They can but you have to change a few files to make it work. A custom kernel that supports it is recommended. However if ur on a stock kernel,
Go to /system/bin/ and find the file called "samsungani" and delete it. Then find the file called "bootanimation", and rename it to samsungani. Place the downloaded bootanimation.zip in /system/media/

im new to themes and i cant figure out how to push the nexus .zip file into system/media. im using root explorer

this worked on my phone with Blazer 1.8 and the JellyBean Theme 13.0...however, it did NOT work on my wife's fully stock, rooted rom. it didnt crash or bootloop, it just didn't show anything, it was all black until the lockscreen popped up...
any idea?

needs to be a stock DeOdexed Rom.
Sent from my JellyBombed Galaxy S III.

oh that sucks. will have to convince my wife to try a custom rom at some point.
josh, any plans to put out a custom kernel with freeza's fix integrated?

No. I'm not a kernel dev.
In fact I have found the most stable kernel with best battery to be the stock LG8 kernel. U lose custom boot animation, but its such better battery.

Cool Boot Animations ?

Anyone got any cool boot animations for galaxy s2 . Post here !
We can now use boot animation .zip's with CF-ROOT Kernel here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399)
Custom boot animations and binaries
CF-Root also supports custom boot animations:
- /system/media/bootanimation.zip
- /data/local/bootanimation.zip
And custom boot binaries:
- /data/local/bootanimation.bin
these are nice (the droids) :

btw using the stock rom
Stock ROM (actually kernel) doesn't support bootanimations.
Will these work on a stock KE7 kernel at all? And if so where do I place them?
Super, thx perfekt work
You need the CF-Root kernel for bootanimation.zips to work I believe.

Back to the stock S boot animation I like how it says Galaxy S II at the bottom.
Maybe someone can create one with the Galaxy S II text flying in or something? Or maybe a variant of the BIOS boot animation for the S II?
.
I've found the perfect program for boot animations. There are over 200 animations and they are easy to switch. Also there are many for our screen resolution.
It's called: "Absolute System Root Tools" and it can be found on the android market. It works without problems on my cooked and rooted rom.
Android Astronaut Animation can be found on SGS1 themes forum .
Not a zip its done in the original qmg format and just replaces the originals in system/media .Works on stock roms .
Copy here sorry can not find the original post credit to the originator name unknown . Unzip and place the two qmg files in system /media after backing up the originals .This is not a boot-animation zip file .

i wonder y hasent anyone spoken about galaxy s2 not having bootanimation.zip at the first place :S n its a stock rom rooted with a different kenel, not CF-root.
can anyone shed some light on this please
I haven't tried to customize my boot screen yet, which is surprising considering I've created plenty of them. The only downside(upside) is the boot up is really quick.

Yea thats what I love about this phone compared to htc phones, I can boot into recovery in like 5-10 seconds and flash something then be rebooted in another 10ish seconds. I LOVE this compared to the waiting game I used to play with my desire, especially as im a flashaholic.

Ok I just made a CWM zip file, should work, haven't test it just yet though. (Will not work with Talon based kernels because it needs to be renamed to sanim.zip) (Lol I just tried it, yucky ... really blurry)

Custom boot animations and binaries on GINGERBREAD ( CF-Root versions >= 2.9, broken in 2.8 ! )
CF-Root also supports custom boot animations:
- /system/media/bootanimation.zip
- /data/local/bootanimation.zip
CF-Root v3.0 and up also support:
- /data/local/bootanimation.bin
according to the dev's page it does follow the instructions above
download the bootanimation.zip direct from the media fire link on first page and then move using root explorer

I9000 BOOTANIMATION Zip || Original Standard Stock Galaxy S Animation

Some Custom Kernels replace the original Bootanimation because "Custom Bootanimation Support". So here is the Original as a Encoded Zip-Version.
THIS IS THE FINAL LAGFREE-VERSION FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S.
if you want to make it smoother, just read this . but i have modified the desc.txt and for me it looks like original
perherps it is necessary to rename in sanim.zip or bootanimation.zip
1. look in your folder /system/media for sanim.zip or bootanimation.zip
2. note permissions
3. replace with new zip and set noted permissions
4. be happy.

smooth means the speed of the animation
the attached file in post#1 is not for flash.
semaphore supports custom bootanimation. you can easyly replace bootanimations, see the instructions in post#1
- use a root explorer like "ghost commander"
- go in your folder /system/media and look for "bootanimation.zip" or "sanim.zip"
if you don't understand, just post in your language, perherps someone can help

if you have semaphore, you can use the animation.
try to mount system and flash.
if you've done look in the folder /system/media
last tip: just ask at the semaphore thread for instructions.

maybe you have to rename it in sanim.zip or bootanimion.zip or something similar
just take a look for a single zip-file in /system/media

go into recovery, try wipe cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions

Custom bootanimation is usually named
bootanimation.zip or sanim.zip
Look in /data/local or /system/media
Rename the custom bootanimation, and SGS default
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
is shown at next boot.
Unless default is missing, there is no need to install the file provided in this thread to revert to original Samsung.

no after flashing value pack for the second time i got the boot animation back, but my problem is that it is laggy.. So i wanted to replace it with a smoother bootanimation. I thought that i had to delete both bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg files and replace them with the new bootanimation.zip

You should have done a nandroid backup before flashing this. You can't go back to stock if you don't have the backup. Another method is to download the ROM you are currently using and extract the bootanimation.zip from the ROM's system/media folder. Then follow the OP instruction to replace the current bootanimation. Hope that helps.
Remember, always nandroid backup when flashing anything.
Well. I was able to make the shut down animation work.
but the boot/start one does not work. I made everything like the tutorial.

[List][bootanimation] Custom Bootanimations

1st let me tell you what and all required for a custom bootanimation.
You must have a ROOTED device.
A root file manager such as ROOT EXPLORER
Custom bootanimation of your choice
15-20 minutes of time
and importantly PATIENCE
if you have all these then proceed to the next step
Download any of you favorite Bootanimation from here or from any other thread/site
How to add:
You need root and CWM Recovery.
If you need the stock bootanimation then make a back up of that using RootExplorer
Copy the bootanimation to your SD Card.
Rename to bootanimation.zip -If the zipfile has any other name plz rename it to "bootanimation.zip" , without quotes
With root explorer or any other app that allows you to get to /system/media
Copy the bootanimation .zip into /system/media and replace it with the stock one (remember to mount R/W)
And Finally set permissions to rw--r--r--
Should Look something like this
x x -
x - -
x - -
All Bootanimations are of 320x480 size , so will support GIO

If working on gio, it will on ace too.
Just make sure the requirements are met.(root acces, kernel supporting it)

Not working for me. The stock bootanimation still runs (the Samsung logo + that annoying sound...). What I'm doing wrong?

Did you change the permissions?

Maybe a real stupid question, but hey, I'm a noob.
To change the bootanimation, you have to change it in the zip file of your rom. Or am I wrong?
But is it possible to change it, without re-installing the rom?

It is placed at system/media and called bootanimation.zip.
Use a file browser with root acces on your phone to move the bootanim you want(from SD) to /system/media and replace it. Dont forget to set permissions or you wont see it

Yes I've changed them. There is one thing. When I go to system/media there was no bootanimation.zip
I have this files in my system/media folder:
-bootsamsung.qmg
-bootsamsungloop.qmg

You're using samsung stock rom with root acces, no custom kernel?
