[Q] Few questions regarding RUU, ROMS etc. - HTC One V

I am obviously new when it comes to playing with roms.
I have a problem with eroor reporting soon after booting and with voice calls my One V and I want to try reflashing stock ROM to eliminate one of possible causes.
So far I have unlocked bootloader and got root.
I have flashed TWRP and made backup of existing software.
I tried to flash Primo/RUU_PRIMO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.22.401.1_Radio_20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.120_release_273801_signed.exe from androidfiles.org
but as I understand I need RUU specific for my CID which is O2___001.
I was unable to find RUU specific to my phone so the questions I have are those:
1) Is there a way to extract firmware from other than my CID european RUU and flash it using TWRP to my phone?
2) After flashing say CM10 can I revert back to my existing phone state with stock firmware/kernel by recovering TWRP backup that i made?

[Q] Update to newest official firmware on custom rom.

My M8 is flashed with Viper 1.6. I however wish to use latest firmware from the official OTA update, to get the newest radio etc. I am however unable to flash this.
I flashed the stock recovery, however the update does not succeed via fastboot. Error 99 something.
Are you able to guide me how to do this update. Is it at all possible, when not running a stock rom?
I would like to avoid going back to stock, to be able to do this, unless necessary, but I do not know if this is possible.
My former phone was a Samsung Note, where I was able to flash about everything with the Odin Flash utility. Is it simply because I am S-ON This causes problems?
In the Viper thread this has been asked, but no clear answers are given, as it is not viper specific.

First of all make it clear what you want to do.If you want to do OTA of viper from 1.6 to 1.7 you must have a custom recovery like twrp then go to settings->about->software updates. If you want to get official HTC's OTA then you have to be on Stock.you sshould follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235

You need to be S-OFF to flash firmware. You would need to go back to stock and apply the OTA, however, you can flash the radio while S-ON.
Thanks for your replies.
I of cause know I am unable to directly install the OTA.
I am interested in the radio and other relevant parts of the OTA.
Is the best solution to revert to a locked bootloader/Stock recovery, and simply update?
The radio itself I assume I can flash with fastboot. (fastboot flash radio radio.img)
The firmware however also contains the following files
Boot.img
Hboot
Radio
RCData
Recovery.
I am unaware what RC data is? Recovery is not relevant. Hboot, I assume an older version is better, in case a weakness is found in the old version, leaving boot and radio. Would you update boot? Do I gain anything at all? If yes, I assume I can use this command? (fastboot flash boot boot.img). Or am I restricted flashing the boot, as long as I am S-on?

Nandroid Backup Needed

Hello guys, does anyone have a 3.29.166.9 twrp backup? Or a m8 with cid-vodap110 so he or she can make a fresh nandroid backup so i can go back to stock. I tried x.x.161.x backups but they don't work with cid-vodap110. Vodap110 is specific cid for Swisscom ch. Thanks in advance
No one has it?
Why don't you contact the other guy that already updated to 4.xx.166.x
Ask him for system part only. Then you can use it to update by flashing firmware first.
(I have the firmware but no backup)
Are you running a rooted/modified stock ROM now ? If yes, you can backup that and upload for me.. I will try to fix the error.
If you're running a custom ROM, you can flash the updated firmware and then install a lollipop custom ROM ... this can be done too.

I'm running a 4.16.401.10 stock firmware, and it works great even if it's not for my cid,but i would like to have official ota and for that i need stock firmware. I contacted many users with .166 firmwares but no one want's to make a backup :/
You don't run 4.16.401.10 stock firmware but you run a stock 4.16.410.10 ROM.
You can flash your stock firmware 4.19.166.2 then run 4.16.401.10 .. at least you can have a lollipop firmware running a lollipop software.

Need to totally factory start my HTC ONE M8
Hi guys, i really hope you can help me here.
I have a HTC ONE M8. It is a UK version on EE carrier. the CID is ORANG001. in fast boot it is blank next to OS- (don't know if tyhat matters at this point) I have S-Off through SUNSHINE. I have no oringinal back up. I have tried flashing the recovery found in my OTA updtate and several others that say they should work in various other threads, all through ADB Fastboot says it sends and writes ok but has no effect.
I have unrooted, factory booted, and am at the end of my tether. EE will not replace the handset if it is tampered and i really dont want to have to pay for a totally new one.

T-mobile Firmware issue help required

i have a t-mobile version of htc one m8 but when flashing ROMs , i flash international version of the ROM which i'm flashing. The phone is sim-unlocked.
Lately i'm having problem of my phone getting stuck on boot and only way out is wipe cache and dalvik on every time i reboot. And also GPS is not working (tried every fix but no avail) I'm guessing his is some firmware problem.
So the thing is I want to get back to Android 4.4.4 version ( on which it was earlier before i flashed any Lollipop rom , so that i could flash T-mobile's OTA to Lollipop back ( for firmware update ) and after reading and some research , i have understood that i have to be stock recovery and relock the bootloader and get T-mobile RUU ( very confused about RUU thing)
Could someone confirm if this is the correct procedure and explain what steps i need to follow IN ORDER to get this done ( and if links to corresponding guides i will be really helpful) .
I AM S-ON.
Hboot - 3.19
Radio - 1.22.213311491.08G
Please help , really frustrated by these issues and apparently previous threads of mine have gone unanswered.
Unfortunately, if you want to revert to KK (or any older version), you will have to be S-off to do so. So, pay the $25, get S-off (which will helpfully unlock your bootloader at the same time), run T-Mobile RUU for desired version.
However, even if you are S-on, you should be able to use a current or newer RUU to get the firmware up to date, then move on to installing the ROM of your choice. You are probably better off going to the latest firmware and running an alternate ROM, but that's just me.

So if i were to follow S-on steps , i will have to first flash stock recovery , relock bootloader and run t-mobile RUU for firmware upgrade ?
When i relock bootloader everything will be wiped , right ?
So i connect my phone to pc with relocked bootloader and stock recovery and run t-mobile latest RUU on windows ?
Is this the correct procedure?

That is all true; except you do not need to install stock recovery to RUU.
Stock recovery is only needed to OTA, not for RUU.

Properly restoring stock system?

Hey everyone, I'm new to HTC devices so hoping to clarify a couple things. I read through the PSAs and the stickies but I'm still a little confused.
Unlocked, s-off, and assuming I don't care about personal data wipe, if I modify system and want to go back to stock system (no relock or s-on) can I just restore a stock system img backup in twrp? Is there a quicker way to go about this? Should I wipe system prior to doing this or does it not matter? I'm simply trying to remove audio mods that broke boomsound
Also, when it comes to updating, do you have to relock to accept an ota after restoring stock sys/recovery with s-off? Can you just flash the firmware zip inside of the OTA if you want a stock update while s-off or are there complications to this?
Lastly, can you use an RUU from a newer firmware than what you're currently running or does it have to be matching?
Thanks
RUU is a good method
for unlocked edition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/unlocked-official-ruu-t3378540
for Verizon:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/verizon-official-ruu-1-19-605-9-t3377586
will get you back to stock, You will have to reflash twrp however.
But it will keep s-off.
If you are s-off you can flash anything. regardless of what you are currently on.
From the other threads about updating. As long as your recovery is stock you should be able to take OTA's.

Watch out pointing to ruu files if you do not know the specific details of the device. WWE devices shoudp not flash sprint or verizon ruu files. Those things might brick the radio ! Being s-off doesn't instantly mean you can flash ANYTHING !
flashing a ruu is fine but keep it in line with your original firmware/build !
s-on : you can only flash a ruu that has the same firmware or a higher one as the devices firmware, you can not downgrade the firmware/bootloader
s-off : you can change cid and mid, convert the phone, flash different region firmware and downgrade the bootloader.
And no you do not have to relock anything. Just the stock rom/image and recovery is enough to enable ota updates
So, for a HTC noob, after flashing twrp/root, maybe changing system, how do you backup and restore back to stock? I can't find a clear guide on this, thanks
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
So I can extract the full FW from ota and flash it to upgrade without keeping personal data right? Will this update everything or just system partition? (do I have to find radio updates elsewhere?)
And do I have to wipe anything prior to restoring backup in TWRP for a clean install? Mega noob questions

Did you ever figure it out? I'm in the same boat as you. With past phones, I've always used Odin and LGUP. I have no idea how to revert on my HTC 10.

I answered this in the thread that you started.

Flashing roms without S-OFF

can i install roms and just flash boot.img afterwards and have it work with S-ON or is S-OFF mandatory i remember last HTC i romed was Htc one X and that one worked just fine and S-OFF wasnt even available for it so rom+boot.img flash was the only choice
to put simply can i flash rom with unlocked bootloader
and flash boot.img afterwards or will that mess up my phone dont want to risk it as if it wont looking for RUU for M8 is a nightmare as unlike lg or samsung you cant use any RUU
No need S-Off and no need to flash boot.img
You just need unlocked bootloader, correct version TWRP for your current firmware and custom ROM.zip to install
Most important is your device firmware must be on Marshmallow firmware to install current custom ROMs either Masrhmallow or Nougat.

Flashing boot.img after the ROM won't mess anything up, it's just redundant; since for this phone TWRP will flash boot.img along with the ROM (whether s-on or s-off).
Not all M8 versions have RUU, but if you give details about the phone, we can probably tell you if there is one. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting). This will also allow us to tell you if the firmware needs to be updated, etc.
Not that you would necessarily even need an RUU. For this phone, if something goes wrong flashing a ROM, you have plenty of options. Make sure you make a TWRP backup of your current ROM (will allow you to easily revert if you have problems), plus there is an awesome stock TWRP backup collection maintained by the guy who responded above, @ckpv5.
