Hope you can help! - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

When i place a call and put the phone to my ear and then pull back away the screen does not "wake". It stays de-activated, no matter what i do. Eventually the only thing to do is to hold the power button down long enough for the phone to reboot.
Stock ROM, no root.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
I posted this on Q&A but got no response. I know this is where the smart guys in the room hang out so figured i'd have better luck here.

try a nandroid restore and see if that fixes your problem and if not then wipe everything and install as sprint ruu rom and one more thing . Post questions in the Q&A forum... they WILL be answered.!!!!

Not sure about that one. All I know is that I've had this same problem before and had to install the RUU to repair it.

I know this might sound weird but I had the vibration in my EVO start to get weaker and then stop altogether. Turns out the little spinning vibrating motor got jammed.
I fixed it by standing on my bed, holding my phone parallel to the ground, screen facing the ceiling and dropping it from about 3 feet onto a pillow. The jolt kick-started my haptic feedback back to life! Test it by holding the Vol Down button until your phone enters vibrate-only mode.
Hope that does it!

Thanks! I've been lurking and doing a LOT of reading and learning since last December (mainly in the development forum) But I think I'm ready to have a voice and use the knowledge I've acquired to help out my fellow flashaholics!
Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread! See you guys around and good luck with the vibration problem!

SINGAPOREAN DHD USERS~! I need help! ):):

Hi, calling all Singaporean DHD users here! I'm having a problem :X
I'm intending to send my phone for warranty tmr, because my screen suddenly has a blue tint to it. So as i'm looking for the proper RUU to use, my phone screen went off. totally everything is black. I can boot (hear the custom bootsound)but it's black everywhere. Major screen hardware issue i guess. But! This makes it so difficult for me to even do a factory reset since i cant make the steps without even knowing which button i'm hitting on a practically blank screen. I was thinking if anyone of you has went back for warranty and is there a particular RUU i can request for? As far as i know, RUU can be install via the PC right?
Really really appreciate any help here for this Poor DHD dude T_T
So,
You create a thread in the Development section. I move it to the General section. You then think its wise to create a duplicate thread in the Q&A section.

[Q] Rooted phone and now wont turn on

I recently Rooted my sealed samsung galaxy s3 without having a clue what i'm doing i downloaded this program called snapdragon to root it along with ODIN. The phone rooted fine everything was working okay, I even downloaded an app to see if the root was successful and indeed it was. I shut the phone down wake up in the morning to turn it back on and I get zero response. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Might seem obvious, but have you tried leaving it plugged in for ten-fifteen minutes?

Yes of course I've tried leaving it plugged in for several hours and the night before the phone was at 100% charge so I doubt battery is the issue.
Tks though
Did you try booting into recovery?

Ummm seems like u can fix it.... go bak to stock using odin as well and go back to stock and i believe cwm is going to be gone so as your root access so re-do it but this time guide yourself through a turorial(a.k.a google) and since you have to clue i think the best choice for you is to find a video tutorial in case your doubting or getting confused with the steps or sometimes to see what you did wrong that caused the phone to misbehave...

This is why I hate one-click-root kits, you get people doing things to their phones they don't understand, wreck it and come here saying "help, I don't know what do do!" Something like this you really should at least understand the basics. I hope this gets you more involved in researching what's actually happening. It's important to know what's happening to your device as well as why, that way if something goes badly you'll have an idea of how to get out of it.
Sorry, enough lecturing, let's see if we can get something going here. Give a bit more detail about what happens. You're phone is shut down, right? You hit the power button and no response, like the battery is actually out of the phone, or does it turn on and give you a blank screen? If it was a brick, I'd think you'd at least see the boot screen before everything goes wrong.
Ok, I'm going to go ahead and assume you've removed the battery. If you haven't, do so now.
If it still won't turn on, try actually holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds. I had a scary moment with my phone yesterday, rebooted it running Wicked v5 on Trinity and the screen just died. I've been running that rom for a week with just a couple of issues here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled the battery and tried again, nothing. After holding the power button down for a bit I felt a quick vibrate, then the boot logo came up. No idea why, I'm going to have to look into it.
Beyond that, I'm brand new to this phone and Sammy's Android devices so I'm still learning myself. HTC phones I could help out more with, but I'm still a bit clueless with this thing.

Yes I have taken out the battery replaced it several times. I hit the volume home and power button several times. When I do that I get a zero response nothing shows up I hear no sound its as if the phone is just completely dead. One thing I did realise is when I plug it into the computer and press the power button what would happen is it would connect and automatically disconnect
Can you get into Download mode? Volume down + Home + Power button?

Don't forget to let go of the power button when going into recovery.
Have you done what the other post said?
Hold power for about 10-30 seconds. Does it do anything? Do you feel a verrrry slight vibration?
When you plug it in without doing anything else does the computer see it in device manager? How about if you press power once? Or holding power down?
Does it register that its charging?
This may sound dumb but did you try powering up without the phone plugged into anything?

Ummm. Sorry but maybe im missing something? Your first sentence in your op says you didnt have a clue what you were doing....
And where is it supposed to infer that you've done everything already?
Imo you have been getting 'real' advice but from what I see you haven't 'really' answered anyones suggestions.
No one can help you if you dont tell us what exactly you have tried and what what happened when you did.
For example in your only response you mentioned hitting the volume and home keys a bunch of times....what exactly do you mean by this? Did you hold them while trying to power up? Volume up or down? Did you release any of them during that process, and if so which and when?
Its kinda hard to help someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing and only responds that hes done everything common sense dictates.
I seriously mean no offence but to me common sense would dictate that you not try rooting or anything if you know you dont know what you're doing.
It would also dictate that if you want further help with this you should go back and respond to what everyone suggested.
Like I said, im not trying to offend, just help.

I am having the same issue
I just tried flashing Android Revolution to my phone. I went through the whole set up process. Went to reboot then it went blank. Nothing. I get nothing when I plug it in. The computer doesn't recognize any device attached to it. I've tried all the ideas listed here and I get nothing. It's as if the phone is completely dead. When I flashed the rom my battery was at 90%. I've used various roms on different phones and this was the first time I did it to my Galaxy s3 and this is the first time it's ever happened. Talk about frustrating.

Phone Constantly Vibrate and Won't Boot

SGH-7989D
This phone will sometimes partially boot into the OS but constantly vibrates. It's running stock firmware. When I put it into download mode it vibrates and goes black and just keeps vibrating, this black screen and vibrating has now become the phones native state. The vibration almost seems like a boot loop but I've never seen this happen in download mode before.
Any suggestions?
Sticky power button
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Sounds like a sticky power button. If you're willing to take your phone out you have a possibility of fixing it.
The original thread from where I learned how to solve this can be found HERE.
I go into detail on how I was able to fix the problem myself HERE.
Good luck!

[Q] Power button broken. Need to change batteries while out!

Hi,
Basically the power button on my rooted Xperia Play has lost all function as a button. The LEDs still work, but pressing/holding it does nothing regardless of the phone's state.
I used Button Remapper to set the Search button to act as the Power button (locking the screen, power off etc.) however this only works when the phone is on.
I'm in a situation where I will be using my phone for long periods of time away from any computers/chargers, so I have some spare batteries for this occasion.
The problem now is that should I need to change the battery while out, there's no way for me to turn it back on after doing so!
I was wondering if there were any tricks to circumvent the power button when the phone is off?
e.g. other button combinations, change battery during reboot, delay reboot (command/app)
please note: I wouldn't want to (and probably couldn't) go in and try to fix it manually, I don't want to risk breaking anything!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I woke up this morning and when I took my cellphone i realized that my power button doesn't work anymore
i've did the same things you did. and any help i get i will post here :good:

I've had no luck or replies from the community yet.
Maybe posting this in a section of the forum with a larger user base would be an idea?
