well i would recommend u to play fifa with charging after ur HOX has been charged 50% & more as its more safe as with lower battery levels HOX becomes hot very fast while playing and charging at the same time
Due to the quality of the components used, some chargers can interfere with the touch screen when charging. I have two genuine HTC chargers, one has this problem while the other does not. I'd say the problem is with the charger, but just to be sure, did you have this problem with the same charger on the stock ROM ?
If you want more technical details about the problem take a look at this (page 4).
I used to have this problem. But it seems that after the latest ota the problem doesnt appear anymore. Same charger. Still completely stock.

For some reason my HTC at the bottom is getting very hot and rebooting because of it. I pulled the battery and with the charger in and battery out its still overheating. With just the battery it is also overheating and now it's not charging.
No software changed so it has to be hardware, can anyone tell me if their Desire gets hot at the bottom with charger in and battery out? If so I might be able to try a new battery (the current one isn't getting hot at all). Phone was bought second hand so I could be stuffed!
Cheers, Andrew
Sometimes with hard use (many downloads at the same + 720p streaming and charging) the battery take over 45C. But never reeboot. So i think you have a battery failure, or even worth, a motherboard failure.

I'm gonna go with what you said.
Doubt its the battery (not ruling it out though).
My desire kept rebooting when I used GPS / Wifi or mobile data. I just took it back.
Hope you're still under warrantee.
Nope, last phone I buy without one.
It's basically dumping all power including that in the battery into heat, I presume the GPRS chipset has failed as I lost signal. Battery drained extremely fast and now wont charge as the full 500mA from the USB is going into heat.
New mainboard time. Finding one though...
i doubt its a motherboard problem.
more just a problem with heavy use. maybe try not to do 10 things at the same time.
it is still a mobile phone afterall.
Err no, liquidmonkey it doesnt work like that.
IF its overheating to the point where its constantly rebooting, then its a hardware failure. All this stuff about putting phones in the freezer is a load of rubbish, just like the old Xbox 360 towel trick. If its overheating - its faulty.
just got my Desire back from vodafone, new mainboard, i already tested in sunny Lisbon (27c) working in the sun, for navigation in the car with google maps navigation, *
the old one, in direct sun lite it would not stay on for 5m.
Now it is ok!
and since it is a new mainboard and IMEI, i have a renew 2 YEAR WARRANTY . thx voda... lol
but that's not all, they also changed my screen from a SLCD to a OMOLED ???
and i don't think that's ok!
when i delivered my desire to vodafone, they lent one other htc desire to me, it also was amoled, but it add much better viewing angle, and less tending to blue.
my new screen was a very poor viewing angle because the colors tend to much to the blue when i tilt the phone, it also is very bright, does not have as much definition as the SLCD, and i think the one voda lent to me ad also better definition, but at least the black is really black and color very vivid!
do you think that what i have *seen, 3 different screen's in 1 week, and considering the characteristics of my new screen, are normal for amoled screen? ?
thx in advance (sorry for the inglish)

Mine will get very hot if charging whilst playing video or using GPS but I think its only rebooted once.
I have bigger problems with my other phone, in comparison the desire really is a cool phone.
I guess you could try under clocking it if you have problems?
I recently got my replacement handset through which is perfect apart from a couple of things. (Unlike the last one which had a loose screen.) but there is something bothering me.
First thing is that when the phone is plugged in on charge, the screen is quite unresponsive and choppy. Quite annoying but I rarely use the phone it's charging.
The other thing which is more of an issue, there is a slight lag or jitter when scrolling through the home screens. It's only slight, but annoying enough. It almost feels like a frame being skipped or something.
Does everyone else have that?

Yes, I am using the charger that came with it and no.... not using live wallpaper.
Only three of the screens have anything on them, only music widget and home screen clock so not much.
So frustrating because the screen looks perfect, no gaps down the sides to gather dust etc just this annoying couple of things.
I also get severe lag when using the phone on charge - but only if i use the charger that came with the phone. My old desire charger (and others) cause no issues and the screen responds smoothly. Plugging it into the supplied charger makes the phone nearly useless - particularly if you flick the home screens across, or make a swift move through lists. The result of a quick action is to load whatever you touched first rather than to scroll through - really annoying. Not sure if this is a hardware fault with the charger, or a firmware issue.
I get that lag on the first swipe after unlocking everytime! So its not a common bug?

Don't have any other chargers to hand.
Quite annoying though, because the battery life quite poor I often need to use the phone while it's on charge but it's just too infuriating to bother with.

I experience this the entire time it's on charge with the provided charger, not just the first swipe. I applied the OTA update yesterday and had hoped it would fix it, but sadly not. It's fine when charging on low power via USB from a PC, or from my other chargers.
It could just be a side effect from the 1A charging. Might be worth trying a 500ma one.
Yeah, strange that the other two official HTC chargers are both 1A, and they are fine. Starting to think it could be a faulty charger they supplied with it - might head back to the shop and ask to try a different charger see if it fixes it.
mine does this on both htc chargers (original 1x charger and my desire hd charger) its intermittent though, must be software tbh, as sometimes it actually carries on being unresponsive after i unplug, until the screen is switched off then on again
i've submitted htc a long list of the problems i had, and this touchscreen thing was in that list - so hopefully they should fix the problem soon
Home screen lag is blamed on the Sense launcher code, just like Sense 3.x and requires a hack to flatten the 3d widgets
try Apex launcher + 3D tablets scrolling mode to see the difference
It's not just limited to the home screen though in my case - it struggles to keep up in menus, lists, apps and messages. Hoping they fix this with a firmware update.

not if you make Apex stick and reboot

I had problems with lag in the beginning when I was running 1.26xx.
After unlocking an making a full wipe and testing custom roms then eventually returning to stock 1.26 and updating to 1.28 stock I am happy to say I have no lag whatsover, dont ask me why because I honestly do not know
Has anyone tried a 1.28 custom ROM to see if the problem is resolved?
I'm on 1.26 stock, but don't want to OTA to 1.28 (to maximise my chances of obtaining S-OFF)
Just as an update, i took the phone and charger back to the store and it was confirmed that the charger is faulty. It had the same affect on other One X's in store, a new charger was fine and my phone is now back to being 'lag free'. Thumbs up to Carphone Warehouse for swapping the charger over without any hassle. For reference, this was the new style UK charger which is very slim and looks just like a plug with a USB socket on top.

I was getting this issue aswell, hopefully when i get my replacement phone/accessories tommorow all should be good!
I have bad lag. I am not using a stock charger though and the charge rate is really slow. Will try OEm charger.
I am on 1.28 custom rom lee droid
Edit I think this may be related to a low battery state when charging?
EDIT 2: I dont seem to be having this issue anymore? Not sure why.
This jitter/lag is annoying as hell, after the first tries it goes away but comes back after unlocking the phone or exiting an app.
I 've tried stock rom, ARHD rom, PKMN Charmeleon 5.0.0 , stock kernel, Franco and Faux Kernels, Ultrasmooth Rosie, factory resets, etc. Its still there.
Finally solved it by installing APEX Launcher and now I am jitter/lag free! I lost HTC widgets but overall sense and PKMN tweaks are there as well as HTC wallpapers, lock screen so I am happy now.
Only it bothers me to have APEX on top of Sense UI eating up memory but thankfully Apex doesnt seem to consume a whole lot more.

I also had to install different launcher to remove lag. Will hopefully be fixed soon. You can try some roms which allow you to choose sense or no sense launcher. I had renovate, has all the sense stuff but nova launcher.

Hello guys, my problem is that on every rom I tested sometimes (there's no rule for it) my touchscreen stops working, it's looking like I was scrolling very slowly when I'm not. Solution is to lock screen and unlock again, so this isn't very important to fix but I just wanna know if I can do something with it or its for example low polish electricity sorry for my english.

Hey All
Today I picked up an HTC One M8.
Have set it up and only had it up and running for a few hours.
I plugged it in to charge using the charger that came with it and noticed that the screen would become erratic. Phantom touches would register making it very hard to use. Have tried it in different sockets but the issue remains.
I have tried a spare charger that I have in the house and the issue is not present.I know the HTC charger is a little different in that it supports some kind of quick charger, so its not really a like for like swap I guess.
Is there a chance that the included charger is faulty? Or could the phone be at fault?
I really don't want to have to return it but will it it looks like its the phone that has an issue.
Thanks
Well, at this point its hard to guess from here. Can you upload some snaps/videos ? It would be helpful for anyone who visits the thread. It doesn't take much time either. :good:
Is it a brand new phone? if not I think the digitizer is going bad.

Do you have a case on your phone? I have a UAG case and the charger sometimes doesn't fully click leading to that behaviour. Without the case there is no problem using the phone while charging.
Maybe the stock charger is faulty. Probably the wires has lost continuity.
I have the same issue with a unofficial charger (2.0A).
No issue with original charger (1.5A)
You are not alone
I also have a HTC One M8 with the same problem!
I have to disconnect the USB cable so that I can use the phone correctly without 'phantom touches' activating things I didn't want.
A classic example is pressing the back button will more often than not take me to google now. It's not supposed to do that. It only ever does this when charging.
Also when using any app the phantom touches will activate things I didn't want it to. Some apps will indicate which button you clicked and this is the perfect way to see this problem in action, because buttons will be clicking that you didn't even touch.
It's almost like the touch screen becomes ridiculously sensitive and even just a touch of breeze from a fan can activate a phantom touch.
My phone has done this since brand new. I've had the phone for around 3 months now. There was a software update since I had the phone and it didn't fix the problem.
It does this for me with the stock USB cable, samsung USB cable, generic USB cable, charging from AC/PC/Car it doesn't matter.
It even has the problem when the battery is at 100% with the cable connected.
The only way to accurately use the phone is to unplug the cable!
I'm in Australia on the Telstra network

Erratic Touch on Verizon HTC One M8
This has been driving me mad.
Got Verizon Variant Red HTC One M8 near the beginning of August.
I bought a spigen clear case, a longer usb cable, and a 2AMP charger to use at work. I was chewing through the battery while playing Clash of Clans on it at work.
I pretty much always turn on visual feedback for touch on my smartphone now and noticed sometimes while playing Clash I would see multiple touches go in a horizontal line across my screen (if you do not know you play clash of clans in a horizontal position so technically the lines would run vertically down the phone)
I also have a tempered glass screen on my phone so I figured it was some kind of freak nuance with the case pushing the glass or something.
Bought a UAG Case for my phone, few days later I notice the same behavior, bought cases have a small "lip" to protect the screen if you drop the phone face down, I again figured this must be the culprit and bought a new case.
Barely there Clear case by casemate, I have had the case for 3 days and today is my first day at work since, immediately upon connecting my charger I noticed the erratic touch behavior.
At this point I realized it was never the case, it has to be something with charging in general or the specific charger I am using.
Anyone got any clue what is actually causing this issue?

Hi guys, any news?
I'm experiencing the same issue and this is driving me mad.
Experiencing this with different chargers. My cover is a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Metal Slate...if I put it off, theres no problem while charging
Greetings from Switzerland
Hi guys,
I have faced the issue as well. In my case, if I charge the phone using the dot view case then the touchscreen behaves wrongly. However, if I charge the phone with no case at all it works fine.
Anyway after I flashed the latest firmware (.401.6) the problem is gone. What firmware do you have?
Cheers.
Hi Guys,
For anyone interested, I have just noticed that it happened depending on the charger also.
Cheers.
I have the same problem

If it's brand new, take it back for a replacement. The sooner the better because the longer you wait, the more they may think it is user caused.
I just got my phone replaced due to bad mic. I had a brand new one on release day and now I got a refurb both suffered the same issues. It's not always that it does it but it certainly pisses you off. Same symptoms as the op describes, I have yet to find a permanent solution.
This is so super irritating. I feel you. I just found out though that it occurs when I have my case on.. So whenever i use the phone when I'm charging I have to pull the case off. It really doesn't make any sense lol but this is my workaround for this bug.
I also have the same problem
It seems to occur when the phone is close to full charge. Every app goes crazy. When I unplug the charger it returns to normal.

I have the same issue with mine; I found a website which said to do the following:
Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.
You should also calibrate the finger touch on your screen to deal with the keyboard issue.
Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
Tap “HTC Sense Input”
Tap “Advanced”
Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
Now you are asked to type the given sentence
One done, Calibration Complete message appears
Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default

It's still present, but it hasn't been as bad - I turned on the visual feedback in the developers settings, and you can watch the cursor fly all about the screen like it's possessed!
Same issue here, on the latest software. This is my second m8 with the same issues.
