CM10 back to Stock rooted via nandroid? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Do I have to worry about bootloaders or can I just clear data/wipe cache + dalvik and flash my nandroid?

I nandroid back and forth between CM10 and other ROMs that I have nandroid backed up all the time.
Those other ROMs were not the stock ROM but I would think it doesn't matter which ROM so I think you would be safe.

You just restore your backup. You don't even need to clear anything.

restoring backup

I am a currently running swagged out stock but would like to see decks ics ROM, would backing up sos and restoring to it after checking out the ics ROM be fine? will i have to wipe anything between the two ROMs?

Just do a back up via recovery. Then flash your new from. Afterwards restore via recovery and you will be fine

Yes, backing up your rom, trying a new one, and flashing back is perfectly fine, everyone here does it.
Just remember to wipe everything BEFORE flashing (restoring). Restoring a backup is just like flashing a new rom, you need to wipe before flashing.
I never wipe when restoring a backup. It's just an image.

Also, just an FYI - backups WON'T work (or maybe worse than just that) if you repartition between bking up and restoring.
It's only Flashahol, try a sip...

[Q]Sticks on bootscreen after restoring backup

hi,
a few days ago I installed Chobits digitalis v2. I made a back-up with cwm. But, I wanted to go back to the stock rom, so I restored the backup, but it sticks on the first boot screen(see attachment)
Then I installed chobits digitalis again and it worked. But how can i get my backup or the stock rom back without losing my data?
Thank you!
Always Make data/cache wipe before restoring a backup.
Backup your apps with Titanium Backup so you can restore them in other ROMs.
When restoring to stock ROM, if you get a bootloop then enter recovery mode, wipe data/cache and reboot.
Press 'Thanks' if I helped!

I made a data/cache wipe, but it didnt work. But actually i want the data from my backup back..

the reason i think is the kernel
you cannot restore the CWM backup because the kernel is different . go back to stock kernel first
Hi,
I still have chobits digitialis v2 and I tried to install the EVO-X2 rom. And, offcourse, I had the problem again. Can somebody tell me step by step what I have to do to install the EVO-X2 rom?
Thanks!
EDIT: Anybody?
Anybody?
You can try to format your system, then wipe data and then install the rom

flashing rom without factory wipe? possible?

Hey,
A question about rom's - when i flash a new rom do i really need to do a full wipe and factory reset? wont it delete all my programs messeges etc? is it possible to flash without resting everything?
Doing a factory reset will wipe all your data, apps, messages, etc. It will not wipe your internal or external sd card though so you can always restore backed up apps if you use TiBu or any app backup program. Also, create a nandroid backup through recovery and you can always restore it later or restore certain apps from it using TiBu or other apps. And yes, you can always try flashing a new ROM without a factory reset. Depending on what rom you're coming from/going to will determine whether or not you will have issues.

Thanks for the replay, im going from stock to custom rom do i need to wipe?

Custom ROM meaning a cm9/10, AOKP, AOSP ROM? If so, then yes. If you're just going to a stock-based ROM, then no, you'll be fine.

[Q] Noob Nandroid Restore Question

I know this is probably a dumb question but I searched and can't find the answer.
I recently flashed CM10. Before I did that I made a nandroid backup of rooted TouchWiz.
I want to go back to rooted TouchWiz.
Does anything special need to be done before restoring the a nandroid backup?
Or is it as simple as just choosing the restore option and then selecting the correct backup.
Thanks.
Just choose restore option then wipe cache nd dalvik cache

So that's wipe cache and dalvik cache AFTER restore, correct?
Yes

When I restore from nandroid, I just restore.. No clearing etc but whatever makes you happy. Never had any problems restoring..

So, how do i restore a rom?

Yeah, I kmow it sounds noob but here is the thing.
You do a nandroid backup, then i restore it, simple as it is.
But should i completly do a clean up be4 doing the restore and does the restore be as good as the last time I used it? Or will it have some issues after first restore?

Restoring is better and less work than flashing through odin.
No wipe is neccery with restore..I personaly prefer Twrp cause it saves your efs and modem in seperate partitions for easy restore.
yes I know, but what are the steps so I can fully restore it as it was before without any bugs or failures.. only tap on restore?
Yes just tap on restore; it automatically wipes and restores each partition you've backed up.

in my experience, I always backup the ROM I'm using before flashing any new ROMs
in any ROM backup, I recommend that you checked the boot, system & data (I use TWRP recovery) if you want to revert to it later on
if all three items are checked, you can just restore it & it'll be the same as when you backed it up
as for the wipe, I always wipe (data, cache & dalvik cache) before flashing &/ restore anything, just to be on the safe side
