Thanks.
Goldcard doesn't work for me either.
I flashed boot.img and system.img, and it seems it is working well.
Hi, someone would know tell me how to remove the brand(Vodafone) from my phone?
I have the software number 2.17.161.4. OS= 4.0.4
I want to install a ROM with Sense and JB 4 +.
Someone would know give me a help?
To debrand, all you have to do is unlock your bootloader (at htcdev.com), flash Clock Work Mod Touch Recovery, and then flash any custom ROM you like. There are plenty of them available in Android Development section of this Forum.
As far as JB installation, I'm afraid that - for the time being - you will have to wait that JB is pushed to European HOXs.

So, if you proceed with the removal of the brand, I will lose my warranty?
If so, how can I return it? Just install a ROM with the Vodafone brand?
Sorry for my bad English.
Debrand is not possible
To debrand your phone you need S-OFF, and that is not available for the HOX.
Because you have a branded phone, you cannot go to Jelly Bean Sense just yet, your CID does not match the one you need to install a JB Sense ROM.
You can unlock via HTCDev, flash a custom recovery and flash anything, where you don't need to flash a newer firmware (Hboot).
Edit: You probably cannot go back if there is no RUU available for your device and brand. You could try to make a nandroid backup after installing custom recovery, but I saw some people failing to restore the nandroid backup.

By debranding, I meant removing Voda's bloat and apps. I also guess that's what OP asked for. Of course he can't change his CID without S-OFF.
With the rest, I absolutely agree with you.
And, BTW, my HOX was also Voda branded (CID: VODAP102), but it runs a custom ROM for months already.

You lose the warranty by the fact that you unlock your bootloader, and you can't return it, unless HTC service center can't tell the difference between "LOCKED" and "RELOCKED" bootloader (which they often can't )
To return to your stock you could either do nandroid backup, as said, or find proper RUU and flash it.
I am obviously new when it comes to playing with roms.
I have a problem with eroor reporting soon after booting and with voice calls my One V and I want to try reflashing stock ROM to eliminate one of possible causes.
So far I have unlocked bootloader and got root.
I have flashed TWRP and made backup of existing software.
I tried to flash Primo/RUU_PRIMO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.22.401.1_Radio_20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.120_release_273801_signed.exe from androidfiles.org
but as I understand I need RUU specific for my CID which is O2___001.
I was unable to find RUU specific to my phone so the questions I have are those:
1) Is there a way to extract firmware from other than my CID european RUU and flash it using TWRP to my phone?
2) After flashing say CM10 can I revert back to my existing phone state with stock firmware/kernel by recovering TWRP backup that i made?
