I installed Kies (including USB driver) on my Win7 x64. However, Device Manager showed "unknown device". The Windows notification area shows ‘The driver cannot be installed correctly for the device’.
I searched on Internet for solution. I found one talked about below options when dialing *#7284#,
UART (MODEM/PDA)
USB (MODEM/PDA)
They said ‘USB’ should be selected as ‘PDA’. And my GS2 ‘PDA’ is already the default setting for USB. However, when I switched the USB option to MODEM, my computer started to recognize GS2, ‘your device is ready to use’.. That was magic.. And the Odin was able to recognize GS2 in downloading mode (it showed COM7).. My questions are:
1) What does MODEM/PDA mean here for USB? Why MODEM works for me while PDA works for others?
2) While my GS2 connects to computer, I scroll down the notification bar, it shows ‘MTB USB’.. Can I run autoroot oneclick in this mode, because they require ‘USB Storage Mode is OFF’. However, I could NOT find bellow USB mass storage setting in my GS2.

Your phone needs to be in download mode for Odin to work, not booted to the OS. To get in download mode, power off the device, hold volume- while holding press and hold power, you will get a prompt, press volume+ , you are now in download mode

I know how to switch to download mode, actually I have no problem using Odin to flash ROMs..
I am wondering why USB/MODEM matters to me if I want the USB connection to work..
And I don't know if MTP USB mode is equals to Mass storage or not..
I need to shut down mass storage to run autoroot..

MTP is the media transfer connection, its ics new version of USB mass storage. There's some apps on the market that will do USB mass storage, I think one is called USB switcher, and another is USB storage watcher or something like that, I saw u say PDA and modem and thought u were talking about Odin cuz those are 2 of the slots in Odin, phone, PDA, modem, PIT etc lol. But yeah USB MTP is the media transfer protocol works like USB mass storage mode just under a different name with slightly different options. I haven't used the MTP too much cuz I'm on aosp so it still has mass storage mode on it.

Hi, I am just wondering why I can't install USB drivers for my phone. I have tried everything that I could find but I still can't make my PC "see" my phone. I tried HTC Sync and that didn't work either.
Does anybody know why this is happening? Is there some driver issue that I am not aware of? Thanks in advance.
What does your PC say when you plug the phone in via USB?
What does your phone do when you plug it in? (You should see options like in the pic below.)
If you have Windows 7, after plugging in your phone - try Windows Update.
If the phone does nothing when you plug it in - have your tried another USB socket?
You could try installing android-sdk_r10-windows.zip
There is a USB package that comes with it which might help but it probably won't. (You shouldn't need any other part or package that comes with it though.)
Edit: Does your PC see other USB devices?

What does your PC say when you plug the phone in via USB? It always attempts to install the USB drivers but it always fail to find one.
What does your phone do when you plug it in? (You should see options like in the pic below.)Yes it does show those options and I always choose "disk drive"
If you have Windows 7, after plugging in your phone - try Windows Update.Already did. Nothing comes up.
If the phone does nothing when you plug it in - have your tried another USB socket? Yes I have, it always try to do the same thing. I remove the USB Drivers from Device Managers but I always end up with the same failed process.
You could try installing android-sdk_r10-windows.zip I already have but nothing happens.
Edit: Does your PC see other USB devices? Yes it does. All my devices are using USB connectors (keyboard, mouse, usb hub, etc.)
I am not considering my phone as a faulty one as I tried to connect it to my Mac and it functions as a disk drive although it disconnects itself on the first minute of it being connected, must be because of some app or something, then functions normally. I hope I can fix this soon because I need to root.

Did you solve this problem? I have the same one.
A bad USB connection can cause these problems, use USB one if on a laptop or one in the back of a desktop model.

Try to use the other USB cable or origin USB cable.
Try one more thing. Change a new SD card
Is it second hand phone ? If yes, no comment and too many possibility.

Hi, I too am having this problem, just got a DHD but when plugged into pc charges but no promt for anything else like all other htc devices. Tried different htc sync suite versions and singular drivers, changed sd cards and cables but still nothing. Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
It depend of the ROM you have (the picture is for a sense rom).
On some you can choose an action to be always performed, so it never prompt.
Go in your settings.
And... clean the phone usb connector. Pockets are sometime dusty
Blow in the connector and try again. Easiest problems are sometime the ones we forget.
which rom do u use?
If you're running Windows 7 64bit, try deleting all driver files via Device Manager, then booting into Windows with the "Disable driver digital signature enforcement" option, then plug in your phone and try to install drivers.
Sorry for slow response.
Im running stock everything to my knowledge, and on xp, tried cleaning usb port, still nothing. Haven't tried different comp, will now...
Edit, tried Vista, nothing. Dunno what to do next.

Even in charging mode your phone should be detected. Most likely your cable is only for charging or it is damaged. Could also be your phone's micro usb port is damaged. If you are getting nothing on 2 computers it has to be one or the other.
What mode do you have your phone in when you try to connect? In Disk Drive mode your sd card should be detected as a removeable hard drive. And the drivers for this are included in all windows OS. No need to install any drivers for this mode.
Also many have issues with HTC Sync. Try installing MyPhoneExplorer. You can get it from The Market. And it will give you a link in the more information part to install the needed desktop software for your computer. Works well and has many features.
I cant seem to get odin 3 to work on my xp computer(service pack 2) Tried it on my friends computer (window 7) and worked like a charm!(on stock samsung usb cord) Here the crazy part, It recognizes the phone when its on. Try a different file in Odin .... are you trying with only the EB13 file ??
computer wont recognize phone in download with odin. But it will when phone is on and usb debugging is on
you are starting odin first then plugging the phone in while in download mode?
yes message pops up at bottom of screen saying device is unknown or malfunction. Its like the computer acts like their aren't any usb drivers installed.

This might seem like a trivial answer, but have you tried rebooting your computer?
Then, as stated early, re-open ODIN, put your phone in download mode, then plug in the phone?
yea even tried pdanet and that didn't work. Restarted and tried nothing. I guess its that time for a new computer

Went out got a compaq window 7 modem for a good price, and it works like a charm!! Now its time to flash this phone!!!!
I need some help! When I plug my Epic Touch into my pc using the Samsung usb cable both the computer and the phone beep and the battery charges but the phone does not show up under "my computer" and the usb icon does not show up in the taskbar at the top of the phone screen. I've tried enabling usb debugging, same results. The phone does show up in "device manager" under ports when it's plugged in. I've loaded all the drivers also.
Some history, I purchased this phone the day it was released and had it immediately flashed to Boost Mobile. It worked perfectly for two weeks. A friend put the zedomax root on it for me and it immediately got the LOS issue. I used odin to flash the stock EG30 stuff back on and it was back to normal and has been working perfectly for the last few weeks.
I just came across sfhubs automated root for the stock kernal. I'm trying to run the root but the computer will not see the phone so I can't run the program.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
A little more info. When I plug my wifes Nexus S into the same computer with the same cord the USB icon immediately shows up on her phones task bar and the phone is visible in "my computer" a few seconds later.
Her Nexus S is rooted and has also been flashed to Boost
Also, the Nexus S shows up in "device manager" under "disk drives" and under "universal serial bus controllers" but does not show up under "ports".
My Epic Touch does not show up under "disc drives" but does show up under "universal serial bus controllers".

Epic 4G Touch USB Mode
Found this thread and it reminded me that I had set my phone to CP but even reading the thread I still wasn't sure what I needed to do.
I was working with the phone to collect performance data on the network and since I really didn't know much about what I was doing I was just following directions I had been given. I started to think about when I had put the phone in diagnostic mode (CP) and started wondering if there was a different code to take it out of diagnostic mode.
Just wanted to add a little more detail in case anyone else is a noobie and not sure what to do.
##8778# enters diagnostic selection mode.
The three options are ..AP ..CP ..ALL
AP or ALL will allow connection via mass storage device.
To change the mode, simply type #8778# from the dialpad again and change the mode.
Verified on SPH-D710.
Thanks.

Have you installed the official Samsung Android USB drivers,
Code:
'http: org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=4507874&CDCttType=SW&ModelType=C&ModelName=SPH-D710ZKASPR&VPath=SW/201109/20110916042342248/Sprint_d710_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0.exe'
. The device should appear under SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface instead of Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

I have the same problem..
Ok great, so maybe we can work together.
tommorow im going to buy a blackberry micro usb cable and test it out,
I hear the oem samsung cable doesnt get the job done... which seems ironic but its worth the 10$.
Odin supposedly works best in windows XP and can be finicky, but truthfully my phone is not detected anywhere by windows 7, so i'm suspecting that its the cable, or the usb port on the phone.
Drivers are installed, and the phone gets to Download mode, so its a connection issue.
I have a gold tipped cable made by gigaware from radioshack and my pc still cant detect the phone.
I also placed the ek02 stock rom on the sd card and the phone simply cant read it.
I created a more detailed thread here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442190
Anyone else have to jump through some kind of hoops to connect to PC? I can't get my PC to see the Mix 2 at all, for file transfer or anything.
Did you install the drivers? I remember doing that when I first connected.
Also, when connecting your Mix 2 to your PC via USB Cable, check the notification/pull-down bar & look for the USB menu ,select Transfer Files or Transfer Photos (PTP).
It may take a few tries when 1st using the Mix 2 (or any new phone) but, afterwards, your PC should have no problem "seeing" your phone.
Good suggestions, I had checked already. Thing is, the PC doesn't see it at all so no way to assign a driver. In other words, there is no device in device manager without a driver. As for the USB options, tried bouncing that around and no change for any of the options with and without USB debug enabled.
My S8+ is seen fine, but it is like the Mix 2 isn't even plugged in from the PC side. I even reinstalled Android Studio a d tried all again to no avail.
Only thing I can think of is to try to USB cable that it came with but that is at home and I am at the office. Damn I hate when phones don't have SD slot, grrr.

Hello, anyone. I have the same issue... different cables tested and drivers installed. I only see : "mi mix 2" on the PC but I cannot access storage and it is not recognized by Mi Suite ....
Sorry to say, i have same problem, it is not driver issue, it is just the phone with usb cannot be recognized as a plugged in devices, but i can see charging....
sorry to come with old posts, but this really sucks, maybe the chipset in the mix 2 or mix 2(s) is malfunction.

how did you figure it out. I am facing same problem as well. It does charge the phone but cant find in explorer
I'm actually having the same problem here, any solutions yet?
Hi. I have the same problem Please share if you found how to fix it.
I have Mi mix 2. after copy of large iso file, can't transfer files -- It gets stuck in the start of the copy and after I get error that device has disconnected.
I am unable to see the files on my Google Pixel 3XL when I connect it to my Windows 7 Pro computer.
When I connect the phone, the computer makes a sound (as expected). When I change the ‘Use USB for’ setting to ‘File transfer’, the computer makes two sounds (again, as expected). However, after making this change, my phone does not appear in Windows Explorer.
When I change the ‘Use USB for’ setting to ‘PTP’, the computer makes two sounds (again, as expected) and the phone does appear in Windows Explorer, but the only two folders made available are DCIM and Pictures.
I went to Control Panel->Device Manager and saw a Google Nexus ADB Interface device. I tried ‘Update Driver Software’, but was informed that I have the most recent version.
This problem occur both when the adb server is running and not running. It also occur both when USB debugging is enabled and disabled.
The problem is not the cable or the USB port – they are the ones I used to root the phone. And no, the rooting is not an issue as the problem existed prior to my rooting the phone. I found this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/pixel-3-xl-usb-connections-file-t3864057, and tried as suggested, but that did not resolve the problem. (In fact, changing the setting had no effect – after rebooting, when I connected the device to my computer, it defaulted to charging.)
I tried this on two USB2 ports and one USB3 port – no change in behavior.
Any suggestions for addressing this problem?
Try deleting the driver and let it install again.
I should have figured that out. Thanks - that worked.
Sorry to jump aboard, but I have the exact same problem. Was able to unlock bootloader and root, but can only transfer files in PTP mode. I can then transfer them on the phone to the correct place, but this is obviously a poor excuse for a workaround. Deleting and reinstalling drivers did nothing.
Any other thoughts?
Deleting and reinstalling worked for me...
I just attached my phone to the computer, selected 'File Transfer', and then open Device Manager. The applicable driver is the Android Sync Composite ADB Interface for which I show a version number 13.0.1202.0 with a date of 2 Dec 2013.

The device is only listed (as a camera icon under other devices) when it's plugged in. As soon as I remove it it's no longer listed under device manager. Should I do this while it's connected?

Yes.
No luck for 3XL on Q beta 2
Hey all,
I'm having the same issue on my Win10 PCs. I've uninstalled the driver in device manager (Listed as Pixel 3) and have tried both PTP and File Transfer. I'm going to guess that it's due to something in the 2nd Android Q Beta but I can't be sure. I've attempted to use both the android file manager and SanDisk Memory Zone to move the files off but neither work as well.
Attached is a picture of how my PCs see the files. They are not view-able nor are they transferable.
