Slim Bean Rom - Beautiful Look - (Q) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Is it possible to have the Slim Bean Rom ported from the Galaxy Nexus to our SII's ? Just curious, i know alot of members from the T989 forums like CM10 and Slim Bean is an amazinq rom and its only a 60-70mb Rom. So if its possible should we and will one of our greatly appreciated Developers qet it ported to our SII's? Let me know what you SII user think about the Slim Bean Rom

You can do it yourself porting ROM doesn't require and coding skill at all just gotta know how to use zip files and follow directions there is a thread on porting ROM just Google it. I'd link you as I have it saved on my computer, but I'm at work :'(

Thanks for your reply elesbb. I would love to port and make roms for the T989 but I fear beinq experimental. I would not like to brick my phone while i just qot tha Samsunq Galaxy SII in White yesterday. But i was lookinq at the Slim Bean rom on youtube that was recently uploaded and it seems sooo smooth and fast with the Galaxy nexus. I believe that it can run the same or even better with our SII. But if there is a developer that is willinq to port the Slim Bean Rom to our SII's please PM me if you come across this post and i will make the possible to help qet it over to the T989 section. THANKS FOR ALL REPLIES <--- Just for future reference

Well, from my personal experiments, I've ported HD2 ROMs to the s2. Many ran horribly, (being lack of kernel support) but it's almost very unlikely to brick the device by flashing things in recovery. The only way that will happen is by using the wrong flash file script. cause some scripts use different blocks of memory for the system and data partitions, hence why flashing an international s2 ROM will most likely brick our device. But if you use a zip found in the development thread, then extracting replacing and signing the new zip file won't brick the device. Heck I even put HD2 lib and hw files onto the s2. But since the partitions weren't messed up I could always get back to recovery. But I will look into the slim bean ROM. Can you link me to the YouTube video?

Well, ive never used a kitchen to port lol. I just copy system apps and other necessary directories to the appropriate place in the zip file then resign the newly ported zip. Its not easy, well it is if you take your time, but thats the thing, it takes forever but i'll check that out and see what i can come up with. *crosses fingers*

Thank u i really appreciate your effort. I hope somethinq can be made out of this. Finqers crosseddddd

Boot animation

So I love the new cm boot animation on the latest build of my kindle fire. Does anyone know how I can put it on my s3? I know how to pull it from the rom but would I need to resize it? And where would I place it on the s3? Thank to anyone that can help.

It would go in system/media I believe.
Don't know about resizing it. Back up th old one push the new one and see how it goes. Just rename it the same as the original

I believe you have to be running a custom kernel
Samsung uses some proprietary .qmg format or something like that, so you can't change boot animation on stock kernel

[GUIDE] dsixda's Android Kitchen - Now supports GS3 SGH-I747 (Windows/Linux/Mac)

dsixda's Android Kitchen - Now for Samsung Galaxy SIII SGH-I747
Compatible with Windows (Cygwin) / Linux / Mac OS X
The following is a guide to assist you with creating your own Samsung Galaxy SIII SGH-I747(M) (AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus) custom ROMs with the kitchen. This is NOT a guide to help you become Cyanogen or do fancy things with AOSP, but it may be your springboard to bigger things in the future.
Some of you already know about the Android Kitchen. It is a project I started on back in February 2010 to help newbies create their own custom ROMs and learn more about Android. As of the latest versions, you can now create your own Galaxy S3 I747 ROMs with the kitchen.
I have already posted an equivalent thread for the T-Mobile SGH-T999 Galaxy SIII, so no need for redundancy. The same steps will work for your device:

Oh yea!? Thems fightin words....
Thanks dsixda. Will be looking into your kitchen!
White Hot! GS3.
Nice! I have been using older versions of the kitchen on my GS3 to deodex with minimal issues. Going to update right away. Thanks Dsixda!
Thanks dsixda I have been using kitchen since the note even though it wasn't supported with 0 problems glad to see you are supporting the s3 even though I never had problems with it

dsixda: Thank you for such a great tool. I've written my share of scripts so I can definitely appreciate how much work something of this size has in it. I've used your kitchen for de-odexing pretty much every ROM I've built.
About that, does API 16 work with the kitchen now? Just curious.

Sorry of being off topic
Hi Dsixda
I'm a big fan of your work and I'm using your kitchen in my own custom roms
I don't whether you heard about this or not Qube 2 and me managed to port HTC one X rom to international S III. we still struggling with some stability issues along with ril issues as well.
Now I've got At&t variant of S III which has exact similar hardware of At&t HTC one XL. intially I thought porting would be easier as both has the same hardware but the rom won't boot and I frankly don't know why !!
I'm wondering if such a thing gets you interested to help me ?!
Now I'm really sorry to post this here and to use this thread for off topic subject.
Thanks and really glad to have you here.

Thanks for the comments. Na, I don't know anything about porting, and I'd rather not spend more time sitting at a computer, especially considering my health.
BIG thanks. Now to remember how to use the kitchen again…
Hi !
Great works !! Thanks !
I try it with a Stock ROM (Last Bell), and when I make the option 9 (Checkup), I have this error in the list:
>> ERROR: wiperiface_v02.so not found in working folder
Can I skip this error or how to fix it ?
Thanks !!
??
Also, someone have a good place to start to add MOD, THEMES, SOUND, etc.. to our custom ROM we make with this kitchen ?
Thanks !
Ok, it’s been a while since I used the kitchen. For my project, I’m using a stock rooted rom (UCALG1). I was hoping to use a nandroid backup from CWM. I use to do this quite often for the Nexus One. On the SG3, the nandroid backup files for the system are –
system.ext4.tar
system.ext4.tar.a
system.ext4.tar.b
The “a” & “b” have file size (different sizes) and the system.ext4.tar is empty.
There is only one boot.img file.
Looks like I can rename system.ext4.tar.a file and drop “a” and that will be the valid file to use. I’ve gone thru most of the steps, just wondering if anyone done this on a nandroid backup?

Status 0 error flashing.
So when I use the G1 ODIN rom base with the only changes being deodexing and rooting, I get a status 0 error on the flash.
I'm using the updater-script that the kitchen is making, to no avail.
Has anyone else come across this? If so - how did you fix it?
I am convinced that the updater script is the issue, there is some symatical issue in there - mounting something wrong I am not sure, though I could be wrong - often am.
I will try this weekend with a captivate stock rom and my cappy, but the target is the AT&T GS3.
dsixda - great work I love it.
Hi dsixda,
I’m using att’s new JB rom from mrRobinson in your kitchen. I mainly added some items in the /data/app section. When I flash the rom, I receive the following error message -
Status 0 – Installation aborted. Can’t partition non-vfat: datamedia. Can’t partition unsafe device: /dev/blockmmcblkpl. Can’t format unknown volume: /emmc
This has actually has been happening on all the stock ICS roms I have attempted to create in the kitchen. Must be something simple I’m doing wrong in the SG3. Never had an issue creating roms for the SG2.

Firstly, thank you dsixda for coming out of semi-retirement to get this working for the SIII--have used this before with the Vision/G2, and when New Phone Time comes around in a few months it'll definitely give me something to test the things I'll be playing with
For those who do use VirtualBox but really don't want to mess with the fail that is Unity in more recent Ubuntu versions, I have found (happily) that the instructions given for installation of the kitchen (in the "Mother Thread") can be followed almost identically with Linux Mint 13 (I used Cinnamon, though I'd expect Linux 13 Mate would also work)--use the "Ubuntu" settings for installing a disk image in VirtualBox, but otherwise it's the same except that (happily) VirtualBox Guest Additions and OpenJava JDK 6 are pre-installed (Yes, setting up a kitchen in VirtualBox using Linux Mint is even EASIER than Ubuntu.)
It's not really surprising that Mint works (it's an Ubuntu derivative except that it uses a different (and IMHO better) window manager based on Gnome3, and I've found it tends to have better performance on smaller systems)--definitely an option to play with for those with the disk space and horsepower to spare (and pretty much any desktop PC built in the past year should be able to handle this OK).
Now to play around with slimming down some stock ROMs in prep for a month or two from now

Stock ROM...
Ok, I've got JDK installed, Cygwin setup, and the kitchen ready to go.... Now I need to figure out from where I can get my base ROMs from. The original kitchen thread recommends to check stickies, but I didn't see a sticky containing unrooted stock ROMs for the Sprint SGS3. Does it ahve to be unrooted? I'd really like to play with the leaked LIH JB build, if possible; however the only versions of those I can find are rooted Odexed, or rooted DeOdexed. As Odexed is what we get from Samsung, could I push that through the Kitchen?

Hi,
The part you are referring to above (in the original kitchen thread) says "The instructions below are for HTC devices in general. For other devices, please visit the appropriate thread."
For your device, follow the guide that I linked on page 1 of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1939420
i.e. A stock ROM would consist of the files system.img.ext4, cache.img.ext4, boot.img -- or a TAR/ZIP file containing these files.
Just make sure you read the instructions very carefully, there is a lot of information out there, but if you follow the instructions at the link above then you should be ok.
Thank you!

Thank you for the quick reply! I had read that line, but thought that it was referring to file types that the kitchen was compatible with. I guess I needed to read it over a couple more times.
Thank you for this great opportunity!
I've had better success with making an nandroid backup and using that file to make a working folder off of. Works great for me. I have the LJ1 going in the kitchen now.

Miui Jelly bean Project for Xperia S(rom released chick devolpment thread)

hii guys
after CM 10 geting almost full working i'v decide to port Miui jelly bean for xperia S based on it
but i need some help from you guys
__
so if anyone can give a help pleas tell me
for now the rom didnt boot yet im still trying to know why
any body know how i can make logcat for the rom booting !!?
Which MIUI ROM do you use for porting? Only Nexus devices have Jelly Bean? I think Galaxy Nexus is the least bad.
i was on galaxy nexus now im trying the nexus s but bouth give me bootlop !! if you recomnded a device tell me because im not sure what device to use as base
For 2011 devices we use nexus s, but as Xperia S is XHDPI, I recommend Galaxy nexus.
Please get in touch with thetrisatria, he's the unofficial MIUI jelly bean expert

i want to know why the rom do not boot up
Hey sparxx
I've also tried to port MIUI Jelly Bean, even though I'm not experienced with porting and cooking at all. I have found this great guide where most of my knowledge about porting comes from.
To get the logcat of your booting device you need adb (included in the android SDK), and a PATH to platform-tools.
Open cmd.exe and execute 'adb logcat'
If you execute 'adb logcat >logcat.txt' you'll get your logcat as a .txt file.
Be aware of the big experience gap between knowing how to get a logcat and porting a ROM, though.
I'd be glad to help with this project, good luck.
I use the qtabd tool for logcat, has a friendly ui.
@jaapp, looks like I didn't help you further
Can you point out which file exactly gives you errors?
Via Tapatalk
I suggest a change of plans:
Maybe try to use HTC Sensation MIUI V4.1, it has the same CPU, so probably less fiddling with decompiling stuff is needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841196
They used Crespo as base though, so maybe the screen res doesn't matter, but CPU is more important.
All we need someone with knowledge with merging the framrwork jar
We have a bootup Rom but no ui showes up
We are close lts see what will happen

Just have to add a line to the kernel now to start shelld on bootup, no knowledge at all but i'm trying.
I've already contacted hei1125 to add the line for me, we'll see how it goes.
The rom boots up for the time being, MIUIHome, SystemUI, Android Keyboard and Google TTS FC.
I had contact almost with every body who could help
Will I had learn new things around but defiantly not the compiling part
I had contact Milad and he said he will work on it but he busy now
And another person who can help
For now we foucs on nepythys version JB hopefully he will make it work
Other plan is the ics
Lts see what we will get

I've got keyboard working now. MiHome isn't responding with 'waiting for miui.shell' error. It seems that MiHome needs the shelld service to be started, requiring an extra line in the kernel.

This is based on stock AT&T Jelly Bean 4.1.1 [DLK3] firmware and is rooted,
busyboxed, deodexed and has init.d support.
Devs and cooks, feel free to use this as a base for your ROMs.

Nice Job my friend always good to have a backup stock Rom Thanks for sharing.:good:

Thanks for making a separate thread for this, it's helpful. It should be known that enewman17 has the completely stock rom with root available in his thread as well as that used to be the purpose of his thread before creating his own custom rom in both odexed and de-odexed forms. For those who want the odexed form, please head to his thread. It's probably best to have this thread here separate though as it is easier to find for those who need it.
I searched before posting...I swear!
Also, for everyone I have a bunch of mods posted I'm my thread for use with the stock ROM.
It it's a good idea to have this posted separate, mine are hard to find.

Anybody who is new and wanting the stock ROM wouldn't know where to look but now they should have no problem. Thanks again, to both of you.

Is there a reason why the GOO download and the devhost one are 2 different sizes?
Devhost - 708MB
GOO.IM - 716MB
Just wanna make sure I am grabbing a good download right now!

No need to reply to the entire OP...
Thanks for saying something. The Goo file is wrong.
I just checked the MD5 with a utility and the Dev Host file is correct.
I have experienced several problem with files from Goo recently. This is the final straw. I will not host with them again.
Thanks again!

Everyone, if you downloaded the file from Goo please delete it and download from Dev Host.
I hope all of you routinely check the MD5 of your downloads.
There is a free utility here that I use.
Re: [Warning][ROM][Stock] AT&T Jelly Bean 4.1.1 [DLK3][22 Feb 2013]
Sorry for my reply methods, my bad - I posted kind of quick and didn't look back at it afterwards (didn't know it copied the entire first post, I hit reply not quote!). Anyway, I did verify the MD5 after the download and as I downloaded from Devhost first due to the much faster transfer speeds anyway it was good. I just wanted to bring it up while I was thinking about it as I knew something was awry.
Thanks for the hook up on an easy rooted stock flash for us all!

Some of you have expressed an interest in making a donation even though I don't want them (thanks ).
But if any of you have a few bucks to spare, we have a fellow xda member that could really use the money right now.
Please don't post saying that you donated since I don't want anyone to feel obligated to do it, or feel uncomfortable if they don't. Just be happy knowing you helped someone in need. Thanks!

It's just a ROM, like any other ROM.
Please help me
Thank you for the flashable stock rom this is very useful! Could you please upload DLK3 baseband cwm flashable please? I know this baseband improves signal and it was not included in the rom.
appreciate it ! Thanks bud !
On a side note Up,
I got a nice basic ROM done last night and added a few things I figured I could do myself to start out with like AOSP messaging and the remove the wifi notification, few more.
Went to flash and for the "3 args looking for 4" error. So I figured it out that I needed to pull the updated-script from a working ROM and replace the one that was in my ROM. Is this standard. I used this base, so did I do the update-script step incorrectly or miss another step ? Vague question I know... still a newbie haha
