The zip doesnt flash using CWM.
Extract the boot animation from in side the ZIP and move to system/media
I am with talon kernel and the file needs renaming to SANIM.ZIP before being placed in system/media

Boot animation now attached you will need to extract the boot animation from the zip
Very good thank you!
Has been secured for my mobile
Ok I just made a CWM zip file, should work, haven't test it just yet though. (Will not work with Talon based kernels because it needs to be renamed to sanim.zip) (Lol I just tried it, yucky ... really blurry)
Update: correct one now LOL
FYI, I downloaded this from the link provided at ausdroid dot net and flashed through CWM and it works great (which linked to a filesonic d/load)

the kernel has to support boot animations, check with the kernel dev
with talon you have to change the name of the zip
yup not working on jvt
there is an android logo and it is stuck on it
any workaround

I am using Talon Kernel, after installing the kernel:
download and extract all files
go to where they have been extracted and copy the bootanimation.zip out of the data folder
copy that to system/media
rename the file sanim.zip
reboot an enjoy

Custom boot animations and binaries on GINGERBREAD ( CF-Root versions >= 2.9, broken in 2.8 ! )
CF-Root also supports custom boot animations:
- /system/media/bootanimation.zip
- /data/local/bootanimation.zip
CF-Root v3.0 and up also support:
- /data/local/bootanimation.bin
according to the dev's page it does follow the instructions above
download the bootanimation.zip direct from the media fire link on first page and then move using root explorer

UPDATE - More Ripped Bootanimation optimized for MDPI (320 * 480) CWM FLASHABLE
well, hello guys, this is my first thread and my first try
what i do here is making a simple flashable bootanimation .zip files, optimized for MDPI devices.
> no need for copy in /system/media and altering permissions :good: because i've found a lot of bootanim that you have to put it manually.
> optimized for MDPI screen :good:
> separated small file and flexible, you don't have to install a new rom and you can install it whether in stock rom, cm7, or cm9. :good:
> bored? just switch to another boot animation, simply via cwm or px recovery :good:

INSTALLATION
1. Download the attached ZIP and copy to the root of your SD card.
2. Reboot into Recovery (CWM or PX tested).
3. Choose "Flash zip from sdcard."
4. Choose the "pawnboy_ICSBOOT.zip" and let it do its thing.
5. Once it's complete, reboot your phone and you're done.
For more detailed view you can use themechooser (i.e. AChep's ICS theme combined with nexus bootanimation and nexus boot sound (which i have one)
and edit your build.prop (phone model, android version, build display etc.)

Thanks Anyway
you can note that mine's cwm flashable. i found a lot ics nexus boot but not flashable, you have to put it manually :cyclops:
I made this animation today, and I'm posting it here now.
It's at 80 fps and a total of 240 frames, and it should work on any device whith resolution of 1280x720.
It's only tested on our loved Galaxy S3.
Sorry, I forget to say that this boot animation isn't made for Sammy based roms. It should work on CM9, CM10, AOKP, and others.

I must be missing something, doesn't the s3 use a qmg file as a boot animation? Putting bootanimation.zip in system/media isn't going to do anything unless the system is actually looking for that particular file.

Make sure the permissions are rw-r--r-- or 644. The owner should have read/write and group and others should only have read.
Code:
chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Also, there is no need to replace the stock bootanimation. You can add your own without modifying the original (and this will also carry through ROM updates). Just place it in /data/local/
At OP, would there be a chance to get a youtube video? I know a lot of people would appreciate it.

because the kernel that you're using doesnt support .zip boot animations
just official kernels use .qmg
so you have to change the kernel in order to use this bootanim.

The topmost row of pixels is pink and the leftmost column of pixels is dark green. Using CM10 Preview 9.
Other than that it looks great.
I also like it and yeah I can confirm the colored pixels and Imo that loading ring around Cid is an bit too slow and a bit too unclear.

They can but you have to change a few files to make it work. A custom kernel that supports it is recommended. However if ur on a stock kernel,
Go to /system/bin/ and find the file called "samsungani" and delete it. Then find the file called "bootanimation", and rename it to samsungani. Place the downloaded bootanimation.zip in /system/media/

ok folks, the op has been updated! the flash zip file works!
for some reason it was not flashing the actual animation file, only the sound was flashing! also found that this device has a different location for the animation file. "/system/media" the funny thing is when I checked my device it has always worked from "/data/local" after digging deeper into my file system, i found a "bootanimation.zip" located in "/system/media" that read "0kb" in size, it was some how redirecting it to pickup the file from the other location! after removing both files and placing in /system/media it worked! :scratchhead
try flashing with the new link in the 1st post! tested working on my glide!!

Certainly the most original boot anim I've ever seen, that is awesome dude, nice.
1st let me tell you what and all required for a custom bootanimation.
You must have a ROOTED device.
A root file manager such as ROOT EXPLORER
Custom bootanimation of your choice
15-20 minutes of time
and importantly PATIENCE
if you have all these then proceed to the next step
Download any of you favorite Bootanimation from here or from any other thread/site
How to add:
You need root and CWM Recovery.
If you need the stock bootanimation then make a back up of that using RootExplorer
Copy the bootanimation to your SD Card.
Rename to bootanimation.zip -If the zipfile has any other name plz rename it to "bootanimation.zip" , without quotes
With root explorer or any other app that allows you to get to /system/media
Copy the bootanimation .zip into /system/media and replace it with the stock one (remember to mount R/W)
And Finally set permissions to rw--r--r--
Should Look something like this
x x -
x - -
x - -
All Bootanimations are of 320x480 size , so will support GIO

If working on gio, it will on ace too.
Just make sure the requirements are met.(root acces, kernel supporting it)

Not working for me. The stock bootanimation still runs (the Samsung logo + that annoying sound...). What I'm doing wrong?

Did you change the permissions?

Maybe a real stupid question, but hey, I'm a noob.
To change the bootanimation, you have to change it in the zip file of your rom. Or am I wrong?
But is it possible to change it, without re-installing the rom?

It is placed at system/media and called bootanimation.zip.
Use a file browser with root acces on your phone to move the bootanim you want(from SD) to /system/media and replace it. Dont forget to set permissions or you wont see it

Yes I've changed them. There is one thing. When I go to system/media there was no bootanimation.zip
I have this files in my system/media folder:
-bootsamsung.qmg
-bootsamsungloop.qmg

You're using samsung stock rom with root acces, no custom kernel?

Yes. Never changed the ROM on this device just some updates on the Firmware.
